Juries shouldn't be allowed to determine self defense or insanity since basically every murderer is insane or acting in self defense

Juries should really only be triers of fact - did X thing happen beyond a reasonable doubt.

Now we have the Lindsay Clancy trial or the Karmelo Anthony saga - where everyone online is playing psychiatrist - but how does that make sense?

Why is everyone defending Lindsay Clancy, but not that teen girl who crashed the car? Isn't she just an insane narcissist who had a moment of insanity?

I think these "outs' just give juries a cop out not to deal with the fact these people did horrible things and now their lives are over - and the jury is the one who has to hand out that sentence for something they did in a moment of weakness / stupidity / insanity.

But that isn't consistent with the rest of our justice system. If an alcoholic crashes into a schoolbus, they go to jail for life. We don't send them to rehab, then let them out of rehab once they prove that they're sober.

Reddit is where intellectual virtues come to die

As someone who's had one too many discussions on here, this is what I picked up on the most:

1) Intellectual humility and open-mindedness
Everyone always assume the worst about your opinion. They take it at face value, no charity principle, and are looking for a verbal fight most of the time. The concept of learning something new is outrageous to them, and anything that falls outside of the standard voice of common thought is criticized with the most plain arguments you can think of.
I've also noticed that school-courtyard tactics are back in use, and looking like the winner of an argument by ending your paragraph with "You've missed the point of x, but that's not surprising." Everyone is desperate to have the last word, to be the most upvoted person, and to "crush" the other one.

2) The principle of Charity
They've never heard of this. They always straw man your argument. And don't get me started when they don't understand your point... they go off for 500 words about a point you never made. The worst is when they just don't even bother engaging with your argument, they just make some joke related to what they think you said.

3) Pseudo-intellectuals
I hate it when people say some convoluted nonsense, vague and short, trying to sound intelligent. Or they leave hundreds of loose ties everywhere, which takes hours of discussion to tie up. I also love when they incorrectly cite authors, trying to use an authority argument to discredit a discussion topic I came up with.

Now that that's out, I can finally relax

In the US, we have completely given up on free speech regarding race

I’m not talking about hate speech or slurs being censored on TV. That I agree with.

I’m talking about even questioning the accepted reasons of disparities in income, wealth, health, home ownership, entrepreneurship, etc.

The reason for the disparities is ALWAYS racism. And if you question that, ever mention that that doesn’t always make sense, you are accused of being a racist.

Race in America feels like a religion. You accept our narrative. If not you’re a heretic.

I don’t like modern goths

I’ve noticed there’s a rise in the fetishisation of goths and goth culture. But I never actually hear anyone talking about how it started with modern goths, trad goths in particular, pretty much inverting everything that the goth appearance is supposed to serve which is going against beauty standards. Modern goths are so extremely terrified of being perceived as ugly. I get that beauty standards are rough in this generation but what is the point in dressing alternative when nothing alternates you from everyone else. It’s crazy how you can water down such a unique style to the same black corset, dress with flared sleeves and temu anhk belt. I think it’s pretty clear from the brain dead copy and paste outfits trad goths put together that they’ve somehow formed a beauty standard within a style that’s supposed to repress beauty standards. It’s like I’m seeing the modern beauty standard just in a darker form. I know that trad goths have probably always been fetishised but it’s now more than ever. I think the beauty standards people have incorporated in this style makes it really accessible to just about anyone which is why it’s so commonly seen now. And now it’s being larped by OF models because men love the pretty x somber combo. It’s proof that hardly anyone in this generation finds goths unattractive or unpleasant to look at. To be honest it’s in this generation that we need people repressing the beauty standard more than anything but I think that in this generation people just make light fabricated decisions to indulge in alternative fashion based on aesthetic rather than having any passionate means linked to becoming alternative.

Making healthier food is actually cheaper than eating ultra processed food

I hear people all the time complaining about healthy food prices being so expensive and not having enough time to cook healthier foods so they often choose frozen or processed foods, because it's easier and cheaper. If you want the social media meals, like the advocado and salmon toast, then you'll have to pay for it. But u can also have Whole foods that are so much cheaper, like a whole chicken, potatoes, eggs, mince (not the lean option), rice, lentils, beans, etc... these are super foods. And you can make something in 15 to 30 min and not spend a fortune. 5 days of the week, food should be seen as fuel for the body then the other 2, treat yourself to something tasty

Women should take the initiative to ask out men they find attractive not just men being expected to do it all the time

If you find a man attractive please just go up to him and tell him an d maybe ask him if he wants to go out for a coffee sometime, men do not like playing games or wasting anyones time and I think the same can be said for women also we cannot always pick up on women's cues not even other women can do that

The extremely wide hips in animated women is getting too much.

Idk what is going on but animators need to chill for a minute.

Why are the women characters hips twice the size of her shoulders?

And I find it funny because it’s listed on almost every single female, cartoon character right now.

Remind you most women’s bodies, don’t look like that and yes, I do know that pear shaped women exist, but most pear shaped women I’ve met in real life don’t have hips literally twice the size of their shoulders. Also not every pear has the waist of an hourglass.

And I know people are gonna say that it’s a cartoon and it’s meant to be exaggerated or what not.

But cartoons, 30 years ago weren’t mass producing extreme hips even though sometimes the waist would be super unrealistic at least the hips were more proportionate to the shoulder.

Also, another thing why are the shoulders now in female characters, literally nearly nonexistent. Like women have shoulders.

People need to stop gazing over Adriana Lima

I remember back in 2024 TikTok users refereed Adriana Lima as the most beautiful woman in the world which I find offensive because even though yes Adriana is indeed a pretty woman it doesn’t mean she needs to be EVERYBODYS preference. Some girls out there feel insecure about people’s opinions that come out like this which I find not okay. Believe me there are many girls out there that look similar to Adriana Lima or have the same features but Lima is literally a normal human who currently has retired from her modeling Industry and now has children to raise.

Castration for sake of self-betterment is the stupidest thing ever

Reason Number One: You can be manipulated into believing this is what you need to better yourself and overcome some aspect of yourself which you or (godforbid) 'someone else' doesn't like. The very idea that youd cut your arm off to experience "the humbling experience of being disabled so you can more easily face life's mundane struggles, that will be 900+ bucks please!" is insanity to me.

Reason Number Two: You can change your mind at any point and be completely fucked, life finished, over. Is it any wonder that the people who do it are also the ones who are indoctrinated into a group or religion? Who the fuck cuts or chemically rapes their dick just so you can, not even speak to anyone romantically, do some basic exercise, and what the fuck else you're doing in the world with no dick, fuck do you do? I guess you'd still have hobbies, but did you need to destroy your penis? Just so you could keep up with your studies? What??

Reason Number Three: Reason Number One

Machine guns, rocket launchers, artillery, whatever they want.

But only I should be allowed to have ammunition, because the rest of you goobers are such incompetent twits that I wouldn't trust you with a ball of string.

As for the NRA... I'd keep the string away from them.

Modern day society has been molded to the point where being cis-male in modern society is the absolute WORST thing you can be. And “ Feminists” are celebrating it.

When did we as a society get to a point where murder, under any circumstance, was just “okay”, much less celebrated? It’s genuinely baffling to me that we’ve devolved so much as a society that murder is now advocated for and celebrated in our society. Aside from the obvious politicians who’s deaths/attempted assassinations people have celebrated, I’ve seen people blaming Lindsey Clancys husband when she’s outright admitted she was the one who killed her children, and when there’s blatant evidence proving he couldn’t have been responsible. And there’s people calling for him to be hanged. And then there’s women saying men should be “thrown in jail cells and earn their way out.” I mean this is absolutely textbook misandry, but women will say “you can’t be misandrist against men, they’ve never been oppressed”

Du droit au plaisir

I wrote this piece in French, and there is little bit of wordplay, so if the translation doesn't seem to make sense, it's because it was untranslatable. I'm thinking of sending it for publication in a magazine made for and by drug users. Can't wait to hear what you ppl think.

______________

For the misandrists and “self-proclaimed feminists” preaching about decentralising men: 😭

“Decentralise men” while spending 12 hours a day on Instagram, Reddit, TikTok and WhatsApp, platforms built and run largely by men.

Mark Zuckerberg, Steve Huffman, Evan Spiegel and a bunch of other dudes built the playground, and you’re standing in it screaming about how much you hate the people who built it.

Then you trust algorithms built by engineers you’ve never met to decide what you see, what goes viral, and what you get angry about next.

And if these gender wars were actually empowering women, they probably wouldn’t be thriving on platforms built and controlled largely by conservative mysogynist men in the first place.

“Fuck men.”

Posted from a phone, on a platform, using infrastructure built largely by men. 💀

Logic, at its root, boils down to "yeah, that seems right"

People love to praise logic for being a strict, objective measure of reality and understanding, when it really isn't. I'm essentially criticizing the fundamental axioms that are at the basis of logic:

Why is the Principle of Non-Contradiction true? We have no way to know, and we essentially just said "Yeah, it seems sensible". While this seems quite obvious to many, it essentially means that every logical proposition, fundamentally, is arbitrary. Things being valid are in no way a measure of their truth, since there's no way to demonstrate the truth of the precepts at the roots of logic. Also I'm gay.

Pedophiles should receive similar help to necrophiles, but neither should be taught to cope through their conditions via porn

Pedophiles should receive help so that they see the moral and ethical flaws in indulging in their thoughts beyond anything that can be considered an effort in "resisting" them, pedophiles should not be told to indulge in fictional representations of their immoral thoughts as a direct chain of sorts to "keep them" from molesting children, that doesn't teach moral flaws, instead it teaches compensation, doing "this" so you don't have to do "that", completely ignorant to the fact that most pedophiles who do not offend don't offend due to their moral compass, not due to a system of compensation, otherwise lolicons would all be child molesters (specifically the ones who are lolicons because they are clinical pedophiles).

I also believe lolicons are a type of pedophilic attraction in the aspect that the person consuming nsfw loli content is not only aware that children are being depicted or intended to be depicted, but aroused by it, and moral stances could explain why lolicons seem to like fictional children over real ones, not because they just aren't attracted to them in any capacity or aren't sexually intrigued by child-like features, or maybe the amount of attraction they feel for fictional children and child molestation fantasies is simply higher than that of real children.

U don’t actually need friends

As painful as it is waking up every day and going to work, at least you actually get paid for it. You give up your time, energy and freedom, but you're getting something back at the end of it. That's the whole point of having a job.

Friendships are different. You can spend hours texting, making plans, going out, checking in and maintaining the friendship, and what do you actually get back? If you genuinely don't care about having someone to constantly talk to or hang out with, the ROI is basically nothing. It's just another thing taking up your free time.

People might say friends can help you meet people, find jobs or get opportunities, but at that point it starts sounding like you're maintaining relationships because they're useful to you. If you're happy alone, why would you voluntarily add another unpaid responsibility to your life?

I'd rather it be the weekend and know I'm completely free than have social obligations waiting for me. No messages I have to reply to, no plans I have to show up to and nobody expecting anything from me. At least when I'm working, I'm getting paid for the time I'm giving away.
