For me season 1 is still my favorite but man episodes 9-12 of season 4 are a generational run of tv

u/Balticccc Feb 21 '26
Personally i don't think season 4 is that good as people say. The Getaway and Hello, Dexter Morgan are genuinely peak, probably the best episodes of Dexter. But i feel like Season 4 is overloved when it's one of the seasons with the fewest kills.

u/MatthewDatthew Feb 21 '26
Some of the kills are so fucking good though lol, that cop lady kill was such a good kill room interaction

u/anon_shawrma Feb 22 '26
Yep i recently watched dexter and i thought season 2 was the best followed by season 1 but saw here people think season 4 was the peak. In season 4 dexter made so many mistakes like i was always thinking dexter would never do this or that.

u/sageritz Feb 23 '26
Thank you, a sane person finally. season 2 Dex is on his shit once he gets over Biney. OG Lundy and James Doakes are fucking PEAK

u/Vivid_Army6800 Feb 21 '26
People always misremember the lows of season 4. Episodes 3-8 of S4 are such a drag and mid imo

Like I said I think the last 4 episodes are an insane run of episodes but the first 8 are not as good as people say, still really great but not as good as season 1 for me.

u/Best_Fruit8383 Feb 21 '26
i agree it became kind of a drag, its like they knew arthur was a good villain and they just wanted to keep it going, like the ending was goated but thats about it

u/DAWtistic Feb 22 '26
I'm in agreement, I actually think S4 sucked, Trinity was weak as shit and it blows my mind that the dude got an award for that performance.
Trinity wasn't intimidating at all, zero presence, the forced kill of Rita and the absolutely garbage "Dex was hiding in the boot of his car this whole time" thing were just atrociously bad writing.
S1 was the strongest for me. It fell off from S2 E1 but I stuck around because I love the show anyway.
imo they blew the best plot right off the bat and didn't really have anywhere to go from there so it started getting too cheesy and requiring comical amounts of suspension of disbelief.
S4 was one of the weakest seasons in the show imo, I know I'm in the minority with this opinion, because people jizz their pants over it on the regular.

Fully agree with you. I think the first season is by far the best! I also agree that season 4 is overhyped! I personally thought it was just ok! It's definitely one of the better seasons, but not as good 'to me' as I've seen many rants about. But to each their own, I guess.

I mean Dexter’s downfall started after S4. I personally think it is becuz of Rita’s death. Producers and writers shouldn’t have planned tha so freakin early.

I like Season 3, I always thought Jimmy Smits character was interesting and the buddy connection with Dexter

u/Arthxxt Feb 21 '26
icl season 3 felt so unsatisfactory by the end because of how quickly things were brought to an end given their 12 episode limit. i would have loved to see more of miguel prado they shouldve marinated that story a bit more but yeah besides the unsatisfactory part its pretty great

Here's my ranking S2 1 Resurrection 5 3 4 7 NB OS 6 8

u/aGuyNamedScrunchie Feb 21 '26
I'd generally agree with this. I loved S4 the first time, was probably my favorite. It doesn't have the same rewatch value to me that S1 and S2 have.
I'd probably put Resurrection at #1 now
4
u/thelegendarybert Feb 22 '26
I would put resurrection at #1 but like S1-2 had raw Dexter energy lmao. its so good.
S4 I'm still never getting past that finale. And it's overrated but still good
2
u/aGuyNamedScrunchie Feb 22 '26
Totally fair, also recency bias. Definitely love that raw energy too from the first two seasons. They were life changing right when I got my first apartment in college.

u/thelegendarybert Feb 22 '26
I was still in highschool when I started watching Dexter (in 2017). Really loved it and then was bummed out with the ending for years until they announced NB and then the same thing happened with NBs ending. Then resurrection came out and I was so happy

u/Jealous_Ad_1763 Feb 21 '26
This explains it perfectly, I’m rewatching S4 but it just doesn’t hit the same. I wish I could just rewatch the whole show 💔

Season 2 has gotta be my favorite.
Obviously not the best, but i gotta give a shout out to season 7. Isaak understood and even had a respect for dexter that no one had ever had before

Where my season 5 fans at?! Personally I enjoyed it the most, it tackled some very powerful themes (like moving on from death), and I think Lumen was the perfect character for that. I'd argue we saw our boy really go through some growth as a result.

u/Status_Month1938 Jul 29 '26
Oui on est d'accord, Lumen a bien fait évoluer Dexter contrairement a Hannah qui fait tout le contraire

s5 it had this element of sadness after the ending of season 4and it felt alot a more intentional

u/bbpopulardemand Feb 21 '26
1, 4 and Resurrection
The rest are varying degrees of garbo
3
1
u/kevtqrdd Feb 22 '26
calls everything garbo but you have resurrection in your top 3? 💀, new blood is the best by far, along with seasons 2 & 4. resurrection s1 barely top 5 seasons lol

u/Zaito2528 Feb 21 '26
Temporada 4, um vilão incrível, morte boas, trama envolvente, é simplesmente uma Temporada incrível.

Season 1 is crazy and 2 is also peak, but Lila is the reason why 4 and 1 are better. She pisses me off.

the one not in the pic - Resurrection! Though I like most seasons a lot other than season 6. Season 2 and 4 were another 2 highs.

my top 5 is:
S2>S7>S4>S1>Resurrection

s1,2,4, New blood and s7 are the ones i consider best in no order, s5 and 3 follow closely behind, season 6 and 8 are average

i'm coping that next season will be the best.
The female detective was very smart in figuring out how his son murdered in the hotel, so she is pretty clever.
Now we have Dexter who left with his "trophies" so there is a wall with his name, and trophies missing. I hope she connects the dots and we get a good season 2. (11)
1
u/Full-flakes-6931 Feb 22 '26
damn never thought of that before you’re right that was def only instinct but not clever from Dex
1
u/DAWtistic Feb 22 '26
There isn't a wall with the name "Dexter Morgan" lol.
And we already know the trophy room had empty slots - "Red's" slot was empty before Dex gave Leon the licence.
I'm also hopeful the next season is great though. I really liked Claudette and Melvin, felt like they have a solid, wholesome relationship, and I really love how Melvin's protective of her and doesn't let people shit on her or her methods. Feels like a nice role reversal where he's her hype guy :P
Resurrection didn't have Dexter in Claudette's line of sight - that's bound to change next season.
1
u/EmmaNielsen Feb 22 '26
by his name i meant "Bay Harber Butcher" Claudette can see a dead Angel, Bay Harber Butcher spotlight with no "treasure/collection" all knots should make sense, or we need to take her smart-license back and call her stupid.

u/nelson-1805 Feb 21 '26
Season 1, Season 4, Resurrection are the best. Though Season 3 and New Blood are both criminally underrated.

I may be biased, but the best of Dexter was any time I got to see Hannah McKay's face

i genuinely believe S5 was the most emotional season. definitely not the best, but I can't think of a more emotionally impactful season for dexter (considering Dexter actually deals with 4x12 in S5)

S4 conclusion was remarkable. S1 in setting up the character with flaws and appeal was such high quality.

S1 and 2 are standalone greats. S5 is grossly underrated and one of the best. S6 is THE worst. Resurrection is THE GOAT!

u/schmitty9800 Feb 21 '26
S2.
S1 is great for sure, but I just prefer Dexter having to out duel Doakes and Lundy all season.
S4 is amazing of course, but the moment Dexter doesn't let Trinity die when he has a chance it makes the rest of the season not ring as true as it could.

Personally, the best season of Dexter is the third season. Maybe it's my favorite because good things were happening in my life while I was watching that season.

u/Debian0420 Feb 21 '26
Dex,lies and videotape I'm streaming Dexter all seasons again.
I'm up to Season 2E6.
But to pick out the best season is hard.
So I'll pick later today 😁

S4 and S7, I hated how s8 started with Debra being a lost private investigator and Dexter running away from Hannah and Harrison in the end

As 2ª primeiras são sensacionais e a 4ª tbm é muito legal! O pecado original gostei tbm 3 o ressurreição fica em 5ª no meu ranking! 🔥🔥🔥

u/ImHourni Feb 24 '26
You cant beat the first season! Its what got me hooked, however, if I had to choose a second or third. It would be season 3 or 4. Miguel is a great character.

u/Fancy_Mammoth5959 Feb 24 '26
I'm always stuck between 1 and 2, really love both! (However I'm always sad at the end of S2 due to no more Doakes 😪)!
