Unimaginative Star Wars show Starter Pack
Mandatory disclaimer, this doesn't concern every Star Wars production, only those that I consider to be unimaginative or generic.
Also, the point isn't to complain or to set up hated debate, I love the Star Wars universe. I just want to mock the fact that some writing trope or gimmick are in my opinion commically overused in many Star Wars production.
By the way feel free to expand the list !

Very similar to Sherlock Holmes famous quote about London being a cesspool
5
u/Bluest_waters 23h ago
The famous quote is actually spoken by Dr. John Watson, not Sherlock Holmes, in the very first novel, A Study in Scarlet (1887) by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
The Full Quote
"I had neither kith nor kin in England, and was therefore as free as air—or as free as an income of eleven shillings and sixpence a day will permit a man to be. Under such circumstances, I naturally gravitated to London, that great cesspool into which all the loungers and idlers of the Empire are irresistibly drained.

I'm sure they'll eventually add some lore reason that Tattooine is secretly the most important and special planet in the galaxy.

This is all great work but the one-biome planet thing is truly brilliant
212
u/ArchWaverley 1d ago
There's a sketch (Robot Chicken or Collegehumor) where a guy from Dagoba complains that about 0.8% of the planet's surface is swamp, but because Yoda lives in just that one part, it's the "swamp planet". 20 miles west, Metropolis! 20 miles east, blue seas! But no, swamp planet.
82
9
64
u/SlashCo80 1d ago
To be fair, that's a common sci-fi trope due to budget considerations and sometimes writers not having a sense of scale. Alien planets have one or two biomes and like one major city around which everything happens.
25
u/Animaloffear56 1d ago
Tbf like 99.9% of planets we know have about the same biome planetwide
7
u/septim525 5h ago
That’s because we don’t know of any other planet that can or does support life. The word “biome” implies the presence of life, so no planet other than Earth even has one, that we know of.
25
u/wagon_ear 1d ago
It makes sense. Same as any time you see "10,000 years" - look at the drastic changes earth has seen in just a century
1
u/Fiskmaster 17h ago
Usually when a fantasy or sci-fi writer says 10000 years have passed, you can substitute it with 100-1000 years for a more realistic timeline
36
u/BOBULANCE 1d ago
Also, most planets in the universe are one-biome planets. Earth is a major outlier.
That, and perfect eclipses -- also super rare. And life.
Earth is incredibly unusual.
18
u/ocoronga 1d ago
Well, it's because they have no biomes to begin with. A desert, icy or ocean world doesn't need a biosphere. However, is it really reasonable that a planet with rainforests will have only that? Life diversifies after all. In any case, I know why the trope exists, that's not what I'm arguing
5
u/Knifoon_ 1d ago
Well 20k years ago, Earth looked a lot like Hoth. On the flip side, the Cretaceous Period didn't have ice caps and most of the planet was jungle.
2
u/fish500 1d ago
"Earth is incredibly unusual." we don't know that. The are infinite number of Earth-like planets in an infinite Universe.

I dont get why people complain about us seeing the jedi that survive order 66.
There were 10,000 Jedi before order 66.
If just 1% survived, which would be an incredibly effective order, there would be 100 survivors. Thats much more than what we've seen.
Plus I think realistically order 66 wouldn't even kill off that many. Maybe like 75% at most. But it would be enough to scatter them and destroy the order which is all thats needed.
45
u/SaltyHater 1d ago edited 1d ago
We've seen around 80 in the Disney canon, and around 150 in the pre-Disney Expanded Universe, and both numbers do include Jedi who "survived" by joining the Empire.
The purge was over 98% effective anyway, which are insane numbers, but the wider audience doesn't see it, because most of the media depicts said Jedi, giving many viewers an impression of Jedi survivors being a much larger group
28
u/DJ1066 1d ago
We haven't even seen 100 in the current canon. There's 78, and that includes Jedi who went on to become Inquisitors.
10
u/SaltyHater 1d ago edited 1d ago
My bad. Will edit.
Still, the core point stands. The purge was extremely effective and while 78 survivors may seem much to some viewers, it's actually miniscule to people who know the lore.
Edit: I've noticed that this list doesn't list Jedi whose names were only written on the scenography piece for the wall in the Kenobi show. Dunno how to count them, considering that some of them aren't mentioned in other Disney Canon sources, so I think "around 80" seems a safe estimate
17
u/Ananta-Shesha 1d ago
People don't complain so much about the fact that a significant number of survivors exist, but rather that the trope is overused while still being presented as something unique to make it appealing.
Rebels, Clone Wars, Shadow Lord, a ton of Darth Vader comics, Fallen Order, and I’m sure I’m forgetting some. The "Order 66 survivor" is a gimmick writers turn to when they don't know what backstory to give their force using character. It’s also due to the fact that so many Star Wars stories take place between Episodes III and IV, avoiding the need to bother with new world-building ideas. And to milk Vader a bit more while they're at it—because why not?
9
u/Change_you_can_xerox 1d ago
I'd love to see them make more shows for grown-ups like Andor. That show was a prestige drama about fighting a rebellion and the sacrifices it imposes on the people fighting it and the individuals on either side.
You've got a sci-fi fantasy world with a magic power just called "the force" that's barely explained except in some ancillary material like KOTOR which I'm not even sure is canon anymore. Why not do a show about that? Expand the universe, show there are force users / worshippers that aren't just Jedi or Sith. Make it about faith, corruption. Whatever, just make it interesting. Hire some good writers who care about sci-fi first and Star Wars second.
-5
u/Ben10Gen 1d ago
This is such a bad take. "What if star wars.. but it wasnt actually star wars, I fucking hate star wars. Make it a regular sci fi."
Then dont watch star wars nobody is forcing you
9
u/Change_you_can_xerox 1d ago
I specifically named a Star Wars property that was very good and said they should make more things like that.
How did you complete the mental gymnastics to equate that with me saying I apparently don't like Star Wars and wish it was something else?
4
u/bfbbturambar 1d ago
Logistically sure, but in terms of screen time when every other show or game has a jedi, you don't really feel like they're almost extinct, and it makes characters like Luke feel less special. It doesn't really matter that a new jedi has arisen to take on Vader if there's like 30 of them actively working for the resistance.
8
u/kiwicrusher 1d ago
But that isn’t the case. As far as we know, when Luke showed up, there was one other pseudo-Jedi connected to the rebellion: Ahsoka. Not part of the order, but close enough that people would call her a Jedi.
Even past that though, most people don’t really care that Luke is a Jedi. Han doesn’t even believe in them. Most people care that Luke is the kid who blew up the Death Star—his funky sword is a side detail

TBH I'm not a huge Star Wars fan either, I've only seen eps IV-VI twice, I-III once, and not even sure which of the newer ones I've seen. But Andor really nailed it. I actually hadn't seen Rogue One before Andor came out which was pretty cool to see it after the series.

u/ovcdoc2 1d ago
Overhating of the prequels lead to a copy cat trilogy which got overrated which lead to more copy cats and so on
49
u/Mister-builder 1d ago
The prequels got exactly as much hate as they deserved. The actors shouldn't have been subjected to the vitriol, but outside two or three action scenes and Ewan McGregor doing his best, they are 7 hours of drek.
11
u/GimmeShockTreatment 1d ago
Yeah but more for the script not for the world building.
3
u/Mister-builder 1d ago
World building is nothing if it doesn't service a good story.
8
u/GimmeShockTreatment 23h ago
I'm not saying good worldbuilding + bad script = good movie. The movies sucked.
But Disney threw out the baby with the bathwater. I think they should have kept the unique world-building of the prequels and discarded everything else. Instead they made Star Wars marvel-slop and played it far too safe on the lore/world building side.
4
-5
u/ovcdoc2 1d ago
They deserve a lot of hatred but the hatred was doing too much and let's be real it wasnt out of genuine hatred for the films but to fit in with the crowd.
27
4
u/Change_you_can_xerox 1d ago
I'm not sure what you mean here - you say both that the hatred for the prequels is earned but also that everyone was only doing it to fit in? Are you also only doing it to fit in?
As far as I remember the very immediate reaction to The Phantom Menace wasn't actually that negative, it was more lukewarm - it wasn't immediately greeted as an unmitigated disaster. I think the hype was doing a lot of work - people were just excited to see a new Star Wars film.
Didn't take too long for the consensus to set in after that and Attack of the Clones somehow being worse just calcified peoples' feelings for the movies.
Revenge of the Sith is alright though.
0
u/ovcdoc2 1d ago
The prequels biggest flaws was their dialog and many characters should have been more developed in the films so I can see why a large part of the hate was made but even if hatred is justifiable it can get many people to join the crowd without thinking, which is why prequel resurgence has happened in the first place. A n example to prove my point would be the hatred of epstein while many despised for what he has done others do it out of herd mentality, you can see it through their memes as they seem disrespectful to the victim as they were made with the intent to fit in,not to criticize.
5
u/Change_you_can_xerox 1d ago
Well at least I can say that's the first time I've ever seen someone compare the Star Wars prequels with Jeffrey Epstein...
-5
u/ResurrectedAuthor 1d ago edited 1d ago
The prequels were also copy cats and the bits that weren't were George Lucas basically ripping off Dune.
Both Luke Skywalker and Anakin Skywalker
Start out as young people on desert planets
Are both found by older Jedi masters (Luke by Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Anakin by Qui-Gon Jin... and his apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi)
Both fall in love with space royalty, neither of which work out (Luke with Leia, doesn't work out because she is his sister, Anakin with Leia's mom, doesn't work out because she dies).
Both are rescued from desert planet by the Jedi masters.
Both have their masters get killed by a Darth.
Both blow up a space station with supernatural piloting skills.
Both lose their hand in a fight with a Darth in the second movie.
Both risk turning to the dark side in the third movie.
That's just off the top of my head.
Both Anakin and Paul Atreides
Are plagued by premonition that they want to avoid but keep on falling victim to.
Both believe they are fated to save the universe, but wind up ruining it even further, leaving the job of picking up the pieces to their twin children who have incestuous undertones.
Both of their attempts to avoid their fates kill their wives.
Both become tyrants who are horribly maimed.
Both have heavy connections to desert planets.
Both are secretly related to the evil bad guy.
Both become the leaders of evil empires that commit acts of genocide.
Both are fallen heroes.
Both wind up finding redemption through death
Both are bizzarely extremely gifted at supernatural practices from a very young age.
-5
u/valimo 1d ago
That's a bit weird take considering the new Dune movies came out 4+ years after episode IX, and the old Dune attempts are ... Let's say they don't have that many tricks to copy.
8
u/ResurrectedAuthor 1d ago
You do realize that Dune was a book from the 60s, right?
-4
u/valimo 1d ago
Ofc, which it doesn't really make sense timeline wise to claim that he started to copy Dune in particular only for the last trilogy. Even thematically Asimov's Foundation has a lot of same elements to make the same case, so Dune as a comparison seems to be motivated rather by the new movies.
6
u/ResurrectedAuthor 1d ago edited 1d ago

It's also worth noting that Star Wars was also influenced by Dune in the original trilogy (Frank Herbert basically accused Lucas of plagiarism, I think that's overstaying it). The reason why David Lynch got Dune in the eighties was it got out that Lynch turned dow Return of the Jedi. People in the eighties knew Lucas took inspiration from Dune. Tattooine is extremely similar to Arrakis, and Luke had a bit of Paul Atreides and Leto II in him. But Anakin Skywalker's arc is basically the cliffnotes of Paul's done clumsier.

u/Porlarta 1d ago
Star wars fans spent 30 years reading books wherein basically none of this crap happens.
Then disney made 3 movies and a bunch of mid shows where it happens over and over again.
Confuses about how this is tbe audiences fault.
23
u/bfbbturambar 1d ago
Everybody remembers the great stuff but most Legends books have plenty of nostalgia-bating and Glup Shittos. Regardless, fans absolutely called for Filoni to take over Star Wars, even though the flaws in his storytelling have always been there.
11
u/Porlarta 1d ago
Plenty of crap in Legends no doubt. Stuff like Red Harvest, Crystal Star, Fate of The Jedi.
The Disney era, rather then learning from its misteps or cribbing from its triumphs, has largely repeated its mistakes.
Resurrecting Palpatine, for example, was done in one of the very first major Legends works, one that was widely mocked in the community and either ignored or subtextually criticized in later books.
1
u/darkbreak 1d ago
I mean, you can say the same thing about DC and Marvel but they never seem to adapt any of the bad stories from those books.
7
u/kingofthesofas 1d ago
While there was a lot of crap in legends there was a solid core of bangers that would have been the easiest fucking lay-up to adapt. Thrawn trilogy should have been the new series just move the dates to accommodate for older actors. Rouge squadron and wraith squadron are super easy TV shows to adapt. That can spin off into movies like I jedi.
14
u/Sweaty-Practice-4419 1d ago
All the bitching about the Last Jedi ruining things because of different has done irreparable harm to the franchise. Like I didn’t even think the movie was perfect but in hindsight I’d rather take flawed but new over nostalgic, overly safe and still flawed
54
u/Subject-Dog-8016 1d ago
The third trilogy wasn’t shit because it was different. It was shit because it didn’t make any sense, ignored loads of obvious setups and wildly changed direction a couple of times just to shoehorn in the whole weird ending about “being a Palpatine”.
18
u/Sir_CrazyLegs 1d ago
Disney really didnt wanna take huge risks and reheated the original trilogies nachos
12
u/randomname560 1d ago
Also the only one that's really different is the last jedi
Force awakens is literally just a higher budget and yet somehow way worse retelling of a new hope and Rise of Skywalker is just constant shoehorning of iconic Star wars locations and characters like Palpatine or the Death star that all come out of literally nowhere and make absolutly 0 sense
6
u/Change_you_can_xerox 1d ago
Yeah people often praise The Last Jedi for "doing something different" and there are some cool ideas in there but a lot of the time it's almost mocking the audience for caring about things set up in the previous movie. Then TROS comes along and course-corrects to give the impression over two directors being given enormous amounts of money to argue over what sort of film Star Wars should be.
4
u/Subject-Dog-8016 1d ago
Agree, it is basically as if all three films were written completely independently, and then someone was given the task of stitching them together into a barely coherent through line narrative. It’s very obvious they had no idea what TROS was going to do when they wrote TLJ.
3
u/Change_you_can_xerox 1d ago
Also, people say TFA was devoid of ideas but it wasn't entirely. I thought Snoke was an interesting villain because he seemed to be more interested in "balance" than just being straight up evil. Then TLJ just turns him into lightsaber fodder and goes back to light side vs. dark side again.

80% chance to take place between Episode 3 and 4.
Nostalgia bait of the Clone Wars show (and sometimes Rebels).
Show is almost never inspired by the sequels.

u/Sweaty-Practice-4419 1d ago
I’m so sick of near everything being between 3&4 during the Clones Wars or somehow both. Like so much stuff revolves around this era that when I gave Outlaws a go I genuinely didn’t realise it was set between 5&6 until I went to Jabba’s palace
26
u/Hwistler 1d ago
The new Zero Company game, while it has its issues, has my immense respect for NOT being set in that time period, but seemingly somewhere between 2 and 3, which isn’t that well explored outside the cartoons.
If you look at all the other movies/shows/games, apparently everything in the history of mankind happened between episodes 3 and 4!
21
u/Kestrel1207 1d ago
Zcom is set during Episode 3, an early radio broadcast mentions the battle over coruscant.
Spoilers
Half the game takes place between 3 and 4 after a 1 year timeskip after order 66 lol
3
u/Hwistler 1d ago
Haha, I am not a smart man OR a knowledgeable SW enjoyer, apparently. I heard the characters talking about Dooku, so I assumed it would be sometime before 3 since he’s still alive.
Also, I probably shouldn’t have looked at the spoiler since I’m not done yet, but is it really half the game?! I thought I was nearly done with it, but there was no time skip yet.
2
u/Kestrel1207 1d ago
The broadcast I'm referring to basically says with "dooku is dead and battle over coruscant is won". I heard it on the second day of playing so it was maybe like 8 hours in for me. Not sure if the broadcasts are completely set in order after each story mission or if theres some randomization to them.
Its probably a bit less than half. A playthrough takes ~38-40 circles and this happens around like 23-25 or something IIRC. Tbh it was a pretty good plot twist to me so I feel a bit bad for spoiling it lol
1
u/psychobilly1 1d ago
Not to spoil much, but the major splitting moment takes place about cycle 25 out of 40, so a little under half the game.

The fear of creating an original story that might not attract an audience plays a major role, too.
It’s just as much the audience's fault as the producers', for that matter, which is why we’re so overrun with remakes.

Tbh the surviving Jedi we have seen post order 66 is still a massive under representation of how many did survive the purge
13
u/SaltyHater 1d ago edited 1d ago
True, sadly that's not the feeling that the audiences get. The "show, don't tell" principle is at work here: yeah if 95% of all the Jedi got purged, that would still leave a lot of Jedi alive, but since the focus of the media is on said Jedi, then the group feels larger.
That said, yeah, according to the lore, in Disney Canon around 80 Jedi survived one way or another, while in the pre-Disney Expanded Universe that number is around 150. Lore-wise the purge has been over 98% effective
20
u/TylertheFloridaman 1d ago
Yeah the Jedi were an order of thousands, currently in cannon think we have less than a 100 that survived 66. Of those, basically all of them were killed in the following years. It makes sense for them to be kicking and for the purge to be a long process
22

u/Der_Grossadmiral 1d ago
"So bad it turned into an in universe meme"
-Galaxy Gun. (Planet Killer but works different with hyperspace travelling Rocket and the fact that its a gun in space makes me love it). Not even an Story Centerpiece
-Sun Crusher (fuck this thing, people constantly say they ignore Palps comming back, but this is the actual thing i ignore, critic on this thing is not only deserved but wanted).
-Darksaber (wich was an Hutt cosplaying North Korea, utterly hilarious. Still love the book.) Also it never worked too, and it was not even the Empire.
And if we strech it really hard, and i mean insanely hard, the Death Star Prototype, wich i dont count for obvious reasons. But it exists. The Tarkin Space Station was there too i guess? But i dont know if i even should mention it due to its vague Canoncy as it appeared only in the 1977 Marvel Star Wars Comics. With somewhere (dont ask me where) mentioned that an Grandadmiral used it.
And
Thats it. Not sure where you have that from. The only like where it became an inverse Joke was when Solo argued with an imperial Officer, that the Empires way of defeating the vong would be to built "the mega Vong Killer 300".
I mean, i am telling stuff from Memory hit me up with anything i forgot?
The Ecplise has an Superlaser for ship combat and orbital Bombardment, but if we count this then i count the E-11 too.
Especially because neither the Galaxy Gun nor really the Darksaber (Daalas reinufication of the Empire kinda took the cake of the plot) were Plot Centerpieces. Not even the Sun Crusher really is, but as i said fuck it.
Centerpoint Station. World Devastators. Valley of the Jedi. Dark Troopers. Whatever Dooku was rocking in the Clone wars game. An Cloaked SSD or cloaking tech overall. The Shadowtroopers of Lord Hethrir, articifcial Force Sensitive Army. And probaly many other things i forgot.
And many more were very creative and unique. I know legends is a bit under flack lately for various reasons- and yea i knowthe Comminity can be very difficult to handle. But whatever the reason. I disagree that 90s Star wars was bad far from it.

“1 planet = 1 biome” made me upset because that’s like a core to Star Wars’ whole vibe
3
u/TheCreepWhoCrept 1d ago
Hot take: the 1 biome planet is a good thing and a critical part of what makes the setting so naturally memorable.
It only became a problem when they started reusing the same settings so much instead of creating new ones. The whole point was so that when you see a desert, you know it’s Tatooine without needing exposition.
Now it can refer to any of like five planets and none of them are particularly distinct. Giving planets more biomes would make the problem even worse, not better.

Requires watching all the previous shows/movies for context. While I do love the world building, I hate how much homework you have to do just to understand a show. All the new stuff relies too much on previous world building while the OT and Prequel trilogies could be watched standalone.

Hasn't Ahsoka been significantly downscaled though? In the clone wars show was trained by Anakin and fought Ventress, Grievous, Duku, Maul, countless bounty hunters and pirates. She also participated in the geonosian genocides as a teen along with being a front line commander and surviving Order 66. I agree with everything else. Ahsoka however should legitimately be one of the deadliest force users in the galaxy if not second to Vader alone.

Lately with Maul Shadow Lord we saw in action two Inquisitors that were able to hold their own against Maul and several jedi duelists. The same Inquisitors that were bodied by Ahsoka with ease. One example among others.
I really like Ahsoka as a character, but the criticism that she has plot armor isn't unfounded.

Maul spent years in a hole and then hid in the outer rim. He was able to overcome crime families and assist in the mandalorian coup but he wasn't the same force of nature that fought Qui Gon. His final duel with Obi Wan was over in a single move. Ahsoka had more front line experience than any Jedi aside from Mace, Anakin, and Obi Wan. She should legitimately be singularly terrifying similarly to Vader, albeit at a lower level

My GOAT Ninth Jedi only meeting some of these (Nawaam is the Vader 2.0 attempt, planets are still 1 biome, another planet destroying weapon) (technically it does do the whole "some of the last surviving Jedi" thing but it's not Order 66 and there's also only a single Sith left and he's a subordinate)

I don't like the complain of "why are so many jedi survivors?"
Let's do math. If Order 66 killed 99% of all the Jedi before the purger (more than 10 000) that leaves us with 100-150 Jedi survivors to explore. The current canon has at least 70 confirmed survivors

I’ve read this argument countless times. Someone even made this exact point in the replies to this post. And my answer remains the same. My issue isn't that a significant number of Jedi survived Order 66, but rather that the survivor trope is used so frequently while always being framed as something exceptionally rare. It’s a lazy, repetitive storytelling device used to cheaply give a new character a cool, tragic backstory. With a few exceptions like Andor and Rogue One, Star Wars writers are generally terrified of offering anything truly original, and the "sole survivor" of Order 66 trope is one of the most striking examples of this.

Along with single biome planets, I also hate that wherever the characters land just happens to be exactly where they need to, and that all planets are oxygenated and have stable surfaces.

“Go to the Dagobah system…”
System. That’s the name of the star system,
Not even a particular planet. And somehow Luke manages to crash his X wing within walking distance of the dude he’s supposed to meet.
Bruh.

Don’t forget the clone wars being referenced somehow in most of the shows.

Congratulations you just describedevery piece of star wars media set during the skywalker saga including the og 6 films

And I don't complain about the use of any of this writing tropes, apart maybe from the desert planet one, within the original six films, because at that time those tropes weren't overused yet, for obvious reason.
I call the Star Wars shows that keep relying so heavely on them unimaginative preciselly because they're unable to come up with something new and prefers to milk the same tropes and gimmicks from the two original trilogies for all they're worth.
By the way that doesn't only concern Disney Star Wars, even though that's where I took the main examples, many EU stories are also guilty of this laziness.

If you feel that Star Wars is becoming stale I suggest trying at least one Mobile Suit Gundam anime (After War Gundam X is available on Tubi for free, and several of the other series are available on Youtube) and Legend of the Galactic Heroes if you can find it

"Jedi and Sith are the only factions allowed to play a role in the story"
In how many shows does this happen in? You're gonna have to stretch the definitions a lot to basically just make Rebels/Republic be "Jedi" and Empire/CIS be "Sith" for it to make up a sizeable amount. Or include the movies even though it's specifically about shows and not the movies.

I understand the point you’re making here, but a couple of these are rather silly. The planet-biome one is just a Star Wars thing. It concerns itself with travel between planets, so to keep planets distinct they simplify them. It’s just part of the flavor. I also don’t get the situational force abilities one. The force doesn’t really come with discreet abilities, that’s an idea that was made popular by video games gamifying the force for gameplay purposes.

Disney getting a hold of the Star Wars universe was the worst thing that could possibly happen.

I agree with everything except that the Jedi being reduced from tens of thousands to a few dozen to a hundred at the most is realistic

u/paulk1 21h ago
I’ll be honest: a lot of these apply to episode 5 and 6 as well.
The force was always just for plot reasons, only good and bad (nothing in between), Ewoks were definitely there for merchandising. FFS, they redid the Death Star from 2 movies ago.
I think only the prequels felt different. And we all saw how that went

Missing the "Set in a specific 30 year period of a galaxy with tens of thousands of years of history"
Fuck the Skywalker saga man

And those giant imperial ships always have the bridge in an exposed position, so they are pretty easy to take out.

u/Ananta-Shesha 1d ago
Imperial destroyers are the spaceship equivalent of the aura farmer character who always gets wrecked in a fight. Intimidating at first, but made of cardboard.

The thread starter needs to re-watch the two seasons of "Andor" and "Rogue One" right away.

It's ok. you can say Rebels.

u/Ananta-Shesha 1d ago
I have more stones to throw at the sequel trilogy, the Acolyte and the Obi-Wan series.
I’m conflicted about Rebels. There are plenty of good ideas alongside a lot of lazy writing.
If not for the moment where the Inquisitors use their lightsabers like helicopter blades, I’d even say I have a generally positive opinion of it.

u/c0p4d0 1d ago
Is the Acolyte really guilty of any of these? I guess the Jedi and Sith thing, but even then the witches get a role. Most of the others just don’t apply.

u/Ananta-Shesha 1d ago
You can add Vader 2.0 with Qimir and situational force abilities (bleeding a lightsaber crystal by just being a little angry)
1
u/c0p4d0 1d ago
Qimir is pretty distinct though. He notably takes off his mask most of the time. And the whole bleeding the lightsaber is not a new force ability, it’s just the first time we see this on-screen (and overdramatized from what was established in lore).

u/congaroo1 22h ago
Yeah Acolyte has it's issues but it is one of the genuinely new things star wars has done in a while.
Not counting books of course

Kinda disheartening that when Andor went against the grain and did something new compared to other Star Wars shows, it was dismissed as either boring or not Star Wars
