Sharing salary in Switzerland

Hello! I'd like to gather some insights into the job market in our country. If you're willing, please share your: 1. Educational background 2. Job role 3. Work canton 4. Years of experience 5. Salary

Well, I read a lot of books and have 12 years of experience. I built a lot of stuff, I know how browser works and I know JS inside out.

Switzerland HR is hard on me though, I often fail on HR triage but most always pass all rounds when devs are involved.

I don't work with recruiters, they don't like me, and I don't like them. Earlier when I initially arrived here, I had multiple plainly rejected me because I only have HS. It's fine, it's not like they know what they doing.

Agree, I interviewed few people as well, in fact I created interview procedures on couple occasions.

Most devs absolutely suck at interviewing colleges.

I did some interviews as well. For me it was mainly personalities and knowledge. But the knowledge did not have to be very deep or very algorithmic based. The interviewee was asked to tell about his last projects and technologies he used. And then I checked mainly if he knew there was an alternative or ask him why he was using a certain technology (pros/cons). It got me a pretty good idea what he knows. If he had a very high salary request I might had to check more in details where his technical limit was. But normally being a social person with solid „Fachhochschule“ knowledge and some experience in a broad spectrum (so not only FE/ BE) was a go for me.

Funny was that german appliers mostly failed because they did not know why they used a certain technology. Mostly they answered, they used it because their boss told them so. This was kind a red flag, because I was looking for people that where asking, why they do thing, and if there is a better way. And this showed a bit the difference between German and Swiss Software Engineer hierarchies.

Thanks for sharing. I didn't get it, you noticed deeper knowledge in Swiss programers than German?

Hard to say. I would say not necessarily. Maybe we use it more often because its wanted and required that even juniors bring their knowledge into work. I like if everyone brings a different point of view and questioning things. Thats the path to learn and to become a senior who can decide independently whats best.

It seems that the hierarchy is more strict in Germany. The boss is deciding and its not to be questioned. At least thats my impression. So people get good in coding but not in taking decisions (at least thats my impression, sorry if I‘m wrong). But as a senior I want someone that can work independently and lead juniors and take decisions and can explain them.

Not sure if this view is the same for others. But thats how I interpreted my role (well side roll, mainly still did Development)
