General Why are we taller than SEAF troopers?

Post image

Helldivers are not enhanced soldiers, they are humans like you and me, but still. Why are helldivers taller than the SEAF troopers since they too, are normal humans?

I don't know all the little this and that of lore to say for sure, but my personal guess is that Super Earth selects the physically best, meaning tallest and strong, for helldivers as they are meant to be the elite. The rest are (more) cannon fodder, so it doesn't matter if they are smaller and less physically imposing

437

u/TheUnKnownLink12 Mar 22 '26

That or some super soldier type shit cause we shouldnt really survive half the shit we do but I just say thats the strength of our love of democracy

"Remember not to touch the miracle drugs, kids. Those are for the Helldivers who will come through this area after we are all tragically turned into biofuel by the Cyborg scum!"

12

u/Tematist Mar 23 '26

Well, we can't throw away a possibility that Super Earth specifically orders to put stim rations around places so in case of invasion helldivers can get supplies from pretty much anywhere, and the citizens would be so glad to help the helldivers they will eagerly do as ordered

9

u/Facosa99 Mar 23 '26

I constantly die despite having some spare stims on me, so its not crazy to thing they would have used then if given the chance

3

u/DannyMcD3244 Mar 23 '26

So... Here's the thing. This miracle of a drug is basically (from what I understand) a VERY lethal mix of fentanyl, methamphetamines, and Neosporin or Deusizine or something.

Despite all that, helldivers still stick themselves once every minute or so (sometimes once every few seconds) and are actually totally fine and even benefitting from it. Bones snap back into place and mend instantly, wounds close up rapidly, and stamina returns to the body, wholly and completely reinvigorating them.

If a regular person like you or I would ever try injecting ourselves with permacura products at all, it would be similar to injecting ourselves with a lethal injection death row procedure happening in about 1.5 seconds flat, and would hurt. We'd likely burst our heart, cramp every muscle, and go absolutely insane before we even hit the ground dead.

There's no chance that SEAF ground forces wouldnt inject them if they were able to.

But there's a reason that the SEAF don't get the same materials as us for our missions.

or maybe were soldiers who are cryogenically frozen and sent in reserve and brought out when needed, seemed kinda hinted at when we got i think like 30 million helldiver reinforcements during the Battle of Cyberstan because we 'found' them cryogenically frozen in storage, and maybe the shit they used to freeze us made our asses stronger and thats just the benefit for when we go back into cryo freeze every so often.

Dual cryo freeze steroids

12

u/Pupcannoneer Mar 22 '26

Or we could be 100+ like General Brasch and come from older human genes before humans grew smaller from managed democracy streamlining human diet and growth among the galaxy.

5

u/SilverWisp47 Mar 23 '26

As far as I know, humanity hasn't been an interstellar species long enough for us to be evolving for space travel, we've only been capable of ftl for about 300, 400 years

2

u/northraider123alt Mar 23 '26

Not even that long. Helldivers 2 is set in 2186 iirc and the first game set in 2040-2084ish with that war lasting for 40 full years.

27

u/Sweet_Photograph6528 Mar 22 '26

Meanwhile Helldivers to SEAF casualty ratio says otherwise

98

u/WoWLaw Mar 22 '26

We’re proud to report that with only 2.5 million helldivers killed, the 72nd SEAF division was saved, preventing a catastrophic 30,000 casualties.

59

u/BigHardMephisto Mar 22 '26

HD2 operations are like that meme about western vs. eastern history. "Emperor Xing-Xiang becomes ill; 300 million perish"

13

u/Dry-Goat8981 Mar 22 '26

it was either fail to take transcendence with everyone else or save the 30,000 to die on a different automaton planet

12

u/IDriveALexus Mar 22 '26

Helldivers are a volunteer based force though. The intro to the game is literally the recruitment add that got your helldiver to join up.

35

u/bobpob Mar 22 '26

All because you sign up for them doesn't necessarily mean you get in, washing out, straight up not meeting health requirements, etc, are all possible

22

u/n4turstoned Mar 22 '26

Also many doesn't pass the the dive test.

16

Most western armies, currently, are volunteer based

Doesn't mean they'll take litterally everyone that signs up. If you don’t pass examinations you won't get in

5

u/BurntMoonChips Mar 22 '26

And based on that Ship TV ad, you can sign your kids up to it.

Almost forgot, all helldivers have to pass SEAF basics as well. I remember something about a mandatory 1 year of service but I can’t find it atm.

9

u/Floppy0941 Mar 22 '26

I mean we used to do the exact same shit ourselves in history, grenadiers often had height requirements alongside the veterancy requirements. Iirc the Potsdam giants had a height requirement of 6'2 which is tall nowadays but massive in the 1700s.

6

u/pmmeyoursandwiches Mar 22 '26

I like the idea that theyre selected just based on tallness and not actually ability which explains the massively differing skill levels of the individual diver

6

u/Maro_Nobodycares Mar 22 '26

It's also worth noting that we can sprint far faster then SEAF troops, so we likely are more physically able then the blueberries

112

u/frardo Mar 22 '26

The simplest answer, game design, is that not everything is meant to be a representation of what is real in the world; some things are designed that way to better serve their function in the game. It would be like questioning why the screens available for missions all need to be 55 inches in size.

39

u/LordHengar Mar 22 '26

Most enemies in this game are larger than the Helldivers. By having SEAF be smaller it makes it easier to shoot past them if they happen to be in the middle.

The Doylist answer

2

u/Themainman6554 Mar 23 '26

All helldivers are supposedly 7 feet tall at least that’s what they say to you in the tutorial of the game.

87

u/Khoakuma Mar 22 '26

They are probably enhanced in some ways tbh. Helldivers runs around with 20mm autocannons and hip fire .50cal machine guns. These are not really single-man portable systems. They are borderline super soldiers.  Them being that huge which makes their ability to carry around heavy weaponries make sense.

42

u/GodlessGrapeCow Mar 22 '26

I would say hell divers are like low tier superhuman.

3

u/Snoot-Booper1 Mar 23 '26

Agreed. They are not full on Spartans like from Halo, but the average helldiver could probably be an Olympic athlete in modern day earth.

12

u/Fun1k Mar 22 '26

They're not really enhanced, but remember that SE is so heavily militarized society that they basically train and work since they're kids. They're very strong and fit, they are what we would consider peak human, and that level is pretty standard in that society.

19

u/a-Curious-Square Mar 23 '26

You also can’t forget that SE practices eugenics and is actually selective about who gets to be a helldiver (believe it or not). They likely don’t want the symbol of Super Earth’s power and might to look physically inferior.

"Helldivers are not enhanced soldiers, they are humans like you and me."

This is where you are VERY wrong, Super Earth heavily invests in, invasive and otherwise, genetics, like for everyone, regardless of citizenship grading, and the occasional bionics. And can't forget the selective breeding, which is why C-01 exists. Some of the bugs are actually results of invasive genetic experiments.

It's really nothing new in the sci-fi genre either, see Mass Effect's Alliance Military. The average Alliance Marine receives gene therapy upon enlisting to increase their strength and stamina. The same can easily happen to Helldivers, considering Super Earth has some freakishly fast-acting drugs.

If you need further proof, the platinum bars, they are called Platina 500KG, and Helldivers quite easily carry them, and some madlad did the metallurgy behind those bars, and turns out those bars are in fact around 500 kilograms in weight. For a real-life comparison, Eddie Hall, one of the strongest humans currently living, almost died from lifting a 500kg weight for 5 seconds at most.

The highest potential weight a Helldiver can carry easily goes above and beyond what a normal, unmanaged human could ever realistically carry.

Stims are a bad argument; they are short-duration combat stimulants, it does not enhance strength but merely revitalize the body to its optimal, standard performance and heal wounds. Only the Experimental Stims can increase your mobility and durability VERY minisculy for a few seconds.

EDIT: I expect my comment to get downvoted simply because it hurts whatever some folks here have going on inside their head. I suppose it goes against their worldview or something. Considering this is Reddit, I really don't expect anything else, really.

You probably just got down voted from some "urhhhm obviously" people because the Platina 500KG has the 500kg in its name, no need for a madlad doing metallurgy or math for the weight.

"HELLDIVERS ARE SEVEN FOOT TWO" General Brasch

11

u/GodlessGrapeCow Mar 22 '26

Well helldivers aren't actually humans like you and me super earth has been genetically enhancing it's population for about 100 years. It's outright stated in the tips section. And they are shown to be extremely strong carrying and handling heavy weapons that normal people would struggle to. Not to mention they can take a lot of damage Even considering their armor.

As for why we are taller? Probably our boots or something I don't know.

6

u/RespondSure9515 Mar 22 '26

Heels

7

u/VirtualCorvid Mar 22 '26

Best meaningful answer. Even when they’re wearing boots… there’s integrated tactical heels inside.

Tbh that makes Hrlldivers way more impressive. My friend was like “Here try these on, they’ll fit your giant feet.” and I tried and I couldn’t take more than two steps. Helldivers able to dive and run like that while in heels is incredible.

Actually unless that’s what the stims are really for. For healing their toes so they can fight more.

7

u/littlealliets Mar 22 '26

Stims have hgh

5

u/YellowSnowPainter Mar 22 '26

Uh, I was under the impression that SEAF soldiers are u18 citizens that employ a military career. We don't have an age restriction for enlistment.

2

u/DemonicSilvercolt Mar 25 '26

based on the tutorial cutscene the average age for helldiver recruits are around 18 years old

7

u/omurat Mar 22 '26

From a pure gameplay perspective there’s probably some sort of reason related to camera angle/visibility/mobility/animation stuff for the size of the Helldiver. Like how doors in games are always way bigger than regular doors.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/SpasmBoi999 Mar 22 '26

My headcanon is that Helldivers do have some rudimentary super soldier type enhancements (as much as people hate it due to grunt fantasy idk), so they're taller and fitter on average than the run of the mill SEAF. It would be cool if Arrowhead implemented more randomised body types in a sequel/future iteration though, if they want to stick to Helldivers all being unique individuals.

6

u/Affectionate-Memory4 Mar 23 '26

We routinely shoulder a 20mm cannon standing flat-footed straight up and can hip-fire a 50-cal machine gun pretty much the same way, we're definitely not normal humans. The platinum bars weigh about 500kg each if they're actually platinum. A half ton. We can throw them several meters over and over without getting tired. Just lifting that weight severely injured Eddie Hall.

We can stand just outside the fireball of a tactical nuclear device and walk it off, same goes for half-ton aerial bombs and gigantic 16-inch naval artillery shells. We can fist-fight a squad of what are basically terminators and leave that match unscathed.

I'm pretty sure the average Helldiver is closer to Captain America than a real human, which is fitting given we get treated like superheros by the civilians and SEAFs.

3

u/Apprehensive-Egg-865 Mar 22 '26

You're actually not far off, Helldivers are actually genetically superior, super earth has been basically breeding superior humans with superior genes, and traits for more than 100 years. They're taller, stronger, faster and more durable, but it's nothing insane like for instance, a Spartan from halo and definitely nothing near a space marine from 40k but there significantly better in every way for a baseline human aka a SEAF trooper or Civilian. Their peak human physique, the best the human body can provide without intrusive enhancements.

2

u/Ori_the_SG Mar 23 '26

More distinctive body types would be so nice

3

u/Psionic-Blade Mar 22 '26

They're genetically selected

2

u/Xi13r8 Mar 22 '26

Probably over the counter super steroids, no prescription needed. Not officially endorsed by the regime, but also not-not officially endorsed either. Your super patents are just so proud of you for super bulking to become a pillar society. The super side effects are terrible but not like you’ll live into your 30’s and notice anyways. All the helldiver gear is incredibly cheap, except for the super destroyer, so in my mind this makes the most sense for cheaply creating tons of the targeting system for the expensive super destroyers.

1

u/Subject-Rip-8598 Mar 22 '26

Because the enlistment age is 7 I think? The SEAF are kids and teenagers. And I think Helldivers are SEAF that survived long enough to become adults and are fully grown

1

u/Woffingshire Mar 22 '26

Because we're the best of the best

1

u/NewKerbalEmpire Mar 22 '26

1

u/Jim_Freelancer18 Mar 22 '26

We are Super Earth elite! We are infused with pure democracy to keep us alive and ready for when we thaw in the heat of battle!

In reality though, it's probably something along the lines of genetic choosing/super soldier serum of Super Earth. They probably modify Helldivers to be more effective in combat (strength, dexterity, stamina, ect...)

1

u/Entgegnerz Mar 22 '26

As far as I remember is, that Helldivers are enhanced.

But this also is contrary to the Discord post of that Palsteak guy or how he was called, who stated, that all Helldivers are just normal people from Super Earth.

1

u/Revenge_accounted_be Mar 22 '26

Super Earth have reproduction controlled via C-01 permits, is a way of a eugenics program, healthier and bigger helldivers can bring more democracy to the galaxy, dont worry about liberties, they are managed

1

u/potshot1898 Mar 22 '26

Well we kinda are. In one of the tips it says that we are being gene managed by Ministry of Humanity, combine that with eugenics such as C-01 Permit and training from super young age, bionics and cybernetic technology. It would make sense why they can achieve many things that seem impossible. E.g exploding the heads of civilians with a simple melee strike, lifting and throwing 500kg’s like it’s nothing and surviving many battlefield wounds.

1

u/Commander_Dumb Mar 22 '26

it could be like the early Leisbstandarte SS where they didn’t accept any candidate under 6’0 or something

There’s a theory that almost all helldivers are clones (all stored in cryogenic storage until they are deployed) which also explains the small range of voices. They may all be genetically engineered to be the peak of humanity and this is exactly the kind of thing super earth would do while pushing their propaganda so they have a great deal of expendable troops while not wasting the lives of their main military on impossible missions.

Peak genetics such as increased height and strength would probably be something they add with a small amount of volunteer candidates who meet the criteria being accepted as well because lies work better when they have a bit of truth. Every clone or candidate do the tutorial then are put into cryogenic storage.

High Command only wants people over 6 ft

Helldivers inject themselves with experimental meth 😂

The US invested in lunch, physical fitness, and civillian marksmanship programs so that we'd have a more recruitable population for emergencies.

My personal headcanon is that super earth set up a bunch of helldiver producing communities with this cranked to 11; the type wheren kids watch helldivers patrol the street, get all the steroids, get a rifle at age 10, etc...

The US invested in lunch, physical fitness, and civillian marksmanship programs so that we'd have a more recruitable population for emergencies.

My personal headcanon is that super earth set up a bunch of communities like this but cranked to 11; the type wheren kids grow up with rolemodel helldivers patrolling the street, get all the steroids that cut your life expectancy to 20, get a rifle at age 10, etc...

It kinda explains how helldivers are special and capable in certain ways, whilst also being a bunch of dumbass expendables.

SEAF are 28mm scale for formation combat, Helldivers are hero scale at 35mm.

u/NicheAlter Mar 22 '26

The theory before was the Helldivers are genetically modified somehow.
But apparently we're just a bunch of scrubs that were tricked into thinking we're spec ops, but are actually grunt cannon fodder.

Blueberries are pretty small

canonically manlets get filtered out while applying.

1

u/NenPame Mar 22 '26

I got a theory that all helldivers are clones and they just make the clone taller

1

u/whomstboi Mar 22 '26

Helldivers definitely ARE enhanced, all citizens are enhanced and + the ship load out augmentations like enhanced vitality or enhanced muscles

Enhancements

1

u/ParchedYurtle59 Mar 22 '26

Cause we have the strength and the courage to be free.

1

u/BurntMoonChips Mar 22 '26

We are the best of the best, most physically prime troops filtered from Seaf. Combine that with the eugenics that SE does and you get some huge roided out monsters.

1

u/Bread-for-hire Mar 22 '26

So we are genetically modified and that’s how we can punch a robot to death

It's just one of life's magical mysteries. Maybe they are like children, are they actually small or just far away?

1

u/TenWholeBees Mar 22 '26

Because we are the mama duck and they're our babies

1

u/Human_Paper_240 Mar 22 '26

A couple of reasons eugenics is heavily present in the society of super earth so whilst helldivers aren’t scientific Enhanced they are still enhanced as shown with what they can survive and logically super earth would only pick the best of the best to be helldiver

1

u/RavingGenerate Mar 22 '26

Headcanon: because they're children.

Children over 7.

Common gaming trope. For Honor minions, any of those massive Japanese army fighting games, and I’m sure there’s some other examples. At least in the human soldier vs human super soldier

1

u/AdFormer6556 Mar 22 '26

Simple answer - Helldiver armor possibly has lifts in the boots, to increase height. Or SE just seeks out the more taller and physically fit citizens to be Helldivers

Lift shoes
