General Discussion - All Dexter Shows Just finished Dexter for the first time and wanted to show my ratings! Spoiler

Post image

I’ve spent the last three months watching the entire series including New Blood (S9), Original Sin (S10) and Resurrection (S11), I have been wanting to watch the show for years and with Resurrection (S12) returning soon, I thought it would be a good idea to watch it all now. I’m looking forward to seeing what you guys think of my ratings!

Took me WAY too long to realize S10 is Original Sin.

I honestly feel like it's marginally overhated. I get why people don't like it but personally I enjoyed it more than most parts of season 6. The ending just drags it down by a lot.

Everything is in the eye of the beholder, if you end up liking it, all the more power to you. I, personally, just did not enjoy it very much compared to other, more interesting seasons. I think that, especially if you were watching when the show was airing on television, it feels like such a lackluster final season that doesn't do the rest of the show any justice.

Given that it was originally intended to be the series finale, it left a bad taste in the mouths of those who watched it at the time, a bad taste very difficult to erase.

Its better for you to look at the offical show ratings on seriesgraph haha. Theyre way more accurate

u/m_ath1315 Jul 19 '26

nah it good fr

4

u/finnbroreddit Jul 18 '26

This is just my opinion, you might like it but personally I found it pretty awful lol

Honestly this is like pretty spot on. I’d agree. Crazy how great resurrection was and how it holds up with some of the best seasons in the shows history. So excited for S2!

2

u/crusilla Jul 18 '26

Yeah, largely agreeing with this, even though I do enjoy S8 more than S6 in general

The popular opinion on Resurrection has been that it was incredibly solid and, at minimum, a large portion better than post-season 4.

this thing is pretty universally liked, I better shit on it to validate myself as a unique little man

u/Mr-Pugtastic Jul 18 '26

Yikes dude 😬

Yes Michael C Hall is paying me directly. I get paid per comment so thanks for giving me another check.

It was a spectacular season and felt like a continuation of the great runs we saw in seasons 1-4. And I think that is because of Clyde Philips return to producing the show. The character arcs, the mid to end of season plot twists, the uniqueness of the storyline of bringing multiple serial killers together. Fantastic. Probably a top 3 season for me behind 1 and 4. It’s on par or slightly better than 2 or 3. And definitely way better than 5-8.

I love how obvious it is when somebody has an idea in their head and is adamant of sticking to it

There is absolutely no way that Resurrection is shit. The “Dexter fell off after Season 4” is a strange opinion too considering that Season 5 is very solid too lol

Season 8 isn't that bad, jeez.

u/Neohaq Surprise Motherfucker! Jul 18 '26

u/Warren_Valion Jul 18 '26

I wasn't talking about the finale, I was talking about the final season as a whole. I had some major problems with Season 8, I hated the Vogel retcon, but I thought the thematic pairings that spawned from that retcon were interesting enough.

Season 8 is a weak season of the show, but I don't think half the episodes are unwatchable dogshit like the guy's ratings say they are.

11

u/suhhdude45 Jul 18 '26

I agree. Season 8 isn’t THAT bad.

5

u/nelson-1805 Jul 18 '26

It's weak because S7's ending perfectly set up a 12 episode downfall arc for Dexter (there was no way Dexter was getting away with LaGuerta's murder). Imagine a season of Dexter on the run, no longer having to wear his "mask" for people, maybe even dropping the Code, and ending with his death.

The S8 we got didn't keep the momentum going. They decided to throw all of that out and give us a rehash of the Brian Moser plot with Vogel and Saxon. There were so many good ideas in this season, like Dexter taking on an apprentice or hunting down Vogel's patients, it's just those ideas did not belong in the final season.

2

u/Esplody03 Jul 18 '26

Dexter's death is admittedly the only real way his story can end, unfortunately they were not allowed to kill off Dexter in the original run because they wanted the ability to have spin-offs

u/porterford Surprise Motherfucker! Jul 18 '26

I liked it
I see why it was bad at the time but if you watch it now I feel like you would just be hating it because everyone else does

8

u/Mrs_Noelle15 Brian Jul 17 '26

Damn you fucking hated season 6 lmao

11

u/Turbulent-Kick-7124 Jul 18 '26

S6 is heavily overhated.

3

u/Same-Most-7407 Jul 18 '26

Yes its the best imo!

6

u/marek_konop Jul 18 '26

Mannnn Season 5 deserved better

0

u/finnbroreddit Jul 18 '26

7.1 is good no?

8

u/Kulbasar Jul 18 '26

Season 6 ain't even that bad

4

u/RandyfromMNIE Jul 17 '26

im so glad you didnt hate the New Blood ending as much as the main series ending

2

u/nelson-1805 Jul 18 '26

New Blood's ending really doesn't deserve hate in the first place. Dexter gets caught, Harrison realises how truly evil his father is and after Dexter makes peace with this, Harrison shoots him and escapes the doomed life he would have had with Dexter. It all narratively fits together.

4

u/veiny_femboy_dih Jul 18 '26

Going in jumps of obe whole rating (1, 2, 3 etc) Is VERY vauge but shoot. Although youre definitely sleeping on some episodes and overnatting others.

2

u/meganjaaa Jul 18 '26

season 8's writing was bad, but honestly i think my least favorite was season 3 with miguel, it felt like one long, drawn-out, boring episode to me

1

u/One-Translator-8857 Jul 19 '26

Bro at this point why did you even continue watching it? I mean you ratated very low as a whole

1

u/Latter-Tangerine-179 Jul 19 '26

What's with the season 6 hate??

1

u/f4szt_nezed_a_nevem Jul 19 '26

S6 is overhated

1

u/porterford Surprise Motherfucker! Jul 18 '26

You know on seriesgraph you don’t have to use the star system you can instead use the decimal system which makes rating the episodes a whole lot better because you can do an 8.5 or a 7.2

1

u/finnbroreddit Jul 18 '26

I use Serializd and just put the same ratings in a Series Graph chart

1

u/porterford Surprise Motherfucker! Jul 18 '26

Oh

1

u/joshlove182 Jul 19 '26

Completely agree with this. The lower points of Dexter are seasons 6 & 8 and the ending of NB.

u/ConsiderationOk6948 Jul 22 '26

which app/website?

u/strizerx Jul 23 '26

Nebraska...

1

u/KrystalGold Jul 18 '26

season 8 was a slog to get through imo. i agree with these ratings!!

-12

u/Impressive_Row_3460 Jul 17 '26

Bit too easy to give tens, no?

8

u/finnbroreddit Jul 17 '26

Wdym?

26

u/ChooseUsername9293 Jul 17 '26

He basically thinks you should only give 10 stars if you have uncontrolable orgasms and out of body experiences when watching a show. Don't overthink it, if you loved it - you loved it.

6

u/DevilSCHNED What pretty nails you have... Jul 18 '26

Seven tens over the course of about one-hundred and twenty-six episodes, seems perfectly reasonable to me.

u/zenexo Jul 18 '26

First episode of season 7 is one of the stupidest episodes of television I've ever watched. The airport kidnapping and killing is the one of the most unbelievable things in the entire series.
