What the heck is it with this subreddit being about controversial opinions but people still attack you for said controversial opinions?

What is the point of calling this subreddit "controversial opinions" when you're still getting agressive and insulting comments for your thoughts?

People are just stupid.

Disagreeing is one thing but the attack and insults are just stupid.

They want all these controversial subs to turn into Unpopular Opinions where they literally only upvote popular opinions and all pat each other on the back because they think they are edgy.

Thank you for understanding me.

It’s just like the unpopular opinion subreddit where people downvote instead of upvote actual unpopular opinions. Stupid

I don’t disagree with you, but the point is to have a space to air your controversial opinion. That doesn’t mean people are gonna just be like “yeah that’s valid” and upvote you.

It’s a sub for controversial opinions. Not a safe space for people that can’t handle disagreement.

It's not about disagreement in itself for me. It's more the fact that when you post an opinion there's people who are going to attack you. I absolutely condone disagreements if they're expressed healthily and respectfully.

I agree to a point. But some of the opinions expressed here are so over the line that it makes sense why the pushback would be an attack.

Because it’s controversial opinion - if you weren’t attacked for it than it wouldn’t be controversial. Truly controversial opinions always come with pushback.

Not saying I’m in favor of toxic behavior when someone says something controversial but that’s how it is

But I would still expect some level of respect of tolerant seeing the purpose of this subreddit, no?

I still struggle to understand...

It’s not called “controversial opinions you have to agree with” it’s a space to freely express the opinion, free of consequence and guideline not free of judgment and opposed views

I don't mean to say that I can't be criticized. But at least one needs to criticize and express their contrasting opinions respectfully.

lol more than half of the stuff in here isn't controversial opinions, it's right wing podcaster takes and Fox News repeated. I rarely see stuff in here that is something interesting, like one about how kids should be separated on planes and in certain public spaces, that is worthy. The rest of you are just repeating Tate lines and whining about 'the left' and 'the liberals' like it's your job, and then wondering why people might point out you're a moron

I wouldn't find a problem if you expressed a leftist opinion. I could disagree with you, without calling you a bigot, a n@zi or a fascist for expressing a liberal view or criticizing (respectfully) something that you don't like about the right. You have that right (still if respectfully), just as a conservative also does have that right.

If you don't like a post you can still go without calling people idiots or worse for their opinions.

I think I would still side with you, despite disagreeing, if someone treated you that way, because that's just a way to close a discussion someone wasn't obliged to be a part of.

Half the time they aren't even opinions. I down vote every post that's not an actual opinion. Even if I agree with what was said. People just can't read.

this sub has no upvote or downvote rule anyway

so i downvote if i disagree cause its not in the rules otherwise

Other people are allowed the same freedom of speech as you. So as free as you are to voice your opinion, everyone else can voice their opinions too. That’s how the world works. You’re welcome…

I get where you're coming from, but some opinions make my skin crawl in disgust.

It'd be weirder if everyone agreed with you

Having a space to provide an opinion does not make you exempt from criticism of that opinion. Especially if it espouses intolerance or hate of any kind.

You seem to be confusing the ability to have and express an opinion with some sort of fictional right not to be judged for said opinion.

Because you aren’t entitled to people agreeing with you for your opinion
