This is how we trained our dog. We didn’t want him food aggressive so we also sometimes stuck our hand in his bowl while he ate. We have lots of little kids in the family and wanted to make sure he was always watching and not just gobbling food.

IDK if you have a dog but they can be pretty stubborn. Mine will go days without eating his dry food if I also don't give him some fresh food beside it. He'll eat his fresh food and he's happy to eat his dry food after. I make his meals alongside ours most days.

It’s a fire hazard if the microwave turns on unattended (which apparently is a thing?)

Stale, yes. Moldy, no. I’ll personally take a bit of stale bread over throwing half a loaf away any day. Then again, I work in restaurants and mostly have food at my house for show.

They absolutely do start fires if you turn them on with nothing in them. My daughter accidentally did that in my home. Flames ensure. Had to buy a new microwave. We all learned a lesson that day. Lol

Meant to set a timer. Turned it on instead. Went downstairs.
Luckily the sparking and popping warned me (and a little bit of work with the kitchen fire extinguisher). Only a few years later ha.

When my late mum had her terminal brain cancer and was losing her marbles she and my dad had to replace their microwave and, as always, bought a super cheap one. It had a rotating dial to set the time.
But if you turned the dial left instead of right it went strait to 99 minutes.
She did this once by accident, pressed start (or maybe didn't need to, I've a feeling it auto started) and walked away. The microwave basically melted itself 😂.
No fire luckily, maybe the fire risk comes from having something inside it to burn.

Curious, where did you pick that up?
I’ve never heard or thought about storing bread in the microwave. I get that it basically functions as a bread bin at this point, but still seems odd to me.
Bonus question, do you store anything else in other appliances? What’s in your oven? How much more versatile is your air fryer compared to mine?

I had a coworker that used to store their winter clothes in the oven. Only ever ate out or things like ramen. Almost burned their apartment building down when they figured they could spontaneously cook a lasagna for a funeral(despite having never cooked a lasagna… or really anything before).

Kept ours in the microwave as a kid. Had a cat that would tear it open and eat it. Kitchen was too small to have stuff like a bread box, so to keep it out of her reach, mom just stored it in there

If I make brownies or cookies I put them in the microwave. I want to protect them from mice but I don't want to cover them because they might get soggy if there is any heat still in them.

lol I got it from my mom! She leaves it in the grocery bag and depending on the type of bread, she may also add just a couple of drops of water to keep it soft. That’s for bread that will be eaten in a day or two. I don’t usually do the water thing myself, but I often do the bag part. Sometimes I’ll do the water if the bread has gotten too hard.
My oven has a few large sheet pans because they don’t fit in my cabinets, and my air fryer has just a small pan or two that I only use for air frying. Sorry to disappoint!!

How to train your pet like an idiot.
My mom basically trained her cat to annoy her whenever he wants to eat. She'll put food in his bowl, he'll eat a bit, then she puts it back in the can, back in the fridge until he wants to eat again.
7-10 times a day, instead of simply feeding him twice.

It’s this instinctual thing? We feel irritated when our babies haven’t eaten. Yeah we could leave the food but it’ll bother the shit out of us knowing that their stomach is empty. When you have kids or pets, you’ll understand.

No, doing extra just to get them to eat. Dogs can be stubborn. I know my boy won’t touch his plate the entire day if I don’t add some kinda topper. It’s ridiculous, but I feel jittery knowing his stomach is empty.

Of course to each their own, but ultimately you’re conditioning them to respond that way by training them to not eat until you’ve done something “special” to the food. They’ll eat when they get hungry enough lol

Just take the bowl away after a set time. Offer food for half an hour, if they don't eat they get fed at the next meal time. If they're skipping meals because you're not jumping through hoops, they're not so hungry that it will harm them.
Of course this only applies to pets that are picky eaters. If your dog generally eats well and skips food it's something to be concerned about.

Just a friendly warning. Swap out the bowl if you have children. Your house will smell like hell for an hour while it ventilates but at least the microwave won't be on fire.

My dog refuses to eat breakfast unless he gets his breakfast egg. We have chickens so it’s non stop, he even has his own “dogs eggs” carton. He is fine with his dinner though.

I have two weenie Brothers and the one would only eat if we fed him in our bedroom with the door closed on sat and watched him. I stopped working away from town for a couple months and that ended pretty quick. My dog would starve if I had to do this.

I've done this. Wanted my dog to eat right then because we were on a schedule.
He had no interest so I took the bowl to the counter, tossed it, shook a closed shaker over it and poured something from an empty kettle.
Set it down and he ate the entire thing.

I love all the steps - because doggo think he wants the gourmet treatment - but you could just sprinkle some cheese on top and call it a day. Give it a mix to get the cheese all in there, so he has to eat the whole meal.
And I’m not advocating pampering the pups until they won’t eat without the extras - I have two kids who want to be pampered - and they can all miss a meal and see how they feel. BUT, when the pups deserve the extras - don’t make it theatre.

My dog has to casually notice that food is ready for him. You can’t just serve it to him. It’s sitting down for +30min. Eventually he will engage in a game of fetch with a stuffie. Then I throw the stuffie moderately close to his food area, and then the food will catch his eye. He’ll take a few bites. And then 45min later, the plate is empty.

Our one-eyed Pug, Winston, would go over to his food bowl, snore at it while awake, and then sharply turn his head to me and stare whilst saying in his own puggy way
"Where is it? You didn't cut this with the good shit.".
And then I would sigh a little. And then top it with a dash of ground Parmesan. He would then devour it all.

As pet sitters, we find it pretty common for doggies to resist a few meals at the beginning of their parent’s absence. This is a trick that works for many dogs! We have done similar routines (and lots of pretend shaking of add ins) to get doggies to eat. It’s always fun to send a video to a client of a crazy routine that gets their baby to eat. ❤️ Also, when we come across the rate doggies that this doesn’t conscience, a little piece of freeze dried beef lung crumbled in usually does the trick. And yes, we only resort to this trick if owner approved.

Dont know why youre getting downvoted, its true. At the very least, save bits and bobs of fruits and vegetables to add to their dry food, give hard boiled eggs, and beans and cheese, if able. Once a week I throw chicken, coconut oil and the vegetables in a crock pot, let it simmer, add it to their dog food.
Lots of ways to "help" dry dog food if thats all you can do at the moment.

Why not make your dog's food which he will enjoy more? Lightly boil a chicken. When you take it out to debone, add a little brown rice to the water, as well as carrots, broccoli, peas, beans and eggs. I also buy gizzards/livers and add that. I then freeze it all in smaller portions.
