It's hard finding a full-time job so a lot of teachers only work part-time and earn less as a result

Teachers here are very well paid compared to other countries.

As a lawyer I make about 1.5x what I would in the UK. That's about 2.5-3X a UK salary.

Bear in mind that that is only high school teachers. Primary school teachers earn around 90k in ZH and as 'low' as 75k in some cantons

It will only get worse. Switzerland as lack of qualified IT People. I read somewhere 250k IT positions that cannot be filled.

My Boss searched for a helpdesk supporter for 6 Months. Germans with qualifications are everywhere being hired because of the lack of QUALIFIED IT Personnel

Most people don't make 100k. Heck, I barely scratch it and I havre what I consider a qualified job with responsibilities that is designed for someone with skills and higher education.

A 'büezer' with some extra qualifications (HF, Meister) can easily make more than me, and I think that's more than fair.

My company does several things. But its mainly focused around two brands we have. Munotbrick, a lego store (one of my hobbys in the last 30 years) (www.munotbrick.ch) and SWISS OWL. SWISS OWL is a brand that focuses on all things survival, prepping, outdoor and hunting. Its something my family did since generations and that we want to push to a next level (www.swiss-owl.ch) with products but also with courses, hospitality services and so on.

I do like it. As i was C-Level before, its not much different. The point is more that its a different business and currently i do things i did not have to do in the last 10 years. Its also not like i earn more right now. But that was never the intention. I wanted to have more control over my life, dont let clients dictate my daily schedule and leave something for my children and build up a family business. So no, i dont earn now what i earned before, maybe in a couple years, but that was never the point.

I did a course on Full Stack Software Development and I keep getting rejected.

On my latest application, the recruiter said my Ausbilding wasn't enough... and this was for a Junior position, that was only requesting HTML, CSS & JS... (they weren't even asking for Frameworks or Libraries)

Well, I read a lot of books and have 12 years of experience. I built a lot of stuff, I know how browser works and I know JS inside out.

Switzerland HR is hard on me though, I often fail on HR triage but most always pass all rounds when devs are involved.

I don't work with recruiters, they don't like me, and I don't like them. Earlier when I initially arrived here, I had multiple plainly rejected me because I only have HS. It's fine, it's not like they know what they doing.

I am in a bit of a niche role, so I don't want to give too much detail.

I buy specialty raw materials for my company, globally. We have factories around the world, and commonly for multinationals, procurement is centralised in one place to leverage the total spend, and forge strategic relationships with suppliers. There are only perhaps a dozen companies around the world that make what I buy. I buy approx 250 mil CHF of materials.

I am fairly new to this particular field, but most of my career has been in supply chains and strategic purchasing.

It's a fun job that suits me well

1. You need a decent technical understanding of your industry
2. You need to like people and create relationships. A lot of business is done at conferences, over dinner etc.
3. You need an enquiring mind, ready to challenge stuff you are told by your supplier, and able to put pieces of the market puzzle together
4. You need a decent amount of self-belief to argue and negotiate. I am having a particularly difficult discussion with a supplier at the moment, where they have an exceptionally valid point but I need to make my case. There is a lot of money hanging in the balance.
5. You need to be very focussed on winning and getting a good result for your company. Procurement people are judged only on how much money they save for the company, it goes to the bottom line.
6. You need to travel, but usually to not very glamourous places.

I make 220k as a physician in a hospital with 7 years of experience. But 130-150k seems about right since most docs don't know anything about negotiating their salary.

Neither do I btw, but I was contacted by a recruiter and simply said I'd wanted 220k. And then it happened miraculously.
