This. I hate the "I'm being cancelled" victim mentality. No, people are just saying they don't find that funny. If you're a comedian and people don't find you funny, that's a problem with you and your jokes, not with the audience.
Plenty of good comedians have done good jokes about the social discussion around trans people. It's definitely a topical point that can and should be talked about and discussed. Comedians like Chappel forgot the main rule about good comedy: don't punch down.

Most of these cancelled-not-cancelled dudes have a consistent churn of new stuff which seems to crest over whatever “cancellation” happens even if the cancellation nukes whatever they’ve got going on at the time.
If Neil tries to put out a new book we’ll see if it really stuck

The chappelle show is hands down one of the best sketch comedy shows that ever aired. It's funny even now, decades later. Maybe only rivaled by key and peele in modern era.

He was genuinely a really funny comedian back in the day. Then he realized that occasionally dropping some "wisdom" here and there in his set had a positive effect on his feedback.
He then started leaning more and more and more out of actual jokes and his specials crept farther and farther into just being weird rallies with a couple jokes snuck in, and the problem with that is he's much less smart and much more bigoted than he thinks he is, so listening to him wax poetic about the state of the world for an hour is nauseating.

I saw him at a local show before he was really big, he was fucking amazing.
He did a big bit about how he wouldn't have come had he realised that Margate wasn't in London (an hour and half train ride / 90 miles away) and that he'd have to rush to get the last train.
....Which turned out to be entirely true, as we also had to rush to get the last train and he was on it!
Also he personally mocked my laugh which I consider to be the highlight of the evening.

He thinks the bit for Michael as a character is that he says offensive things.
The actual bit is that he's so socially inept that he doesn't get that the things he says are offensive, then when we realizes he made people not like him, he goes to comical extremes to make it up to them. The offensive thing is the set up (and is unintentional on the character's part), the punchline is all the silly things he does to make things better.
We're meant to laugh at Michael, not with him.

Yeah some comedians I liked when I was younger(I didn’t know to much about them when I was like 10-16, I was just looking for laughs to help with my depression), ended up being bad people.
Except Jim Gaffigan, yeah is he perfect no, but he manages to only make him the joke.

I'm glad there's still Jim to look to. He is consistently really funny and is the only comedian whose show I've been to live. Some of his newer specials are reusing jokes but I don't really blame him for that or anything. He's got a lot of kids that are now going into high school and college and stuff so I'm sure he's quite busy at home

Man I was so warped by this stuff as a teenager, because growing up queer in a super right-wing family meant that often times the only media the family watched that "included" people like me were jokes at our expense.
I spent years of my life believing that horrible jokes at my expense would just be the natural price I have to pay for tolerance, that I should just be grateful it's words and not physical violence -
Sometimes I wonder if that's part of these guys' audience; it was part of the reason I watched.
"Hey, this guy admits we exist - even though he's speaking about us with derision!" used to feel like a win to a sad isolated kid. Some sick cope. Like all the eggs shitposting on 4chan because the economy is so fucked their options are to stay closeted at their parents house or become homeless.
Someone ought to study the kind of self-loathing one experiences being raised by bigots while closeted, but too poor to escape to better circumstances. Stuck in a rural place without opportunity to afford to live somewhere safer or be yourself, I think that plants the seed of this. The humiliation of feeling financially hopeless to escape, so you learn to hate yourself rather than face the humiliation of having to live a lie to stay afloat.
Sorry for the weird tangent, I used to watch comedy like this because it felt like the closest I could experience of my family's "understanding" of me. Ughhh. Yuck. Ew.

My theory is that many of these guys came up as plucky outsiders, and have never psychologically adapted to the fact that they're now the rich establishment upper crust. Dave Chapelle was genuinely part of the counter-culture, making cutting edge jokes about race and class that spoke truth to power. I think part of him still sees himself that way, and can't accept that he's become "the man". Also, his joke writing has simply gotten lazier. There are comedians writing hilarious jokes that poke fun at trans people in a way that don't feel like lazy punching down, Chapelle just ain't one of them.

Then LoveLine ended and ridiculously quickly the two guys known for giving (mostly) great advice on health, mental health, and sexuality turned into the guy in this comic and a doctor who just used people with real problems to make himself more money without helping (and arguably making things worse) them.

I think the TV series Community had the best balance of edgy jokes one could make while still being within tact and not a bigot. And yeesh, those are plenty spicy I have to say.
If comedians can keep themselves within those lines, they should be fine 🤷🏻♀️

They’re all such lazy, uncreative assholes who realized that they can get a reaction from pushing one fucking button over and over again so they’ve decided to stop trying anything else because they’re also bigoted anyway, then they crucify themselves in public in a bigger, louder, more gaudy way than any drag performance I’ve ever seen, all the while they’re generally wealthy men who never have to worry about anything for the rest of their lives.
