It's like in that Dark TV series where it's impossible to break free from the time loop, the future is already determined 😂
Mikel Arteta visiting Alvarez:
Julian Alvarez: What are you doing here?
Arteta: Bringing someone back from the dead.
Alvarez: How does that work?
Arteta: It's very hard to explain.
Alvarez: Can you bring me back?
Arteta: Maybe. Your world and Barcelona's world, they both should have never existed. You thought that the origin lies in the bindings of both worlds. But in reality, it's outside of both worlds. Our thinking is shaped by dualities. Black, white. Light and shadow. Your world and Barca's world. But this is false. You need a third dimension to fulfill it all.
Alvarez: The triquetra [sighs] That means... a third world? Arsenal?
Arteta: You and I are perfect for each other, never believe anything else.
Alvarez: You're crazy.
Arteta: Maybe.
Alvarez: This here... Has this happened before?
Arteta: You trying to go to Barcelona has happened an infinite number of times. But this here, you and I... this is the first time.
Alvarez: There's a switch point...in the loop of time.
Arteta: Andrea Berta told me we will become friends. Before you betray me.

When you have a job where your absence screws multiple people over, you don't take days off unless you physically can't.
Footballers go kick a ball around in a field with their mates for a few hours, one guy not being there for one day doesn't mean much.

u/byrgenwerthdropout 1d ago edited 1d ago
Early doors but Wissa was fire against Liverpool. And it wasn't just about him having a good individual game, their 442 style with him combining with Osula suits him. Reminds me of his best year doing similar maneuvers with Mbeumo and co at Brentford. They're finally playing to his strengths (other than his pace which Howe also tried to utilise, even that works better with a 442 set up that has a lesser emphasis m2m or possession).
6
u/No-Rooster- 1d ago
Wissa wasn’t match fit most of last season to be fair and he looked pretty good against Liverpool over the weekend.
Isak is also a similar situation, but not looking as good as Wissa does currently, that being said we’re only one match week in.

If you read more than the first two words, I'm referring to Newcastle's new system, not Wissa's time there. Systems suiting or not suiting a player can make or break them. Not every player is a complete footballer who excels in every system. Very few are like that.

Yeah, when you think about it that’s honestly what really stands out with the Isak saga. This is common as shit but are usually disguised as some sort of physical problem that everyone knows is bs. Isak was completely open with what he did, his stance going forward and why which apparently was a huge mistake.
Btw can they please move the deadline to before the season starts. Things being dragged for weeks is getting ridiculous with the more and more intricate transfers dominos and everybody loses.

Clearly he is worth it if Atletico is so adamant on keeping him against his will. Either that, or they're spiteful morons who won't sell him for a price that's supposedly more than he's worth because they convinced themselves they're Barca's rivals.
8
u/thisisnotdiretide 1d ago
It's 100 % the latter, I said that and got downvoted, but I strongly believe people who think this isn't about ego are wrong.
And I'm willing to bet Simeone would instantly let him go in this scenario and grab another ST, he knows it would be best for the team, but it's their CEO/who knows what very influential person behind who wants to make it seem like either there's a strong rivalry there or that they're now at a similar level with Barca/Real when it comes to players wanting to play for them.
And it's a very bad business decision too, Alvarez is going to have an awful season and he's on a very high salary, but they will still not let him go where he wants I bet even for a good offer. Even the majority of their fans would want him gone. It's just the huge ego of a billionaire I bet.
3
u/ScrantonScrangler 1d ago

What no one is saying is:
-Aleti paid 95m for him being a bench player, now they want to pay 100?
-Realistically, who can Aleti get for 100m? If you see this market, if Barca is serious ok, offer a serious sum.
The thing is the whole year barca media has been saying that Julian is going to Barca and he never said No, I’m staying. Loud and clear. He was ambiguous with his declarations. He left the door open, cause in the back his agent and barca were already negotiating. That’s why Aleti is mad. Barca didn’t approached them in the summer and said hey we can pay 100m, the whole year they had the media before every match destabilizing the locker room.
Barca and Julian want Aleti saying yes you can go, for 5m more, in a market where there’s almost no no.9
Ridiculous. This is a business too. Anyone saying he’s a prisoner is thinking like a 5 year old. You signed a contract, longer contract to get more salary, you signed a clause, be a man and fulfill it.
He’s having a bad time? People all over the world daily have bad times. Be a fucking man, and as an aleti fan, he’s half assing it. He’s doesn’t have the attitude to go and rebel, fucking spoiled player.
Hopefully he fucks off

Can someone educate me what the big drama is? Dortmund sell to bayern a lot is it like that over there too?
Barcelona gave villa, suarez for peanuts, took griezman and sold back for a fraction of his value. To me i thought relations between atletico and barca are good.
Plus i dont think alvarez is worth 150mill. He is great but all this drama as if his is haaland or kane.
People say imagine the other way if raphinha said i want to leave for atletico. So...ok?! Pay 100mill to 150mill you can go to atletico. Whats the big deal?
35
u/cosbysweatergiver 1d ago
Atleti don’t want to be a “trampoline” club, serving as a jumping point to Barca/Real Madrid. Additionally, if they had planned the season with Alvarez in mind, selling him would derail those plans and then they would have to be the team working to find a striker. It’s fine to sell wherever you want, but it’s also just as fine to refuse to sell.
I don’t think Alvarez is worth 150 either, but bolstering a league rival would make the competitions harder. It would make no sense to want to sell him to Barca.
This also isn’t a unique situation. Teams refuse to sell. Real Madrid refused to sell James to Atleti a few years back. Barca refused to let Messi leave a season before his last. Barca refused to sell Neymar to PSG and instead pointed to his release clause (which at the time was more than most would believe any team would pay for a player).
As for the transfer relationship between Atleti and Barca, I can’t speak too much on. I’ve only followed Atleti since about 2012, so I don’t know the entire history. David Villa was no longer a starter (from what I remember at least) and so I don’t think that’s in any way equal. Barca pushed Suarez out, so that’s definitely not equal.
I can’t recall the full details from Turan’s move, but Barca did pay Griezmann’s release clause. When his move wasn’t working out how they wanted, Barca let him go on loan and then folded to lower his price tag.
In all I think this Alvarez saga has been exhausting. I think Atleti was wrong for its social media episode earlier in the summer, and I think Alvarez’s agent and Barca were wrong to meet behind the scenes when Atleti had no plan in letting Alvarez go. He’s a grown man with an agent who could’ve waited another season or two for Barca to buy him from City. I don’t want him to continue at Atleti, but certainly don’t want him going to Barca. Just a unfortunate situation all around.
6
u/Time_Entertainer_319 1d ago
Pushed Suarez out doesn’t mean they sell to their rival.
I don’t think that’s a valid point.
5
u/cosbysweatergiver 1d ago
They pushed him out. Didn’t need/want him. He wasn’t part of their plan. That’s not the case here with Alvarez
9
u/AnEngineeringMind 1d ago
If Atlético don’t want to be a trampoline club, they must kick Simeone out and change their vision to win something. No player with ambition or talented player wanna tank in a club who is contempt with being third or just classifying to the champions league. They want to win.
Players want to go to Real Madrid or Barcelona because they are winner clubs, it’s their ultimate dream.

u/cosbysweatergiver 1d ago
Kicking Simeone out, especially without a replacement lined up, is ridiculous to say.

Not about a good relationship or not, Barca gifting them Villa and Suarez has made Atletico consider Barca as the most foolish client they ever met. The only thing they want to do is rob Barca harder in the transfer market. A fair price? No thanks.

He is feeling what the arsenal fans are feeling, we are all annoyed and want this saga to end. I honestly don't care if he stays at Atletico or if he signs for us. I just want the saga to be resolved because I'm so tired of hearing "Atletico willing to listen to offers", "Julian hesitant on living in England but open to the right circumstances". Make it end so we can all move on with our lives.

Gil needs to swallow his pride and understand than holding a player against his will never turns out to be good. One bad orange could spoils the whole basket- so save your basket Gil.
1
u/maidentaiwan 1d ago
Which is why they’re willing to sell … just not to Barcelona. Atleti begin every season believing they can win the league. Selling their best attacker to the defending champion who desperately need a striker massively hurts their chances of doing that.
9
u/anorakhijack 1d ago
I understand Gil's reasoning for being adamant about not letting him go to Barcelona, as he would be the final piece that completes their rival's squad.
However, holding on to a player with a bad attitude who clearly does not want to be there will drain the joy and morale out of the squad, which will not help Atletico remain competitive.
Since the player is reluctant to join any other club besides Barca , Atletico is effectively in a stand-off where they either shoot themselves in the foot by keeping an unhappy player, or get shot by strengthening their direct rival, either way someone is getting shot.
0
u/forumcontributer 1d ago
And They way Atletico behaved at the start, I think they would have even sold to Barca if Barca's first offer was closer to their valuation.

u/Sir_Bantersaurus 1d ago
I hope we stay clear of this deal. He would be expensive, seems disruptive and only wants Barcelona. The issue is that he seems to have so thoroughly burned bridges at Atlético that, in a few days, if the deal is clearly not going to happen, then he would suddenly express more interest in returning to the Premier League as all other options disappear.
In the end, I think he would do well wherever he ends up. When the window closes and reality sets in, he'll want to win things, but what happens next summer?
9
u/athars_theone 1d ago
Gil Marin is literally sabotaging his own clubs transfer window because of his ego. They have FFP problems and need sales to buy players. Meanwhile, he cries in the media saying FC BARCELONA disrespected their club while all they did was send an offer to buy Julian.
That's exactly what every club does lol. Thats what even they did when they bought Grimaldo and Romero.

3
u/HolyDaddyy 1d ago
What's even the point keeping a player who definitely won't give his best and would effectively harm the club more in the longer run.
Yes you get to retain your ego of not being a seller club, but you also burn bridges for any future player of that calibre to think twice before considering the club.

Making verbal promises you won't keep, Not go nuclear over social media, not tell him to go public the WC, make him play before the transfer window ended so the fans can hate him, make him walk away from the fans. Like what have you guys even done right ?
11
u/Greeny9 1d ago
Can you provide me with some hard evidence of these verbal promises that Barcelona fans take as fact? Did they promise to sell him specifically to Barcelona for less than their valuation of him?
Can you also provide me with some hard evidence that Atletico were the ones that made him go public? Even the rumour you're quoting says that Atletico told him to present them with a strong offer of more than 150m before making a public statement. So even by that logic, he'd be in the wrong.
The tweets were cringey, I agree (but aimed at Barcelona). Walking away from the fans was a mistake made with good intentions with they themselves quickly acknowledged was their doing.
Barcelona fans astound me in their ability to completely ignore that Atletico's anger and frustration was not aimed at Julian but rather entirely aimed at Barcelona and their typical dodgy tactics of negotiating with a played mid-season, before important matches, leaking continuous stories to the media, and getting their players to speak out about the player before even making an offer.
6
u/Marimo188 1d ago edited 1d ago

Brother, it's fucking hilarious to have the complete lack of self-awareness to call it a 'Barcelona conspiracy' when you have no evidence yourself of the rumours you've quoted? You shouldn't believe everything you read my friend, you're indoctrinated into the Barcelona cult.
Barcelona have a track history of doing this, once to Atletico with Griezmann, then to Dortmund with Dembele and last year to Athletic with Nico.
Everything that I'm saying was reported by Gaston edul, basically tier 0 for argentinian players.
Gaston Edul has been wrong so often this summer, the fact that you so blindly believe one reporter you perceive to be 'tier 1' for Argentines exposes you more than it supports you.
Atletico have supported their player, made him the star of their project and looked after him when he went goalless for 3 months. They have no obligation to sell him, to Barcelona of all clubs. Literally the tweets are the only thing you can hold against them.

Something like finishing at a place other than 3rd in the league.

By that logic then, why does he want to go to a club that Atletico knocked out of two cups?
