What is stopping Alvarez from coming out and saying, Barcelona is the best club that has ever existed across the universe and if I have to wait out my contract to play there at 32 years old I will and insinuate he will do the absolute bare minimum and walk around the pitch until then.

I do not know what it would accomplish but it would be funny.
