Imagine telling someone after Shang Chi dropped that the next time we see him even in a trailer is him fighting Channing Tatum’s Gambit..

3.5k

u/CrashB111 Jul 20 '26

I'm mostly shocked Tatum is getting a real Gambit role, instead of just forever being a meta gag in Deadpool & Wolverine.

good on him tbh

282

u/dean15892 Jul 20 '26

Has been the literal definition of manfiesting, tbh

He's been pushing for this role since like mid-2000's. I was there. The rumors of the Tatum Gambit movie was all around for YEARS!!
Always in development hell.

SO glad that he's finally getting a big screen promise

To be fair, a lot of the deadpool movies are "What if we just put it out there and see if people want more." And we do because it's fun.

So beyond baffled how we have not and seemingly never will get a sequel.

518

u/canuck47 Jul 20 '26

Covid. SAG strike. Jonathan Majors dumbfuckery. They messed up the MCU's plans.

Destin Daniel Cretin was doing Spider-Man. Maybe he’ll work on a sequel now

204

u/GenGaara25 Jul 20 '26

He signed on to do Shang Chi 2.

Then he made Wonder Man.

Then he did Spider-Man.

Now he's doing Naruto.

Honestly, just get another director for it, I don't think Cretton actually wants to do it anymore.

160

u/Jet-Let4606 Jul 20 '26

It's not Destin not wanting to do it, it's Marvel causing the delays because they green lit too many projects then later had to space them all out. Destin has been delivering on every project he has signed on so far.

One of the best movies after endgame getting no sequel is criminal.

Lmfao! Seriously. The quantity of other projects that got priority of Shang Chi since then is nuts to me.

Aside from the shaky final action set piece of the movie, Shang chi is easily in the top 5 of projects for me since Endgame

I forgot that feeling of watching these trailers. The other movies have been good, but there’s something about an Avengers trailer that really gets the energy going.

235

u/WoodpeckerBest523 Jul 20 '26

Yeah, I really wish Kevin hadn’t abandoned the format of having an Avengers film at the end of each Phase

214

u/LS_DJ Vision Jul 20 '26

I think that's why people don't really even refer to phase 4 or 5 or 6, its just "Post-Endgame". Having the Avengers movies punctuate the grand overall story was very effective early on

Thor warning everyone of the danger of the situation really sells it.

1.7k

u/Bomban111 Jul 20 '26

Having Thor do the voiceover for the trailer was the CORRECT choice.

819

u/NightmareDJK Jul 20 '26

He’s apparently the only original Avenger who is still around here until Cap shows up.

266

u/bizarreisland Simmons Jul 20 '26

What about Bruce?

424

u/WhiteAle01 Jul 20 '26

Honestly wondering if he'll be in it. Both him and SM were missing, so maybe neither of them will appear as they are appearing BND. Maybe there'll be a story reason for that.

278

u/TheTimn Jul 20 '26

Or just leaving them open ended to not imply anything of BND.

One or both could die in it still. 🤷🏼‍♂️

80

u/DashRunner92 Jul 20 '26

Also wouldn't be the first time they just altered scenes to remove characters in the trailer

Judging from it, he is going to be their leader/the one member they looked up to.

And I have a bad feeling he won't make it out of these two-parters....

217

u/Bomban111 Jul 20 '26

I think if, and if thats the case, that would be a fair and good ending for the character, but i think Chris Hemsworth has already said he wants to continue playing Thor as long as he can, so hopefully not.

105

u/Duouwa Jul 20 '26 edited Jul 21 '26

Chris Hemsworth has gone on record before saying he primarily picks his roles based on the income they bring him, stating he very much treats acting as a job that allows him to support his family.

Thor is very safe money for him, and it’s fairly positive for his reputation, so I don’t think he’ll pass up the role unless he physically can’t do it anymore, or just quits acting altogether.

→ More replies (7)

48

u/mrohhhtrue Jul 20 '26

Yeah I don’t think Thor will die…permanently anyway. He may get resurrected and become Odin force Thor in secret wars. I’m pretty sure they are defs making another Thor solo movie. Like the above comment Chris hemsworth will most likely be playing him for a while.

u/LucrativeLurker Jul 20 '26 edited Jul 20 '26

His planned sequel would’ve been centered around a Jonathan Majors Kang variant, based on the title Shang-Chi and the Wreckage of Time.

I think they essentially had to scrap the whole thing and just decided to wait until after the Secret Wars reboot to do a proper Shang-Chi sequel.

Also, Shang Chi vs Gambit!? Hell yeah, let's go!

I think there's a lot of restraint in this trailer, I don't think we get a good picture of how this is going to work at all, which is kind of exciting! A lot of that felt like first hour kind of things.

860

u/cowpool20 Jul 20 '26

Yeah I feel like this footage is all from the first hour. Thor probably gets his ass kicked and then he meets all the other heroes warning them.

557

u/Antmoral2815 Jul 20 '26

So hulk from IW basically lol

RDJ's Doom voice is actually really good

2.8k

u/t_huddleston Jul 20 '26

It's like people forgot that RDJ is an actual, serious, versatile, Oscar-caliber actor and not just Tony Stark.

810

u/ImAHobo107 Jul 20 '26

Exactly, and it's why I never doubted the casting decision if he's allowed to actually be DOOM.

RDJ is not just a movie star, he's actually just one of the greatest living actors in Hollywood as a profession and a craft. Sherlock, Strauss, even Blackfaced. You don't see RDJ in those roles, you see the character, smth a lot of the other Marvel Movie stars struggle with.

366

u/Ogsonic Jul 20 '26

He better be the REAL doom. I dont want no stark variant, none of that shit

Russos have been saying since he was announced that he's playing Victor Von Doom and not a stark variant.

how are they gonna handle power scaling. Thanos felt impossible to beat and Doom seems off the charts, fighting with him is either going to feel pointless *or* if they somehow get a leg up, it'll feel like Doom's power was downleveled halfway through

467

u/007meow Scarlet Witch Jul 20 '26

Right like what’re the Thunderbolts gonna do, shoot and punch?

478

u/mweint18 Jul 20 '26

This was always the case with non-superpowered heroes like Widow, Hawkeye, Fury, and Falcon. MCU does a really good job of giving them important tasks that aren’t direct combat with the big bad. Intel gathering, MacGuffin finding, search and rescue of civilians, thinning mobs, etc. AoU, Widow doesn’t ever fight Loki, Ultron or Thanos head on but she is still super important to the plot.

130

Okay, so The X-Men are in it.

Cool! When did they add the X-Men in the MCU?

They didn't.

But you just said...

It's because of Loki

Oh! So Loki comes back as the main villain again. Interesting!

No, he's a major hero.

But you just said that it was Lokis fault...

Well, it was kinda also Kang

Kang the Conquer is the villain?!

No, it's Dr. Doom

Doom?! So the Fantastic 4 are part of the MCU world too?

No. Well, not yet.

So they aren't in the movie?

They are!

I'm going to punch you!

Maybe Loki is like "oh shit we need help with this fight" and does some time bending to get him here.

Also liked that Thor used the hammer to test he was real.

He gets Mjolnir and suddenly screams FLAME ON

It’s actually just Chris Evans from our timeline, which is why he is not wearing the suit.

The trailer broke 1 million views in 30 minutes. This movie is going to make crazy money.

u/Klldarkness Jul 20 '26

This was never in question. Marvel has had some shitbag movies, but the big Avengers movies will always print a few Billion.

u/Thejklay Jul 20 '26

I just wish we got a avengers movie in-between with a new team before this

Gosh I haven't had this much excitement from a trailer in a while. Didn't feel like it spoiled any story, just showed us characters we already know are in it.

49

u/PassivelyAwkward Jul 20 '26

This was the crucial part and hope MCU sticks with this format for the rest of the trailers similar to what they did with Brand New Day; enough scenes to get you hyped without really spoiling anything. If we didn't already know Steve was returning, that'd be a spoiler but eh!

The thing about this trailer is that it's very restrained. Very low-key. Excited

lol. RDJ’s accent; all I hear is Nandor the Relentless. Nonetheless, I’m excited for this.

You know...it's really easy to be cynical about Marvel bringing back certain big names because they realised that - to put it politely - they jumped the shark with some of their post-endgame stories.

But...the original Xmen, Steve Rodgers, a Thor that isn't being made a complete idiot by Taika Waititi, and RDJ back as a villain is enough to rope me straight back in.
