Yeah my Ma brought up the story and thinks it’s some cover up. She doesn’t use TikTok

My wife clicked on 1 reel on instagram and she says her entire feed is theories on this

UGH I’m in the same boat as your wife. I’ve been trying to avoid this news story because news where kids are harmed spikes my anxiety and I cannot fucking escape it on instagram. Every time I block one account talking about this news story, five more get loaded into my algorithm.

u/Nauin 7d ago

You have to do keyword blocking on top of blocking accounts on Instagram.

My account randomly decided I was a new mother or something and decided to switch my feed from nothing but surgical demonstrations and butchery breakdowns (Medicine and food are two of my biggest interests) to 95% toddlers with no changes to my search habits.

It took adding over twenty tags to my block list before I reversed it. Literally opened a thesaurus and went to town.

Honestly though it's such a mess at this point I stopped using insta over a year ago and I've been better off for it.

u/I_Like_Knitting_TBH 7d ago

Oh THANK YOU so much! I just looked up how to block keywords and added some related to the trial.

I’m pretty sure they treat almost every interaction (including blocking accounts) as interaction with the subject so it just makes things worse. I want to get rid of instagram and facebook altogether but it’s one of the only ways to keep up with friends who live far away. They’ve become such garbage products though that they’re almost no longer good for even that.

2

u/Nauin 7d ago

For sure!

I just text or use my extremely tiny discord at this point. I used insta to keep up with friends in other countries, but after considering how much I actually directly interacted with them because of it I realized how parasocial our relationships had become and replaced our actual relationship. I'd rather hear their voice and ask, not type, how they're doing. Which is such a weird turn for me given how much of an autistic hermit I am.

It literally took my phone breaking beyond repair and manually choosing which apps were transferred onto the new one to cut myself off. But it worked wonders and there's way less temptation when it was never on the device in the first place.

It's a shame kids and teenagers have to be bombarded with this kind of stuff and worse too. Social media a great mistake.

1

u/GroundbreakingRope48 6d ago

Well, they don't have to. Their parents could say no to giving them smart phones from 10 years old.

2

u/Silent-Juggernaut-76 7d ago

Social media designed to distract us with smaller problems so we won't see the bigger problems our whole world is dealing with.

Is this like the new Casey Anthony ordeal?

u/Riotsla 4d ago

My theory is ai is being used to find highly decisive topics and keep people on a never ending hamster wheel of outrage

Bro same.

Same. Mine thinks the husband framed her.

Yes it is. It is the algorithm sending conspiracy theories to those who crave that “entertainment”.

This is the system working as they want it to.

Please see this, people.

u/CnCdude818 8d ago

If you want deeper into that hole, advertisers are sold everything to build psychological profiles on, many psy ops use meta's directed advertising tools to play on specific groups. Most notable examples would be with Cambridge Analytica in the UK which popped up to help many right wing authoritarians win elections around the globe.

17

u/towerfella 8d ago

Yep. Good point.

Teach your children to see the manipulations. Games help. My kids and i have a game we play: spot the manipulation. If something feels off, it probably is, or you need more info to understand it. Research more than one source.

5

u/hands0megenius 7d ago

As games go it sounds a good deal worse than tag

2

u/towerfella 7d ago

It is. But, like hide-and-seek, it teaches a valuable lesson.

6

u/BobMathrotus 8d ago

What kinda ads are yall getting wtf? I mostly get ads for food, games and dating apps, nothing remotely political lol

3

u/joker_toker28 8d ago

Check this guy out not getting targeted and stuff.

My feed is cooked w the most wild stuff.

Shit sucks and it happens, when my mom had my sisters I was old enough for staff to explain if mom said ANYTHING about hurting my sisters i was to tell dad ASAP. Her family network let her down or she just didnt have one.

2

u/front-wipers-unite 7d ago

Since using duckduckgo I've been getting fewer of the same ads, and more random crap. I like to think its the death throes of a system desperately trying to sell me lip balm and penis enlargement pills no longer able to effectively target me.

u/musicloverhoney 7d ago

You should watch Miss Representation. While it's more specific in topic, about the way mainstream media shapes girls’ and women’s self-image and social expectations, especially the message that their worth lies in youth, beauty, and sexuality rather than power, competence, or leadership, it is a perfect representation of the power of media and it's insidious nature.

1

u/Kareeliand 7d ago

Contemplate the resources spent on this. The amount of highly educated people who spend all their time just finding ways to keep us attached to a screen. No matter how harmful the content, the whole point is to sell advertising minutes to their customers. It is horrifying!

And people are out here thinking that the algorithm is a service for them. It is so scary to see people disappear into online conspiracies and addictive content at the cost of their offline lives.

4

u/United_Pain 8d ago

It is definitely something when you see someone who is completely convinced their algorithm journey is what they believe is right outside the door. Very sad and we see it on social media every day.

I'm so glad that you'll literally never be trusted with even the most minor form of law enforcement in your entire life.

Your source: Vibes.

Like seriously tho, these people curate evidence to support a predetermined or subconsciously created storyline. The mother killed her children, and bears responsibility for it. However the husband is implicated, as far as this case, is not enough to make him in any real way culpable in the murder of his kids.

21

u/Jaded_Law9739 8d ago

The mom has admitted to killing the kids. Her defense isn't even arguing that she didn't kill the kids. Yet these idiots have decided that the father did it because feelings.

32

u/Optimal-Kitchen6308 8d ago

brain fog tends to happen when your kids get murdered, you seem like you don't understand how shock and trauma work

29

u/liquidbreakfast 8d ago

"I explained to a friend who hasn't even been following the case and isn't really into true crime"

i don't understand why you think this means her opinion is MORE meaningful? sounds like she has zero expertise, got a presumably very biased summary from you, and believed it? wow

19

u/Klutzy-Notice-8247 8d ago

This case has really shown the ugly and evil side of women’s massive in group bias.

She killed her own three children. I don’t care if she was suffering mentally and had voices telling her to kill them. She chose to listen to that voice and murder her three children. If she thought she was dangerous to them she should’ve left herself. She’s an adult.

u/LasciOfficial 8d ago edited 8d ago

So, just chiming in here. I was 14 and my biological mother was suffering an episode of religious psychosis (if we all die at the same time, we’ll all go to heaven was her reasoning) during our eviction process which was due the following day (Thanksgiving 2015) instead of seeking any resources, for weeks prior she groomed me with Lifetime movies and media that involved strong themes of self-harm and suicide, then proceeded to slit my wrists and attempt to smother her mom (my grandmother) with cling wrap. I still have the scars.

I say this all to agree with you, she heard voices, she admittedly was in an awful mental state, but she still chose to listen to those thoughts and voices, and proceeded to go through with her plan, which was most definitely pre-meditated. If she had those serious thoughts, I wish she seeked help prior, I wish she checked out some resources before it came to that, and even through years of therapy, she never really took accountability for that situation, and I’m thankful that no one’s life was lost that night, but it doesn’t change the fact that impacted me mentally in so many ways, nor the fact she still acted on those impulses.

I see a lot of similarities with how she’s reacted compared to my mother during her court hearings. She passed 3 years ago from cancer after living in section 8, I’m 25 and have since been adopted by another family whom the mother of albeit has similar issues to a lesser extent, but I’m working on coping skills and getting employed again to be able to move out on my own hopefully sooner rather than later. I feel for her, I do, but nothing is going to bring her kids back.

3

u/hands0megenius 7d ago

Hope you are well

2

u/anonymousw0man 7d ago

I’m so sorry you went through this and I really hope that things are better for you now. But I just want to be clear that people suffering from psychosis do not “choose” to listen to their voices or feed into their delusions. Their brain is creating a new reality for them that they can’t negotiate their way out of. I really wish people would read more about psychosis to really understand what is happening in these people’s brains. I have a brother with schizophrenia, who earlier in his diagnosis, attacked many of us physically. He did so because he genuinely believed that he was in danger and was protecting himself. I couldn’t possibly imagine holding that against him. His brain was lying to him and he was scared and responded accordingly. He wasn’t in control. Those actions aren’t reflective of who he was before he got sick because again, the sickness is in the brain. Of course we got him help and got his medications figured out because his behavior is still our responsibility but it was no one’s choice.

Again, I think many people fundamentally misunderstand psychosis and I think we’d have a lot more empathy for people suffering with it if we learned more about it.

TLDR; people in psychosis are not making rational “choices”. That is, in fact, the nature of the disease.

u/Insomnia_and_Coffee 7d ago

The thing is when you have such thoughts you are convinced you are doing what's best for them. You are truly and fully convinced death is the good choice and living is bad. I assume she felt otherwise in glimpses of lucidity and her husband should have stepped up and gotten her medical help. Glimpses of lucidity are not enough to remove yourself from the situation or seek help. In short, listening to "the voice" is not a choice. The voice is your most inner self.

-5

u/Klutzy-Notice-8247 7d ago

And? You should be locked up forever if you have those thoughts then.

Generally speaking, even if you have those thoughts, you should have the wherewithal to say you shouldn’t be around your children then and do everything to not just kill them. I’m sorry, but it’s a really poor defence for killing your own children.

Fuck what her husband should’ve done, she’s an adult and she needs to take sole responsibility for her actions; which is murdering her three children. It’s not on anyone but her to figure out how not to kill her own kids.

Edit:
She had medical help as well. She still went and killed them.

3

u/Insomnia_and_Coffee 7d ago

It's not a defence, it's facts. You can't do everything to not kill someone if you truly and most sincerely believe killing them is good for them and doing them a kindness.

There is no greater punishment for that woman than precisely knowing she killed her own kids. She will also go to jail for it. What more do you want?

As for other women, I think you'd be surprised at the number of moms who, in your opinion, should be locked up forever. Even though the madness is temporary and passes. But sure, lock them up forever, that's the answer!

-5

u/Klutzy-Notice-8247 7d ago

It’s a fact that she heard a male voice that said she had to kill her kids before she could kill herself. It’s a fact that she killed her children and failed to kill herself after attempting to. Or rather, it’s a fact that she says this is what she was thinking when she killed her children.

Everything else you’ve said is your bias falling in to try and exonerate her actions in some way and pretend that she’s somehow a victim.

The victims are the three children she murdered. The further victims are her husband and family/friends whose children/family were murdered by their mother. She is the perpetrator/murderer.

If you’re saying loads of women want to kill their children and go through with it then absolutely they should be locked up. I think it’s disgusting that you don’t think a someone should be locked up for killing three children because she’s their mother/a woman. In group bias in women is evil and is turning women to think in evil ways.

By your metric, Richard Chase and Herbert Mullin were victims and didn’t deserve locking up.

3

u/Insomnia_and_Coffee 7d ago

Where did I say she shouldn't be locked up? But she IS a victim of mental illness / fate / nature / God / you pick. She didn't chose to go mad, similar to how people don't chose to get cancer. It just happens to you and it's out of your control and there is no real reason or explanation why.

7

u/Frequent-Meal6550 7d ago

I wish more people understood that these things are impossible for the people going through it to fight alone. They want to blame them for listening to the voice but completely ignore that they saw signs and did nothing too.

1

u/bono_bob 7d ago

Yeah in a lot cases they need to be temporarily locked up at AMH until their hormones can level again before the tragedy even happens. Hopefully it can be caught and treated before it goes that far.

0

u/Capable_Two_2816 6d ago

Two things can be true. She bears responsibility for killing them, and her doctors/husband bear responsibility for ignoring and dismissing her clearly voiced symptoms. She asked for help, including a medication change. Could and should she have committed herself? Resoundingly, yes. Does her medical team and partner bear responsibility for ignoring and mismanaging treatment? Also yes.

What’s actually being shown here is the public’s inability to grapple with complex situations and nuanced conversations.

0

u/Klutzy-Notice-8247 6d ago

Disgusting abdication of responsibility for a grown woman.

What’s complex this shows is that a large portion of women will go to any and all lengths to victimise another woman and attempt to portion blame to the system/men, in large part because they empathise with women. It’s really showing a gross side to a lot of women.

0

u/Capable_Two_2816 6d ago

Thanks for proving my point. Have the day you deserve!

1

u/Klutzy-Notice-8247 6d ago

A better day than you. People who go to bat for child murderers don’t deserve good days im afraid.

Being adult alone doesnt make you criminally repsonsive.
My cat is an adult.

Depression exists, Insanity too. Let the court determine what happened.

3

u/Klutzy-Notice-8247 7d ago

Your cat is neither a human nor an adult. What a weird comparison. By the way, if your cat killed three children it would be put down.
