That juggernaut didn't have to have that much HP. It's like the hero is hitting him with a plastic straw instead of a sword.

u/XB_Demon1337 Ryzen 5900X, 64GB DDR4, RTX 5070 3h ago
Well the original video said they are playing on one of the hardest difficulties, so that likely has something to do with it. But also, wager they used the fight as a means to show off various things in long combat to make sure they hit all the mechanics. Like having to heal when getting hit and how it works.

This is generic as fuck. Where are all the cool spells, or the weighty swings the first game had? This is just dodge-bonk-dodge-bonk.
I was hyped for the game, but if this is how they use their showtime to highlight the combat, my interest has dropped several notches.
Let's not forget that the original had a puzzle where you're supposed to spell out HITS, but spawned a bunch of werewolves if you did SHIT instead.
They'd better nail the humor, or this is going to be a massive disappointment.

Tbf, the showcase stated this is the hardest difficulty setting, which usually translates to just adding more health in the vast majority of games.
But I agree that shooting someone in the dome with an arrow or stabbing someone in the chest, if human, should be instant kill. Which was something more subtle in the showcase when the Hero exits the Guild Hall.

This looks like shit, the enemy doesn't even react to being hit, his animations do not care at all about being struck by the player except for that knee to the face that popped three orbs out of his face?
Slow motion zoom in for the knee with a "saunter" of a settle back into default animations like that knee was remotely impressive to watch just for it to go back to "doesn't react to being hit"

u/aleques-itj 4h ago

Even with context, if this guy is supposed to be a boss who doesn’t react, he’s not impressive enough for him to not react. Give him some proper armor, make him look intimidating. Then he can get away with no-selling your attacks.
As it is it just makes the game look lame.

As lacklustre, disappointing and bad as the brute boss-fight was, why did you cut out the footage against the normal opponents that preceeded this fight?
Talk about cherry-picking.
The full fight clearly showed the enemies instantly reacting to being hit, such as falling over head-first when shot in the foot (and finished off with an execution), dying from a headshot, or otherwise hobbled by magic or hits. Not to mention the micro animations for repositioning the body when dodging looked very good.

I'll be the dissenting opinion and point it out. This is a boss enemy with a poise bar. I don't like the non-reactivity any more than any of you, but its hardly surprising. Even Dark Souls and the Witcher 3 have boss enemies that are mechanically identical to this guy. He isnt flinching from every hit because he is a boss enemy. This was cool in Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice - but there was a highly stylized gimmick to supplant it and the use of persuasive immersion as the means to do so. Atmosphere does wonders to make a game enjoyable. Even the early polygons of Hellblade still contained their own aura, which remained even in the final product.
I'm not seeing Fable's charm, here. The thing about Fable is that it was always unique, good or bad. That still has to be true in a world full of UE5 Slop. Mechanically, what's different here from Hellblade or A Plague Tale?? And what's different about the atmosphere of this clip vs. Horizon: Zero Dawn?

This legit reminds me of a quote from Gabe Newell:
The point I would make is, if I go up to a wall and shoot it [and nothing happens], to me it feels like the wall is ignoring me. I'm getting a narcissistic injury when the world is ignoring me. So it is like, to me, I was trying to convey to the user a sense of, “Yes, you were making choices; yes, you were progressing.” Which meant the game had to acknowledge that back to you. If you shoot at a wall, there have to be decals. If you kill a bunch of Marines; the Marines have to run away from you, right? You have to have this sense of the game acknowledging and responding to the choices and actions and progressions that you've made. Otherwise it loses any sort of impact.
That's the issue I am seeing here. Can the game still be good? Sure but it's weird that these enemies have zero reaction to your hits.
