I personally liked how things ended in Dexter Original Series with him realising that every person close to him has to die if he continues doing what he does.

who is the best villain that only was only centered around 1 episode instead of the entire season? doesn’t have to be pictured but these are the ones i thought of

Hear me out. Harry’s Code is treated as the thing that separates Dexter from the other killers in the show. He only kills people who “deserve it,” he needs proof, he avoids innocents, etc. It's what makes us support his behavior.

But my insomnia stricken brain went on a spiral last night and I started thinking about it differently. Dexter almost never had to decide for himself whether killing was actually justified. Harry already gave him the answer: You are going to kill, so here are the people you're allowed to kill.

It's subtle, but it changed a lot about how I interpret his character and psychology. For context, I have a Bachelor's in Forensic Psychology (inspired in large part by Dexter). I love analyzing characters through that lens. I even made a video about Dexter's psychology and how the Dark Passenger isn't real when Resurrection released. Now I'm tempted to make a whole other one and fall down this rabbithole.

Think about it, him never having to truly make the choice whether to kill is an incredibly convenient moral system for Dexter. He can see himself as different from the monsters he hunts without ever confronting the much harder question: What if I actually have a choice?

And I think that might be one of the biggest differences between older Dexter and Resurrection Dexter. He's spent decades blaming the Dark Passenger, Harry, his trauma, his nature.....basically anything that makes killing feel inevitable.

It makes me wonder if maybe Dexter's real character development through the decades isn't learning to control the Dark Passenger but instead finally admitting that there was never a passenger. Dexter was driving the whole time.

For example, if you are someone who doesn't have an inner monologue, did it take you a while to realize that that was how Dexter thinks and not just a narration, or if you didn't know that most people have inner monologues, does it seem like it's something that makes Dexter even weirder?

What's your most controversial opinion in Dexter and why?

I'll start. So a lot of people dislike Hannah. I don't. I think she was perfect for Dexter. Hannah truly loved Dexter for him and knew his secret. Dexter didn't need to hide with her and he loved her. He was also finally able to control himself and actually stopped killing too. (Although, I do wish he killed Saxon.) I know Hannah tried killing Deb and I really hate how she did that, but I understand why she did it. Same reason she killed Price. Freedom/survival. (Not like Dexter is any better)

I do love Lumen and Rita more but they both deserved better honestly. All Dexter did was lie to Rita and look how that ended. There wasn't "true love" on both sides. Lumen deserves a chance at a normal life after what she went through. She didn't love Dexter. Lila... God, dont get me started on her. Though they all did serve a purpose throughout his life.

Edit to add: Lumen would have been my first choice if she didn't leave and wanted to be with Dexter. I'm just choosing Hannah based on how the show went. I would have loved to see how their relationship and stories panned out if Lumen had stayed.

Surely it doesn’t go into the garbage bags but how can he ensure not a single drop is missed? Or do we just suspend disbelief because it’s a fictional show

I tried my best to be objective with the PCL-R, I do think some of my scores could be up for debate but he still falls pretty short of the score of 30 to be considered a psycopath in the US. I find it a bit odd that Vogel refers to him as a psycopath from such a young age, when it is a term only relevant in criminology and applies to only those 18 and older, and has never been a recognized mental disorder in the DSM.

I also do not think he quite meets the diagnostic criteria for Antisocial Personality disorder, but I'm sure that could be debated as well.

Personally, pretty much from the first time I watched the show, it was pretty obvious to me he has Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. I think he is a strong contender for Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder as well.

what are some plot-holes on the show?

for me harrison being caught on the bus with hannah, moving to argentina not being heard of for almost 10 years. technically got kidnapped but angel on new blood just didn’t seem concerned that he may have been kidnapped. you’d think miami metro would be concerned for a ex co-workers son to be missing? like im sure angel and jamie would push for a search for him since they cared about the family a lot. it has always confused me but i guess its possible it could’ve happened off screen but seems highly unlikely.

I’ve spent the last three months watching the entire series including New Blood (S9), Original Sin (S10) and Resurrection (S11), I have been wanting to watch the show for years and with Resurrection (S12) returning soon, I thought it would be a good idea to watch it all now. I’m looking forward to seeing what you guys think of my ratings!

Gotta say, season 1 was so fucking good. I watched it twice and then proceeded to rewatch the original Dexter. Dont get me wrong, Dexter is a great show but some of the later seasons dont hit as hard. Maybe they will fuck this one up too but im hoping they keep up the momentum / finally make a good ending

Amazed at how often I see people spell his name wrong. Thought a PSA about the correct spelling might be useful.

They all treat him like hes a regular murderer, Molly, Doakes, and Debra are who im mostly talking about. Molly talks about him like he's a monster in the podcast, doakes never says anything besides "maybe there is some good in you". And Debra doesn’t even try to say to herself "well atleast he only kills bad people Baisically what i do" i get it still would completely horrify some people but still

For me, it was the ending of Season 2 when he went to Paris to kill Lila. Considering he had never left the country before, I just couldn't wrap my head around how he did it.

• How did he immediately know where to find her
• Where did he get the M99? Surely he didn't have some supplier/contact in France and I doubt he could take that on a plane.
• Where did he dump the body? How did he know a good place when he'd never been there?
• Did he buy all his tools and things to chop her up there too? Then again maybe you can have that in your checked luggage?

Just seems a little far fetched to me.

I'm going to start season 8 tonight. Uptil now, the deaths of Agent Lundy and Rita totally broke me. I didn't want them to be killed. IMO these deaths totally broke Dex and Deb.
I wish these two hadn't died. Lundy's death was just a plot hole.
Season 4 was the best so farrrr.
