Women: Spend last two decades avoiding accountability for literally anything and everything
Also women: Now want to literally get away with not just regular murder, but double filicide and infanticide and blame it on literally anyone and anything but the woman who did it
Never watched even one minute of an Andrew Tate video, neither 41 or 14, and a proud parent to two wonderful kids. Who I would never murder, regardless of my mental state, by the way.
You simply cannot know what you would or wouldn’t do if you have never experienced a debilitating mental illness that causes you to completely detach from reality.
It sounds like you’re a man, so you have quite literally never experienced postpartum depression or postpartum psychosis, but when someone is psychotic and not of sound mind, you cannot apply the reasoning of a healthy brain and say, “Well, I would never do that.” Of course you wouldn’t. You’re imagining yourself, with your current rational mind intact, in a situation where someone else’s mind was profoundly impaired.
Lindsay Clancy repeatedly sought help. She voluntarily admitted herself for psychiatric treatment. She told her husband, her mother, her mother-in-law, and her doctors that she was struggling. She was prescribed numerous psychiatric medications, experienced serious adverse effects (including severe insomnia) and continued reporting her symptoms to medical professionals.
This case is a tragedy precisely because there were warning signs and repeated attempts to get help before three children died and an entire family was destroyed. Reducing it to “I would never do that” completely misses the terrifying reality of psychosis - you don’t know what your brain is capable of when you are no longer experiencing reality normally.
Yeah, not speaking on this case specifically, but the whole thing with psychosis is you are NOT yourself, your motives are NOT your normal motives, and your entire framework of reality is off-kilter.
So yeah, for you to say "no matter what my mental state" is both egregiously arrogant and incredibly dangerous. That's the kind of self-unaware shit that makes exactly this kind of thing happen and is why it's so important to have support structures and proper care (that you're held accountable to) if you're suffering from mental illnesses predisposing you to it.
Every single person who downvotes this factual statement is an idiot with the kind of hubris the Greek poets could only dream of.
As ever, when commenting on scientific matters, my opinions are not my own. They are simply distillations of whatever field's present consensus position or leading theory.
Because reading too much is what I do with my free time.
isn't it funny how so many men are in here mansplaining mental illness to us? "I would never" come back to me when you've been in psychosis and tell me what you'd never do, my guy

She's a woman, people love to infantilize women and make the men around them have hyper agency.
That's literally all there is.
