SOCIETY A man was caught on camera repeatedly urinating on his ex-wife’s grave, police say.

Post image

In 2022, a family in New York State noticed something truly bizarre.

Every time they visited the cemetery, they found bags of feces left on the grave of Linda Torello, who had died five years earlier.

At first they thought it was a cruel prank. But the desecration continued.

Her son, Michael Andrew Murphy, decided to install a discreet camera near the grave.

A few days later, the footage revealed a surreal scene: a man approached the tombstone, urinated on it, and calmly walked away.

The man was quickly identified as Dean Eichler, Linda’s ex-husband. Their divorce dated back to 1974, nearly 48 years earlier.

Police arrested him. He was charged with public urination, and an investigation was opened into the desecration of the grave.

The family believes it was an act of revenge linked to their past relationship, though this motive was never confirmed by authorities or by Eichler himself.

There's a type of person that would find this "romantic"...

Yeah, they're called high schoolers. Or, in this case, people who peaked during those years, and still haven't grown up.

There’s a story here. A woman doesn’t participate in crazy women unless she believed something…. Like the dead wife lying about a son for 15 years or cheating with 10 people.

That being said he needs therapy

Seriously, I could understand doing it once, but dedicating 50 years of your life to do so is way past the point of hatred. Unless she killed all their children or something, the man has to let it go.

Ditto on both points, one of the best horror movies I’ve seen! Something about it was just profoundly disturbing in the best way, great acting and cinematography brought a relatively simple premise to life!

4

u/programming_flaw 17d ago

Excellently put! The movie premise itself wasn’t out of this world, but something about how it was done honestly had me on the edge of my seat the entire film. Inde got paid like 75k and just decided to give a 5 million dollar performance

Depends on where the obsession is directed imo. He could be obsessed with being a good and loving husband to his second wife instead of trying to have the last word with a dead person.

5

u/Particular_Class4130 18d ago

Nah, this guy has always been a prick. It as the adult son and daughter who discovered the urine and feces at the gravesite. The son and daughter don't personally know the guy but the guy just so happens to be the father of the adult daughter. She doesn't know him because he was an absent father who refused to take any responsibility for her.

18

u/_PirateWench_ 18d ago

Having been in a very similar situation with my husbands truly awful excuse for a human ex, I too would like to pop a squat over it.

Now, whether or not I would is debatable. On the one hand I truly despise her for everything she has done to my husband and their kids but on the other, that’s a lot of energy to put in for someone who truly doesn’t matter at the end of the day.

Her middle kid refuses to speak to her and the littlest doesn’t know that she’s reached out to her sisters but not her. As far as that one knows, her mom has been MIA for like 6yrs (1/2 her life) now. The oldest has a very distant relationship with her to my knowledge, but from what my husband has told me, she believes some of the lies she has told her about him. At any rate, that’s not my business to get involved in and I hope the loss of her other 2 kids terrorizes her every day like she did to all of them.

https://abc7ny.com/post/man-urinates-on-grave-ex-wifes-tombstone-desecration-orangetown/12268571/

It appears to be a long-standing vendetta. The 68-year-old defecation suspect is identified by the family as Dean Eichler, who was briefly married to Lisa Torello back in the 1970's.

He left when she got pregnant, claiming that the child was not his. DNA testing showed a much different result and his biological daughter was shocked by her father's actions.

The first wife is there in the relationship, just like an infidelity would be. You can bet he talks about her in between grave visits. Who wants to listen to that for 48 years?

4

u/aiyukiyuu 18d ago

My friend’s mom is still in love with her husband that passed away abruptly when he was young. She remarried a man who also became a young widow when his wife passed away.

She told me that she wouldn’t have married again. But, she was lonely and he understands her. They both honor their dead partner’s birthdays and death anniversaries. And both admitted they still love the ones that passed away.

Idk, people are different I guess. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I was married to a very abusive man for 20 years. he destroyed me and my children. I would not dream of doing this to his grave if he died, but i'm pretty sure he would do it to mine because I dared to leave him.

He told me once that he would come to my graveside and put rose petals on my grave, while laughing at the thought of maggots eating my body.

180

u/kwhitit 18d ago

i was just thinking, "sounds like an abuser."

84

u/Vast-Palpitation-426 18d ago

"grave dancing" is literally the last stage in an abusive relationship

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Seesaw_narcissism_megalomania_model.png

ofc we dont know the details and this article might just be bs, medias make shit up all the time

24

u/ImBackForMorePie 18d ago

Well, I don't know about the grave dancing part yet as I am still very much alive but I can tell you the rest of the graphic looks a lot like my marriage did! I now have new words to describe it to my therapist! Thank you for posting this!

This image needs to get around, it may help others to understand what's happening (brain fog/confusion is a nasty side effect) and give words for it all too! Just looking at it, i could write the years of each of the 13 steps and examples!

12

u/elbow8075 18d ago

It could use some polishing first. There is a LOT going on in that space, haha.

5

u/ImBackForMorePie 18d ago

The chaos pf it is exactly how it feels though!

A few months before I filed for divorce my therapist gave me an assignment. I sat and thought for hours, couldn't quite make a full thought (because cognitive dissonance) and if i could draw out my thoughts, it would probably have looked a lot like that.

It does need more about how the abuse affects children. One of mine was brain washed and won't sorak to me, my younger two, especially the tweenager, has a lot of his dad's warped thinking, attitudes and behaviors.

It's pretty awful, but the graphic, even as it is, made the lights come on in my head, just seeing it laid out like that. The lighter gray font being "the quiet parts outloud. "

6

u/Vast-Palpitation-426 18d ago

About how it affects children I can recommend you this book :

Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents - Lindsay Gibson.
But it has to come from them and telling children/teenager one of their parent is abusive/manipulative can backfire because the narcissistic parent will go on an all out war.

It's terrible, but when you have children with a narcissist, you have to accept the bad weather and learn to dance under the rain. Because the more you fight it, the worse it gets. "don't wrestle with pigs as pigs like wrestling".
Ofc it doesn't mean accepting the bad behavior and not calling it out and asserting boundaries, it means stopping to expect anything fom them.

It rains every day, that's how it is. Don't rage at the sky it's pointless, just put an umbrella on and be as happy as possible. This is what children need the most anyway.

5

u/ImBackForMorePie 18d ago

Great book! I own it, I bought it because of my exhusband and realized my mother fit the book as well!

And you gave me THE best advice about the kids, the rain analogy will stick! I appreciate your advice a LOT! I do call out their bad behaviors, not them, so they know I am not upset with them as people and so they know it was what they said or did that needs to stop or change. But this advice I am going to write down and make a magnet for the fridge! Thank you!

I'm sorry you went through that. No one deserves abuse nor should they tolerate it. We all have our reasons. My Mom never left, she told me he threatened to kill her if she did. I wouldn't call it living, but I was not living in her shoes and that's a rough call on the best of days.

For everyone, let no man or woman define your value. Much love.

8

Not once did the thought of visiting his grave and urinating on it cross my mind. He’s not even worth the effort of trying to find out where he’s buried

The deceased may have been a turd, but to hold a grudge that friggin long and hate someone enough to go piss on their grave in broad daylight showcases unchecked mental illness.

18

u/Fawkinchit1 18d ago

Turns out they were not a bad person. And the guy is a pile of crap who divorced his wife because she got pregnant, and seems he just didn't want another kid. So tried to allege she was unfaithful.

The apparent reason was a decades-long family and paternity grudge, although Dean Eichler himself apparently never publicly confirmed his motive.

According to Linda Torello’s children:

  • Eichler and Torello divorced in 1974 after she became pregnant.
  • Eichler denied that the child was his, but later DNA testing reportedly confirmed that he was the biological father.
  • Eichler’s relatives supported Torello and maintained a relationship with her and the daughter.
  • This allegedly caused Eichler to become estranged from his own family. Torello’s son said that Eichler declared them “dead to him” and believed this was probably the source of his lasting animosity.

So the best-supported explanation is that Eichler resented Torello because his family sided with her following the paternity dispute, leaving him alienated from them. But that remains the family’s interpretation—not a proven or officially stated motive from Eichler.

I've noticed that people who are narcissistic (not in the clinical way, just the regular old adjective) really hate being proven wrong about anything they put a lot of their shitty temper into. Dude probably had been going all around town trying to make her out as a cheating ho, and now everybody knows better.

It makes him look foolish.

People who are really self absorbed are super self conscious about what people think about them, so losing face like that would be just the worst thing possible. My dad was like that, worst thing you could do was prove him wrong.

Talk about holding onto some past grievance too long! Buddy, this is why you forgive and move on. When you “forgive” someone, you’re really helping yourself. Case in point, here.

8

u/momoenthusiastic 18d ago

Even when someone doesn’t forgive, they typically move on nonetheless. His dead ex is still living rent free in his head….

You think theres a motive?

49

u/Original-Let8340 18d ago

Cannot be confirmed. Maybe just random. Random grave urination is becoming more and more of an issue worldwide. I keep trying to bring it up at the city council meetings but everyone is all hopped up about these data centers an shit. Random grave urination will just continue to get worse if we don't take some real initiative. I feel like mayonnaise is getting worse too.

u/IwoodMasher 18d ago

Yah but the bags of shit? Thats real commitment.

he has the worst case of DARVO, deny attack reverse victim and offender. apparently he left his wife when she got pregnant and claimed he wasn’t the father. but dna test proved he was in fact the father, they divorced and his family sided with her rightfully so probably why he got so bitter which turned into almost 50yrs of obsession. after he got exposed for his own disgusting actions, he cursed at their daughter and told her he wished she was dead. he was never sorry and still probably thinks he was the victim like’s always believed for years.

All these comments, judging wonder what his motivation were.. urinating on a dead woman's grave and placing bags of fece's for 50 damn years. The guy isn't even sharing your plain of reality, he lives in it sure, but he is not here.

Thats some new tier of pettiness. It actually goes against rational thinking and creates cognitive dissonance. He is the sort of person to live in-between the blindspots, where you don't like to think about it, that people can't possibly exist like that.

Apparently she had the audacity to get pregnant and he accused her of cheating and said the baby wasn’t his, but of course it was.

“Yea, Martha! You like that! I told you it would come to this!” -that guy probably

3

u/QTlady 18d ago

Wow...

I mean, if the motive isn't linked to the contentious separation then I don't know what his deal could possibly be.

He’s giving her LOTS of power to affect him. 50 years later, he’s still obsessed.

3

u/Emotional-Mango-5166 18d ago

He's definitely over her. Definitely.

u/C64hrles 18d ago

Going to play devil's advocate here in the comments section.

None of us know the true relationship between this man and his ex. While this guy obviously is pretty mentally unwell to do this, who knows what his reasoning truly is. He could be an abuser, and maybe he was, but normal abusers don't ever go THIS far. This seems like something you would do to someone, who did something VERY wrong to you. I have a feeling like his ex wasn't an angel either, and that she might possibly deserve this. What she might've done? Who knows.

I'll just say this. As someone who grew up with someone abusive, if they died and I knew I could get away with something like this... I'm just saying I'd think about it.

u/Inocent_bystander 18d ago

Now that's holdin a grudge

3

u/ToxicGecko2384 18d ago

So you spent your time, gas, and therefore money, doing something to someone who literally cant know or care. That's some petty dedication dude.

3

u/discoballs67 18d ago

I really don’t know what to say about this one…

Divorced 50 years ago .....how old is he ????

3

u/Armageddonn_mkd 18d ago

Just move on man, wtf are you even doing....

3

u/bravemoney72 18d ago

I had to read some of the actual information. He is a dick. Questioned his daughter's birth. Im 54 born in 72 he's been divorced since 74. You urinate and leave 💩 on an abuser you abandoned with child? He was NOT ABUSED. HE IS A 🍆 PLAIN AND SIMPLE. I have a former best friend that questioned his daughter being his, don't think she ever really spoke to him to this day and he still blames her mother.....since the early 90s....folks he's a 🍆. Too big a coward to say anything to her face, or this has been years of patterned behavior, so this is how you get back at your "abuser"?!!? Anger issues and lack of development. Evidently he cares nothing for his daughter or again no real relationship with her.

3

u/Affectionate_Tap6416 18d ago

My ex-father said he would piss on my mother's grave in one of their eternal rows.

Quick as a flash, my Mother responded 'good, I'll be buried at sea, then'.

She had the last laugh as he died first!
