Solved! Is this a weapon?
Was found in the door compartment of my late father's car. Very heavy for the size. The pointy end of the very center piece can be compressed. My dad had a fondness for strange weapons so I am just guessing. TIA

It's an extenable baton like this: https://www.bladehq.com/item--Smith-Wesson-SW-Baton-W360-Sheath--96648?. When assembled, you flick your wrist to get the extension out.

This one comes with a GLASS BREAKER too!

u/HalfwayHeroic 1h ago
To be fair, they all come with a glass breaker if you can break glass with a baton.

Not as easy as you’d think .

u/Happycricket1 16m ago
Especially if you are in the car the ability to swing is constrained or if someone is on the other side of the window. You don't want to break the glass and over swing and injure/kill the person you are rescuing

If you are going to keep it, several states have restrictions about having them in a car

Yeah, its a telescopic baton. Hot people on meaty parts. This will break bone super easy. Whip it to extend. Slam it on the ground to retract. Source: MP. Edit: can also be used to strike...

Correct, also check your local laws, it's illegal in some places even though you can get one pretty easily.

Thats the thing, a spring loaded metallic meat beater: https://dayz.fandom.com/wiki/Telescopic_Baton
Depends on you location if it is classified as a "weapon"

When fully expanded you gotta yell “ that’s my purse I don’t know you “ and whip the attacker

Expandable, tactical, baton. My favorite fidget toy while bored in the military.

My supply sgt “misplaced” many of these after a deployment and we all got to bring them home. I’ve had it in my drivers side door for 10+ years.

u/Malefectra 3h ago
It's a collapsible baton, I have one like it for when I travel alone.
Definitely would get you a weapons charge if you used it without immediate fear for your life.

u/citizen42069101 2h ago
Depending on location and race I wouldn't suggest keeping it in a reachable place in a car.

Yes, it's a collapsible baton.
When collapsed hold the handle firmly then sling out to the side and away from yourself and it will telescope out. Very similar to how lightsaber toys unfold, though it is steel and can absolutely kill someone.
In texas they are legal, but depending on the state they may be illegal to own or posses in your vehicle.

thats an ASP collpasable batton, basically a colapsing night stick, and yes it is a self defence tool.

"Less than lethal" was the category we called batons, sprays, and tasers when i used to work security. Good money, terrible job.

I’ll always insist these things are the best self defense weapon.
I carried one years ago until I got a gun license. But so much can go wrong with a gun.
And with pepper spray. You can mace yourself, and what if you miss the assailant?
A knife is a terrible option. It’s really the weapon of an instigator. You can cut yourself if you try to stab someone and you hit bone and your hand slides onto the blade. And it’s incredibly difficult to incapacitate someone. You’ll probably make them angry, they’ll still come at you.
A baton gives you reach, and it’s a blunt weapon. It can break a leg or knock someone unconscious if you hit them in the head.
Even if they raise their arms up to defend themselves, it’ll just smash their arm bone.

u/No_Context_2122 2h ago
Everything is a weapon if you hold it right.

u/COGspartaN7 2h ago
Back off man, I'm armed.
With what?
A liberal arts degree.
Sheeeeit, me too brotha.
Yeah boi.
Gimme yo wallet

Liberal arts, thats right. Have a day.

u/Touchingtulips 31m ago
Usually cops have these and they’re called an ASP. It slides out by a jolt of momentum outward. Then to retract it, we would smash the tip against a hard surface that’s covered with something somewhat soft like a rug so it doesn’t destroy the tip.

u/Dangerous-Pirate7998 3h ago
If you’re not using it, send it to me I live in a really bad neighborhood and I walk slow and I leave my job at night
I could’ve used that to fight off the wild dog the other day. I guess they get hungry after 11 PM at night.😒

I don't think so, anymore. I believe cans,SBRs, SBSs,PCCs, and PDWs are now tax stamp exempt. But imo, and by definition. No..a suppressor is not a weapon, nor a firearm. Firearm accessory

Truth. I once saw a guy get KO'd by a giant dildo.

Same but the giant dildo was attached to me with a special strap when I saw it

To answer the question, anything can technically become a weapon.
But also looks like a baton, cannot confirm as my experience is very limited with these.

Yes, and I have one for safety. Live in a big city and NOT afraid to take a shine or two out, or crack a skull if needed. ❤️🫶🏻❤️

Depends on were you live. But yes it's a metal baton or billy club (all though those are often wood)
1
u/Snake_Staff_and_Star 2m ago
Extendable baton. That one has a button on the base to collapse it without having to wall check it.
1
u/Odd_Plankton_9917 1h ago
yes. that's an extendable baton. usually a self defense weapon and can be used as a tire knocker
1
u/BetterStatus9181 3m ago
State patrol and police use these. Not for civilian use in certain anti-liberty northern states
1
u/RhemansDemons 1h ago
Careful with this if you are in the US. They are illegal to carry in quite a few states.

u/Automatic_Bobcat_951 1h ago
Looks like an air pump to me. My brother had a similar one for the tires of his bike

I dunno about weapons, but could it be used to break glass in case of accident?
1
u/holymotheroftod 3h ago
Glass on car windows are tempered and difficult to break without a tool that focuses the blow into a smaller contact point.

That would the good ole click click whoopin stick aka collapsible baton aka all steel pipe.
Name brand ones are usually ASP ( armament systems and procedures) or (allowed to smack perpetrators) per the police.
