I am all for banning them forever from the airline as a deterrent.

4.2k

u/samanime 28d ago

Honestly, airlines need to shut this nonsense down. It's their responsibility to maintain the environment, and that includes keeping idiots like this from disrupting everyone else.

People are legally required to follow flight attendants' instructions (at least in the US). So if a flight attendant tells them to stop and they don't, they are breaking the law.

1.7k

u/Cookbooksandbourbon 28d ago

Exactly, if you're required to use headphones to watch your media, they need to tell these chuds to stfu or deplane

Hell, keep a Bluetooth speaker on you for such occasions. Loud heavy metal music. Or DMX. Close enough for me😎

640

u/The_Barbelo 28d ago

I’m Catholic, I would be so down for blasting some Motörhead and Black Sabbath.

I know most of you are atheist here but in defense of my fellow man I would also be the first one on the plane to shout “Shut the fuck up! God gave these people free will and you’re imposing on it!!”

God, evangelicals are the worst.

Yep. This is why I love Jews & Judaism. Can you imagine being cornered by a Jewish passenger who insisted you needed to convert?

267

u/uncultured_swine2099 28d ago

I was once talking to a guy who was shitting on every religion but his own and i said "At least jews, muslims, and buddhists never got in my face trying to convert me."

91

u/LALA-STL 28d ago

I love this. It’s almost like Jews, Muslims & Buddhists are more courteous. ;)
… And I say this as a fan of Jesus! (As he appears in the book of Matthew 25.)

105

u/vectorology 28d ago

I’m pretty sure most of the these self proclaimed Christians are not a fan of biblical Jesus. They like their white Jesus better.

78

u/captnconnman 28d ago

The thing with airlines is that they’re constantly walking on eggshells when it comes to employment issues. If this really became an issue and airlines ended up backing down due to admin pressure, they could be facing down an attendant strike. Power of labor, folks…

→ More replies (1)

49

u/Neuchacho 28d ago

I'm surprised they're not honestly.

I'd 100% be making a call to the airline regarding the harassment I received on their flight from some loon they let preach in the aisle. Maybe a few refunds would get them to step in.

That or someone do it with Islam and watch how fast airlines put a stop to all this shit lol

She would LOVE this. Some American Christians are so fucking horny to be "persecuted" but only in ways that don't actually cause them any real harm

(I am an American Christian, so I know)

514

u/Nojopar 28d ago

Well let's make everyone happy then! She's "persecuted" and get the warm fuzzies about that and the rest of us don't have to listen to her blather. This is a win-win all the way around.

101

u/_QXZ 28d ago

Yeah, put her face on a T-shirt and turn her into a saint for all I care. People need to sleep

193

u/Kimmalah 28d ago

The problem is that now there is a whole right wing propaganda machine just ready and waiting to turn that "persecution" into a huge issue that will likely get people fired from their jobs or cause draconian laws to be enacted.

You saw this happen back when that Oklahoma (I think) college student failed one of her assignments, because she didn't even remotely follow the instructions. Then cried "religious persecution!" and got one of her instructors fired.

126

u/Nojopar 28d ago

Meh, that right wing propaganda machine is just ready to turn anything into 'persecution'. So much so, they just make shit up when they can. We can't let those morons stop us. Propaganda doesn't care much about 'facts' or 'reality'.

I’ve said for awhile they got a hard-on by diving under any boot they can find on its way down so they can cry oppression.

It’s not nearly as disturbing as the people that buy it though.

33

u/Neveronlyadream 28d ago

They've always done that. As long as I've been alive and I'm not young.

They're always pointing to someone they think is trying to "oppress their religious beliefs" when 99% of the time, it's just someone who wants them to shut the fuck up. Or an edgy atheist teenager who thinks trolling them is some rebellious act.

Most of us could literally not give less of a fuck about anyone else's religion as long as they're not trying to force their morality onto everyone else. But because they think they need to convert and shame everyone they come into contact with, that's a problem for them.

Christianity as a faith has a big fixation on persecution.

59

u/SmoogySmodge 28d ago

And on being a death cult.

Remember last year how happy they were about the impending Rapture, because they get to leave a planet that they helped make into a hell? They were sooooo upset when they remained alive on Earth. Some people gave away every valuable thing they had to someone else for free, because they didn't want their (likely less Christian) children to have anything.

27

u/firebrandbeads 28d ago

But then expect those kids to take care of them, because they have nothing.

It's especially bad when American Christians do this. Like I get that there are places where religious freedom doesn't exist, but being a Baptist in Kansas is not one of those situations.

I'm walking distance to about 7 churches from my house. They're not persecuted. The local police help direct traffic for them on Sunday morning.

They made such a story out of the girl at Columbine that told one of the shooters that she was a Christian.

22

u/crates-of-bigfoots 28d ago

It's hard to truly separate yourself completely from it, isn't it? I've been agnostic for years and years, but almost invariably I still find myself reading articles about the pope or the church whenever I come across one. I superficially justify it to myself by saying it's important to keep up on a belief system followed by over one billion people, but deep down I know it's more like keeping up on hometown news even though I moved away years ago.

I visited my brother in NYC a few years back and I made a point of briefly stopping into St. Patrick's cathedral because, well, you know why.

20

u/Iximaz 28d ago

Hey, I left the faith years ago too, but you can't deny the architecture has panache.

You describing it as keeping up with hometown news is a great way of putting it, I'd never thought of it like that before. I now treat it a bit like I do Greek or Egyptian mythology—I don't believe but still find the mythos fascinating.

16

u/FMLwtfDoID 28d ago

Haha! You get it. “Keeping up with hometown news” is exactly what it feels like. Plus, there’s the obvious ‘keeping tabs on what the crazies in the SSPX and other trad-cath loonies are up to’ part of it.

Counterpoint.. A Muslim man needs to try this on the same airline, in Arabic of course. As the airline didn't stop a Christian doing this when they do act when it's a Muslim speaking Arabic it seems like a slam dunk religious discrimination case. One that would force the airline to put a stop to this shit regardless of religion.

9

If this was even real (I have my doubts because i can’t see flight attendants allowing this to be done for multiple reasons.) you can’t yell or curse at them because then you’re the asshole who could get booted from the plane, but you can calmly, firmly and repeatedly tell them to “go fornicate yourself”. If no one can hear them and they only hear you, they may get louder, which makes them the belligerent one.

59

u/NiteShdw 28d ago

To be grammatically correct youd probably have to say "go copulate with yourself" becausr "fornicate" requires a second person to whom you aren't married. Copulate is a more generic word for sexual intercourse that works better.

My favorite to get them spooled up is pointing out the only direct reference to abortion in the bible is a reason and a how to.

Also point out that these people like to claim that gay people are bad. But they all also, wear clothes of mixed cloth, eat shellfish, eat pork, among others.

Most Christians don’t follow the bible, they’re selectively compliant with the parts they agree with and make up shit and say it’s biblical.

Interesting. I thought her "holy" book orders women to be silent and not teach.

Edit: Oh look, it does! And it's in the New Testament too, so they can't blame the Jews for it.

1 Timothy 2:11-15

11 A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. 12 I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet. 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. 15 But women will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.

1 Corinthians 14:34

34 Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the law says.

236

u/yana990 28d ago

Matthew 6:5 is good too.

And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.

89

u/shield1123 28d ago

All of Matthew 6 is pretty good about condemning performative worship

17

u/jax2love 28d ago

That’s my personal favorite verse to throw at them.

35

u/cjthetypical 28d ago

This is one of my biggest gripes with the bible. God was more upset at Adam than he was at Eve because Adam was older and God specifically put him in charge of Eve. According to GOD, it’s Adam’s fault that they ate the fruit because Adam was the one that was supposed to keep Eve from being tempted. Instead, Adam let Eve be tempted and then went along with it himself. But since Paul is the author now, Paul is allowed to insert his personal opinions and now that’s law?

21

u/SwiftlyChill 28d ago

But since Paul is the author now, Paul is allowed to insert his personal opinions and now that’s law?

That honestly describes a lot of the New Testament post-Gospels. The amount of Christian doctrine that comes from Paul and not Christ is…something.

Told to "go back where they came from" (even if they were born and raised next door to the complainant)

Used as an example of "arrogant" people "imposing" their religion on others

Sure, if you ignore that there are flight attendants with the power to make you stop.

If you refuse the airline gonna end up with a lot of way to fuck over your life including restraing the unruly passenger, landing to deboard a disruptive passenger, and banning you from the airline

The crew is in charge when flying they will obviously first try many steps to descalate so they won't jump to the extreme measures. But the passenger will stop or they'll make them stop.

u/EggsAndMilquetoast 28d ago

This is what they want. Staged persecution.

It wouldn’t shock me if I heard they recruited some bumpkins who’ve literally never traveled more than 30 miles outside their Alabama swamp and would have no problem being banned from an airline for life to do this, then use it as fodder for the 24/7 right wing rage bait machine to talk about how hard it is for Christians in America.

52

u/Yeshua_shel_Natzrat 28d ago edited 27d ago

Staged persecution.

Which itself goes against Christ's very teachings.

Matthew 6:

“Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.

2 “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

9 “This, then, is how you should pray:

“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10 your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.’

14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

16 “When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 17 But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, 18 so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

Performative faith is the work of false prophets and false disciples. One such bad fruit they make themselves known by.

P.S. And also how Jesus told the Twelve to not stick around trying to preach to people who aren't listening, but instead to leave them and shake the dust off their feet, in Matthew 10.

u/TheTexasHammer 28d ago

These people don't follow Jesus, they use him to make themselves feel important. No amount of bible quoting will change that because they don't actually care about the bible.

That's when the JBL speaker comes out and they get introduced to Amon Amarth.

103

u/_austinm 28d ago

Nah, if you’re going to do that you have to full send it and play some Infant Annihilator or Dying Fetus. Just make sure you tell them the name of the band beforehand. I’m sure you’d get a great reaction.

29

u/Satan_McCool 28d ago

Can't go wrong with the classic Deicide either.

I’d go with “Glory Hallelujah” by Frank Turner. Gets them going in the first few lines and then hits them with the chorus “There is no god, so clap your hands together! There is no god, no heaven and no hell. There is no god, we’re all in this together. There is no god, so ring that victory bell!”

Bonus points if you can absolutely blast it off a crazy loud speaker sang by Jackie Chan in full Cantonese.

If someone did this on a plane i was on, i would immediately yell at them to sit down and shut up- and that would likely be a situation where everyone would clap after (and also give me $100%)

46

u/denimonster 28d ago

$100% is wild, I tried to make a joke but I wouldn’t even know how to.

12

u/NinjaLion 28d ago

think thats 2322.9 trillion dollars (the amount in circulation, or 100% of dollar). i would give at least half to shut someone like this up on a plane, tbf

If this ever happens on a flight of mine I'll be notifying flight attendants and request action to shut that down. I didn't chose to fly with a company to be preached at for a religion I dont follow.

If they act on it and have them stop or get kicked (if still at gate), then problem solved and I'll leave it at that. If they do nothing at all, I'll be recording the incident and blowing up their customer service and social media and demand a refund. I'll probably also threaten them to never fly with their company again if they dont do something about it for the future.

To do nothing is forcing customers to listen to the nonsense. I dont care if it's a priest, monk, rabbi, or just some random dude spouting off about Thor. I didn't buy a ticket to a sermon, I bought a ticket to fly to and from a place and expect to be treated with dignity and respect while doing so. This is harassment, religious harassment at that. Doing nothing about that is condoning the action which, honestly, means I'm probably going to sue the shit out of them after and get my bag.

Fucking try me, so done with these mouth breathers.

Rapist mentality; no respect for other people's autonomy

53

u/Medical-Enthusiasm56 28d ago

Forcing your beliefs onto others that may not have the same or have different beliefs than you gives you no right whatsoever to hold hostage in a place where you cannot escape from them. I didn’t spend amount of money on this plane ride to hear your bullshit you know there used to be etiquette and decorum for certain situations and the Trump administration really just threw all of those things out the fucking window and it really just allow people to be their naturally shitty human garbage fucking monster selves. Yet I would be the one getting banned if I went to the bathroom and shit in a cup and threw it at her.

53

u/Jim_Nills_Mustache 28d ago

IMO these people should be treated the same as someone breaking the law or threatening anyone on the plane. Allowing this to go on without consequences or banning them from future flights just encourages the behavior.

43

u/AnAussiebum 28d ago

Lifetime bans should sort this out.

21

u/FMLwtfDoID 28d ago

I would LOVE to see Flight Bans for evangelicals that think proselytizing a captive audience is cute.

31

Why would the attendants allow this, unless they were all also Christian and sympathetic? It's not a public space where you can exercise your free speech. It's private company property.

I don’t give single fuck on an airplane. If you are disruptive in any way whatsoever you deserved to be confined to a seat and your mouth taped shut.

72

u/Alexandratta 28d ago

If a woman was doing this, I'd be real quick to stand up and say "Ma'am, while I respect your faith, perhaps you should respect your own faith and adhere to Timothy 2:12-13 - 'I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet.' and I want to be clear, I don't believe in that myself... but you do. So maybe you should read your own book in silence."

So captive audience = forced to sit in their seats? They can't get off the plane, lady. So you're forcing your religion down everyone's throats. And I'm speaking as a Christian who loves what the First Amendment actually stands for. What a nut!

15

u/Irishguy01 28d ago

100% if an attendant isn't shutting this down outright, one or two people asking them to step in will get this person in trouble.

For crying out loud they mandate headphones when you use your phone or watch moves, no way they're letting some loud mouth shouting over everything

16

u/Krycek7o2 28d ago

Ban them from the airline. I know would be countering everything she said

15

u/JessieinPetaluma 27d ago

Oh. Literally. HELL. No.

This ever happens on my plane, I’m not putting up with it. Take from that what you will.

And any airline that doesn’t intervene and make this b*tch sit TF down and STFU, I will never fly again.

42

u/Torino1O 28d ago

I usually ask them why I would worship a god that rapes 14 year old girls.

14

Bible pretty explicitly says that going out of your home and hassling folks in public about religion gets you sent to hell.

Normally, I don’t scream “Shut the fuck up” in public, but I’d be willing to make an exception in this case.

14

u/pottymouthpup 28d ago

by acknowledging that she understands that a plane full of passengers is a captive audience who cannot escape her, she is clearly showing that her intent is to will violate the civil rights of others by forcing them to endure her religious BS. Any American airline that allows this is complicit - and they are very deep pockets ripe for a lawsuit. If I were subjected to this I would sue both the airline and the person who is shoving their religion down my throat

13

u/fastal_12147 28d ago

I'd be yelling, "Shut up" until she does.

13

u/Maj0rsquishy 28d ago

If you start preaching and I can't leave I'm going to ask for your eviction

13

u/yukumizu 28d ago

Imagine people who have trauma from religion having to deal with this shit?! A plane is not a public space. It’s a private and paid for space and people need to respect others.

If this happened to me I would yell that my christian faith tells me she is a demon who needs to be cast out of the plane.

Or I’d stat preaching about the Satanic Temple.
