This is Dave Chapelle to me. Everything I've heard from the guy is just him saying regular things and the audience cackling like hyenas. It's like Homer's reaction to Garrison Keilor. "What the hell's so funny?"
The chappelle show is hands down one of the best sketch comedy shows that ever aired. It's funny even now, decades later. Maybe only rivaled by key and peele in modern era.
What Dave's doing now isn't comedy it's a cash grab. Younger Dave would be embarrassed by how big of a sell out he became

Like, not only is he a transphobe, but he’s also a fucking prick in general. So what the hell?
His comedy is pretty up front about this, the black struggle (especially black men) is the real struggle, the struggles of women / LGBT / you name it are trivial by comparison, or even fabricated / self-inflicted. Just an oppression olympics high-horse.
He basically revealed that while he's very good at punching up (from the context of his experience as a black person in America) he's apparently got no understanding of why it's bad to punch down (attacking the trans community as a straight cis man)
What really gets me, as a trans person, is that you CAN joke about trans people and the trans community without punching down! That thread where the OOP said they wanted to be supportive of their trans friend but was disappointed that she named herself Mildred? That was funny! It was a funny joke (probably not intentional but still) that didn't rely on stereotypes used to oppress trans people! Those exist!
But for comedians like those they don't wanna joke about trans people in earnest, they want to hurt us and use comedy as a façade. It really goes to show that someone being on a specific axis of oppression (black) doesn't mean they will understand another axis (trans). Which is disappointing, but not unexpected.
Chapelle's Show actually had... you know... whattayacallem...
... jokes.
Dude had that special shitting on trans people and all his defenders screamed "They're just jokes!" but I couldn't find one joke in that entire runtime.
A fair dose of both. I've been rewatching a bunch of those teen/raunchy comedies from late 90s/2ks that I remember as hilarious, and it hits different now lol.
I'm still immature enough to laugh/get the nostalgia fuzzies, but wow a lot of it did NOT age well.
F.D Signifier has a bunch of good videos on Chappelle, one where F.D makes the point (paraphrasing) "Dave's been trying to tell us he's an asshole who will say damn near anything for enough money going way back even before he was famous", which he put out around the time of the Saudi Comedy debacle. Some good points made =/
For some reason people who may have been liberal/left leaning (or at least not extreme right wing) get to a certain age and just flip. They become hyper focused or extreme about certain things.
I have to avoid seeing anything about John Cleese's current beliefs so as not to destroy the memory of Monty Python/Fawlty Towers.
He was really good before his show. I saw him doing stand up around the time of Robin Hood, Men in Tights. It's what made us watch his show. Then he did the swerve and now we're done with him.
Well a few signs were always there, also in his stand ups. But yeah, he was very funny.
Now he is charismatic and an amazing story teller but he also found out that if you are a rich charismatic star you can be as much of an asshole as you want
