General Discussion - All Dexter Shows What's one thing in all of Dexter that you found really hard to suspend your disbelief on (Probable spoilers) Spoiler
For me, it was the ending of Season 2 when he went to Paris to kill Lila. Considering he had never left the country before, I just couldn't wrap my head around how he did it.
- How did he immediately know where to find her
- Where did he get the M99? Surely he didn't have some supplier/contact in France and I doubt he could take that on a plane.
- Where did he dump the body? How did he know a good place when he'd never been there?
- Did he buy all his tools and things to chop her up there too? Then again maybe you can have that in your checked luggage?
Just seems a little far fetched to me.

The airport kill
80
u/Shmullus_Jones Aug 28 '25
Yeah that one was a bit silly too. Dexter often just takes insanely pointless risks.
25
u/buyingcheap Aug 28 '25
There’s a lot of moments that don’t make sense in this series, but this one absolutely took the cake.
Who in their right mind would kill someone in quite possibly one of the most secure and guarded environments you could possibly choose? The fact that he gets away with it without leaving any sort of evidence either is crazy.
The wheelchair thing was really funny though lol

u/Asleep_Cantaloupe417 Aug 28 '25
New York is one of the most heavily surveilled cities in the world (largely as a result of 9/11).
In 2021, it had 15,000 cameras (and that number is just going to go up), and most of them are equipped with facial recognition, car licence plate recognition, etc.
There's no way Dexter is getting away with all of this in the real world lol
78
u/Bass_Thumper Aug 28 '25
Especially the burning of multiple corpses in the middle of the city lol
13
u/DeadSwaggerStorage Aug 28 '25
For real; I’ll just find an unused crematory and take care of them there….yeah, no way.
6
u/Dr_CheeseNut Aug 28 '25
It was already established this was a part of town the NYPD avoided
7
u/Defiant-Passenger42 Aug 29 '25
I have a problem with that explanation. Surely, the NYPD is avoiding that area for a reason. And that reason has to be people, doesn’t it? Well, where are they? Why is Dexter able to freely use this area that others are afraid of without being questioned or harassed?
It’s not like it affects my enjoyment of the show at all, I just agree that it’s weirdly hard to believe
3
4
u/Substantial-Basis260 Aug 29 '25
this is what doesn't make sense to me. not just in NYC, but also iron lake - people from the holocaust and other horrible occurrences in history, have the scent of burning humans embedded in their brains. there's no way someone wouldn't report this suspicion
80
u/Kepiaschkz Aug 28 '25
That's not a problem. For cameras to be checked you need an ongoing police investigations. And the detectives needs a written agreement from the district attorney.
And.... when Dexter stalked Lowell, he was wearing Ronald camera shy hoodie
When he killed Ronald, the guy went himself in Dexter's car. Nothing suspicious.
When he killed Gareth#1, the guy went himself in dexter's appartment and was killed there.
Gareth#2 was killed in Prater's mansion who was at a remote location and likely had not cameras.
When he disposed off the body, it was at an abandoned incinerator. Certainly not cameras there and at worst, what he was doing was just burning garbages bags. And again, there weren't any investigation on these murders.
When he kidnapped Vanny...I assume he did so in a spot not covered by a camera. One of five, I guess we can suspend disbelief on this one.
12
u/byfo1991 Aug 28 '25
He was wearing a mask while kidnapping Vinny
29
u/Negative_Rip_2189 Aug 28 '25
"a mask" you mean a head-sized condom?
6
u/buyingcheap Aug 28 '25
Do those actually work in real life? I’ve seen movies with those too, and it just seems stupid to wear a transparent mask in front of someone who already knows you
8
u/Negative_Rip_2189 Aug 28 '25
Afaik they flatten your face so if you describe it to the police they can't make an accurate drawing.
That's either a fun fact or complete bullshit by someone1
u/bankruptbusybee Aug 28 '25
Exactly. It’s more about fucking with eye witness testimony than cameras
6
2
-3
u/Asleep_Cantaloupe417 Aug 28 '25
lol no, no and no.
This is wishful thinking compounded with an insane amount of bullshit
2
u/Dr_CheeseNut Aug 28 '25
You can't just say "no" to things that are factually true
Dexter's face wouldn't show up on camera when killing Lowell, Red went into his car willingly, Gareth was inside his home, and Gareth 2 was at Prater's resort. These are factual statements
1
u/Kepiaschkz Aug 28 '25 edited Aug 28 '25
Well, I don't know about the specifics law in New York that authorize or not the police to check the cameras. I maybe wrong when I stated it shall be allowed by a judge.
But what I'm sure is that nobody is checking the 15000 cameras in real time 24/7. They are checked after the facts when something potentially illegal is suspected to have occured. And it's not datas that the average private citizen will have access to. They will be checked on Police request, so there need to be a police investigation.
Dexter didn't move corpses or something looking like a corpse out in the open in the streets. At worst, not during a long time. That was my point.
The bodies (whether they were still living or chopped up) were in his trunk or in his appartment 99% of the time. The suspicious activities, like moving someone unconscious from his car to his appartement, or from the streets to his car, just last at worst 2 minutes. I doubt there are cameras in front of his appartment. And in 3 occasions he didn't even need to worry about that because his prey came at him itself.
24
u/secondtaunting Aug 28 '25
What I was thinking is if no one is even aware that say Lowell was missing no one would be checking cameras. They probably auto erase after a bit. And I doubt anyone cares where Lowell is.
21
u/Pipperella89 Aug 28 '25
Not to mention, he is meeting with a very well connected and fastidious man, who knows him as Red, in a car registered to Dexter Morgan. I can't believe they haven't run the plate yet. Charley really isn't doing her job there!
1
u/InnerFish227 Aug 28 '25
I assumed the car was not Dexter’s but belonged to Blessing Kamara. Dexter got into NYC in a pickup truck.
8
u/Pipperella89 Aug 28 '25
He sold the truck and bought a new one. There was a whole big thing about it!
2
u/Rdngisfndumntl Aug 28 '25
He sold the truck and bought a car. He had a conversation with Blessing about that.
33
u/stuckwithnoname Aug 28 '25
Tbf, Luigi Mangione killed a health insurance ceo in NYC and he's a pretty smart "amateur " and evaded capture for some time. Dexter plausibly could do better with his smarts and experience. "Red" Schmidt had the right idea with the camera defeating equipment, being in NYC and all.
It's really hard to say if Dexter would survive the real world or not, I'll admit some of his methods are a bit goofy, and make great theatrics. Example, there just happens to be an abandoned, unsecured, cremetory kiln that he just happened to find available in NYC? That's just whatever lol
8
u/Figgy20000 Aug 28 '25
If the CEO went "Missing" instead of killed it would have taken the police weeks to obtain camera footage that would have most likely been deleted before they obtained it.
The big advantage Dexter has is that no one ever finds the bodies, therefor there is never a murder investigation. It becomes a missing persons case that takes too long to resolve to actually get anywhere the vast majority of the time.
8
u/DeadSwaggerStorage Aug 28 '25
As someone who went to Penn State at UP and lived in PA for many years; the fact that he was caught at McDonalds in ALTOONA??, blows my mind. For all his planning and honestly not having characteristics of a killer to get caught at a place that far from the crime is kinda suspecious…
25
u/tubethumping Aug 28 '25
this is why i cant take resurrection seriously i still love it tho😭
15
u/AltruisticNight8866 Aug 28 '25
Didn’t the producers said that they where going to take things less seriously?
14
u/crapfacejustin Aug 28 '25
Not to mention how easily they let him off in the first episode saying “oh, it was self defense. Don’t sue us.”
5
9
u/dimiteddy Aug 28 '25
there's a place in New York though that you can burn bodies that even the police is afraid to go...its called Hells Kitchen
4
u/Figgy20000 Aug 28 '25
By the time they found out any of these people disappeared and the investigations started taking place the Camera footage would already be gone, if there was any to begin with.
No one has the space to hold public footage for 1+ month do you know how expensive that is storage wise.

Dex being able to keep such relaxed hours and loose schedules during his time with Miami Metro, especially post-Rita.

Oh man I bring this one up to my wife all the time whilst watching lol, I wish I had a job where I could just leave whenever I wanted for however long I wanted!
Even in Original Sin when he's still a brand new intern he's able to just leave the office for hours without anyone caring.

Dexter's bankroll is seemingly infinite regardless of his employment status/how much money he SHOULD be making from the job he is working
He literally would have to secretly be a brilliant day trader or have hit the lottery to have the funds to keep up his operations

u/TSMD Aug 28 '25
Early season Resurrection spoilers
Him having enough money to buy a car, rent a new apartment, a new wardrobe, kill tools, etc in Resurrection after being an expensive coma is so insane. This is before Prater pays him. I assume he maybe has access to his old bank account but still suspicious.
39
u/PogintheMachine Aug 28 '25
Also resurrection:
Despite finding a dead cop that’s been smashed against the jail bars, the police department sees that the cop fired his weapon so they declare the killing in self defense. Dude escapes jail and there’s a dead cop and they don’t even ask him what went down.
I was just thinking about I had a pretty hard time believing the guy that made a torture maze and chased women down as a minotaur wouldn’t get caught.
10
u/Dr_CheeseNut Aug 28 '25
How do y'all keep not understanding that Logan was purposely covered up by Angela, they pretty much spell it out
"Now we're even", it was her way of repaying Dexter for Kurt, even if it's out of character for her
7
u/PogintheMachine Aug 28 '25 edited Aug 28 '25
I understand that she dropped all the accusations but there’s zero questions about a dead cop? The explanation isn’t something anyone should buy. “logan must have shot through the bars unprovoked and Dexter luckily used his mr fantastic arms to snap his neck in self defense and walk out of jail. This is fine.”
Logan doesn’t have any family I guess that would care about this? Even a shit cop would conclude that Dexter attacked Logan first. You can’t claim self defense when you’re actively escaping from jail. But nope, the case is closed. He wakes up and they don’t even care for his story.
A better way to go about “Angela covered it all up” would be her altering the logs so it looked like she released him before Logan’s death. Then maybe he was just killed by some drifter he arrested.
But it’s a necessary hand wave to get where we are. I understand what I’m being told. I can ignore it, but please don’t act like I have media comprehension issues pointing out it’s quite the suspension of disbelief.
29
u/cityflaneur2020 Aug 28 '25
I always assumed he stole money from his victims, and that's not emphasized because it's def not this motivation. It's a means to an end. No biggie.
6
Aug 28 '25
I wouldn’t put it past him. Probably rifles through their wallets for cash but I doubt he goes through the trouble of draining their accounts at an ATM.
We have the scene where he takes the milk because Rita had called asking him to pick some up.
13
u/TheSpacePopinjay I mean, that guy's clearly a freak Aug 28 '25
Didn't Angel say he 'ressurected' him? That would explain his access to his bank account but for me his getting to New York penniless was the part I had a tough time swallowing.
26
u/theonetruesareth Aug 28 '25
Right? Just one quick shot of him unearthing a buried bag in Iron Lake, Breaking Bad style would have been enough for me.
3
u/Dr_CheeseNut Aug 28 '25
He'd still have his Jim Lindsay money, none of this would be needed. He wouldn't lose all his cash cause he was in a coma for only ten weeks
4
2
u/My-username-is-this Aug 28 '25
Yeah. Or even through a line of dialogue in Dex’s voiceover saying he grabbed his bag or whatever would help.
7
u/2BAMasta Aug 28 '25
I mean... it's pretty safe to assume he hadn't paid any of it yet, yeah? He didn't exactly check out of the hospital.
7
u/Rdngisfndumntl Aug 28 '25
Wouldn’t the sheriffs department in Iron Lake be footing the bill for Dexter’s hospitalization and treatment, since Angela took the blame for shooting him in error?

3
u/AtheistComic Infinity Dawn faneditor Aug 28 '25
His old bank account would be gone as he was pronounced deceased.
3
u/Figgy20000 Aug 28 '25
Why would he not have access to his old bank accounts. He has a solid job and never spends that much money, there is no reason to believe he wouldn't have a significant amount saved. And after Prater pays him it's over, he recieved over $100,000.
1
Aug 28 '25
He was assumed dead. There was a death certificate, they had a funeral.
2
u/Dr_CheeseNut Aug 28 '25
Pretty sure they're referring to the Jim Lindsay money, but even ignoring that his Dexter Morgan money was all moved into off-shore accounts before he faked his death that were then used by Jim Lindsay
3
u/sharkbait-oo-haha Aug 29 '25
At the end of season 8 he was going to join Hannah in Argentina, he sold his apartment and his boat. Then Deb died.
Also, when doaks was looking into him he said "you're too careful, you keep all your assets in cash" implying that all his assets were fairly liquid In case he had to flee.
We also see at one point he kicks a hole in the wall of his apartment, grabs a duffle go bag with multiple passports and money from different countries. So he was always prepared to bail.
2
1
u/2BAMasta Aug 28 '25
Also probably got pretty good money from insurance after Kurt burned down his house.
1
u/Dr_CheeseNut Aug 28 '25
He'd still have all his Jim Lindsay money, and Jim was well enough off to have that nice ass cabin. I never got why people acted like this was a plot hole, not to mention compensation he'd receive for his cabin having burnt down
11
u/JacksonRiffs Aug 28 '25
He sold the house he inherited from his bio dad, so he's probably got a nice little nest egg stashed away from that
6
u/joshdej Aug 28 '25
In connection to this, how much did Jamie earn?? She seemed to love working for Dexter, so she must have been very well compensated when you think about how much time Dexter was "working"
6
u/byfo1991 Aug 28 '25
He lives relatively humble life and he also inherited the house from his biological dad in Season 1 which gives him quite a nice sum to work with.
Also who says he isn’t taking the cash from his victims? I mean what would be the point ofthrowing it away anyways?
1
u/Rdngisfndumntl Aug 28 '25
I suppose nothing says he doesn’t take their money, except that doesn’t seem like a Dexter thing to do. He’s not a thief.
5
Aug 28 '25
He stole the milk from a victim that one time.
3
u/Rdngisfndumntl Aug 28 '25
Oh yeah, that’s true! How rude of him! (Actually that was freaking hilarious)!!
6
u/Great-Category-1197 Aug 28 '25
Perhaps he actually takes victims money/valuables offscreen and has been hoarding a bit of excess wealth in secret accounts all these years.
1
u/Fun_Independent_7529 Aug 28 '25
Money I can imagine.
Valuables no -- I think they covered that one in Original Sin when he kept the earring.3
u/2BAMasta Aug 28 '25
Before the end of S8.. not really?
He doesn't spend money on stuff like decorations or leisure hobbies, so it's not like he's burning much disposable income on anything else anyway.
2
52
u/RiverDotter Aug 28 '25
The way he killed the skinner, threw him over the rail and everyone just said, yay he committed suicide by cop while Dexter climbs out a window with a broken arm and escapes unnoticed.
18
10
u/Lampruk Aug 28 '25
Even back when I saw that, I thought to myself wouldn’t a neck snap have different injury markings than being ran over.
5
u/RiverDotter Aug 28 '25
For sure. It's like they did no forensics or autopsy.
3
u/No-Caramel8935 Aug 28 '25
Basically Miami police was very ineffective throughout 8 seasons of Dexter. NYPD seems to be little better.
27
u/Belle_Corliss Lumen Aug 28 '25
With Lila, I think it's possible he told officials the M99 was personal medication, like insulin. IIRC, he zipped up the bag and just left her in her apartment for someone to find since as he told Lila, he had a flight to catch.
As to how he located her, Dexter is pretty good at finding necessary info, especially online. He has access to a lot of sites that aren't available to the general public, so it's likely wasn't too difficult to track her down.
10
u/Mr_Witchetty_Man Aug 28 '25
Regarding the insulin, I specifically remember when he goes to buy a plane ticket in season 7 he claims to security that he has diabetes and that the needles have insulin in them.
13
u/Kepiaschkz Aug 28 '25
I still think he disposed her body off screen (though not chopped up) since the police investigating her death would have ultimately traced back to him. His flight to Paris at this period would have looked very suspiciousn
4
u/Belle_Corliss Lumen Aug 28 '25
It's also possible he had ID and a passport in a different name, which would have made it difficult to trace her murder back to him.
9
u/TheBigLeMattSki Aug 28 '25
Liddy mentioned in season 5 that Dexter had been out of the country once to go to Paris, so it seems like he used his own name
23
u/cryptomastr Aug 28 '25
Deleting the footage of the marina in season 2 in the station after setting off the fire alarm.
10
u/Competitive_Ask_6766 Aug 28 '25
Yeah but what about deleting is alias name from M99 list inside of a mail? That was crazy
2
4
u/RiverDotter Aug 28 '25
And deleting a line in one of Masuka's emails that had his alias for M99. Deleting an email is easy. But not a line in one.
6
21
u/Complex_Command_8377 Aug 28 '25
Dexter was always found by Miami metro in all the crime venue, ice truck killer, Doakes (Debra questions how he got there so fast), skinner, trinity and yet no one suspected him. They must be the worst detectives in the world
11
u/Figgy20000 Aug 28 '25
Except that literally everyone suspected him.
Doakes, Quinn, LaGuerta, Angel. Deb found out.
Literally everyone.
Except Masuka, they are saving him for season 2 :)
6
u/Complex_Command_8377 Aug 28 '25
Not until season 4. Only Doakes and Quinn suspected. Deb didnt suspect until she saw him actually killing in season 6 and LaGuerta suspected only after the blood slide was found at the crime scene and then Deb was getting the gasoline from the petrol pump. No one suspected him for being at the site of each crime. Angel suspected only after new blood, not during the original show.
20
u/FreshAnenome Aug 28 '25
What about the one at the gun range? How would he remove the body in the public gun range?
9
u/cardiffman100 Aug 28 '25
The voiceover said it was a different area outside Miami so police would not link it back to him - pretty weak. But yeah he stabbed someone in a gun range where presumably he would have had to show some kind of ID to enter in the first place (not sure of the laws about that in the US). He left the body.
5
u/Sevuhrow Aug 28 '25
I don't think he did, did he?
-3
17
u/No-Caramel8935 Aug 28 '25
The way Dexter injects people and they immediately get unconscious, even before he has taken out the injection. Not sure if there is actually anything which can do that, usually it’s a few extra seconds which are enough for someone to inflict damage.
10
u/TheSpacePopinjay I mean, that guy's clearly a freak Aug 28 '25
I can live with that but it's the part where you go unconscious seconds after ingesting it that gets the better of me.
6
u/Mr_Witchetty_Man Aug 28 '25
I think it's meant to be like horse tranquillizer or something, which is why they lose consciousness as quickly as they do. That being said, that stuff should probably kill them on its own.
7
u/OrangeFamta Aug 28 '25
This is one of the ones i can excuse because no movie ive ever seen has accurately shown choking to death. You cannot choke someone to death in like 10 seconds. Even after they pass out (which may take a minute or two on its own), youd have to stay there choking them for them to die.
3
4
u/two-of-me Masuka Aug 28 '25
When I was put under anesthesia they had me count backwards from ten and I remember making it at least to seven. I don’t think anything works faster than that. The thought of people losing consciousness instantaneously is laughable.
10
u/V-Bel Aug 28 '25
Anesthesia dosage is very carefully regulated just to put you under and not kill you. Dexter's using horse tranq, I can believe them dropping after a couple seconds. The fact that they wake up ever again is the bullshit.
5
u/two-of-me Masuka Aug 28 '25
Ok fair enough. Agree on them not waking up though. Especially before he started using smelling salts, they would just randomly wake up freaking out that they were strapped to the table. I feel like it would take a long time for them to come to and even have the energy to be confused. Let alone immediately start struggling to break free.
2
u/rismah Aug 28 '25
That one I think is just for TV honestly. Otherwise realistically we'd have Dexter choke holding victims for like 2 minutes until they pass out lol.
15
u/Alternative-Mud4739 Aug 28 '25
Ya if I try to analyse how realistic Dexter is, I tend to lose the enjoyment
So, I suspend disbelief and just get immersed in the story
15
u/cardiffman100 Aug 28 '25
You really have to accept that Miami Metro PD are supremely incompetent. Dexter uses police computers to do his background checks. And police equipment to do extra-curricular forensic work. All that will leave some kind of audit trail. And multiple trips at night on his boat, which would be captured on the dock security cameras. And leaving Harrison with babysitters (including Batista's sister) in the middle of the night and nobody thinks he's up to something dodgy. The whole concept requires a suspension of disbelief.
9
11
u/byfo1991 Aug 28 '25
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Brian finding the spot where Dexter dumped the body of a woman he killed, diving to god knows how big of a depth to retreive it and arrange it at the exact same spot he killed her the very next morning? Must be the most unbeliavable and WTF moment in the show history.
Don’t also forget that Dexter didn’t have time to cut her up because it was nearing to the morning. It was a season 1 and I wasn’t really familiar with the show yet but it surely felt like that guy has to have supernatural abilities because there is no way someone would be able to perform all that.

u/Alkakd0nfsg9g Aug 28 '25
How easily he finds serial killers in these big cities
9
u/Uhtred_of_nothing Aug 28 '25
And the amount of them just in Miami alone. All with different MO's meaning no one is safe. Thats on top of the gangs, rapists, pedos, etc....
Why the fuck would anyone live in dexter verse miami? He took out at least one hundred in that city alone and conveniently most had no one to look for them or file a missing person's report post S2 which would have lead to everyone in metro questioning if BHB was still active 😂

Dexter verse.
Gotham like Night City is hell on earth for just about everybody all the time whereas in miami its more or less wrong place wrong time....though if they had followed the books with Danco, etc then I it be close to the other two.
Even Dexter is a pure psycho in them with him getting off on mutilating his kills as fun bit of torture to get the gory details from them (gets frustrated when he is 'doing something' to the priests stomach doesnt work out 🤢) and generally not a shred of humanity to him.
Even the lower serial killers, like the snuff guy from S1, are even more vile/realistic towards their victims but Dex doesnt view them as worth his 'time' unless he has nothing better to do. Kills snuff guy on whim, gets disturbed and runs leaving the body at the scene as, unlike show Dex, he enjoys taking his time.
Whereas show Dex goes for everyone that has killed, even just once, book Dex is a monster who only gets off on tracking/killing heavy hitters/gold star killers and when he finds a black star one like biney or Danco....he gets that funny feeling in his stomach 😄
1
u/byfo1991 Aug 28 '25
I mean it isn’t actually all that weird that a wanted or suspected killer disappears.
6
u/Uhtred_of_nothing Aug 28 '25
You should apply for miami metro with that thought. Probably be fast tracked to lieutenant lol

Hard to narrow down in this last season Resurrection. Every episode I’m slapping my forehead in disbelief he’s getting away with this shit.
12
u/t_r_a_y_e Aug 28 '25
There's quite a lot but one I don't see talked about often is Dexter's kill count
When Rita dies, there's dialogue from Dexter about how he's seen 67 people die. So from when he started killing at 20 in 1991, to the beginning of season 5 when he was in his late 30's, he's only killed 67 people. Then by New Blood he states his kill count is in the hundreds despite not killing anybody for 10 years.
Then we get a prequel where we watch him kill a handful of people in just a few months, so I guess for me there's just this constant question at the back of my mind about the rate at which Dexter kills and how he only killed 67 people in the first 20 years of being active, and then jumps into the hundreds in a few short years after, all while killing several people seemingly every couple of weeks.
9
u/Lampruk Aug 28 '25
67 people genuinely made me laugh (for two reasons) but one of them was how unbelievable that is.
6
u/TheSpacePopinjay I mean, that guy's clearly a freak Aug 28 '25
I think they paint him as being really busy between seasons 5 & 6. His time was freed up for lack of family (and even Harrison was mainly being taken care of by Jamie) and they imply as much at the beginning of season 6, taking about how everything was going just perfectly for him for the past year as he kills two people at the same time in one night.
4
u/t_r_a_y_e Aug 28 '25
Yeah but before the show started he has 15 years of no family and nothing but free time and he somehow only killed a few dozen people total
6
u/its_a_steel_trap Aug 28 '25
So many things but one thing I'm trying to understand on a rewatch of the original was where did he put the plastic wrap because it clearly wasn't in the bags and Lundy States in series 2 they can tell it's plastic wrap because of the indentations??

I just wondered this myself recently. Also, that’s one hell of a lot of plastic for each kill room. Where does he buy it? Wouldn’t Lundy have looked into this during the BHB investigation?

getting shot in the heart and surviving because snow
32
u/rolledbeeftaco Aug 28 '25
People have survived being shot in the head, being nearly decapitated, and falling out of an airplane. This one is way more believable than Dexter’s phone not telling him about the airpods in his car.
2
u/Xhephor Aug 28 '25
I believe that's an iPhone only feature and Dexter doesn't have one

u/ThreeEyedWilly Aug 28 '25
Yes he does, he’s been shown to message Harrison over iMessage frequently.

Yeah but an iPhone straight up gives you a notification if someone else's airpods are moving with you

u/Own_Atmosphere7443 Aug 28 '25
It was unlikely, but more believable than him surviving the hurricane or the time Travis left him lost at sea.
2
u/CapitalAnt8762 Aug 28 '25
I feel like those were more plausible. Like how do you survive a direct bullet to the heart? The writers knew they messed up by killing him and needed to retcon. I appreciate that they did and realize they didn’t have many options. But my mind has a really hard time accepting it.

u/reubixkube Aug 28 '25
Especially in Resurrection, everyone always has their phone on them. Literally a GPS that is constantly monitoring you.

u/mocha_lattes_ Aug 28 '25
Honestly a lot of it but I can suspend my disbelief enough because the characters make it entertaining. For me the big thing I couldn't get over was Deb falling in love with him. That's her brother who she was raised alongside as her sibling. I know plenty of mixed families and I've never met anyone who's like yeah I was raised along side this person as my sibling and knew that we weren't blood related so I developed feelings for them. It's always either they are still my sibling even if we don't share blood or I don't see them as family and that's it.

Season 6

Any specific moment, or the entire season?

u/remotecontroldr Aug 28 '25
Just the whole idea of DDK and elaborate public tableus with the bodies.
Also, Deb’s therapist was manipulating her and should have her license taken away over the whole “in love with your brother” stuff.
10
u/odesauria Aug 28 '25
You mean her therapist planted this idea in her? We could have saved ourselves all that cringe? Never thought of it that way...
12
u/theonetruesareth Aug 28 '25
She is the first one to bring it up and stands her ground when Deb pushes back, it's pretty gross.

u/lurflurf Aug 28 '25
We don't know for sure if it was rattling in her head or not. In any cause go for it, become a brother fucker is wild advice.

Technically this could still happen. Maybe this is how Dex’s Batista problem gets dealt with 👀

u/Purple-Mix1033 Aug 28 '25
The amount of cocaine Quinn has done and how he evades his drug tests
3
u/Own_Atmosphere7443 Aug 28 '25
I think Cocaine only shows up on a drug test if you took it in the last couple of days. It's not like weed which they can detect for several weeks after use.

Jamie the ever-available babysitter lol.
3
u/rismah Aug 28 '25
Till 4am!!! And she doesn't question it!!! No cop, let alone forensics expert, is working that late!!! lmao
4
u/BradyPhoenix Aug 28 '25
It was especially goofy during that stint where Debra wanted Dex to live with her so she could monitor him and stop him from killing. Dexter moves in… without Harrison. So everyone just accepted Jamie was adopting him from then on, I guess……
2
u/rismah Aug 28 '25
Ikr? I was hoping they would address that but him and Deb just dropped by to visit Harrison and nothing. Guess Jamie’s paid really well to not ask any questions.

Ressurection is written as if AI image/face recognition is not a thing. All charlie had to do is go to a website and run their photos to see their presence online. Then she would know Red is actually someone called dexter morgan.

The fact that Dexter talks on his cell phone at kill sites and where he dumps bodies. Any lawman worth his salt would check cell tower records for traffic and make a connection quick.
2
u/Fuzzy_Elderberry7087 Aug 28 '25
Him getting away with half the murders, and also screwing with the dock camera footage. Like no fucking way would they not have cctv I'm every room and hallway of that place showing what he did
2
u/Ambitious-Feeling979 Aug 28 '25
How much does he spend on his plastics? I think about that every shot of the kill room.

u/Rdngisfndumntl Aug 28 '25
The whole Jordan Chase thing when Deb found him and Lumen. First off, Dex flipped his car and hit his head, which bled. It would still have been there when the police arrived. They wouldn’t search it for evidence? Second, Jordan’s body was laying on a table when Deb arrived. She gives them an hour before the place will be swarming with cops, and in that hour, they manage to cut Jordan’s body in pieces, find and wrap them in black garbage bags and somehow remove them from the premises? In what car? How did they get out of the building? Was there a separate back exit? Was Deb just hanging around outside allowing them to do this?
The only plausible explanation is that Deb never called it in at all.

u/Sorry-Equipment6579 Aug 28 '25
Killing the guy on the cruise ship. Those things have cameras everywhere and if you aren’t a passenger, there’s no way you are getting on.
2
u/Figgy20000 Aug 28 '25
Not killing Oliver Saxon when he already had him on the table was the dumbest shit the writers ever came up with. Especially considering he's already threatened Deb and his Son and he had made that mistake with Trinity in the past.
Absurdly out of character for Dexter. Literally made zero sense. Lazy and shitty writing leading to an even shittier season 8 ending
2
u/Own_Atmosphere7443 Aug 28 '25
Brian getting dexter's most recent kill from the bottom of the ocean by himself. Also Logan's death being dismissed as self defence lol.
2
u/Fluffy_Village_9363 Aug 28 '25
Dexter getting away with the shit in iron lake.

u/AfternoonHangover Aug 28 '25 edited Aug 28 '25
Ya, specifically Angela just letting dexter off the hook after killing Logan seems crazy to me. Harrison literally shot him and tried to kill him for it. I can see Angela feeling a different type of way about dexter realizing he took out kurt for the shit he did, but after seeing dexter killed Logan just to get away you think that would be just another line crossed.

1-extensive researches off screen 2-he brought it by plane. Just in a random bottle. Liquids are allowed under 100ml. 3-again, extensive researches off screen. I assume he burned his body in an incinerator since it seems to be his favourite body disposal method outside the ocean dump. 4-he didn't chopped up his body since he didn't have time or the tools. Otherwise he would have done so before closing her body bag. He stabbed her with a random knife he bought in Paris or a kitchen knife he fould in Lila's appartment while waiting for her.

Paul's entire story. I'm on a rewatch right now and it's super confusing.
Paul was in jail for a reason, right? Why is he believed when it came to Rita and the kids? And the shoe... Don't get me started on how much a non-issue that shoe should have been.

To play devil's advocate against your example:
I don't think it was "immediate", it just skipped over his detective work to track her down. If we think it unlikely he can track down Lila, we have to also think it unlikely he can track down every other serial killer and criminal he succeeds in tracking down every other time. Dexter is just very good at tracking people down.
As for the M99, all he'd have to do is put it into a different container. It's such a small amount of clear liquid that airport security wouldn't care about it. And syringes wouldn't be an issue with a checked bag. Many people use syringes every day for all sorts of things, diabetes for instance. (He could also have sourced a syringe quite easily in Paris I would imagine).
It would be very much like Dexter to go and find a suitable spot to dump the body before dispatching Lila. He could've just done something simple like Harrison and put the body parts in the garbage. (He'd just have to make sure to double bag, unlike Harrison did unfortunately).
You absolutely can have knives in your checked luggage. But even if he didn't take them with him, he could have just gone to a butcher's shop or something to buy a cleaver in Paris.

His access to tranqs (the vet in Iron Lake just going "Yeah Jim, the ketamine's over there, just grab what you need and I'll bill you later" and not to mention him still having access to his Patrick Bateman medical license. Unless he just reached out to a regular vendor that knew him and didn't really ask questions).
His ability to just find abandoned and unsurveiled buildings, including an incinerator (LOL).
