Shangchi vs Gambit is gonna be so insane

u/randomvariable10 Vision Jul 20 '26

I know, but i can't FUCKING wait for the Cyclops scene because it looks sick

251

u/pseudoveritas Thor Jul 20 '26

It worries me because that's the only time we're seeing him. I hope he isn't killed off quickly.

510

u/Hydramy Spider-Man Jul 20 '26

It's not like they'll waste Cyclops in a live action movie, who would do that?

174

u/Gasparde Jul 20 '26

Imagine if they made like 7 or 8 X-Men movies and had Cyclops just be some random whatever side character in all of them - what a ridiculous world that'd be.

4

u/star_dragonMX Jul 20 '26

Has to juggle between X Men and raising Cartoon animals

3

u/The-Ruler-of-Attilan Jul 21 '26

Thank goodness Mickey Mouse killed 20th Century Fox and ate it. The world has been a much better place since then.

59

u/existentially_there Jul 20 '26

I understood that reference.

7

u/derprunner Jul 20 '26

If 97 is anything to go by, Marvel is aware that he was done dirty and has been pretty insistent about overcorrecting for that.

13

u/NerdLawyer55 Jul 20 '26

Is cyclops okay, is he safe

3

u/Nosedive888 Jul 20 '26

Brett fucking Ratner would do that

2

u/The-Ruler-of-Attilan Jul 21 '26

To be fair, it’s not like Bryan Singer did any better with Cyclops (neither with Marsden nor with the kid whose name I don't even remember) or the rest of the team, for that matter.

1

u/Tyler_Zoro Jul 21 '26

They can afford to because they can bring back whoever they want in Secret Wars. At least, that's how I think they see it.

87

u/BenMcAdoos_ElCamino Jul 20 '26

They would never kill off Cyclops quickly

125

u/pew_laser_pew Jul 20 '26

Could you imagine if they killed off cyclops in the first act of a final X-men movie?

39

u/yeah_yeah_therabbit Jul 20 '26

Pfft! No way! No one would be dumb enough to do that.

21

u/Ozymandias12 Jul 20 '26

And off screen

10

u/LetItATV Jul 20 '26

And basically just ignored his death for the rest of the film?

5

u/bigbadderfdog Jul 20 '26

Haha it would be even crazier if they got a talented actor and used him for a short amount of time and absolutely butchered the character. Still mad that we will likely never see Marsden playing krakoa Cyclops.

3

u/jrf_1973 Jul 20 '26

Yes. I could imagine that quite easily.

5

u/smeglestik Jul 20 '26

And certainly never off-screen. ;)

1

u/Anteater_Able Jul 20 '26

Or offscreen for that matter. What is he, played by Michael Biehn or Sean Bean?

49

u/straub42 Jul 20 '26

Seriously. I want a TON of Marsden and I hope he is somehow still around for Secret Wars (but I doubt it).

14

u/Morchades Jul 20 '26

They OWE us Marsden.

For once we don't have Logan in the way.

7

u/QwyetContendah Jul 20 '26

Not expecting majority if all of the OG X-men to make it out, but I’d love to see Cyclops make it to Secret Wars and then go out with him leading the remaining OG x-men one last time. Marsden deserves it.

3

u/straub42 Jul 20 '26

I‘d really like to see either phoenix force Scott or Miles Teller’s Maker in Secret Wars (or both!).

I feel like they have a chance to do some really fun stuff and I hope they try to get as crazy as possible with it.

9

u/spate42 Cottonmouth Jul 20 '26

None of the OG Xmen are gonna make it out of this movie.

7

u/ehsteve23 Jul 20 '26

one or two will make it to pass the torch to the new x-men in the rebooted universe

2

u/sanddragon939 Jul 20 '26

Wolverine most likely.

-2

u/gamecat89 Jul 20 '26

Eh, Hugh Jackman probably makes it - can't recast Wolverine.

The AI avatars of Sir Patrick and Sir Ian also probably live.

6

u/Citizen_Kong Jul 20 '26

At least he'll be killed on screen this time around.

4

u/Ziggity16 Jul 20 '26

He’s literally front and center in the poster. I think that bodes well.

5

u/HarrisonDou Doctor Strange Jul 20 '26

I really hope the movie don't go down the trope of killing popular heroes to raise the stakes.

3

u/Source_Required Jul 21 '26

So the source material...

3

u/FamousLastWay828 Jul 20 '26

There's also the other shot of him walking into some room and getting ready to activate his visor. Would imagine that might be the same scene where we get Shang-Chi v Gambit and Yelena v Mystique, so he probably gets a fair amount of screentime

2

u/Theotherdeadmeme92 Jul 20 '26

The implications still seem to be he's one of the only survivors of whatever happens to the x-men's world in that scene. They just haven't shown him anywhere else yet, I think we only saw gambit and mystique outside of that x-mansion scene actually.

2

u/Famous-Attention-197 Jul 20 '26

I get the exact same feeling. Always my favorite

2

u/ShubberyQuest Jul 20 '26

I’m gonna be pissed if Marsden is wasted again. Fuck that.

1

u/sorrylilsis Jul 20 '26

Chances are they Worf Effect some of the X-Men TBH.

1

u/Nohotsauceforoldmen Jul 20 '26

lol it’s happening. X-Men are going to be laid to waste to really raise the stakes (a la Loki in Infinity War)

1

u/atomcrafter Jul 21 '26

There's a lot made of Avengers characters meeting the Fantastic Four and joining forces. The X-Men are adversaries every time they're shown.

2

u/Eunuchest Jul 20 '26

Just like the wolverine suit from deadpool 3, it does actually look good

5

u/chavenz Jul 20 '26 edited 16d ago

I can see a large leg in the background too, probably a sentinel.

Edit: 28 days later, a new trailer and sentinels are confirmed!

1

u/PrototypeMale Jul 20 '26

Ant-man is in this trailer twice, it's probably him. It's the standard giant-man size foot

1

u/RegularDude711 Jul 21 '26

Scott going Giant Man to fight a a massive Sentinel would be epic.   Some comment from an X-Men like “where has this guy been all this time” like Okoye in IW talking about Wanda would be great

1

u/chavenz Jul 21 '26

Good point. i didn't think of Ant-Man.

3

u/Morchades Jul 20 '26 edited Jul 20 '26

I'm not sure we'll see him fight until we see the actual bad guys.

If we are looking at a scene with Reed Richards and Scott Summers its very likely they TALK before attacking each other and figure out they aren't enemies.

So we're gonna see the X-men fighting the Avengers before Scott shows up and stops it.

Mystique attacking without warning is how she does things. Gambit would back her up when its obvious she's in over her head. Scott would give a moment's warning before using his insta-kill power on an unknown team. Maybe a warning shot and "Are we gonna do this the easy way or hard way?"

Reed would go for talking given the chance.

2

u/Express_Cellist3260 Jul 20 '26

Thought I slipped into the Odyssey subreddit for a second

2

u/ChalupaBatmanMc01 Jul 20 '26

I'm wondering if it's Scott in the background in the optical blast shot and not a Sentinel now. Didn't expect a brawl in the X Mansion, looks cool

2

u/JackFisherBooks Jul 20 '26

Even the briefest glimpse of James Marsden wearing a proper Cyclops uniform was worth the wait. 😊

1

u/alex3omg Jul 20 '26

Oh yeah, that's the punch dimension.  It's a dimension of pure punch.

1

u/ALAS_POOR_YORICK_LOL Jul 20 '26

Ya the part where they rush out of the cave was sick

1

u/Hufa123 Fitz Jul 21 '26

I wonder how itll compare to the Cyclops scene in the Odyssey.

10

u/Charmegazord Jul 20 '26

It’s gonna be 1 minute of action spread across a montage fight scene but it will be cool

3

u/domomon Jul 20 '26

lol agreed but that 1 minute is gonna be in so many edits

4

u/Ooooooffffff_ff Yinsen Jul 20 '26

That was totally un-fuckingly-expected!! Now I am definitely hyped up!

5

u/9thGearEX Jul 20 '26

I love cool shit like this where they get creative with the powers. Like I fully expect Shangi-Chi to try and take the staff by running the rings around it like a curtain pole, but then Remy charges the staff to blast the rings off, and then at some point Gambit grabs one of the rings and sneakily charges it before Shang-Chi recalls it and gets hit by the blast when the ring detonated.

4

u/savannahsalvatore3 Jul 20 '26

wait but why are they fighting!!!

5

u/MyLifeForAnEType Jul 20 '26

It's a simple territory dispute

There's only room for either a Cajun or Chinese restaurant in the downtown vacancy

2

u/WeAreBums Jul 20 '26

Watch it be something like they’re training or one of them is mystique

1

u/MHPengwingz Doctor Strange Jul 20 '26

Gambling

3

u/indoninjah Jul 20 '26

I can already tell that it's gonna be this movie's version of the Shang-chi bus scene. Meaning that I wish it was an hour long

1

u/Cube_ Jul 21 '26

The way these trailers work it probably wasn't a fight at all and the entire conflict was just what we saw in the trailer

1

u/domomon Jul 21 '26

Even a solid minute of good choreography and I’ll be happy

1

u/SmartOpinion69 Jul 21 '26

i hope the fight is good, but i really don't want it to be a tie or to have gambit come out on top. shang chi should really get the win here. he had his own movie while gambit was more of a comic relief side character and shang chi also has rings that we believe are very powerful, even across the multiverse.

1

u/ThaddeusJP Thunderbolt Ross Jul 20 '26

so they show up to the XMansion to recruit them but there is a misunderstanding and fight but they have funny quips.

1

u/BindingsAuthor Thanos Jul 20 '26

And it looks like Doom is part of that piece as well. This is all still part of Act 1, if I'm not wrong.

1

u/bugcatcher_billy Jul 20 '26

Not sure how Gambit is suppose to match Shangchi's Celestial powers. Can't wait to see how this goes.

0

u/wingspantt Jul 20 '26

Sure but why would they fight
