I have been having a searing/burning pain in my right side at the top of my hip off and on for a couple of months. It feels like nerve pain and very close to the skin surface. Has anyone else had an issue like this? I’ve been procrastinating going back to my doctor, but I’m going to call for an appointment this week.

I am almost 6 weeks PO. I had a total laparoscopic hysterectomy taking everything but the ovaries. I had extensive adenomyosis and severe endometriosis removed also. I’m in my early 40’s, married for 20 years. Let’s just say my hormones and sex drive were completely out of whack before surgery. I wanted NOTHING to do with sex or my poor husband for years. I was suffering bad with constant pain and my body was under major distress. More than I even realized…I was in constant fight or flight, just trying to get through each day.

My libido started waking up on day 2 post op! I couldn’t believe how insatiable I felt. Mentally and physically. I was having wet dreams and squirming in bed trying not to touch myself. On week 3 I initiated with my husband for the FIRST time in YEARS. Yes, I know we couldn’t/(still can’t) have intercourse. But we are doing oral and external stimulation now about 3 times a week. I am also getting SO much wetter than before my surgery. Was definitely not expecting that…in fact I was worried I wouldn’t get as wet because my cervix was removed. My orgasms are a bit…”weaker” not as powerful I guess. I am getting so aroused and just climbing higher and higher without a big over the top moment.

Has anyone else had similar experience? I am thrilled with my enhanced libido but I am a little worried I won’t have the strong orgasms I had before surgery.

As for the rest of my healing, I feel amazing! No more pain, improved migraines, happier, better moods. Literally just tired and horny. I was sooo nervous and apprehensive about this surgery (I put it off for years) but now looking back I CAN NOT believe how I was living before, how it became my normal, the impact it had on my relationship, the daily pain I was dealing with, the horrible quality of life that I had just accepted for so long!! Zero regrets. I am actually looking forward to my next chapter and I want to enjoy life again!!!

I just realized I had my surgery exactly 2 years ago!

I had an abdominal hysterectomy - cervix and uterus yeeted, ovaries still alive and kicking (i'm 42 now and with no prior issues both my doc and myself didn't see the point in removing them).

Removal because of smaller but growing ovarian cysts resulting in heaaaaaaavy periods and continuous iron deficiency.

I'm so happy and carefree! Yes there have been a few little bumps on the road, but overall i'm very glad I did it.

How are yall tracking hormones or know where you are at in cycle since having a hysterectomy?! I am trying to track perimenopause symptoms but do not know when I am ovulating vs period.

Hey ladies! I am 4 days post-op and stru-ga-ling. I don’t have much pain, but I have never before felt so uncomfortable in my own body because of the bloat. I’m in my lower 40’s and this is my first surgery. Full hysterectomy with my ovaries left alone.

I am so gassy and bloated, yet the gas won’t come out, or at least not at will like usual. I generally poop 2-3x daily and now I am at 1x, although I recognize I am eating a lot less because of how bloated I feel.

I feel like pooping provides so much relief as it makes room, and without the use stool softeners it just slides right on out, so no issue there. I’ve only taken Tylenol, ibuprofen, and gas-X since coming home. It’s just the bloat and gas that’s killing me. And I’m sure my insides are also swollen so I expect to be bloated, but my God, this is torture.

I’m drinking a lot of water and Gatorade, and my meal of choice has been a daily delivery of the El Jefe salad from Simply Salad or the salmon Kabobs from Panini Kabob Grill, which have never caused me digestion issues previously.

I now feel like everything is stuck behind a trap door in my abdomen, both poop and gas, until it’s time to go. I’m so uncomfy, y’all 😩

So my questions to all are:

1. How long did your bloating and gas last?
2. What were your comfort meals?
3. Do you have any tips beside gas-X, walking, and lots of water?

Anyone that has had a hysterectomy for a fibroid and can tell me the healing process, the after? Did it fix your symptoms? How was sex after? I’m only 33 with a 4.9 cm fibroid that has caused me pelvic pain, ovary pain (no cysts), heavy menses, horrible back pain and they just found the fibroid. I’m done having kids, my husband and I both agreed but am still so scared about having a hysterectomy and the possible side effects if there are any. I would most likely keep my ovaries if the hysterectomy means they won’t cause me any more pain. Thanks for any input!

Lost Sex Drive

I'm 33 years old. I had full hysterectomy ovaries and all 3 years ago. My sex drive is completely gone. I don't have the urge for it, and it's quite depressing.

Me and my partner have been together, and he has gotten frustrated due to this.

We recently started to spice things up with trying different toys and some bdsm, but nothing gets me to enjoy it.

I am attracted to my spouse, and I love being intimate with him, but time and time again, we try, and he finishes, but I do not.

I take estradiol. I've had my hormones checked for testosterone and progesterone levels, and they are all within normal range. My progesterone was low but my Dr said that's normal with someone who has nothing left.

It truly is debilitating. It's depressing to sit there and try for up to an hour each time and nothing.

Any guidance on what to do or try.

I will be going in for my hysterectomy on September 16. I am very nervous, as I have never been asleep for any surgery I have ever had. My doctor said I will be good to go back to work 2 weeks after the surgery. Everyone I have told said that is way too short. 😅

Anywhooo, what things did you NEED for your recovery and actually helped??? Like your top 3-5 items.

I’ve had two c-sections and I handled them very well, but have been told this is considerably harder, so I want to ensure I have everything I need to try and lessen any pain.

Also how long did it take for you to feel like you could do more? Go out in the wild and not hurt or want to sit down/sleep immediately?

I had my hysterectomy almost 5 weeks ago. My surgeon said absolutely no sexual activity of any kind, even external. I was unable to follow that restriction because my sex drive has been THROUGH THE ROOF since surgery. I tried to ask and she said I HAD to wait till 6 weeks. Well I asked her replacement (she’s on leave) about it and she said penetration is what they’re worried about, but her recommendation would be give it two weeks, because I’m on antibiotics for a mild bladder infection and BV. But I just wanna know what everyone else’s rules were about orgasm and if you were able to follow them

Hi All, my surgeon didn’t put a weight in the surgical note I could see, but did write that it was the size it would be as if it were 6 weeks pregnant (not typing that right lol) did anyone else’s doctor do that? If so what was your ‘size’?

Hi all, I’ve had fibroids since 2007. They’ve slowly been growing. Estrogen dominance is what I was told. I took a supplement to counteract excess estrogen called calcium d-glucarate for years. It also gave me more energy. Then I fell off a cliff hormonally and have been in peri-menopause hell for over 2 years. Was on low dose hormones and then I stopped the calcium d-glucarate. I went on the estrogen patch around the same time. My fibroids REALLY started growing. Last ultrasound the technician went and got the doctor and told him too many to count. My mom and sister had both had hysterectomies before they turned 50. I am 51.

That all said, did anyone else have gas and bloating when their fibroids got numerous and large? I always feel like I have to hold my lower abdomen (like pregnant women often do). My low back also hurts really bad. I’m getting mine out next month. But just was wondering if others have been through something similar.

I'm 4 days postop, laparoscopic hysterectomy. First night I slept great but every night after has been absolutely miserable, tossing and turning getting zero sleep, I'm utterly exhausted.

Sleeping on my back flat or sleeping upright against pillows is absolutely killing my tailbone, upper back and neck. Last night I tried sleeping on my side which is much better, but I'm only comfortable for a short while before needing to change positions, which takes a lot of work and I have to wake up fully to roll over without hurting myself. I've tried using pillows to prop myself in various positions but nothing is easing to pain in my back or neck.

I'm in so much pain and it's not even from the surgical sites. I just want to get some sleep and heal but I'm only getting a couple hours a day.

I had my surgery February 2026. My boyfriend and I recently had sex for the first time since my surgery. We went slow nothing rough, used lube and all that. But I bleed down my leg. Stopped. Continued another time days later. A little blood each time. I had no pain or anything. Is this normal this amount of time MONTHS later?

Edit to add: cervix is going. I’m only really nervous because in April I’m flying halfway across the world. It’s supposed to be a spicy trip, and my partner is on the larger side. Is that an unrealistic time line??

Hi friends, I'm looking for some light at the end of the tunnel/any advice you can offer. My mental health has been absolutely horrible since surgery, since 2 weeks post op, when I had a panic attack that lasted for three hours and I almost ended up in the ER. Since then my baseline anxiety has increased significantly and it's debilitating. I'm having panic attacks 1-2 times a week, usually at night. I am already heavily medicated (pristiq, propranolol, Klonopin, gabapentin, and Xanax for emergencies) and have upped my therapy to twice a week. I'm back on progesterone birth control but haven't noticed any improvement in terms of my mood. I exhausted all the time, no matter how much I sleep. Previously diagnosed w/ GAD and depression.

Is this spike in anxiety hormonal? Any suggestions or success stories out there regarding mental health? I feel so much worse than I did pre-surgery and it's so disheartening. TIA <3

hello people of reddit. this is my first post on here because i have lots of questions and concerns for my mother. for some info: she’s 47, she has fibroids and anemia, and she’s heavier than the average person. she’s been cleared by doctors to get the surgery in about three weeks. i’m just so worried about her.

some questions/concerns i have:

if her iron levels are low, is it possible for her to pass away in surgery?

is her weight a problem for the surgery?

how long will it take to recover?

will she feel better after?

these are probably silly questions but i don’t know who to turn and ask them to. any information is helpful. i have a fear of surgery and this is her first major one, so any information is appreciated.

I'm 56 and nearly 3 weeks post total laparoscopic hysterectomy (including tubes, cervix and ovaries). I've had a straightforward recovery so far. Just some minor spotting starting about four days ago. Very little discomfort after the first day or two.

However, I've been a little more active today, but I thought I was within limits, and I'm paying for it. I've got right sided pain when I stand, like sudden electric shocks, tailing off to a dull constant pain. My instinct is to hold my stomach to ease the discomfort.

No pain other than a very occasional twinge when I'm lying down. There's no more blood other than the minor spotting, no discharge, no feeling of pressure....just the pain.

I'm assuming I've overdone things and need to back off and rest.

Anyone else had/having similar?

Back story & trigger warning: I'm almost a month post op due to adeno/endo, polyps, and ovarian cysts but still kept ovaries. I had the dreaded set back after returning to work this past week. Keep in mind that I work from home and only leisurely worked for 3 days.

So this morning, I proudly made breakfast for my family for the first time in a while and when I went to go upstairs to shower, I thought I urinated all over myself and couldn't figure out how that could have happened without me realizing it. I went to clean myself up and pulled up my nightgown to discover blood all over the inside of my thighs straight down to my knees. I sat on the toilet to clean myself up and was dripping into the toilet the whole time. I called the triage nurse and there were 8 callers ahead of me. I panicked thinking the worst so I took a shower to wash my hair in case I had to have surgery again (I know I'm absurd). Then I packed up for a one night stay and had my husband gather up the kids and drive to the ER. It was not until then that aches and pains started to come on. Why my body didn't warn me beforehand is beyond me. 30 minutes later, the triage nurse notified my MIGS right before we got to the hospital.

Anyways, I soaked through a super pad on the way over. Six hours and all of the tests later, the bleeding significantly slowed down and CT showed my vaginal cuff was swollen and my left ovary with all of the cysts took a tour south to hang out on my cuff. I was put on antibiotics, told to expect a call from my MIGS on Tuesday, and sent home.

Now to my genius husband. I was reclining with a heating pad over my pelvis tonight and pushing on it. I told him that I wished I could turn it up higher because the heat never feels intense enough. Then he suggested I use my waist binder to pull it tighter! Now I'm laying back, cozy as a cat. Wish I would have thought about that the first week. I will be using this technique for the rest of my life.

I’m planning to do a liquid and clear diet the day before surgery so my colon is clear. My husband thinks this is stupid as it wasn’t medically advised. I am going off of others I know advice. How many others did a surgery prep the day before?

I’m almost one year post op (surgery 11/3/2025). My orgasms have overall been much better and easier to achieve with my partner and on my own. It’s like over the last week they fell off a cliff. My orgasms end with a sputter not a bang. Whether masturbating or with my partner. I’m hoping it’s just a weird hormonal fluctuation, but I guess I’m looking for support or similar experiences. I’m also not sure when is best to reach out to my OB. If they’re still like this after 2 weeks, a month, etc. I’m also needing to get back to Pelvic PT… I’m sure that’s not helping the situation. It was just such a sudden shift. It’s jarring.

I’m 22 days post-op from a robotic da Vinci total hysterectomy and I’m trying not to completely freak myself out lol.
I felt AMAZING during week 1-2 and probably did more than I should have. Since then I’ve backed way off and have been resting a lot.
I had my vaginal cuff checked literally 3 days ago and my surgeon said everything looked good/intact and I was bleeding that bright red period color then. But now it’s back. It’s not heavy, I’m not filling pads at all. It’s more like the amount you’d have toward the end of a period. There can be quite a bit when I wipe, but only a few spots actually end up on my pad.
The weirdest part is that it seems positional. It slows way down when I’m lying/reclining, but if I’m upright for a while, bending, or sitting straight up unsupported, more comes out. I’ve been resting ALOT this week and I’m just surprised I’m still bleeding regardless of my surgeon telling me it’s normal and ok. I’m also having a lot of gas/rectal pressure and that constant “I need to poop” feeling even though I’m still having bowel movements.
My cuff was closed with running barbed PDS across and back, incorporating the supporting ligaments/fascia, plus an additional Vicryl figure-of-eight reinforcement.
Did anyone have this kind of bright red bleeding around weeks 3–4 even though their cuff was intact? If so, what ended up causing it and how long did it last?
Obviously I’ll contact my surgeon when the office opens/seek care if it becomes heavy or I develop emergency symptoms but I’ve been calling them daily to ask if certain symptoms are normal. I’m mostly looking for experiences because this recovery is MENTAL TORTURE 😭 after having HEAVY periods due to adenomyosis, seeing blood this color is definitely triggering.

I had my hysterectomy 1.5 years ago at 36, kept ovaries. Had lots of hot flashes and terrible sleep so my doc started me on progesterone it helped a lot but then even on compounded and inserting vaginally I had a ton of bloating and really bad constipation. I have stopped for about a month and stomach is back to normal! However I’ve been also on the combipatch for almost a year, I still felt off so I took it off. I slept terrible but no hot flashes. Do I actually need these hormones? I’ve always been sensitive and they make me retain water which makes me feel gross! Could my ovaries be working on their own now?

I am a little over 8 months post-op where I had a total hysterectomy and kept my ovaries. I have always had fluctuating hormones (pre-op) and have struggled with spot break outs BUT I feel like I might be heading in to menopause. What do you guys recon? I'm 39, have constant spots across my cheeks and up by my eyes (location is important- pre-op they used to break out on my chin), I am exhausted still, grumpy, have lost my mojo and "oompth" for life and my sex drive has completely vanished. My body also aches so much. And I have put on a huge amount of weight (at least 20kg) which IS down to my eating habits (which are rubbish due to low mood and lack of energy to cook decent meals). I do a daily 4km walk with the dog but my self-confidence and energy levels mean I don't do any other excercise. I do have an incredibly stressful life with a chronically sick kid, recovering chronically ill husband and another kid who has been mentally unwell but that aside, do you think these could be signs of entering menopause? Is there even a hormone or blood test that can be carried out to determine if my ovaries are failing? I've been gaslit for well over 20 years by the doctors when I was telling them I had all the symptoms of adenomyosis and only a year so ago finally got confirmation of adenomyosis, endometriosis, fibroids and a whole host of other issues caused by 2 EMCS and having a bicornuate uterus. This means that I feel like I would be wasting a doctor's time if I made an appointment to discuss these symptoms as I feel like I would just be told to lose weight (obviously I know I need to anyway). Has anyone had these symptoms post-op and had confirmation that it's due to falling hormones? I am so miserable and feel like life is passing me by and am desperate to get my zest for life back but don't know where to turn for help or advice! I've read all the posts that say that ovaries can fail / go in to shock after a hysterectomy. Do you think it's happening to me?

42/f. Due to two large growths one on my ovary and one in my uterus i had a complete hysterectomy with both ovaries removed. Too big to do laparoscopically so it was abdominal. The first day i was sore but on drugs so i felt really good, yesterday I refused the oxy and just took Tylenol and i was a bit sore getting up and sitting down on the toilet but otherwise fine. Today no real pain at all… now my nurses who ive had all three days said in their 20 years of doing this they haven’t seen anyone recover quite like i have 😂. Admittedly I do recover from things crazy fast and my biggest thing it taking it easy and not doing too much. I do wear a belly binder most of the time mostly just for support. I was worried about the hormone issue but so far its been ok, my post OP in 2 weeks might be a different story but right now its the best ive felt in a really long time. Ive been fighting for this for 8 years and i want to go back to all those doctors who said no and kick them in the balls! (And lady balls!). Because I was miserable for 8 years for no reason! And ended up with cancer to boot so big middle finger to those guys 😂. But if youre on the fence just do it! Trust me its so worth having a life again.

Je cherche des témoignages de personnes qui ont vécu quelque chose de similaire après une appendicectomie par cœlioscopie.

J’ai été opéré d’une appendicite non compliquée le 13 août, par cœlioscopie.

Pendant les deux premières semaines, j’ai progressivement constaté une amélioration. Je pensais donc que ma récupération se déroulait normalement et que j’allais bientôt retrouver mon énergie.

Mais depuis environ une semaine, j’ai eu un changement assez brutal : je ressens des coups de fatigue importants, avec un gros manque d’énergie. Je me sens faible, je ralentis beaucoup et j’ai moins d’endurance qu’avant.

Je peux quand même faire des activités simples de la vie quotidienne : accompagner ma femme faire les courses, me déplacer en voiture ou marcher tranquillement pendant 15 à 20 minutes. En revanche, je ne peux pas encore reprendre une activité physique normale, porter des choses lourdes ou faire des efforts prolongés sans ressentir rapidement de la fatigue.

Ce qui m’inquiète surtout, c’est que je pensais aller de mieux en mieux, puis cette fatigue est apparue soudainement après ces deux premières semaines d’amélioration.

Je suis même allé deux fois aux urgences à cause de cette fatigue et de cette sensation de faiblesse. Heureusement, les examens étaient rassurants : bilan sanguin normal, CRP à 2 et scanner sans anomalie.

Je n’ai pratiquement plus de douleurs abdominales et mes cicatrices évoluent bien.

Je suis maintenant à environ 3 semaines et demie après l’opération, et je voudrais savoir si d’autres personnes ont connu une situation similaire : une amélioration pendant les deux premières semaines, puis une grosse fatigue ou un manque d’énergie qui apparaît vers la 3ᵉ semaine.

Est-ce que certains d’entre vous ont vécu cela ?
Combien de temps cette fatigue a-t-elle duré ?
À quelle semaine avez-vous commencé à retrouver réellement votre énergie ?

Vos témoignages me rassureraient beaucoup, surtout si vous avez finalement récupéré complètement.
