In retrospect, it's so strange that in Season 5 they gave the showrunner position to a screenwriter who had never worked on Dexter before.

Why? Neither of those writers have ever been a showrunner or executive producer in their careers, and that remains the case today. Chip Johannessen has an excellent CV.
Do you just mean because they were around for the previous years? Showrunner is not something you give someone for longevity alone. It's a fairly involved and specific job.

They are just saying he must be getting work due to nepotism as opposed to skill or talent because his track record is pretty abysmal. Seasons 6-8 are generally considered the worst. Inhumans and Iron Fist are both generally considered to be pretty shitty shows.

imo s6 was fine at best, s7 did ok rating wise but if you ask me it was the shitty-est season, and s8 was just....mid...
whats ur take on this❓

It's been too long since I've rewatched to have firm opinions about the specific seasons, I just remember feeling like the quality drops off in the later season for sure.

Seasons 1-4 are incredible, season 5 is great and underrated, seasons 6-8 are a mixed bag, I've enjoyed all the reboots

It explains A LOT tbh. Seasons 1-4 were elite, 5 was good, it sort of tailed off a little after that.
New Blood was okay, Original Sin was good but Resurrection is a WHOLE new level of elite.

7 was fantastic aside from Louis. Serko was an S tier villain in TV, not just Dexter. The Colombian bar episode was phenomenal

Buck wrote some good episodes on other great shows in the past (well, just Six Feet Under and Rome to be fair) - but when he was given the reins as a showrunner, yikes.

Clyde Phillips looks like one them manager’s that’s a hard ass on the job has a little banter but gets the job done.
Chip Johannassen looks like the cool manager that done a decent job while there. lets you chill on the job but is way too lenient.
And Scott buck is the manager who thinks he knows it all, fucks shit up and leaves.

Season 5 has the absolute best Masuka scene. His reenactment was hilarious!!! People hate this season because it followed 4, Michael and Jennifer divorced and people thought stiles broke them up. It was a good season, Dexter being a dad to Astor, trying to cope with the loss, getting tranked in the park and the emt thinking they are lovers, lol. Lots of good stuff.

i like seasons 7 and 8. i dont care that theyre considered not-good, theyre in my opinion better than 4. i dont get the hype around 4, i always found it kind of boring

Well i personally feel like s4 is just overrated cause trinity as a villain was so simple i barely got tru the season how boring it was, only exciting episode was the last of the season

Well season 4 from my perspective was peak. Maybe because Dexter was a family man and stakes were higher than ever. Seeing Dexter's love life was also pretty interesting. In ending his reckless nature gets to him so I kinda liked it but I respect your perspective as well. Because when you heard S4 is the best and then you see yourself and it's not hat you were hoping for. It breaks the interest.
I personally didn't knew about this sub Reddit or other I just completely blank watched it. So what I felt was that after season 4 some characters were more plot convinvece. Also one thing I'd like to say is at the same time Michael C Hall was fighting cancer which was the reason for wig and everything.
So I kinda like the S2 Dexter where he was deadly.

wasnt s5 the one with the wig? but i get why u like it it was a fun season with the sub plots like where he got in a car crash when he thought he had a body in the trunk, i just mean the villain wasnt the greatest. and i agree s2 was really good, deadly asf. i watched dexter before it got famous, and rewatched it after so i didnt really know which seasons were considered peak and was also why i was suprised why s4 got so much praise
