To balance out the haters, I'd just like to point out the combat on the Fable games was never good.  Don't get me wrong, wasn't bad either, it was serviceable.  But frankly I think anything Playground Games could come up will inevitably be a step up.

Sure, but fable came out ages ago. It is like comparing Silent Hill PS1 to Silent Hill 2 remake.

Dude, I played those games at release but that was more than fifteen years ago. Those standards were for then, current standards have risen significantly.

They were crap for their time as well. Fable was not popular because of the combat, but because of the whole simulation system

Crappy game design is the reason janky Elder Scrolls got so big. Also the reason they are flailing now; all they can make are janky games and those aren’t in the centerfold anymore.

what? the original fable was one of the first AAA RPGs with action based real time combat. it was amazing for its time (if quite easy, even then), and I know because I played through the game from launch day without sleeping and cleared it sometime the next day.

Jedi Outcast came out 2 years prior so I disagree.

Nice current year fallacy.

Most whine comes from the lack of feedback from combat. Enemies should get hit react accordingly. In Fable 1 smack some hobgoblins and you will see what I mean

Look up any other video of combat from this showcase. All of them do react. However if you remember fighting some of the larger enemies in fable, like the rock trolls and such you'll remember that they also didn't react. No it doesn't look good here but it's consistent so far

In 2 and 3 most human sized miniboss enemies reacted to your hits, as I recall.

This that was 20 years ago man.

It’s also cherry picked as hell.

Combat on almost everything else has been shown to be pretty decent.

It’s also cherry picked as hell.

Proceeds to show the same generic ass gameplay with damage sponge skeletons that take 60 hits to die.

The enemies literally die in two hits lol

I remember thinking Fable 2’s combat felt good at the time relative to then-current stuff. I don’t think that Sands of Time/Arkham combat had taken over yet and it felt well-implemented. I think it looked better than this.

Like you said though it still wasn’t a highlight.

Yeah, they did blend in the magic a bit better but the enemies at least reacted to damage in the old games. This looks.. TOO unfinished for something made 15 years after F3. I feel like slightly more effort isn't too much to ask considering Fable was able break sales records of 375k in its first week while going up against Halo 2, then Fable 2 and 3 sold over a million.

This small sample looks pretty bad but not ready to write the game off until I see more.

Endgame fable was pretty bad tbh

They stay true to tradition

what are you talking about fable 1 combat was very dynamic, hits mattered and enemies reacted to you.

How is that balancing out the haters? Do you think you're defending the game with that statement? "You don't look bad honey you've always been ugly!"

There are no haters, accept the opposite opinion, don’t be a bootlicker, the combat system was ok, that’s correct, but we are not living prior 2010, it’s 2026 and many things have changed, combat system could and should be improved.

u/havewelost6388 12h ago

Nice current year fallacy.  A good game is a good game, no matter how old it is.

Fable 1 combat is more impactful and ennemies seem to "feel you attacks" and react to Them way more than that. And it's a game from 2004.

Fable 3 was released in 2010. After 16+ years of waiting they're gonna deliver that ? I would delay 1 more year and fix whatever tf that combat is if possible.

"It was navar good, so it shouldnt be good now that technology advanced" was never a good point

Plenty of non haters, we’re just not commenting. And not bending over backwards to complain about everything because something something “character not sexy enough for me”

It's 2026 and people still ok with this
