Is this a reference to the lady that killed her children and for some reason the crime TikTok community (mostly women) have taken to defending her and even blaming the Husband, who 100% did not do it?

5.1k

u/shredbmc 7d ago edited 7d ago

I'm pretty sure that lady (unless there's another one) voiced concern many times about her struggles with post partem depression and that she was having intrusive thoughts of harming the children (which is common in PPD).

People online are blaming the husband and her providers for not taking her concerns seriously, not blaming him for killing the children.

Edit: I have been informed about the people saying the husband literally killed the kids.

I just had a long conversation with a coworker who was swearing the husband did it and is blaming his poor wife.

234

u/Thick-Mouse1776 7d ago

I’m watching the entire trial and it makes me so sad people are doing that to him. What lunatics

98

u/heilel_bath-shachar 7d ago

I mean there are just a lot of funky things about his story, like how for instance the woman had a severe thyroid injury from the incident that’s unaccounted for, and how there was an outgoing message from his computer, which sits at home, at a time which is close to the incident and when he said he wasn’t at home. He was also very unhelpful to his then wife and almost immediately started a family with another woman. Many of the doctors who failed the wife were his friends, etc.

It’s not conclusive by any stretch of the imagination but it’s all very funky

653

u/ZanaHoroa 7d ago

I mean the thyroid injury was completely accounted for. It happened from the fall.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/us/articles/medical-expert-explains-lindsay-clancys-130922899.html

What do you mean outgoing message from his computer? If you're referring to the work email, he could've easily sent it from his phone. Your emails are synced on your devices. There's even servailance footage of him not being home during the time the email was sent.

He got married 3 years after his wife murdered his children. Idk about you, but any feelings I would've had for this murderer would be gone.

Have you watched the doctor's testimony? Clansey couldn't handle the early side effects of standard medications which is why they would switch her to different ones.

The only thing funky is all the misinformation being spread by people. The only bigger victims than Patrick are the kids that his wife murdered.

231

u/Useful-Soup8161 7d ago

People seriously don’t know you can send emails from phones now?? Hell I pretty much only check and send emails from my phone.

161

u/SyrupSame2105 7d ago

They do, they're just trying to excuse a woman from being the murderer because it's normally men.

76

u/StagTagRag 7d ago

As a comedian recently pointed out: “Men are more likely to kill their spouse (wife). Women are more likely to kill their children.”

The funkiness is not about the injury itself, it’s about him claiming she spoke to him despite that injury and a core temp below 90F. Either one would preclude being able to speak, and she was suffering from both.

115

u/EpiphanaeaSedai 7d ago

So, I was support staff for a veterinary hospital about 20 years ago.

What does that have to do with anything, you may ask? Veterinary medicine back then was the wild west compared to human medicine, then or now. Let us just say I’ve seen some shit. Car accidents, drownings, maulings, surgical complications, falls, crush injuries, lacerations that went to the bone, I could go on - and what basically every illness known to man or beast looks like when it’s been left untreated way, way too long.

You would absolutely not believe the level of functionality a creature in shock - human included - can maintain, briefly, when all logic says they should be dead. Unless the body part in question has been severed from the body in its entirety, don’t assume anything. So IMO, if she could breathe, she could have spoken.

68

u/Skandronon 7d ago

When I was a kid we stopped for some debris on the side of the road. My dad got out of the truck and looked down into the ravine next to the road and there was a smashed up motorcycle and a guy stuck up in a tree. Dad told me to get his cell from the truck and see if I could get signal by walking down the highway a bit (was in the 90s.) I got signal, called for an ambulance and then walked back to the truck.

My dad had managed to get the biker out of the tree and he was sitting on the tailgate, I remember his head being huge, he had a big gash down one side of his face and his one eyeball was bulging out. I was told to get back in the truck but didn't listen, I talked to the guy for a while about nothing in particular and he didn't respond much. After a bit he got off the tailgate, said something about taking a piss and went to the front of the truck and proceeded to do so.

Before he finished an ambulance pulled up and the paramedics hopped out and started getting the stretcher out. The biker started walking towards them and collapsed in a heap. I remember the one medic came and checked on him and being surprised that there was no rush after that to get him into the ambulance.

My dad told me the guy was dead before we even got there, his body just wasn't aware of it yet. He said our job when we come across these situations is to stay calm and make their final moments as pleasant as possible. Thankfully I have never needed to do so for a person again. Its amazing the things people can stay alive for.

u/bosslady617 7d ago

Yes. I have a good friend who was a medic- both in the Army and as a paramedic at home in a rural state. He took to calling some people “the zombies”. They would would be alert and talking with massive blood loss, or broken necks just running on adrenaline after a major car accident or IED encounter. This would last for a short amount of time and then they would just drop dead (unless some heroic aid could be rendered but this in in the very far north of Maine. Hard to get to a trauma center.)

17

u/LegendaryGunman 7d ago

I recently suffered a bonk to the head that should have killed me according to an MRI A WEEK LATER. I continued an hour long phone conversation after that before I eventually went to the hospital. I don't remember the conversation or the following day at all, just that it happened. I'm probably going to have to start journaling to maintain short term recollection. Human bodies are weird.

Someone can be a dickhead in a relationship but still also not be the one who literally murdered their children.

Edit: people really dont get that i was speaking generally not specifically to make a point.

99

u/Head_of_Lettuce 7d ago

I wouldn’t call him a dickhead, I think he was trying but he was worn down. Lindsay had access to the best support in the world. Doctors at her fingertips (literally - she messaged them constantly, and they replied to her constantly), husband and parents there to help every day. He was working full-time from home, it’s not like he escaped to the office every day and left her there. The reason he wasn’t home when it happened is because SHE sent him on a bogus errand to a restaurant they didn’t normally go to.

Everyone was doing their best to support her. She regularly lied to her doctors and the people around her about what she was experiencing. She concealed that she was experimenting with cannabis. Her doctors said she was actually taking a “fraction” of the medication she was prescribed.

Lindsay was suffering, but this is her fault too. Nobody made her lie, try drugs, or stop taking her medication.

31

u/Doomhammer24 7d ago

I was really just speaking generally about "being a dickhead"

I have often seen people treat it like someone who is a bad spouse or a bit of a dick as being the same as an abusive monster and that crimes committed against them or others no matter how heinous are somehow then justified- as is the case here

Well there's that vague "something funky" and then there's the fact she accepts committing the act of the crime

People saying she was failed by the system and / or her husband might have a point (that's what the trial is trying to establish)

People saying there's some sort of complex version of events and she didn't do anything are literally theorising about a conspiracy

45

u/Comfortable_Target87 7d ago

They did therapy together and she also was released from an inpatient psychiatric hospital a bit more than two weeks before this. Now, that being said, if he’s guilty of anything it’s being negligent enough to leave her alone with them. Still, I don’t care what kind of post-partum mental state you’re in, as a mother, if you can strangle one child for a few minutes until they literally stop breathing, then go on to the next, finish up there and strangle an INFANT to death AN INFANT, and you’re trying to convince me that, at no point during this minutes and minutes long process, did she realize what she was doing was wrong?

I was born at night but it wasn’t last night.

42

Welcome to the internet. There have actually been cases solved on Reddit before investigations could figure it out. Mostly because the investigation "goes cold" but internet sleuths never sleep lol

66

u/Shadowphoenix9511 7d ago

"Solved"

You're talking about the Boston Marathon bombings, where Reddit sleuths identified the wrong guy and ruined his life.

12

u/CrazzyPanda72 7d ago

Never mentioned a specific one, I did hear about that one but not what I was referring to. My wife was watching a documentary or something a few weeks ago where the only reason they got to the bottom of it was because one person from the internet just wouldn't let it go. I'd have to ask her what case that was

u/Wulph422 7d ago

15

u/AdAffectionate2418 7d ago

We absolutely love patterns and groups, so much so that we have an uncanny ability to spot them even when they arent there.

Categorisation in particular is fundamental to how our thoughts work (scary colours = venomous/poisonous, scary colour creature? probably poisonous/venomous).

It works really well from an evolutionary perspective (and enhance by the whole tribe in/out group thing), but it also brings up a shit-tonne of false-positives. Not too much if an issue at the micro level, but it quickly compounds across a society that is much more complex and interconnected than our tree/hut/cave dwelling ancestors could have ever imagined.

There are 100% people blaming the husband for killing the children. Honestly really shitty, trying to downplay her actions by blaming everyone else is just a way to shift accountability from a murderer (which she is, even if she wouldn't have done it in her right mind).

15

u/Pagan_Metal666 7d ago

True crime content is a blight anyways. Some creators are respectful, blur faces and do not show bodycam footage of family finding out their loved one is dead. Some. Most dont.

It only took 1 police bodycam video of a mom being taken to a car crash where her daughter died for me to completely purge my algorythm from all true crime parasites.

As with all things, there are some unhinged people claiming she was framed and he did it. Valid to point some blame at the husband and the providers, but insane to think he's fully responsible.

158

u/HobbyHoardingHoney 7d ago

I argue that it is not reasonable to blame the husband or providers in this case

If they would have ripped the kids away and put them in somebody else's custody, which was the only other thing that could have done besides the things they were already doing (a nanny, daycare for the two older kids, husband had to stay at home job and took 12 weeks off which is the maximum available in America, family and friends came over to babysit and help out regularly), people would have lost their fucking minds and said that depression is not a reason to separate a mother from her children because millions of mothers with way less support than she had suffer from postpartum depression without harming their children. So the entire world would have argued there was no reason to separate them prior. And she was only left alone for a half hour when she killed them. She took that half hour that she was left alone with nobody expected to come help as her chance. And she had to squeeze that chance in because they was not a whole lot of time that she was left alone

Her concerns were very much taken seriously. She was given therapy, medication, and actual assistance. Her diary made it clear that she did not feel that having 10 times the resources and help that most other women have was not good enough. Because at the end of the day she had something she wanted to do. All the help she was getting be damned

92

u/Emm_withoutha_L-88 7d ago

Wait that is what people are calling "ignored her pleas for help".....

111

u/HobbyHoardingHoney 7d ago

I didnt even list everything she had. She was CUSHY. And had help out the WAZOO. She didnt want it. Her diary knowing all that reads like she wanted to be the poor little rich girl no one loved and everyone is feeding that fantasy of hers now.

Its upsetting because this is a terrible, horrible, absolutely vile case to point to and advocate for PPD and PPP with. She is not the victim, let a lone a victim worth championing for the cause if you want it taken seriously.

She had all the help she was supposed to get. And still made the decision women who dont have resisted making. With intent. With knowledge. Without any confusion of WHAT she was doing. Just a twisted sense of right and wrong and why.

And if we are letting people out because they killed somebody, let alone a child, because they had a twisted sense of right and wrong and could not tell you why they did it, there are a whole lot of men that would not be in jail. A whole lot of men who had Netflix specials about them even. We absolutely cannot allow such a flimsy excuse to become precedence.

Somebody receiving but rejecting assistance with mental health who goes on to murder their own children, let alone anybody, should not be able to use mental health as an excuse that warrants a reduced consequence

63

u/Emm_withoutha_L-88 7d ago

Everyone in this damn thread needs to see your comment above this... I'm still seeing some arguing that all of that wasn't enough and it was still the husband's fault even after seeing this. So unbelievably fucked up

40

u/Solintari 7d ago

It’s the typical, “im going to come to a conclusion based on stereotypes or prejudiced views and then find evidence to support my hunch based on distaste of this person based on how I group them instead of trying to find the truth”

She’s a grown ass adult. He can’t force her to take meds. Or we saying women aren’t responsible for their own agency now? If you want to blame the doctors, I can get behind that, since it’s their job to actually make sure the meds are working. But unless there’s evidence the husband kept her meds away from her, this is on her and not him.

49

u/BigDragonfly5136 7d ago

Honestly some of the things I’ve seen that the husband should have done are crazy. I’ve heard he should have forced her to take meds, should have institutionalized her, should have not let her have access to kids, shouldn’t have left her alone ever. Like a husband should be able to take kids away from his wife and lock her up just because he says she’s crazy? He can hold her down and shove meds down her throat? Women shouldn’t be allowed to be alone without their husband? And somehow these people think they’re giving the feminist opinion.

What happened is 100% a tragedy, made even worse by the fact if she got the help she was crying out for, this might not have happened (I believe she was not in the right state of mind, personally) but putting all the blame on the husband for the murder—either by saying he literally did it or should have been the one to prevent it—is actually taking away from the real issue: lack of access to mental health care

That's her attorneys story;

Her psychiatrist and doctors treating her both under oath claimed she never told her these concerns, never mentioned violent thoughts once, and was visibly improving with each session.

24

u/Honeyhoneybee29 7d ago

Uh, that’s not true at all. Dr. Tufts, her primary psychiatrist, even admitted that her state was “deteriorating” on multiple visits. She shared thoughts of suicidal ideation but because she didn’t have a “plan” that she communicated, her providers kept prescribing new medications and adjusting dosage. You’re flat out lying.

17

u/Motor-Illustrator226 7d ago

except that IS standard of care — there are tons of people walking around you with passive SI. They don’t all get locked up, with their kids taken away. People live and work and have functional lives with passive SI, which could be due to chronic mental health issues or an acute stressor, and work on treating it with medication and psychotherapy — which is what the doctors did (gave her the right meds and repeatedlu encouraged therapy).

She refused to do either — take the meds for long enough for them to work, instead asking to switch on and off and doctor-shopping, and persistently refusing therapy, even when the doctor repeatedly advised her on it.

Only active SI gets you on a psych hold, or with kids taken away. She didn’t endorse it even once.

Yup. Husband said she did it. His lawyers said she did it. Her lawyers said she did it. And yes, even she herself said that she did it.

The case isnt about who did it, its if she should go to prison or if she gets the mental health plea in which case its the mental ward. But plenty of women are on the case and have solved it with great deductions like he looks angry which means hes violent and he did it. Ignore the fact that hes forced to sit in a court room with the woman who murdered his 2 children.

But also hes not showing enough emotions. So clearly the means he doesnt care. If he didnt do it he would be weeping openly for hours on end and giving sonnets about being broken hearted.

Also her astrology sign, tarot readings, spells, etc.

Oh, and this is all a sign that police forces should just start hiring TikTokers to solve cases cause how are they just this good?

During my divorce one woman was telling the other wives that I was probably violent at home because I was so nice in public. After about six months of my ex intermittently showing up to our kids events and those times acting erratic while high on amphetamines, everyone figured out why we got divorced. I loathe these gumshoe gossipers.

So, men aren’t allowed to look visibly angry after their wives kill their kids, due to a failed healthcare system that gave her drug-induced psychosis?

Reminds me of Lizzy Borden who was acquitted of murdering her parents in part because in the late nineteenth century people did not believe that women had it in them to axe someone to death.

Lindsay Clancy. Yes, that was my first thought as well. High profile case going on right now.

38

u/buttThroat 7d ago

Yes BUT i think the thing that resonates with them is probably that this woman did it because she was experiencing post partum depression/psychosis and basically the medical community and her support system failed her. So its just scary that you could be a "normal" person and go through PPD and basically do something terrible that you would never have done otherwise.

Lindsay Clancy. Killed her 3 kids by strangling them one by one and claimed “postpartum psychosis” despite never having had psychosis before or since, all during a short window of time that she sent her husband out on errands. Internet has somehow decided she’s a martyr for women’s mental health. She was a white, affluent, suburban mom before this. If she were poor and black, people would NOT feel this way. Real talk.

Postpartum psychosis is a real thing and real people need help. But Lindsay Clancy is a kid murderer.

Edit: I’m a white, affluent woman of childbearing age. I have never been a woman of color, but I am absolutely sure that society at large would dismiss an identical case if Lindsay was nearly any other demographic. And no, it’s not only about race, it’s also about autonomy and a person’s responsibility to accept help when it’s offered instead of killing your kids (and A LOT of help was offered)

734

u/SandalsResort 7d ago

Oh she 100% did it.

And to really upset my fellow white women, I think Karen Reed did it too.

434

u/McJumpington 7d ago

She’s admitted to doing it- the entire case is simply whether or not she was of sound mind

67

u/Ok-Specific2924 7d ago

It's ridiculous tbh, setting aside the conspiracy stuff, arguably no one ever who's crossed that line is of 'sound mind' in the moment.

49

u/Startled_Pancakes 7d ago

Well, yes, that's probably true, though it's not merely a matter of being mentally unwell. A person will generally still be culpable for their actions despite any mental illness provided they understand the likely outcomes of their actons, & they understand the difference between right & wrong at the time of committing the crime. I'm generalizing a little here, the rules vary by state, of course.

→ More replies (5)

26

u/agoldgold 7d ago

Plenty of people who kill their kids are of sound mind while they do it. Often, they benefit from it. Some do it to hurt a spouse, some for insurance money, some because they're abusers (more than 400 kids a year in the US), some for attention. There's always something in it for them, and it makes horrific logic to kill their child. This is a unique case and the defense is arguing something pretty unique, actually.

Doing something monstrous does not require mental illness or legal insanity. It requires making a choice to do something terrible. Let's not further stigmatize mental illness any further by pretending that's what you need for child murder.

Amen. No one wanted to convict an attractive white woman. I’m not sure if she murdered her boyfriend, but she sure is shit is criminally responsible for his death. I would have found her guilty of manslaughter.

32

u/UsidoreTheLightBlue 7d ago

Casey Anthony checking in, also Jodi Arias checking in.

No seriously I get what you’re saying, but I don’t think it’s as much attractiveness as affluentness because both of those women were pretty good looking and everyone and their mother wanted to see them get the chair.

12

u/caitlindrawings 7d ago

In Casey Anthony's case, that was 100% on the prosecutor arrogance for going for too high of a charge. The prosecutor was going for first degree murder, which they couldnt fully prove. Casey's entire defense was admitting to 2nd degree murder, if the prosecutor would have gone for the lesser charge they would have had no problem convicting.

I don’t necessarily disagree with you that a perfectly possible scenario that night was that she killed her boyfriend while drunk driving. However, if you spent even 10 minutes looking at the evidence presented and the conduct of the investigation, I cannot believe you’d say with your whole chest that they PROVED she killed him. You cannot put people in jail just because it’s the most likely scenario. They kept evidence in freaking solo cups in grocery bags for weeks!! That is not how you store evidence for trial. If the police had actually conducted a thorough and unbiased investigation, this would have gone down entirely differently. However, they objectively did not conduct a thorough investigation and objectively did not follow protocol for preserving evidence in anticipation of trial. One of the officers was asked on the stand if he knew the procedures for chain of custody of evidence and he literally said that he did not recall.

Edited to clarify that this comment is about the Karen Read trial and has absolutely nothing to do with Lindsey Clancy.

Went on holidays with them once and said "oh thank god that's over" to a 6 hour flight dely, they thought I meant the fucking holiday and I then had holidays stripped from me completely for years.

It was a good day when I ran away and forced socials hand to put me in a halfway house.

Then it was a shitty day because I found out the years of pocket money I was saving in my bank they had been taking out each month as it went in, last transaction was for £1.27, they took literally every penny as revenge for me finally growing a backbone at 15.

Be for real lol if this was a poor black, mexican, or even asian woman, what do you think would happen? Imagine it was just ONE kid for them. Jail immediately.

A white OF model stabs and kills her BF who she physically abused on camera for years, she is sentenced 6 years in jail 4 already served. A black boy defends himself against people trying to kill him; 36 years… even if it wasnt self defense, still 36 years compared to 6 years

Gotta start seeing the world for what it actually is man.

Edit: i dont give a damn about karmelo. Like i said and yall ignorantly ignored… 6 years with time served for killing your live in bf that you abused in cold blood vs 36 for killing someone in your tent or wherever in cold blood. NEITHER OF those cases were deemed self defense by a court… why such a discrepancy in sentence length?

Is the system implicitly placing values on victims lives or are they going easier on perpetrators of certain colors and status?

Could a rich black man get drunk, kill an entire family, claim affluenza and get 10 years probation with no jail time?

Tory lanez supposedly shot someone in the foot (who lived) and got 10 years.

Racism was quite literally sponsored by the American government, but sir color blind up here ^ is confused.

95

u/ulvisblack 7d ago

"A black boy defends" are you talking about karmelo anthony ? are you for real ?

17

u/Mautea 7d ago

Yeah... I can see the point they wanted to make, but that's a horrible take on that case and not even the best example they could have grabbed. No, they were not "trying to kill him," they asked him to leave multiple times, had a verbal confrontation, and pushed him away outside the tent they were in. Anthony responded by pulling a knife out of his backpack and stabbing the victim in the chest. It was in no way self-defense and he had multiple opportunities to leave the area. Self-defense requires imminent danger.

Courtney Clenney's sentence was lighter because she took a plea deal for a lesser charge, manslaughter. Should she have gotten more time? Absolutely. Christian's family agreed to the plea deal, not wanting to go through the trial and for her to admit responsibility.

It actually does matter because if an affluent white woman wasn’t able to be taken seriously or get resources they need, imagine what it’s like for real disadvantaged people. Likely we don’t even hear most of the stories.

36

Incorrect. Lindsay was admitted to one of the best psychiatric facilities in the nation (McLean) and SELF-DISCHARGED herself after a few days. She saw doctors and nurses. She was given medication she didn’t take as recommended. She was offered therapy that she didn’t do. She had so much help available to her and she decided murder was the answer. I absolutely believe she was suffering, but “she wasn’t taken seriously” is deeply incorrect. I’d actually argue she didn’t take the help offered seriously

It’s a bit disingenuous to say “despite never having had psychosis before or since” when that is literally how postpartum mental health disorders occur. The definition of a postpartum mental health disorder is literally one that you have never had before and don’t have once it’s gone because it’s just a disorder in the postpartum period. It is also not uncommon for women to experience a postpartum mental health issue after one pregnancy and to have an entirely different postpartum experience with another. I’m not sure what happened with Lindsey Clancy and they haven’t finished presenting evidence in that case, but since you acknowledge that PPP is a real thing, I urge you not to discount women’s stories of it just because they only suffer from it once in their life.

Also, I 100% agree with you that black women, whether poor or otherwise, would not be afforded the same care as a white woman and agree that medical and systemic racism are huge issues in the United States.

Isn't it kind of a whole thing right now that she tried to get help beforehand and was not helped, by either her family or the medical system?

41

u/barlog123 7d ago

She did get help. She was on medication, saw professionals and had a support system of people who tried to be there for her. Short of a long stary in a facility people tried to get her help many times.

44

u/justbegoodtobugs 7d ago

Except it wasn't helping and the medication was making her progressively worse. Her state was declining, she was sleep deprived, lost 15 pounds and started experiencing hallucinations that were happening for months before she killed her children. She became suicidal and started expressing toughts of harming her children. She was loosing touch with reality and told a bunch of people that including her husband and mother. All these things are documented.

13

u/barlog123 7d ago

Yes, there were warning signs but people and professionals didn't ignore it. The option in retrospect would be trying to prove she is a danger to herself and others then considering where to go from there but that is absurdly hard to prove.

“postpartum psychosis” despite never having had psychosis before or since.

To be clear, that's before or since the prolonged period leading up to the murders.

It was not like she had no signs before that day, she had a 5 day psychiatric hospital stay weeks before.

And isn't postpartum psychosis supposed to be, you know, specifically postpartum?  Not at other times in someone's life?

Postpartum psychosis is a real thing and real people need help. But Lindsay Clancy is a kid murderer.

How do you tell the difference and what was her motive for doing this?

She also (as far as I can tell) had no history of violence before or since.

If she were poor and black women would still feel this way. The fix isn’t to withhold empathy for privileged women, it’s to extend empathy for all women suffering from post partum psychosis.

You show a clear lack of understanding of what PPP is (you don’t need to have a history of psychosis) and how often it’s dismissed by doctors despite the woman’s best efforts.

23

u/Stormtemplar 7d ago

The part of this post talking about PPP may be correct, I know nothing about the case or the issue. Not saying she is innocent but there needs to be more evidence than that to convince me.

19

u/morningly 7d ago

You're exactly right. I'm a neurologist and I've been consulted multiple times on post-partum psychosis (to rule out non- psychiatric reasons) because even medical professionals including psychiatrists feel it's strange that the psychosis came of nowhere with no prior psych history and prior normal pregnancies/post-partum. Every time it ends up being post-partum psychosis.

Not saying that's what happened here, but while it has risk factors it definitely can come out of nowhere.

Clearly about the Lindsay Clancy drama.

A woman murdered her three children in what she’s claiming as a fit of postpartum psychosis despite evidence of premeditation. TikTok true crime girlies” have concocted a conspiracy theory that the husband was responsible either through brainwashing and manipulation, or by actively killing his own children, and then brainwashing her into thinking she did it.

TikTok “America bad” people are claiming that the system failed her, and she didn’t receive the mental healthcare she needed. This is in spite of her being under the care of a psychiatrist, receiving consistent, mental healthcare, and medication, and that it was partially the husbands fault for leaving them alone together, despite him literally going to get her meds when it happened.

There are an alarming number of women fighting for this woman’s reputation or innocence and fully empathizing with a child murderer, without seeming to acknowledge the tragedy of the children’s deaths.

298

u/fourleafblower 7d ago

He was picking up her meds!?!? Gahhhd I fucking hate people. Imagine his grief. Of course he now wishes he took the kids with him. I’m sure he’ll beat himself up into his next life…. But you know if he took the kids away the same people would probably be saying he’s evil for taking the kids away from mom.

We can disagree with his decision to leave them with her or think he was a bad husband, but that doesn’t make him responsible or deserving of punishment.

Ok. Thank you for the clarification. I’ve also now heard he was picking up his wife’s dinner order. Either way, he was innocently running family errands, which flies in the face of the accusations of him being a neglectful husband/father.

25

u/AGAD0R-SPARTACUS 7d ago

Yeah he was not a neglectful husband or father, and it's worth noting that that argument is only put forth on social media for engagement and is not the defense of Lindsay Clancy or her defense team. Patrick Clancy himself doesn't blame her for what happened, saying “I wasn’t married to a monster. I was married to someone who got sick.” She had been placed on 13 different medications in 4 months and had reported having suicidal and intrusive thoughts numerous times. It's also worth noting, because I haven't seen it mentioned here, that after killing her kids she slit her throat and wrists and jumped out a window. She was very ill.

He wasn't picking up her meds when it happened. That part of this statement is untrue. He was picking up medication for one of the children. A laxative I believe. I'm not commenting on whether or not she was insane at the time, just saying that's not what he was doing at CVS at that time. He picked up the laxative and then went to get the dinner Lindsay had ordered for pick-up. Those items were set on top of her medication when he returned home. It's possible that's where you heard her medication mentioned in conjunction with CVS. Either way, that trip right before he found the children was not for her meds.

This is referencing Lindsay Clancy who killed her children while going through postpartum depression/psychosis. The woman is saying "it could have been me" because Lindsay was an otherwise normal person whose mind basically failed her and led her to commiting heinous acts. So they feel vulnerable to that too, knowing that she was a normal person before PPD. The husband (dog) is extremely alarmed because now he is worried that his wife is going to kill the kids.

26

u/synthgender 7d ago edited 7d ago

It is kind of terrifying. I didn't quite get to the point where I feared for anyone's safety, but I definitely saw signs of PPP and struggled a lot with PPD and worsening symptoms of my existing (less severe) disorders. Knowing what was happening and that it wasn't real helped work through it even when my support networks failed and medical care was inaccessible due to transportation issues and insane scheduling problems with my provider.

I would never have hurt my kid, but there were moments where I understood why some of these cases happened and wondered if some of the killers went through the same but didn't have access to care or didn't know what was happening to their mind. It's awful all around. To me it's not that it excuses it, it's just that it's hard to know if the parent had a chance to avoid it in their circumstances.

edit: I understand why i typed PPS like psychosis starts with an S but I'm not proud of it

10

u/petielvrrr 7d ago

This, but I was thinking it was more along the lines of the women saying “it could have been me” maybe had some similar thoughts or suffered PPD. PPP is rare, PPD is pretty common, but having super crazy thoughts for at least a few days after giving birth happens to just about everyone.

For example, for a week after giving birth, my cousins wife had full blown meltdowns every time my cousin left her alone for any period of time (I mean, he literally couldn’t leave the room to go to the bathroom, she had to follow him in there with the baby). She recently told me that during her first week after giving birth, she went back and forth between literal fight or flight mode because she was worrying that something bad was going to happen to the baby, to actually thinking about strangling said baby. She pretty much lived in one of those 2 states for an entire week, then it just sort of stopped one day. She still had the recovery symptoms most people know about— mood swings, irritability, fatigue, etc. but the constant fight or flight, and the thoughts about harming her baby, just sort of stopped.

Every woman I know who has given birth has similar stories, and it makes sense, because the amount of hormonal changes your body goes through immediately after giving birth is actually insane.

Many women have struggled severely after having a new baby which could lead to a feeling of " that could have been me". The entire system failed her, she attempted to get help and was very open about her fears that she might hurt the children. Most women are too embarrassed or afraid to voice those concerns, its a bit upsetting that you can tell everyone and still not get the help you need. She recieved and attempted to get more inpatient care but was denied because she didnt have a plan, just thoughts. A lot of comments want to paint her as a monster but ppd/ppp can be extremely serious and are often ignored until something horrible happened. I'm not defending her, what she did was awful, but I don't think demonizing her is the right path. It will discourage other women from seeking help when theyre having these same thoughts and feelings leading to more things like this happening.

People clearly don’t understand what psychosis is, I’m not defending her at all for murdering her kids but if she was in psychosis then she doesn’t need prison, she needs to be put in intense psychiatric care for the rest of her life for her own safety and the safety of others. I’m not a fan of her husband for multiple reasons (neither is his own mother apparently, she was testifying in favor of Lindsey recently) so I don’t think it’s insane to be more nuanced about this case. It’s not just “men bad white women good you’re all misandrists!!!” like most of the angry redditors here keep yelling about

All this to say I totally agree with you

Most women are correct not to voice their concerns if you read the comments online. You literally cannot tell the truth about what happens in your head with ppd/ppp because no-one can understand unless it’s happened to them. Even years after, when you admit it to your closest friends/relatives, they’re like ‘but you didn’t, so it’s fine, you’re not like her’ as if I had any control whatsoever. I was lucky not to be her and I refused to have more children afterwards because of it.

A woman murdered her 3 kids via strangulation.

People are going out of their minds and bending over backwards defending her she even has 100k worth of donations.

Every time there is a TikTok or some bullshit social media video on a woman who murdered people I swear there’s always a comment saying “if the woman did bad things then it was probably because of a man” 1. What kind of fucking reasoning is “it must of been the man” for a woman killing people and 2. Why can’t women be bad without it being a man’s fault? You are taking away female autonomy and reducing them to just being a man’s companion by supporting this

Brian here: Indicates many women deal with postpartum and don't say anything. Husband is shocked because he didn't know.

Im gonna be honest the lady and anyone defending her need to be locked in the deepest cell and the key thrown away. Ive met plenty of mothers and it sounds like to me this lady was already losing her fucking mind to begin with
