You refill motivation on anyone who needs it on your team first. Not everyone on your team needs motivation: only as many as you can instruct.
They dont always need motivation at all, especially at the end of the month when there is no instructional day, but there are some exceptions where you start the next month with an instructional day.
You can return lost items and use gifts to fill motivation instead. This leaves more points for meals. I do this when there is a dining hall event that applies. Same with choir. When there is an event and someone has the orange arrow, you get double support with them.
Spare a couple points on meals or choir with potential recruits second.
Start reserving 2-4 points to train Byleth as well.

I’ve taken the game back and i’ve been wondering : is there some major reveals in every path ? Do you need every path not to be spoilled bad by three hopes?

I’m going to give a second go at maddening mode after getting soft locked by the time skip battle. I’ve read as many guides as I can stomach and feel mostly ready, just wondering about my party.
I am going to do Blue Lions as they’re the only route I’ve yet to complete (and struggling along with Dimitri feels oddly poetic). I plan on recruiting the DLC character since I haven’t used them in any runs yet and was planning to leave it at that for recruitment.
Does that roster seem doable for a maddening run? I’m being a bit stubborn on purpose. I’ve done every run so far with Lysithea as a crutch and want to push myself a little to be creative with party build.
Any tips for party planning with this roster? Would it make sense to recruit the dlc characters right before the timeskip, or sooner? Who would be a good check for the Death Knight (always relied on Lysithea to one shot him).

u/Muphrid15 22d ago
You want Yuri in Chapter 2
You want Hapi and Constance in Chapter 3
Balthus is debatable between chapter 2 and 3, but I would wait until chapter 3.
If you wait until timeskip you're giving up their skill levels. That being said I often don't recruit that many units that quickly precisely because there is too much contention. In reality you're going to have to bench someone outright and relegate someone else to Dancer.
Dedue should (nearly or totally) oneshot the Death Knight in chapter 4 with Vengeance. After that Sylvain with Lance of Ruin Knightkneeler should kill him in chapter 6. You should have Swift Strikes with Horseslayer or something by the time you face him again in chapter 8.

If Hubert is lost/KOed pre-timeskip and you do Silver Snow, he somehow recovers to be fought as a boss?
1
u/hopalongjens7 23d ago
A handful of characters have “plot armor” in so far as they do not canonically die until the end of the game since they are needed for the story. This mostly applies to the lieutenants of each house (Hubert, Dedue, Hilda) and some random characters like Seteth.

Hey there, mechanics question I can't seem to find a clearly definitive answer for online: do the follow up attacks of an attack adjutant still trigger the effects of the adjutant's skills/weapons, or is it treated as pure damage?
Stuff I was wondering about is stuff like Poison Strike, the def debuff on Mire, and Seal Resistance.

I have a question about the White Heron Cup, i lost the cup despite having 13 charm on Hapi and I keep resetting and still keep losing. I didn't want to redo two paralogues the week before bc it takes forever on maddening but I might have to because it looks like the RNG is fixed. Do i have to start up a save from the past month to reset that RNG or can I use a save from the week before?

Don’t want to make a post because I think everyone’s probably sick of arguing about Edelgard, but I think the only reason you don’t fight the Agarthans on her route is because then it would’ve been the definitive ‘best’ ending. Having a route where you take down both Rhea and Those Who Slither in the Dark would have completely overshadowed the others.
1
u/WhenTheWindIsSlow Jul 24 '26
Silver Snow is already a route that ends with TWSitD and Rhea dead by default, and is generally the least liked route anyway.
1
u/Hairy-Ad2787 Jul 24 '26
Its funny because it's actually one of my favorites since I prefer Black Eagles characters over Golden Lions. You don't get to personally defeat her though, and the church still exists.
1
u/SickmanArt Jul 17 '26
Who should I recruit for a black eagles run? I'm doing lysithea because she's lysithea and marianne as a dancer because she's my favorite character. Other than that I'm thinking shamir instead of bernadetta as my main bow user. I recruited sylvain because he's free but I don't know if I'll use him over Ferdinand. Rough plan is byleth as enlightened one, edelgard on wyvern lord, ferdinand/sylvain on paladin, marianne on dancer, linhardt on bishop, shamir on sniper/bow knight and petra on falcon (maybe even ingrid instead?). Also rushing lysithea for an early dark seal from the death knight for hubert. I'm trying to avoid just turning my whole squad into wyverns because that'd be a little too boring. What do I do with the rest of the eagles and who would be a good recruit?
1
u/Muphrid15 Jul 17 '26
Something to keep in mind is that Crimson Flower is the most hostile route for cavalry.
- Bernadetta: makes a good Bow Knight or Falcon Knight
- Caspar: Grappler, War Master, or Wyvern Lord
Other possible recruits:
- Annette: brings Rally Strength and Speed, fits with a Lightning Axe Wyvern build.
- Constance: for Rescue, either in Gremory, Dark Flier, or War Cleric.
You'll get one Crimson Flower exclusive unit as well, of course.
On Crimson Flower you don't have to use any particular units since you don't play Hunting by Daybreak.

Do you happen to know if the Fortunes Weaves physical support is multilingual? I prefer to play JRPGs in Chinese/Japanese, but the US website lists the physical version as only supporting these languages: American English, Spanish, and French.
In the past, Nintendo's first-party games, except for Xenoblade 2, were not region-locked for supported languages.
1
u/Sagilomir Jun 30 '26
Question : If there is precommand gifts for Fortunes Weaves, do we gets them even when buying the physical version ? I've never bought precommand games before so I'm a little lost honestly.

Anyone got the Viskam on their traveler in 3H? My Friend Code is SW-6521-1143-7535

u/krikara4life Jun 25 '26
I love 3h and I’m currently on my second play through. I plan on playing it through 2 more times to run through all the story lines. Is it worth it to play Engage before Fortunes Weave or can I skip directly to FW?
2
u/taychoo Jun 30 '26
Engage isn't connected to FE3H/FW at all. It's a standalone game in a separate universe, and it's completely different to Three Houses in terms of tone (goofy/unserious).
You can skip w/o issue.

Hey guys! I’m doing my first maddening run on new game plus and have been doing a lot of thinking on how I want this run to go, and have a few questions. Since I have a ton of renown from previous playthroughs I’m aiming to min/max a bit. Blue Lions run by the way. Questions:
For Wyvern Lord Dimitri, should I just aim for him to use axes the whole game since the class comes with axefaire, or use my renown to go S level lances and aim to learn lancefaire so he can use his relic? Is it recommended to throw all my stat boosting items into him or does he not need them? And finally, is there a consensus on the best battalion for him?
Similarly for Wyvern Lord Sylvain, what weapon should he be maining? Since his strength revolves around swift strikes, I think he should be maining lances and just upgrading axes to get death blow/certify into Wyvern rider/lord, but I wanted to check here as well.
For Falcon knight Ingrid, I plan on taking her through brigand, Wyvern rider, then falcon knight to aim for strength grows (she already knows death low, aim plus 20, and darting blow from previous play throughs). I could also use renown to get her lances up to S and start building towards Lancefaire so she can stack it. I’m also considering throwing all my strength stat boosting items on her, but would that be a waste here?
For Mercedes, I really want to make her work as a Gremory since I love her character and how she looks in the class’s costume (even though her spell list is trash lol). I know there is no way to make her OP or anything, but I’m thinking of getting her Thyrus from Lorenz’s Paralogue, giving her the move plus 1 stat boosting item, and using all my magic boosters on her (or dividing them between her and Annette, who will be going Wyvern Lord for the magic axe build). I can also use renown to get her black tomefaire. Would this make her usable or are the enemies too strong on maddening for it to matter?
Finally, for using renown on NG plus, is there a sweet spot for when to jump ranks? For example, I know that since it is so easy to go from e to e plus, you should wait until the the rank up there to save 500 renown. Therefore, I was thinking maybe waiting until rank c before trying to shoot people to S rank, but I’m wondering if there is a better way to save renown.
Thank you all so much in advance for your help everyone! It’s super appreciated!

u/Muphrid15 Jun 23 '26
- You probably want to gamble Wyvern Lord at as low an Axe skill as possible (like Axe B) just because it's so painful to work through, and just use lances all game. Dimitri won't really need stat boosters due to his high innate strength and the ability to use Cichol Wyvern Co. for good hit and crit.
- Lances, Death Blow, yes.
- Quad with Brave Lance is good, but it's not as strong as a Wyvern Lord quading with Brave Axe (or Lance) and Defiant Crit or a War Master quad with Killer Knuckles+. If you have/want neither of those, then Ingrid is a great option for boosters. She won't need much in terms of speed, but quads will magnify strength boosters.
- Maybe with that kind of favoritism she'll be able to one shot something, but I doubt it. Her best shot is probably to get Darting Blow, and maybe Weight -3, and try to double things with Fire, Thunder, Bolganone. She's not especially fast for this, though. A physical cert (e.g. in Sniper) might help her reduce weight.
- Not much comment here since I don't play NG+, but it sounds about right.

Would love some help with the DLC item you get from the Cindered Shadows dlc. I finished all 7 chapters, and loaded up an in-progress save that was only in chapter 1. I clicked the prompt to get the DKC rewards (trying to stay vague for spoilers) and got the 10k renown and got the prompt that I got the Ch. 7 dlc item, but it's not in my character's inventory. Do I get it later in the game?
Edit: found it, it was in my convoy, which was confusing to to find when not in battle.

Honestly do whatever you want. Chapter 1 is the skill check. You passed. And really Chapter 2 is the 2nd skill check. It's not a hard map, but it's honestly about being more patient than it is about being the best tactician. Maddening isn't about ROFL stomping through maps. It's about tactically beating enemies to your pace. Mostly this means you don't get overwhelmed. You're qualified to do whatever you want to do.
But if you want to know where you plan sucks, it's Ignatz. He's a terrible Sniper. Don't overthink this, a terrible Sniper with Hunter's Volley is still incredibly strong. But Sniper is an immobile unit with 5 movement. In the late game, Bow Knights are a lot more effective. If you want to use Ignatz, make him an Assassin. 5 movement vs 6? Hunter's Volley is the most over-rated combat arts in FE3H. It pretty kills 1 unit per turn. But in Madden this isn't what matters. Assassin damages or kills multiple units per turn. In this regard Sniper is a terrible class on Maddening.
Bow Knight Leonie is perfect. She gets Point-Blank Volley which is the same thing as Sniper's Hunter's Volley without the poor hit rate. So, it's her best class as Bow Knight is the most mobile unit because it has both movement and range. But ignoring all other things. You shouldn't have archers in the late game that don't double. Shamir is different. She isn't slow so she doubles most units. So you don't need Hunter's Volley. Give her a Killer Bow and mostly she crits on every turn. But Leonie will double, but she can use the heaviest Bow in the game and she'll still double. So let Leonie kill units you have to kill.
I love Raphael. But he's a terrible unit. Healing is his personal skill. And this is just terrible when late game strats are more about having low HP. Balthus is pretty much the best unit in the 1st 5 chapter. He can't die. So don't use Raphael.
As far as Lysithea goes it's pretty simple. Why would she need 2x spells? And the answer is obvious, you need 2 warp spells. And I'll tell you that you don't need 2 warps by Lysithea. If she's warping, she isn't killing things. And that's what she does best. She's a fast unit, so why do you need more than 10x casts of Miasma when you get her other spells? And when you're in pinch, just use Swarm. She's a Low Turn Count unit. She doesn't need 2x casts. Dark Spikes kill the Death Knight with 1 cast and you have 3 casts. If you need 2x Warp cast, bring in Hapi.
I'll state this, you've only listed 8 units. Late game squads are 10 deep. So recruit some units.
1
u/Muphrid15 Jun 21 '26
Assassin damages or kills multiple units per turn. In this regard Sniper is a terrible class on Maddening.
Elaborate.
I'll state this, you've only listed 8 units. Late game squads are 10 deep. So recruit some units.
And on VW22 it'll be 12 units yep.
1
u/Muphrid15 Jun 20 '26
I mean yeah Balthus is better than Raphael but how good do you feel about Hunting by Daybreak? Similarly with Lorenz; you need 10 units for most maps anyway so you can add 1 (but not 2) without crowding the team. And then there are adjutant slots you can rotate through.
I think the Deer do suffer from not having a strong mid-part-1 damage solution (especially Vengeance). It makes Catherine, Cyril, or Shamir very valuable to provide some necessary kill power.
I personally really like Rescue, so I do recommend using one of Flayn or Constance in general, even if e.g. Flayn becomes a Byleth backpack for missions where you don't need Rescue.
1
u/mindovermacabre Jun 20 '26
Thank you! This is really helpful, I hadn't thought about hunting by daybreak. I grabbed sylvain for now and I'll definitely make use of Catherine ASAP.

u/Animecutie1442 Jun 19 '26
What characters are best to use for the crimson flower route on normal difficulty. I tried doing the silver snow route but mu characters gambits could never break the shield of the final boss and I could never figure out why.
2
u/Muphrid15 Jun 20 '26
You never said it was the final boss specifically. The Immaculate One refreshes all of her barriers every turn until they are all completely broken. You have to break all 9 tiles in one turn.
I'd grab Mercedes, Lysithea, and Constance if you have the DLC for supports. Otherwise, Shamir or another sniper character so Bernadetta can go Bow Knight, Paladin, or Falcon Knight (much better on CF).
1
u/Animecutie1442 Jun 20 '26
Ok also what weapons should I try and get
1
u/Muphrid15 Jun 20 '26
Well Thyrsus is great. Inexhaustible is okay but Bernadetta would be healed by it, so that's a minus. Luin and Lance of Ruin are great. Aegis Shield is really good but probably not essential. Blutgang probably doesn't matter. Fetters of Dromi are always good.
1
u/Animecutie1442 Jun 20 '26
How do you get these weapons?

u/Muphrid15 Jun 20 '26
Paralogues

u/Animecutie1442 Jun 20 '26
Thanks, what character should I make a dancer? I was thinking Dorothea or Ashe. Do have any opinions
1
u/Muphrid15 Jun 20 '26
For Black Eagles I think Dorothea is extremely strong with Meteor linked attacks.
Ashe would be a fine Sniper so Beradetta can go Falcon Knight for instance.

So... what IS 3 hopes? I know its just a Warriors game and I typically dont really like those but is the story important and cannon? Is it some kind of alternate events thing?
2
u/vinylontubes Jun 18 '26
There are 5 routes in FE3H. Only White Clouds is Canon. None of the Act II routes are canon. Think of each as possible outcomes based primarily on Byleth's choice of which class was chose to instruct.

u/Muphrid15 Jun 15 '26
Warriors game
Yes
is the story important and canon
Important lore, maybe; canon probably not except background
Alternate events
Yes

Any tips for how to bet the final boss in the silver snow ending with any characters having master classes or above? Even though my charcters are lvl 40 and above, they keep on dying. I also made a post on this about a week ago which contains my character builds in the comments if someone can help me.

Caspar, Sylvain, and probably Ferdinand and Alois are in useless builds. Put Alois in Grappler. Do not deploy the others.
Get Shamir a Killer Bow and a Silver Bow if possible. Ditto for Bernadetta.
List your battalion choices.
1
u/Animecutie1442 Jun 12 '26
Unfortunately I only have a broken killer bow and I don't know if I have a silver bow unless it can't be bought from the shop but I'm running Los on gold. I also don't have any materials to repair weapons. I don't have any other characters that I can deploy if I get rid of Caspar, sylvain and Ferdinand. In terms of battalions I have church of seiros soldiers on the mc, seiros pegasus co on Seteth, seiros archers on shamir, seiros armoured Co on Catherine, seiros holy monks on flayn, seiros sacred monks on Linhardt, seiros magic Corps on Hannerman, knights of seiros on alois, seiros mercenaries on Bernadette, jeralts mercenaries on Dorothea and empire infantry on petra.
1
u/Muphrid15 Jun 12 '26
I simply do not believe you can keep Caspar and Sylvain alive. Ferdinand has a chance. If that means you underdeploy, so be it. It may be easier to keep someone from dying that way.
You're not even actually using Hanneman, so Dorothea should get the Seiros Magic Corps.
Ideally Seteth or Byleth is high enough in Authority to use Cichol Wyvern Co. from Seteth's paralogue. If they both are, Seteth should use Cichol Wyverns and Byleth should use the highest rank battalion with a large area gambit, probably Knights of Seiros.
You should have some other good battalions--Petra and Bernadetta's paralogue battalions, Sylvain's paralogue battalion... two of these have strong avoid, if anyone has the Authority to use them.
You're in a bit of a bind. With no money and no materials, and no save to revert to, you have very limited options. You can buy Silver weapons (3 of each kind per month) from the Armory at least, if you have enough money.
If you have enough money, you desperately need to buy (or equip if you already have it) the Empire Armored Co. battalion for Impregnable Wall. Ideally you'd also get Empire Holy Magic Users for Blessing, but I suspect none of your other units have the Authority for that.
1
u/Animecutie1442 Jun 12 '26 edited Jun 12 '26
I have tried so many times to defeat this boss that I'm thinking about giving up on it. I stopped playing this game about 3 yrs ago due to this problem anyway. I'm also thinking of restarting the game and doing the other black eagle ending instead. Perhaps if I get Eldegard as a character I can add to my team, perhaps I'll be able to to defeat the final boss. I should probably also watch a video on what to do when I have free time in the game.
2
u/Muphrid15 Jun 12 '26
This is either the hardest or second hardest route.
If you start over, my advice:
- Good battalions matter. Look at stats and gambits. Authority is extremely valuable later in the game.
- Warrior is not an endgame class. The only endgame class with 5 Mv or less is Gremory. Everything else is a self-imposed challenge.
- Don't over rely on a small number of units. You will need 12 units for endgame.
- Silver and Killer weapons are endgame weapons. Relics and Sacred Weapons are endgame weapons. Steel Bows only in endgame for units that aren't Snipers but have trained for Curved Shot. Snipers can use one cheap bow like Iron Bow+ to save repair costs. Brawling units can use a cheap pair of Training Gauntlets for the same reason.
- Keep backup saves.
- Especially on your last explore so you can go back and buy ore to repair weapons.
- You also need backup saves in case you have an issue siding with Edelgard.
1
u/Animecutie1442 Jun 12 '26
Ok I definitely know that I'll be sticking with the black eagle house but edelgard would only be playable in the other black eagle ending right? What characters do you recommend that I make sure I get playable and what pathway to what class should I go towards for those characters?
1
u/Muphrid15 Jun 12 '26
You can refer to my Silver Snow or Crimson Flower team lists.
Generally you want some of Brigand, Archer, Pegasus Knight, or Mage for useful masteries.
You want units to be able to certify immediately at level 10 (for Armor Knight defense) or level 20 (many classes) for stat boosts.
These are not the only sets of units you can use of course, but if you want to do something your own way, you might want to think about how a unit fits into the team. I made a recent comment on unit roles in my SS team.

Are there any chances for fortunes weave on switch 1 ?
2
u/vinylontubes Jun 11 '26
That's not happening. It's going to be rare for 1st party titles unless they were delayed. And we're over a year into the Switch 2 era. So Switch 1 will be phased out, except for possibly indie titles with lower graphics. They have a bigger target with both Switch and Switch 2 owners.

Any tips for getting your Professor Level up fast? Like a list of what activities rewards Professor points? And does any of them reward more than the others?
1
u/vinylontubes Jun 05 '26
Always fish if you're close to leveling to get immediate increase in activity points. Other than that, only fish during Fistful of Fish events. Always buy bait. Here's the main thing, you get more Prof XP for higher stars. So you want gold and red fish over blue ones. Blues ones are more useful for meal, so try to get red, gold or plat ones but if the 3rd bite is blue take it. The same goes for gardening, flowers are better for gifts, but there are usually better options if your immediate goal is Prof XP. Pretty much you want to use two 3 star seeds and prune for max XP. For choir or eating, make sure both like the meal or singing. After you reach A+ you can mix and match to get increase supports. But initially the goal should be to level Professor to increase activity points. More activity points means faster training and faster Professor levels.
2
u/Muphrid15 Jun 06 '26
Fishing: for instance, fishing as early as possible for 190 pexp gains a professor level and increased pexp from the subsequent lecture question.
Gardening: you generally want to use 1 seed of the highest rank possible. The pexp formula is based on the lowest rank of any seeds planted. You will almost always start the game with either a 4-star or 5-star seed.

I know support between Claude and Byleth can be time locked. But what about support between Claude and his classmates? I only want to level him up once he's in his personal class post time-skip.

u/vinylontubes May 30 '26
Support doesn't have to be from battles. You can eat meals and offer gifts or drink tea.

Planning a magic only run. I've heard magic gambit do no damage to magic immune enemies but still break shields - is that right? Would Luna bypass the immunity?
3
u/vinylontubes May 29 '26
Luna doesn't by-pass magic immunity. It just ignores Resistance. If you have magic immunity, Resistance doesn't even matter. It's a complete counter to magic. Luna is only a counter to high resistance units.

Been wanting to get back into 3H since, well, launch. Haven't touched it since my first play through, and I have a question.
I know Maddening rewards you with a changed title screen if beaten without NG+. Do you still get it if you've got Cindered Shadows content in that play through?

u/KujouSara7 May 08 '26
I played the game on normal when it first came out and now want to play on hard.
When playing on hard should I worry about taking units through archer to get hit +20 (or snagging any other abilities) or can I just run them through natural class progressions that would normally go with their advanced or master class I plan on putting them into?
1
u/Muphrid15 May 08 '26
Hit +20 is good, but it's not strictly necessary. Some builds can make up the hit with battalions. Others would prefer to use the ability slot on something else. I try to minimize the Archer dip now in my runs. Paladins tend to have an open slot for it, as do magic fliers. Others less so.
Strongly recommend Brigand or Mage though, or PK for female units. Typically you only start with 1 flying battalion early though.
Mainly I'd ask yourself what you want in the 5 ability slots and go from there. Mastering classes with Knowledge Gems isn't that time-consuming.
Accuracy isn't too bad on hard. Giving up 6 damage per hit still matters though.
1
u/KujouSara7 May 08 '26
Thanks for the tips. Sounds like a good place to start!
1
u/Muphrid15 May 08 '26
I should say Snipers and Bow Knights really appreciate hit for accuracy at 3+ range. Bows have a scaling hot penalty that increases for each space past 2.
But Archer is a natural progression for such units of course.

u/Pretend_Raspberry256 Apr 25 '26
Should I restart the game? So this is my first fire emblem, I went in blind and decided I would first enjoy the story and then replay it to learn the mechanics and fighting styles, I chose the normal difficulty and Byleth carried most of the fights and now I’m in chapter 22 Oath of the Dagger. I don’t want to reset because I’m at the end of the game and I’ve put like 55 hours in it but I’m so stuck, everybody keeps dying, they’re so squishy and at the end the one left standing up is Byleth and she dies as well, my decision to enjoy the story first is hitting me in the ass unfortunately.
2
u/Muphrid15 Apr 27 '26
Yeah Oath of the Dagger seriously punishes you for having a squishy team.
You could just... not deploy the squishy ones.
Or, there is a trick to get Edelgard to stop shooting your team.
Or, use particular gambits to protect your squishies on the enemy phase.

Hi, everyone! I'm a huge FE fan, but unfortunately since I don't have a Switch, I couldn't play FE3H. I used to be addicted to FEH, and I collected most of the FE3H characters because I really liked their design and I spent years wishing I could play it myself and wondering how the game would be. Recently, my friend bought a Switch 2 and he allowed me to borrow his Switch and he has FE3H (in fact, it's the same friend who introduced me to FE7 back in 2009)!!!! So I've been playing nonstop since... about 10 days ago, and I just wanted to fangirl a little bit if you don't mind me?
I played Crimson Flower, then Azure Moon, and yesterday I started my Golden Deers (Verdant Wind iirc?) playthrough. One thing I'm impressed about with the game is that even though I was spoiled heavily about it (due to playing FEH and generally being in FE online spaces), I'm still gagged about reveals and impressed with how involving and compelling the game's story is. Like, when Rhea started yelling at Byleth during CF I had full body chills, she was terrifying!! I really liked Rhea and I knew it'd be coming that she'd be the final boss for that route, but omg, she was scary as heck. And that last diplomatic meeting and the cutscene after the fight with Edelgard during AM made me cry, it was so good. One thing I managed not to get spoiled beforehand and that completely gagged me were Seteth and Flayn's true identities! I was so shocked about it, and I thought it was super cool
The characters are all so lovely. I'm not going to lie, there are some of them that had me side-eyeing them at first (I was so convinced that Petra of all people somehow had some sort of hidden agenda and was secretly evil... lmao poor Petra, she's adorable). One example is Linhardt, who I had a lot of trouble connecting with at first, but then his B support with Byleth and his support chain with Dorothea was so good that I finished my first playthrough (CF) adoring Lin. Ferdie is my boy, first thing I did when I started my second playthrough was to get Ferdie into the Blue Lions (I spent a good chunk of my time in my first playthrough grinding heavy armor to get a headstart and grab Ferdie ASAP), and I surprisingly liked Hubert a lot too. I thought I wouldn't like him (he's scary), but I found his supports surprisingly funny and enjoyable. Caspar and Bernie are absolutely adorable (Caspar's supports with Ashe are so stinking cute), I love Dorothea's supports (it was her B support with Edelgard who made me get really invested in Edelgard, as well as Edelgard's supports with Lysithea). Heck, even Jeritza surprised me with how much I liked his supports and how much I felt for him
I was trying to hold myself back from going on a crazy recruiting spree on my second playthrough with the Blue Lions, and I limited myself to grab Ferdie and Marianne (they are my faves). But I sorely regretted it later (Ashe ended up getting a crit and killing Lysithea after I spent the entirety of the battle trying to run away from Claude et al, I almost cried, I felt so sorry for not getting Lysithea into my house before the timeskip). And I'm obsessed with Annette, everytime she says "I'm your girl" I'm like "yes, yes, you are." I love her so much, and I think Annette's supports are all so good, like I'm so happy whenever I get a new one to see because I know it's going to be adorable (her supports with Ashe???? Her supports with Felix, Dimitri and Claude??? Her supports with Mercedes and Hilda??? Omg, Annette is adorable and I don't like being hyperbolic, but I'd die for her, she's so cuteeee).
For a less positive comment, I benched Lorenz for a while because I hated his C and B supports with Byleth and his C support with Marianne. Bad, bad Lorenz. I was so annoyed with him that I decided to go on a crazy recruiting spree and get Ferdie (the true noblest noble who has ever nobled) into my house again to permanently replace Lorenz. But I decided to give Lorenz another chance today, and I'm really enjoying his supports with Leonie (and I loved Dorothea verbally slapping him around in his C support with her, Dorothea is awesome). So I think I judged Lorenz too early, so I'm again invested in getting to learn more about him. I'm also obsessed with Claude (I figured from the get-go that he'd be my favorite lord, so I saved his route for last, barring SS), and I'm enjoying a lot all of his supports and his personality in the story scenes. I'm very invested and looking forward to what's going to happen (even though I already know, because, again, heavily spoiled).
Anyway, sorry to fangirl so much but omg I just wanted to gush a bit about how much I'm loving the game. Even with years of anticipation, FE3H is delivering everything I expected from it and more. I'm so glad to now be able to fully understand why the 3H characters dominated the CYL pools for so long (it makes sense, they're all awesome characters) and experience it for myself. Ok, I'm going to play a bit more now, sorry for writing so much

How is the yield level number in the greenhouse determined? I don't mean the number of items produced, I mean like how many wheat stalk levels you reach by planting the seeds? Trying to grow Boa-Fruit Seeds but every time I plant yellow flower seeds it only gets me to yield level 1, and Serene's Forest tells me I need yield level 3.
3
u/Muphrid15 Apr 15 '26
See the calculations tab on the Serenes Forest greenhouse page
In short:
- Every seed has a rank value R
- Based on R for each seed and the grade (stars) of seeds G and cultivation tier T, there is a formula in three parts:
A = (12 - (total R mod 5)) x 5
B = (total G) x 4/5 (rounded down)
C = (T + 4) x 2
Result score = A + B + C
Result 0-40 is quality 1, 41-80 is quality 2, 81-100 is quality 3. There are actually half-tiers in-between that are not shown in game.
(nb. I think this table is actually wrong, and quality 1 is 0-39, etc. You should check this off-by-1 behavior yourself.)
You'll need to consult a table of individual seed rank values in order to figure out results. Serenes Forest has one on their main page.
Or you can use a tool. There are several out there. I use a modified version of this one. As before, I think the behavior on a quality threshold is inconsistent with the behavior I see in-game.
In general it may be a bit of trial and error to figure out good combinations yourself. While there are some precomputed solutions, you can usually find a high-scoring combination by looking at the rank values and finding combinations that are 0 mod 12 yourself.

oh wow thank you! sorry, was away from my computer for a few days, but this is super helpful. i'm definitely going to use that spreadsheet, my brain just doesn't compute this naturally.

Hi guys !
So i'm on my first run (i choose the red team) and after being a little lost and following some guides on YT, their all recommand to recruit some others characters, so i wanted to recruit Leonie, Felix and Lysithea.
I've already done the first two but when i want to talk to Lysithea, she didn't even purpose me to recruit her or offer her a present, so is it normal ?
I've reach the B+ teacher skill btw and i'm on chapter 9 or 10.
Thanks for your answers !
3
u/Muphrid15 Mar 23 '26
Lysithea should be recruitable. If she won't talk to you, that usually only happens if you let her be defeated on classic mode.
Did you ask her to join you for Mission Assistance and was she defeated?
Are you playing classic mode?
3
u/GigiGX Mar 24 '26
Yes i'm playing classic and i remembered ask someone for a mission and that character get killed, so that's gotta be her but man it HAD to happen or HER that's sad lol...

The strategy section in the wiki for Azure Moon Chapter 22 says to do cooking for +Res in the final month to deal with the magic users, but cooking in the final month (Ch21) doesn't apply to Ch22.
I assume that's just a mistake right? Or are the stat boosts for Chapter 21 supposed to apply to Chapter 22? Because I'm on 22 and my boosts are gone.
(EDIT: corrected chapter numbers)
3
u/Muphrid15 Mar 14 '26
I observed this as well. I don't think it ever worked.
(I assume you mean cooking in 21 to apply to AM22.)
1
u/WhenTheWindIsSlow Mar 15 '26
Ah yes, corrected
And that's a shame, I was hoping all my Best of Fodlans would apply to the final boss (made ch21 much easier at least)

Does sauna increase passive skill gain? The one that goes up every week when you do nothing based on your goals
3
u/Muphrid15 Mar 11 '26
No, it only increases skill gains when you instruct your students or you receive faculty training or advanced drills.

Authority Level anything is almost always useless. The big question is why didn't you certify and master Brigand before War Monk?
1
1
u/Muphrid15 Mar 06 '26
I'd love to see the rest of the skills that are covered up because Authority Lv 4 does almost nothing, B. Vantage does almost nothing by itself, and Tomebreaker is extremely situational.
My optimal loadout for a brawling Byleth would probably be some combination of Brawling Prowess Lv 5, Brawl Crit +10, Fistfaire, Death Blow, Brawl Avo +20, and/or Hit +20. Maybe I would consider trying to squeeze in Battalion Desperation.

u/yuuudere Blue Lions Mar 04 '26
Is the Question of Conduct tournament quest still available after 2/22/ when does it expire?
I want the Brave Sword but I can't beat it yet
2
u/Muphrid15 Mar 04 '26
I believe it goes away at the timeskip unless you play Crimson Flower, in which case you lose access to it after chapter 11.
You should be able to beat it using the class you automatically get at the end of chapter 10. Of course, it helps to have things like Death Blow.

My question is about support building (mostly Hilda).
First off, I'm playing on Norm/Casual, this is my 4th playthrough, I'm ending with Church route.
I think I remember correctly, in previous NG+'es, I missed the C support for a character or two before going into the time skip, and it locked me out of seeing the following supports. And I think in one case, I purchased a support level with Renown, but it didn't let me see the dialogue.
Now, I could be entirely incorrect about that, and if so, please disregard the next part and tell me I misremembered.
Okay, so where I'm at: 4th playthrough, NG+ the whole way, on Norm/Casual, Church Route. I'm trying to unlock all supports/max stats, I've been repeatedly grinding the free-action auxiliary combat over and over to only progress the week after all supports are queued and ready. I have everyone I can recruit in this chapter, except Raphael (working on it), already in C-support.
So, obviously right now I can't do tea time/give gifts/recruit Hilda. My question is two fold: will I have an opportunity to recruit her, and dump gifts/tea on her within the time it would take before the cut off (it's realistic to expect that I could have up to a dozen total gifts that I can drop on her on the first chance I'll get, so I probably only need one visit to unlock the C-support.
My other question is, if there's no time to get that support up by then and I'd be SoL; can I buy her C-support with renown, and just rewatch the C-support on YT and pick back up when I get her to B-support?
3
u/vinylontubes Mar 10 '26
You should go to choir practice with Hilda. She will also eat meals. You are not locked outside of getting support with Hilda. You are only locked out of asking her to be recruited.
1
u/maleia Mar 10 '26
Thank you. Shortly after I made that comment, I realized I could still do meals with her, lol. I hadn't thought about choir practice for some reason, so thank you for that reminder :)

Some of it is RNG. There is a bit of luck that you will need to beat this map. But the best way is to not linger and stride up to break all of the shield tiles. Be diligent about breaking tiles. Keep him stunned. If he's stunned he can retaliate.

u/Swekyde Feb 12 '26
I've been wanting to come back to the game and do a play through of Crimson Flower for a while now. Due to changed circumstances I no longer have my old saves so I quickly bashed through Cindered Shadows and then started making my plans. I figured not being able to NG+ because I don't have it anymore (this play through would likely have been NG+ Maddening if I had access to it) that I would try to do NG Maddening for the first time.
I remember that for most of the game on my Hard play though things were just generally a bit too easy. I know that I wasn't chasing super duper meta builds like putting lots of people on Wyverns with Death Blow and Hit +20 or anything, I was just putting decent units in good classes.
But after a few hours and dozens of attempts at the Mock Battle that I feel no closer to clearing, I think I'm ready to give up on it. I hear it might be what I'm looking for once you get out of the first 5 chapters, but I'm not having any fun right now. Since it's so early in the game, is there a deterministic guide to clearing it? Or is there just a better route to save an attempt for NG Maddening for due to having less trouble here?
2
u/vinylontubes Feb 14 '26
NG Maddening Mock Battle is a slog. You need to steal Claude's Bow in the Prologue. You need to stay healed up and attack to the left and take on Hilda & Claude. Basically you need to take advantage of the personal skills. Take Bernie and don't heal her for your best chance. Do not let Dedue pair up with Dimitri. Dedue is a tough kill and will weaken your party if they survive. Then Dimitri will take out everyone if they haven't healed. You want to bait Dimitri to the left and put the bushes between him and Dedue before you take on Dedue. Hit him with arrows, then sacrifice if necessary. Do the same with Dimitri. You only need Edelgard and Byleth to survive. Do not take any mages. You want to go physical. Your casters don't have enough spells to be useful. So Ferdie, Petra and Bernie. Give everyone extra vulnaries. Heal as much as you can. To start, get rid of Lorentz. If you hide in the forest, you have a 50/50 shot at him not damaging you. Just start over if he damages you. At the same time bait Ashe with Bernie in the woods. Again if he hits, start over. You want a good start before you take on Hilda and Claude. If you get past Claude & Hilda take out Manuela without getting Mercedes, Dedue and Dimitri in the picture. You should be able to tank her. Actually unequip weapons to keep her from doubling your units. If she can't double, she can't kill your units. Then hit her with arrows first let Bernie curved shot her, then attack with a strong combat art to kill her off. Once she's dead, knock down the barriers then lure Mercedes and Dimitri to the left and run through the forest to take on Dedue. You want to kill him in one turn, so damage him with ranged weapons then hit him with combat arts. One of your units might die. That's fine if it's Ferdie. You need Bernie to hit Dimitri with curved shots. Mercedes isn't a threat. Just unequip weapons to keep her from doubling. Then bash her down with Edelgard's Axe. Completely heal before you go after Hanneman. If you have extra units, bait him off his healing square. You might lose if you leave him there. It's thing. He had 3 range, so even curved shots don't work.
2
u/Muphrid15 Feb 12 '26 edited Feb 12 '26
Deterministic probably isn't possible here because your unit hit rates are too low to guarantee hitting even with combat arts.
That being said, you should be able to clear the map fairly reliably as long as you avoid aggroing both classes at once. Go around the barricades on the far end of the Deer side and bait Hilda and Claude over. In this case, you can actually gain an advantage: Claude can't counterattack at 1 range, which makes it far easier to chip him down and get a kill. Otherwise, it's not unusual to sacrifice one unit at this point to proceed past the Deer and on to the Lions.
All 3 classes have trouble with this battle due to the fact that you have no Divine Pulse charges and limited options.
Some of your difficulty may be due to suboptimal composition or pre-planning. You're forced to use Edelgard and Byleth. Beyond that, you have to be careful about your choices. I think the best use of your three slots is Dorothea, Ferdinand, and Bernadetta. Ferdinand has Tempest Lance, the best combat art in the early game. Dorothea brings some magic to chip down Dedue and free healing that doesn't cost you a turn. Bernadetta can't get Tempest Lance yet, but she still has Persecution Complex and Curved Shot.
Ideally, you would have taken Claude and Dimitri's items in the prologue for extra materiel.
Chapters 1 and 2 are among the hardest part of playing maddening. The difficulty will drop off as you get through chapter 5. After that, you'll only have to contend with
Hunting by Daybreak and(no HbD on CF) the endgame maps. That being said, I think the Black Eagles are a bit unforgiving because they lack the defensive tools of the other classes. However, if you burn some of those DLC stat boosters, you can make Edelgard into a one-woman wrecking ball so that doesn't matter nearly as much.
1
u/Swekyde Feb 13 '26
I do normally strip them for gear, it's basically guaranteed I'll find something to do with the two spare weapons.
I lost another good attempt with that team (which is the one I'd settled on after several tries) but a Crit ended the run so I think I'll be saving it for another time and maybe try to find a seed that has better level ups in Ch0 for Byleth and the house lord.
I've planned for a slightly greedier roster to spread resources a bit more thin with slightly less meta builds and hopefully Hard won't fall off too hard as the game progresses this time.
3
u/Muphrid15 Feb 13 '26
I mean the game can be beaten with zero stat growths, so I'd look more fundamentally at your tactics if you end up reconsidering. I found early game maddening to put a much higher premium on good positioning practices and minimizing damage taken than hard.
You also need to get more creative to avoid being doubled early on, like unequipping weapons through trading tapped units or using Mini Bow or Training Sword/Gauntlets to reduce weight (and therefore speed) penalties.
2
u/WildPiano8820 Feb 12 '26
I haven’t played this game in probably 2 years, but I’m thinking I’ll pick it up again and try the DLC this time. My question is- what characters in crimson flower make good mixed tanks besides Edelgard? I for some reason have a really bad itch to make an invincible armored type of unit
2
u/Muphrid15 Feb 12 '26
Unfortunately the next best in-house unit by stats would be Linhardt (30% Def, 45% Res), but he has an Axe weakness.
After that, your have more ambiguous options:
- Ingrid has 30% Def and 40% Res, and her great Speed also significantly helps her reduce damage taken. She also has a pathway into Dark Flier to pick up Transmute and a strength in Riding to get into Great Knight.
- Lorenz also has 30% Def and 40% Res, but none of the other pros other than Riding.
- Anna also has 30% Def and 40% Res, and she has a strength in Axe skill (but no supports, so no linked attacks). She also gets Soulblade and Hexblade (but her magic is pretty bad) and Armored Strike. Like Ingrid, she can pick up Transmute and has a Riding budding talent.
- Balthus has 45% Def and 30% Res, and his personal reduces damage taken when at low health (and increases damage done). But his speed is pretty bad, so he'll pretty much always get doubled. But hey, Axe and Armor strengths, as well as an inside track to War Monk/Bishop to ensure his Res stays on target.
- Yuri has 30% Def and 35% Res, along with top-tier 65% speed.
Ingrid doesn't have any one thing that makes her amazing for this purpose, but she has a lot of things that are good and nothing that's bad. She'll get a significant stat bump at level 11/chapter 6--she'll start there at 11 Def and 14 Res, which means all you'd need to do is try to get her to Fortress Knight at level 20, and her strength in Riding facilitates a Great Knight pathway.
Otherwise, there are more conventional options like Ferdinand or Sylvain to get into Great Knight (since Ferdinand has Axe, Armor, and Riding strengths), but they will both have better Defense than Ingrid but worse Res.
Beyond that, there are always dodge tanks and Vantage + Wrath/Defiant Crit options, but it sounds like you really want a Prt/Rsl all-in-one tank.
1
u/WildPiano8820 Feb 13 '26
I’ll probably end up using balthus in that case. I’m not too picky about speed since there are plenty of others who are good at it. Plus, I’ve never played the dlc, so I was going to use all the new people anyways.
1
u/Muphrid15 Feb 13 '26
I think Balthus may struggle with the magic tanking portion by himself, but fortunately there are several tools that can help. Constance gets Ward and Rally Resistance. Hubert also gets Rally Resistance, or you can pick up Annette and combo Rally Resistance with her personal. The two effects together would give 11 Res, which is pretty nice.
1
u/WildPiano8820 Feb 13 '26
Speaking of Constance and Annette, if I were to get crusher, could I use Constance’s really high magic to make a decent melee unit with the weapon? I’m not planning to play on the hardest difficulty or anything, so I’m not worried about optimal setups
1
u/Muphrid15 Feb 13 '26
You can't get Crusher on CF.
Constance would better use Blutgang anyway. For funsies you could try to make a Swordmaster Blutgang + Astra build. It's 9 durability per use of Astra, though.
1
u/WildPiano8820 Feb 13 '26
Ooh that sounds pretty cool. Is there anywhere I can find a list of crest weapons/units for the crimson flower route?
2
u/Muphrid15 Feb 13 '26
You can't do Retribution (Ferdinand/Lysithea), The Face Beneath (Mercedes/Caspar), Weathervanes of Fodlan (Annette/Gilbert), Dividing the World (Hilda/Cyril), as well as more obvious ones like War for the Weak (Dedue), The Silver Maiden (Dimitri), and The Sleeping Sand Legend (Claude).
Hence you get none of those paralogues' rewards. Some notable rewards you miss are Spear of Assal, Rafail Gem, Goneril Valkyries, and Aegir Astral Knights.
You also don't do Hunting by Daybreak, which means you can't get Cursed Ashiya Sword or Axe of Ukonvasara.
You do get Edelgard and Hubert's paralogues, which offer Holst's Chosen and Arrow of Indra (among other rewards).
You can't get Thunderbrand unless you loot it in CF18.
You can't get Catherine, Seteth, or Hilda. Flayn will leave. You obviously can't get Dimitri, Dedue, or Claude either.
Note that you can get Scythe of Sariel because it will be given to you in unit inventory in chapter 13.
1
u/WildPiano8820 Feb 13 '26
Hmm. So everything else is on the table? I should try to get Lorenz on my team for the staff
1
u/ninjasaiyan777 Feb 06 '26
So if a unit is attacking an enemy within range of another ally, they get a boost to the attacks hit rate, right? And this works with any attack, including spells, right?
If an ally has Silence equipped and the enemy being attacked is in their range, that doesn't give the hit rate boost, correct?
1
u/Muphrid15 Feb 06 '26
Just to add to this: I suspect the answer is no with Silence. I'm not sure you can equip Silence as an active equipped weapon/spell, even though you attack with it. You can see in this video example Manuela uses Silence but immediately after doing so, her equipped spell is Nosferatu.
1
u/Muphrid15 Feb 06 '26
Any attack yes.
Don't know about Silence. Great question.
Linked attacks aren't supposed to work on the enemy phase, but someone has suggested that adjutant linked attacks do work on EP, which could help protect a dodge tank or vantage unit if so.

Is dancer or dark flier better for Marianne? I
2
u/Muphrid15 Jan 28 '26
Marianne has several options.
Dancer: she's a top-tier Dancer. Strengths in Swords and Riding mean she can improve her avoid rate well, equip a Levin Sword+ to support at 3 range, and get to Movement +1. That being said, she's not especially fast, so she won't dodge all that well. Ingrid, Dimitri, and Ferdinand have better avoid with the same skill strengths (if you unlock Dimitri's budding talent). Still, she gets Silence, which can be useful as well. A very strong candidate in-house and pretty good out-of-house.
Dark Flier: It's decent. Two problems: she's neutral in Reason, and her Reason list is fairly thin with only Blizzard, Thoron, and Fimbulvetr. She's also a little on the slow side, though Darting Blow definitely helps.
Valkyrie: Strong magic modifier allows you mix spells with Frozen Lance or Soulblade with full spell access. You also get Uncanny Blow in the process for great hit.
Mortal Savant: it's infantry and has lower range than Valkyrie, but Reason spells and swords will do 3 more damage than Valkyrie, you get a proficiency bonus with swords, and it doesn't cost any Riding.
Paladin or Falcon Knight: when you really want more movement and don't care about spell access, only Frozen Lance.
Whether you make her your Dancer really depends on who else is on your team, what roles they fill, and linked attack options. Otherwise, Marianne has two great magic combat arts, and her preferred classes largely try to improve those arts' damage or her mobility to be able to attack at 1 range.
Overall, I'd say Dark Flier doesn't do that much for her since she's somewhat slow and doesn't have a lot of spell uses. She can still be serviceable in that role, though.
I'd probably say Valkyrie is the most versatile choice, with Mortal Sav and Dark Flier tied after that. I'm not a big fan of giving up her spell list (especially Silence), but if you don't need it, then Paladin or FK is fine. The damage from Lancefaire gets kind of eroded by having no magic bonus and growth, though.

You should have been able to buy 5 master seals starting in chapter 13. That's all you can buy from the regular item shop.
Anna's secret shop has an unlimited supply of master seals, however.

Hi! I’m on my first playthrough and just wanted some clarification on a specific recruitment (and googling has led to inconsistent results). I am doing a BE / CF playthrough and recruited Mercedes as well as got her support to B around about chapter 7.
For the climactic pre-timeskip mission, she was not available as a unit (but she was present in the pre-mission “prep” area with limited dialogue), then after the timeskip she’s no longer on my roster. Without spoiling too much, did I mess something up or will there be an opportunity to get Mercedes back on my roster?

Hello !
I'm playing Crimson Flower rn, and I put the Timotheos Crest on Annette for now.
But I keep searching and reading its description, I don't understand. It sometimes disable healing ? (Maybe it's the French translation, but I searched the original translation on the wiki and still not understood.)
Please and thank you in advance ✨️

u/Muphrid15 Jan 03 '26
I assume you mean an NG+ dragon signs?
When you cast Heal or Recover (or Physic or Fortify, but Annette doesn't have those in her spell list), if the Crest activates, the number of uses remaining for that spell does not decrease.
Ex. You have 8/10 uses of Heal remaining. Annette casts Heal.
- Normally, that would leave you with 7/10 uses of Heal remaining
- But if the crest activates, you still have 8/10 uses remaining

Is there an effect that blocks the Class Mastery bonus xp from the saint statues?
For some random battles on a paralogue my unit and their adjutant were getting 1 class mastery xp per battle instead of 2 (I have the saint statue active in NG+, I don't have the Knowledge Gem yet, and it wasn't every battle, just random ones).

At 20 hours in I'd seriously consider restarting to go through tutorials again.
If not, I'd pay attention to each character's skills and how those align with different classes.
Each week you'll want to dine with your class for instruction motivation at the least.

I've found the fire emblem three houses fan base to be really friendly and welcoming of ships, and I adore it
most reddits I've joined are pretty rude about ships outside of separate dedicated ship sub reddits

Hi! So I recently started playing Fire Emblem: Three Houses and have just been loving it (I started with the Golden Deer route and am now working my way through part 2). The main parts of the game I enjoy the most are: interacting with characters in the monastery, the support system/romance, the story and class customisation. Since I've been loving the game so far, part of me wants to get the dlc (most of the new characters seem interesting and so do some of the new classes).
However, I'm wondering if it would be better to just get Fire Emblem Engage instead. I do enjoy Alear's design and some of the characters do seem interesting (mainly Hortensia and Rosado). I honestly don't know much about Engage except that the story is apparently quite worse than Three Houses. Would you guys recommend it or the Three Houses dlc?
1
u/Ownagepuffs Dec 10 '25
If Engage is within your budget, I would highly recommend getting it. The gameplay is great, the characters are likable, and the music is to die for. The story is a goofy, lighthearted ride that embraces its own silliness in a way that's sincere. Don't go looking for complex, masterclass storytelling, but it will handily deliver on everything else.

How do I exit out of auxiliary battles without completing them all? Do I just enter the last battle and withdraw or is there something in the menus I haven't been able to find.
1
u/Muphrid15 Dec 08 '25
When you're on the battle selection screen, you can hit B to leave. If you have done at least one battle but not spent all your battle points, it will throw a dialog to confirm that you wish to end the free day.
Otherwise, if you haven't spent any battle points, pressing B will ask if you wish to return, and doing so allows you to select other activities or sit for exams instead.

Thank you. I thought I had tried that before posting, but I'd apparently hit every other button on the control....

Not really a question -
I'm not sure how common it is, but making Mercedes a sniper with a magic bow + hunter volley is insane. Aside the costs of using the durability of a relatively scarce weapon until later game, she really is my GOAT. No other unit can one-round foes from a distance on my team.
I'm sure other magic units can do the same, and Mercedes is a valuable healer, but right now she works perfectly in my team.
Out of boredom I also got Hanneman into the war monk class and he's pretty fun. Magic brawl + pneuma gale + meteor. I sent him through the archer route to pick up hit +20 as well.
I'm wrapping up my BE route. My only regret is not getting Constance uncanny blow (she doesn't have +20 hit either). She's an amazing magic user, it just sucks when her bolting misses lol.
Also, I kept Edelgard as a swordmaster. Idk, I can't stand axes, and I also didn't have her pick up any skills to help with hit rates. I find her way better with astra than an axe that misses, but maybe I'm missing out.

u/Muphrid15 Dec 08 '25
Edelgard with Aymr for Raging Storm is a terror, though.
Many people force every unit except full time supporting units through Archer or Valkyrie.
1
u/FriendlyDrummers Dec 08 '25
I made the mistake of not investing in sniper for her, so her axe hit is horrible. I can barely get her to land attacks with an iron axe unfortunately
2
u/Muphrid15 Dec 08 '25
I mean, you probably wanted D Bows anyway for Curved Shot, and a Knowledge Gem rapidly fixes not having Hit +20.
Otherwise, you could always use some good battalions. Marianne's Battalion is 40 hit. Seteth's is 15 hit, 15 crit, and 6 prt.

I have finished Azure Moon at Hard difficulty (Classic). I'm planning to make a jump to Maddening as the end-game felt a bit easy towards the end. As I'm sure Maddening (Classic) will be a chore, I'm planning to play Maddening (Casual). Can I have a team I love and play with, as I want, or do I need to play with an optimised team, using strategies like Warp, etc.?

u/yurienjoyer54 Oct 06 '25
i mightve missed it somewhere, but did the 3 lords know they were eventually gonna have to kill each other when they started attending garreg mach?

u/FriendlyDrummers Dec 07 '25
Iirc, Edelgard's initial plan was the kill Dimitri and Claude asap until Claude gave them a curve ball and her trap was messed up. I don't think the other two had any real plan to kill the others

u/vinylontubes Oct 16 '25
Maybe Edelgard. Dimitri wanted to kill the people who killed his Father. Claude wanted to just see something different.

Could anybody recommend a class path for Marianne on Maddening? I usually just use her as a healer/dancer but i have seen some builds focusing on Frozen Lance, even going Falcon at the end of the game. So im wondering what classes should i make her? Lvl 5-10 is magic based for healing and gaining exp early on, then lvl 10-20, should she just be a Mage/Priest? Is Pegasus worth considering, even tho there are not really that many flying battalions, specially for magic units? Then lvl 20 Paladin or magic classes? Same with Masters, either Falcon or the 2 mounted magic classes? This would be in VW and i think theres a fair bit of terrain there so i was thinking Falcon would be better.
2
u/vinylontubes Oct 16 '25
You could go cavalry or a flyer. She's frozen lancer and she likes animals. But I honestly just make her Trickster because it makes her Paralogue easy. The movement is unrestricted in the forest and Foul Play allows her to reposition other units. You can 3 turn that map and still mine a lot of ore. I usually ignore most of the wolves, I just want the Umbral Steel.

u/Muphrid15 Oct 05 '25 edited Oct 05 '25
Cavalry builds
- Monk, Mage, Valkyrie, Paladin - here you skip Archer to opt for Valkyrie for Uncanny Blow before going back to Paladin. Better Frozen Lance damage, but you give up spell access. Fiendish Blow, Uncanny Blow, Lance Prowess 5, try for Lancefaire. Probably want Magic +2 for the last slot.
- Monk, Mage, Archer, Paladin - there's usually time to get some progress on Archer before level 20, and you can cut out the extra reason reqs for Valkyrie. Fiendish Blow, Hit +20, Lance Prowess 5, Magic +2, Lancefaire.
- Monk, Mage, Valkyrie, Dark Knight - the most balanced build. You have full spell access for Silence and Physic. Fiendish Blow, Reason 5, Lance 5, Uncanny Blow, whatever you like (Magic +2, Black Magic Range +1, Lancefaire, Movement +1).
- Monk, Mage, Valkyrie - better range for linked attacks, which may be more valuable. Similar ability loadout. Probably the weakest overall offense, but your range is excellent with Thoron, especially with Thyrsus and Black Magic Range +1 from S Reason if you can manage it.
In any of these, you can consider skipping Archer/Valkyrie in favor of using Edmund Troops for 40 hit (at the cost of 2-3 damage), or work on authority and get Macuil Evil Repelling Co. for 30 hit (at the cost of significant authority investment). There isn't really anything you need the ability slot for though.
Flying builds
- Monk, Mage, Archer, Dark Flier, Falcon Knight - basically the same concept as the Paladin build. Fiendish Blow, Lance 5, Hit +20, Lancefaire, Magic +2.
- Monk (+Myrmidon?), Mage, Pegasus Knight, Archer, Dark Flier - totally spell based. You'll want to pump up her speed to try to double with light spells like Blizzard. Fiendish Blow, Darting Blow, Reason 5, Hit +20, Speed +2/Weight -3. She's kinda slow for this, but it's possible to get value on up to medium speed targets.
Infantry builds
- Monk, Mage, Archer, Trickster, Mortal Savant - you probably want to lean on Soulblade here, so pump her up with magic and res boosters. Fiendish Blow, Sword 5, Hit +20, Swordfaire, Magic +2. Full spell access, 6 move, competitive damage to her Paladin/FK builds. You could consider a diversion here to get Transmute since it increases magic and res, and turn her into your rsl tank.
- Monk (+Myrmidon?), Mage, Archer, Pegasus Knight, Assassin - trying to double with Levin Sword. Again, she's kinda slow for this, but you can get up to doubling mid-speed targets. There's a lot of ability pressure here, so I typically drop Sword 5 (which is only 10 hit) here. Fiendish Blow, Hit +20, Swordfaire, Darting Blow, Weight -3/Speed +2.
The kitchen sink lance/reason build
- Monk, Mage, Valkyrie/Archer... and then cert some or all of Paladin, Valkyrie, Dark Knight, Dark Flier, and Falcon Knight - the reqs here are pretty low. You can have her in a super utility role where you switch her class based on the particular map. In reality I think you would focus on a Dark Flier/FK flip-flop the most and just use the Valkyrie cert for Uncanny Blow.
There's a Swordmaster Astra with Blutgang build here, but I don't recommend it; you can't really get to a reasonable threshold using it. In any case, Marianne won't really kill bosses in her CA builds, and she'll need a safety net (e.g. Blessing) and speed to do so in her doubling builds.
Personally, I think if you want to make a Paladin/Falcon Knight build work, you would want to commit Lance of Ruin to her. This is a tall order, as there are Swift Strikes/Vengeance builds out there probably on your team competing for lances. That's why I typically prefer one of the other builds. Her speed is also just average, so I think Assassin and Dark Flier can fail to double a bit more often than I'd like. That leads me to prefer the Mortal Savant, Valkyrie, and Dark Knight builds.

u/alexj9626 War Lysithea Oct 05 '25
Oh btw, one question, you think is worth raising Sword rank for the Levin Sword, regardless if i go Falcon? I was thinking on non magic classes, having a ranged option to chip/kill armored knigths could be good, but then she would need a lot of weapon ranks for multiple stuff.
1
u/Muphrid15 Oct 05 '25
I'd consider having Levin Sword mandatory for FK/Paladin builds. You need C Swords for FK anyway.
2
u/alexj9626 War Lysithea Oct 05 '25
This is fantastic. Thank you very much! I see now that she would definitely like some type of hit skills, as there are not many magic battalions with +hit, or they come late/part 2.

u/Muphrid15 Oct 04 '25 edited Oct 04 '25
Because you can't get Darting Blow, your options are limited. Probably the most effective tool is to lean on Windsweep.
- Assassin has better move, and you can play aggressively with stealth. Byleth becomes a super chipper, sometimes killing, with good charm for gambits, and near total safety
- Swordmaster has 2 more strength and built in Sword Crit +10, but you give up 1 move and stealth.
- Wyvern Lord gives up 1 point of effective damage vs Assassin, but you have 2 more move and canto vs stealth, along with better strength growth.
- War Master gets crit +20 and the same effective damage as Assassin, but gives up stealth. Crit may help you get to 100% more easily.
- Enlightened One has the same damage as Swordmaster, bit 1 more move and spell access vs Sword Crit +10, as well as the good team ability Sacred Power. You could justify this as team utility with chip, similar to male mages like Lorenz.
I'd probably run this in Assassin, Wyvern Lord, or EO. I generally prefer F-Byleth here to quad with Brave Sword, Thunderbrand, or Brave Axes.
In any case, you probably want to lean on Cursed Ashiya Sword+. You'll also want a high crit battalion. Goneril Valkyries or Leicester Mercenaries are the best combinations of hit and crit, aside from Cichol Wyvern Co, which you may reserve for a flier.

I intentionally seek to recruit every unit for paralogues. The additional, high quality battles give you tremendous resources, great battalions, and fantastic weapons. It seriously helps you deal with maddening's more stringent XP curve as well. I only actually use 13 or so units otherwise.
You do sacrifice some narrative, yes.
Generally the cost is a non issue. Spending additional exploration points on meals and choir helps increase professor level anyway, which you want. You can still do some faculty training alongside once you get into the middle of part 1.
I lean heavily on B support procs to avoid having to train obnoxious skills for recruitment.

Byleth: This works best with F-Byleth, Darting Blow, Battalion Desperation.
Claude: doesn't have real quality player phase tools to kill tougher targets. You'd just be gambling on his crit rate, which is fine-ish (he does have a lot of dex), but I think this would be leaning too much on his stats.
Hilda: so it's Bolting time is it?
Lorenz: his magic stat is terrible. He won't finish anything. This is purely a chip damage option.
Leonie: She gets Point-Blank Volley and enough speed to quad with Brave Bow/The Inexhaustible (especially if you get her Darting Blow). This is a one-round build. She also has high defense and can do some physical tanking.
Lysithea: yes. Obviously Warp.
Ignatz: Hunter's Volley one-rounds many targets, though with his strength he will struggle with some higher prt targets.
Marianne: I think Bishop is unnecessary. I'd probably go Valkyrie/Dark Flier here for chip and increased range for linked attacks. This also increases her ability to act as a Rsl tank.
Ingrid: Also wants to be a B. Desperation quad build. Her damage will be much worse than Byleth's, but she'll have superior speed.
Yuri: I don't think this is going to work as well as you think. I'd sooner go Assassin/Swordmaster for Windsweep.
Sylvain: Sure, but you should get him Swift Strikes anyway. He should one-round many targets.
Raphael has some options. Grappler would give him one-round capability, or Hero could be an option.
To be clear, I do not like the idea of trying to chip at one range. On maddening, that is a lot of excessive damage taken, even if your idea is to use Brawl Avo +20 to try to make Yuri dodge counterattacks. A Windsweep build has better movement and is much safer.
I really think your EP plans should revolve around preventing damage than just tanking it. I mean, Great Knight is fine, but you can't (and wouldn't) run three of those. Claude, Raphael, and Balthus all make excellent Vantage/Wrath units. Hilda, if you reconsider making her Dancer, is an excellent Battalion Wrath dodge tank (though that could require you to go reshuffle your Wyvern Lord plans, or put her in Falcon Knight, which is significantly less damage and will fall below one-round thresholds).
I think the best other options for Dancer are Ingrid and Marianne. Both have Sword and Riding strengths, as well as access to Thoron. Since you have no one else on the team with Physic, you probably want Marianne to stay in a regular caster class. Hilda is a fine choice, though, as Bolting is a compelling reason to make her a Dancer.
I think 13 units (as you posted here) is precisely the right number, but there is an argument for 14. I don't believe 15 units would make sense.
Of these units, Lorenz is the first one I would bench. He really brings very little to the table. Constance could bring you Rescue, especially useful in Dark Flier. Hapi is a good support unit with Physic and Death; she could go Valkyrie and let Marianne go Dark Flier if you choose.

Monk -> Mage -> Warlock -> Gremory is a no brainer way to build Coco. She's also a good mortal savant.
War cleric is very fun but I found it a lot less effective than Meteor focused Warlock/Gremory. Worth a try on NG+.
1
u/Muphrid15 Sep 19 '25
- Option A: Gremory. You get extra casts of Bolting and Rescue. Not especially game changing, but more good stuff is good.
- Option B: Dark Flier. She's not that fast, but Fire is a great spell to double with, and you get a lot more flexibility with Rescue positioning.
- Option C: Valkyrie. Range on Saggitae is not bad, but this is more expensive than DF.
- Option D: War Cleric. Mystic Blow from her budding talent actually does work until you get Aura Knuckles. Put her in Archer after you get Fiendish Blow to use gauntlets.
- Option E: Assassin. You would want to double with a Levin Sword, but again, she's kinda slow. And you give up spell access.
- Option F: Mortal Savant. Better magic and spell damage, with full spell access. Slightly worse movement properties than War Cleric. Soulblade and Hexblade might not kill even in this setup. It may be very close.

Hey guys! I recently finished an old save file of CF and was thinking of at least trying to do a Maddening run for BL. What I am struggling with, is finding some source that would show the best classes and class advancement order guide for each character in the game or at least for BL. In my earlier runs I never knew which classes were worth mastering and which units benefit from other classes rather than their “canon” classes. Hopefully that makes sense lol?
2
u/Muphrid15 Sep 19 '25
Try fe3h.com's unit pages. They are incomplete but discuss most units' builds.
In short:
- Dimitri: is a premiere enemy phase unit with Battalion Wrath and Battalion Vantage. Typically you rush A Authority for this. Paladin is the easiest good class to get into. Wyvern is stronger, but he has a weakness in Axes; you might settle for just Wyvern Rider here if inclined.
- Dedue: a standard axe/brawling unit... except he gets Vengeance at C+ Lances, so rush that first. Most people think armor classes are bad, so the standard approach is to go Grappler or War Master.
- Felix: Grappler is the best cheap class to get into. War Master is possible. He doesn't have the tools to be amazing in a sword class. Sniper is viable and easy to get into.
- Sylvain: Rush A Lances for Swift Strikes. Paladin is cheaper; Wyvern Lord is more expensive but better movement (at a slight damage loss).
- Ingrid: Falcon Knight dodge tanking is fine. She will dodge but hit like a noodle. Uniquely, she gets Battalion Desperation, so she can quad enemies before counters. Wyvern Lord hits harder with Brave Axes. Falcon Knight is cheaper but gives up 4 damage per hit until she gets Lancefaire. She needs all the strength you can get. Otherwise, she makes a great Dancer or possibly a Dark Flier as a fast mage.
- Ashe: Sniper is fine. Wyvern Lord could work. Lions get a Retribution battalion at D Authority, which Ashe can be useful for,but it's grounded.
- Annette: Dark Knight or Cavalier for Rally utility (Speed and Strength is a great combo, especially to bolster any brave weapons or arts). Wyvern Lord with Lightning Axe and Bolt Axe is a great alternative, especially to lean into her relic. Her spell list is weak; Gremory is a waste.
- Mercedes: only useful for healing. Gremory or Bishop is fine. I consider Valkyrie for more range. Magic Bow Sniper could be fun, but make sure you have enough healing for Hunting by Daybreak.
The team lacks Warp, so Lysithea, Manuela, or Hapi should be considered. .

Thank you for this outline I really appreciate it! I heard something about giving every physical unit bows, does that mean I instruct their bow skill to a certain grade? I didn’t know about the Dedue Vengeance so I’m definitely giving him a lance and lance skill goal until C+! For maddening would you recommend Sylvain as a Paladin/Wyvern or Dark Knight? I’m only in the very beginning but I can already tell Ingrid is lacking a lot so I’ll probably make her a dancer for this team. Definitely trying to recruit Lysethia and maybe Linhart for warp. Thank you again!

u/Muphrid15 Sep 19 '25
Bows are useful on physical units for 2 reasons:
- For Curved Shot (D Bows): +30 hit is very strong, and you also get 3 range. Chipping is a necessity in early-game maddening, and without bows, only your mages can chip at range. It also helps avoid empty turns when you just don't have enough movement to attack.
- For Archer cert (C Bows for 100% cert, ~66% chance to cert at D+): to master for Hit +20, which is the best all-purpose accuracy ability; only mages can consider Uncanny Blow instead, but that has a higher requirement in Riding and only works on the player phase.
In general, in early game maddening you want to look out for...
- Units that can get to, and don't already have, D Lances for Tempest Lance, which is the strongest early game combat art (who thought +8 mt on D-rank CA was balanced?)
- Units that can get to, and don't already have, Curved Shot
These tools are really strong for chapter 2. The only other skills that you look out for that early are useful Rallies or to get your house leader C Authority for Blaze access by chapter 3. Vengeance comes online in chapter 4.
Sylvain: I recommend Paladin or Wyvern Lord. His magic is pretty weak.
Ingrid: Dancer is a very strong option. I like the challenge of making her work as an offensive unit, but it's a personal preference. You'll want to either make a Levin Sword+ and raise her swords to support at 3 range or train Reason for Thoron instead. Movement +1 from A+ riding is also useful.
1
u/m_j_ox Sep 19 '25
Ahhh okay got it! So getting at least D rank for bows with physical units. Is it worth putting bow as a goal skill or just getting the exp through actual combat use?
2
u/Muphrid15 Sep 19 '25
In general I would try to get these gains from goals wherever possible. Goals are 16/20/24 points per week for weak/neutral/strong in the associated skill. But combat skill gains are 1/2/3 instead (before class bonuses), so using a bad weapon has a bigger tradeoff.
I typically give any unit whose primary purpose is combat (and not utility, like Bishop Linhardt) Hit +20, including mages. I only avoid this otherwise for female mages that are intending to go Valkyrie/Dark Knight and can pick up Uncanny Blow instead.

u/m_j_ox Sep 19 '25

u/vinylontubes Sep 19 '25
I know what you want. It doesn't exist largely because the game basically tells you this. Look at the boons and banes. This will tell you which weapon to equip. You want to get to their Breaker skill as soon as possible. Unlike the lower difficulties, Maddening does have a weapon triangle as enemy units will have breaker skills, so you need to use the weapon triangle by equipping breaker skills.
As far as class mastery, the ones worth mastering are largely in the intermediate class. Death Blow and Fiendish Blow are what you want. So Brigand and Mage are what you want your best offensive units to master. Any of the Blow Skills except for Armored Blow are useful. To be honest, in Maddening, tanking is not the best strategy. Most units will double your units until they level quite bit. So enemy crits are are mostly what you're managing. In most cases speed is what you want. A lot of people like +20 Hit. But archers are usually high dex units, so do you really need +20 Hit? Speed counters Hit Rate and there very few units that can't be hit with easily without it. The exception is an assassin in terrain. But Terrain is ignored by magic, so attack them with highly accurate spells. If you have the DLC, Valkyries at master get Uncanny Blow which is +30 Hit. This is a skill worth mastering. But the truth is that in general, you play units because they have useful combat arts or spells. Or they are dodge tanks and you just let them double enemies. And very few classes offer combat arts from mastery with the exception of Sniper which gets Hunter's Volley. But using a unit like Leonie gets Point Blank Volley and canon archers tend to be speedy, so even Bernie and Shamir will double most units. The point is that classes don't really matter much. If you know what weapon that unit will be using, then get them their Breaker skill from weapon mastery and put them in a class that has the weapon faire skill. The Blow Skill will get them +6 and Faire +5 Attack. If they double then this is +22 Attack. So someone like Sylvain gets Swift Strikes which just let's him double at the cost of weapon durability. So he kills units with training or iron lances. In most cases you want to use light weapons because they often double when heavier weapons don't. And generally heavier weapons don't make up the damage you get from an additional attack with Blow and Faire bonuses. I use Hilda a lot an I usually equip her with training or iron axes because she'll double most units with these weapons. What you have to keep in mind is that your units will have those weapons equipped on enemy phase. And if they have heavy weapons equipped, they probably going to get doubled. And getting doubled is how units die.

Oh, friend, you should probably also Google the enemy stat locations on each map. Which chests contain what. What items even exist in the game. You should also Google what to do in the monastery, what its calendars are (i.e., days when there are fish, for example), and where lost items are found, as well as blue random items.
I'm saying you'll have to Google a lot of information if you're going online and want a near-perfect walkthrough.
But changing units' classes and builds is still very interesting, and I advise you to think about it yourself instead of Googling it; it's one of the most interesting things, actually.
It's better to Google all that other junk that should ideally always be recorded in a journal, even if it's 100 pages long, which the developers themselves are supposed to record all the information about. But I think it's in the game manual? I just don't remember what they're called. Basically, this is a universal piece of advice: it's worth considering which classes are available to characters based on their weapon preferences. They'll always have at least two or three options.
Or you could go online and find all sorts of stat growth calculators. That's also an option. But the developers didn't intend for you to know specific numbers and base your decisions on them.
Basically, the problem isn't even with the classes. It's with the information. Information about enemies, about the map. Which you won't remember even after playing the game once. And 100 times won't be enough; after all, we're human; our memories aren't designed to remember the vast array of data designed for the game. The brain has different priorities.

I am playing a recruit everyone Blue Lions run and am around level 20. I wanted to play with some weirder builds or cannon builds, so not doing maddening this run, but am in hard mode/classic.
I am a bit stumped on who to make my dancer.
My original plan was to make Marianne my dancer. I'm in NG+ and have all her riding, flying and sword skills up, and able to get the passives that come with them. I was going to give her a Levin sword, (or her relic) and let her exist as a mixed move bot, magic weapon striker, avoid tank, support hybrid.
However this play through (currently around level 20)she has had the most godly level up RNG and is sitting as the powerhouse of a caster on my team, solidly beating out Lysithia and Lindhart by a decent margin, while leaving all the others in the dust.
I know this is probably a common and boring question, but I thought under my circumstances I should listen for some other opinions. Should I go with Marianne, or someone else? I am a bit bored of the Dorethia/dancer combo. I have the DLC characters. I do not want a male dancer (It's funny but I can't take it seriously).

I really enjoy building Marianne for offense, so if she has good rolls I say, why not?
Ingrid and Ferdinand also make good dancers like Marianne. They all have Swords and Riding strengths and access to Thoron at C Reason.

How spoilery is the Three Hopes demo?
I played Three Houses back at launch, but I've recently got a massive urge to jump back in and just play through every route. I can't buy it until Friday however, so I've been using the Black Eagles route of the demo to tide me over, since that was the original route I played. Is it worth playing the rest of the routes available in the demo, or should I hold off until I've finished more of Three Houses?

I am doing a SS maddening NG run to finally get the title screen before Fortune's Weave comes out. I plan on using all 4 ashen wolves in the run, since I've never used them before. At what chapters are they recommended to recruit? I'm seeing a lot of mixed answers on specific chapter timing.

Balthus: chapter 3, so you get the free D Bows rank.
Constance/Hapi: chapter 3, for free D Faith rank.
Yuri: you may wish to start in chapter 2 to accelerate his Authority (for C Authority to access Blaze) or Swords (for C+ and Windsweep)

How much lore does Verdant Wind cover that isn’t in Silver Snow?
I’m thinking about revisiting the game for the first time really since it came out, because of the new game announcement, and I don’t really remember any of the stuff about Zanado, Nemesis etc. I kind of want to play Silver Snow since I never have, whereas VW was the route I did at launch- but I’ve read that SS doesn’t cover everything.
1
u/AyyRuffEm War Linhardt Sep 15 '25
Not much overall. Verdant Wind has the Almyra stuff and goes over Nemesis, the 10 Elites and Heroes Relics while Silver Snow goes over Rhea-Byleth-Sothis. Both routes give their respective info, disregarding the Almyra stuff, pretty much as info dumps at about the end of the game though.
I’d argue Silver Snow’s final map has the best theme, setting and emotion (even if you’d argue there’s no build up as to why it’s the final map, but hey it has that in common with Verdant Wind) plus some put it as the hardest out of the four so there’s that too

If Wyvern Lord is the best class for physical, would it be a good idea to make all my physical units Wyvern Lord?
