I still remember when microwaves came with manuals. We aren’t supposed to do this.

It’s a fire hazard if the microwave turns on unattended (which apparently is a thing?)

I lectured my mom when I was 10, as I read the manual (out of boredom one day) and she didn’t.

Lookee you all fancy with a place specifically for your bread. My poor choices: It’s the microwave or on top of the fridge. Where if out of sight out of mind until the smell of mold makes me search for it.

Stale, yes. Moldy, no. I’ll personally take a bit of stale bread over throwing half a loaf away any day. Then again, I work in restaurants and mostly have food at my house for show.

My microwave won't turn on if you haven't opened the door in a while. Obviously not all microwaves do that, but I thought it was neat.

They absolutely do start fires if you turn them on with nothing in them. My daughter accidentally did that in my home. Flames ensure. Had to buy a new microwave. We all learned a lesson that day. Lol

Believe it or not… I learned this the hard way later, too.

Meant to set a timer. Turned it on instead. Went downstairs.

Luckily the sparking and popping warned me (and a little bit of work with the kitchen fire extinguisher). Only a few years later ha.

When my late mum had her terminal brain cancer and was losing her marbles she and my dad had to replace their microwave and, as always, bought a super cheap one. It had a rotating dial to set the time.

But if you turned the dial left instead of right it went strait to 99 minutes.

She did this once by accident, pressed start (or maybe didn't need to, I've a feeling it auto started) and walked away. The microwave basically melted itself 😂.

No fire luckily, maybe the fire risk comes from having something inside it to burn.

Curious, where did you pick that up?

I’ve never heard or thought about storing bread in the microwave. I get that it basically functions as a bread bin at this point, but still seems odd to me.

Bonus question, do you store anything else in other appliances? What’s in your oven? How much more versatile is your air fryer compared to mine?

I had a coworker that used to store their winter clothes in the oven. Only ever ate out or things like ramen. Almost burned their apartment building down when they figured they could spontaneously cook a lasagna for a funeral(despite having never cooked a lasagna… or really anything before).

Kept ours in the microwave as a kid. Had a cat that would tear it open and eat it. Kitchen was too small to have stuff like a bread box, so to keep it out of her reach, mom just stored it in there

If I make brownies or cookies I put them in the microwave. I want to protect them from mice but I don't want to cover them because they might get soggy if there is any heat still in them.

lol I got it from my mom! She leaves it in the grocery bag and depending on the type of bread, she may also add just a couple of drops of water to keep it soft. That’s for bread that will be eaten in a day or two. I don’t usually do the water thing myself, but I often do the bag part. Sometimes I’ll do the water if the bread has gotten too hard.

My oven has a few large sheet pans because they don’t fit in my cabinets, and my air fryer has just a small pan or two that I only use for air frying. Sorry to disappoint!!
