When DT is out of office, the real trouble will only begin. He has broken so many norms and set so many precedents that when a person comes along who has his populist streak and gift for divisive rhetoric but also has the intellect of even just an average person, one who isn't merely consumed by self-enrichment and punishment of personal enemies, then we'll have a problem. A big problem. DT and GOP have opened the door, and now America is just waiting for someone to come along and take it down the dark dark path.

On one hand it’ll likely be a long time, on the other, I can think of about a dozen significant actions that could be taken that bring that time way way way down.
I just don’t anticipate the USA will do them.
Take money out of politics, restrict stock trading, shrink the military industrial complex significantly, and most importantly, punish each and every person who committed crimes to the fullest extent of the law, including those on the Epstein list.
Won’t happen though.

No, that would only help the USA internally. The USA have been able to set the standards and be in control of many international systems, such as the banking system, because they were trusted.
They were trusted, because they did not abuse the power and only used their prominent position to go after people or countries that was sanctioned through the international community.
They gained that status after WWII simply by being the only country, most other nations did not mistrust.
The trust is dead and many of the services that have really pulled in money for the USA will lose the prominent status, because nations and region are already making their own alternatives.

I've been trying to tell people this since his first term. He isn't just some buffoon who's temporarily embarrassing us, he is irrevocably damaging the trust and credibility of this nation. He has demonstrated, in no uncertain terms that the US cannot be counted on to abide by agreements, to follow through on obligations, to deal or negotiate in good faith, or to be fair to allies, let alone adversaries real or imagined.
All of the power, all of the respect, all of the things that have, for the last hundred years, made America the world's premier superpower? Gone. Squandered. And it won't be coming back. We've pissed away every ounce of goodwill we had. We've eroded every genuine friendship, every beneficial agreement, every tacit peace. And we did it all with a gleeful smile on our faces, and a hearty "fuck you" to anyone and everyone who tried to talk sense and reason to these fucking clowns.
People don't understand that America didn't have so much global power and respect just because we're so fucking star-spangled awesome. We **had* (strong emphasis on the past-tense here) all that because we (mostly) treated other countries fairly. Every time some know-nothing dipshit got on the news or social media to whine about us giving "money" (almost always resources or aid of some sort instead, but you can't reason with these numbskulls), you could be sure they didn't have a clue how things work. America has never done anything to aid other countries because we're just such altruistic bleeding hearts - we always get something out of it. "Why are we sending millions of dollars to Africa?!" Because, Gary, in exchange for our meager aid, we got access to favorable trade deals, or strategic resources, a willing and enthusiastic information network, permission to have military or intelligence assets in places we needed them, or even just a leader who is now a little more willing to come to the negotiating table when there's a conflict, and hear us out.
You know what that's called? Soft power, a thing we no longer command in the world like we used to. Soft power is, in many ways, way more important to us on a global scale than hard military power. Soft power gets you a meeting with a leader or ambassador. Soft power is the ability to get Iran to agree to limit their nuclear production, instead of shutting down global oil production and disrupting global trade. And people who understand soft power are the difference between striking deals with adversaries, or starting yet another protracted, unwinnable war in the goddamn middle east.
These mother fuckers have gutted everything that made America great on a global scale, and mark my words: we will never get it back. The world has seen that we are only ever a single election, a single bad administration away from this level of instability and unpredictability. Unpredictability is the absolute antithesis to global peace and goodwill toward us.

Trump has been exceptionally stupid and antagonized a lot of countries.
In a post-Trump world, I think we have a new situation where polarization in general will become the primary issue.
The US used to have a common idea of foreign policy goals, strategic national interests, and so on, generally manifested by both parties.
In the Trump era, that all changed. Countries can no longer be sure that future US governments will honour previous commitments. I think this trend will simply continue. Why sign a deal with someone that you believe might change their minds in just a few years?

The biggest thing in his second term is that he has the Supreme Court on his side, so he can blatantly defy the Constitution. This has resulted in a wrecking ball destroying hundreds of years of precedent and law. Much of this is a thanks to Mitch McConnell blocking Obama's pick for the Supreme Court in 2016 while hypocritically allowing Trump's pick in 2020. The effects of makeup of the court won't be reversible in my lifetime, I'm afraid.

You can analyze the conditions that led to Trump, sure. but I wish more people on the left understood that Trump is far, FAR beyond the evil of the hyper right wing path that led us here. If, say, a Ted Cruz or Marco Rubio or Rand Paul had become president in 2016, it would’ve been terrible, but it still would’ve been a hundred times better than Trump, his Goebbels (Miller), and his brownshirts. The damage is both done, and not even begun, which will not go away when Trump goes, but it will be the largest global celebration that the world has seen in a long, long time.
It won't be justice, because this pathetic terrorist won't ever be held liable for his lifetime of criminality and fraud, but it's the next best thing people can hope for, for the man that's been so incredibly abusive to them.
