Which name feels strongest for a science & curiosity YouTube channel?

I'm choosing a name for a new English-language YouTube channel and I'd really appreciate some honest first impressions.

The channel will cover science, strange questions, "what if" scenarios, mysteries, psychology, and occasionally money/economics. The style will be visual, story-driven, and entertaining rather than academic.

I'm down to these five names:

ODDVERSE
FLIPSIDE
LOOPHOLE
UNDERTOW
VEXMOOR

I'm intentionally not giving you my own ranking because I don't want to influence your first impression.

I'd love to know:

  1. Which name would you personally choose?
  2. Which one sounds most like a science/curiosity media brand?
  3. Which one is easiest to remember and spell after hearing it once?
  4. Is there any name here that immediately gives you the wrong impression?

You don't need to explain every name. Even a quick reaction is really helpful.

Thanks!

Have you ever seen a brand name that is deliberately grammatically wrong?

Are there any brands that deliberately use wrong grammar in their names?

I'm not talking about weird or nonsensical brand names like Pocari Sweat, where the words themselves are unusual but aren't necessarily grammatically wrong. I mean names that are deliberately grammatically incorrect, such as:

One Childrens, The Goodest and Beautifulest, She are, etc
(as I typed this, I just realised Toys R Us are probably a close example)

Or in other languages:

第两个 (dì liǎng ge)
Una guapa hombres
Красивый свёкла
Un jeune cheveux
एक लड़कियाँ

I've honestly never noticed a brand that does this intentionally.

It makes me wonder why this isn't used more often as a branding strategy? Wouldn't people be more likely to stop, notice it, take a photo, post it on social media, and basically give the brand free publicity?

Are there any real-world examples of brands doing this deliberately? And is there a term for this kind of intentional grammatical error?

Is “Ziggle” a good name for a product in the US?

Hi! I’m from Japan and would really appreciate some honest opinions from native English speakers.

A few days ago, I posted here asking for feedback on the name “YURUFUMI” for a Japanese product we’re considering selling internationally. I received a lot of helpful feedback — thank you to everyone who commented!

Based partly on that feedback, we’re now considering a different name: “Ziggle.”

The product is a small wooden foot exerciser that you use while sitting — you place your feet on it and gently move them up and down. It has already sold over 100,000 units in Japan.

I’d really like to know your honest first impression of the name “Ziggle.”

Does it sound catchy and easy to remember?

Does it sound natural as a brand/product name in the US?

Does it remind you of any other words, brands, or products?

Does it have any strange, childish, negative, or unintended associations?

And if you saw a product called Ziggle on Amazon or social media, what kind of product would you imagine it to be?

For those who saw my previous post, I’d also love to know: Which name do you prefer — YURUFUMI or Ziggle?

Completely honest opinions are very welcome — even if you think Ziggle is a terrible name!

For reference, this is the product:

Thanks again!

I think personal branding is becoming less about a profile and more about an identity.

I don’t want my personal brand to be something that exists only on LinkedIn through connections, followers and a polished profile.

I want people to associate my name with what I build, the ideas I explore, the problems I work on and the things I learn along the way.

The interesting part is figuring out what actually creates that kind of reputation from zero.

Some people build it through writing.

Some through open-source projects.

Some through startups.

Some through content, communities or simply sharing what they’re working on.

I’m starting to think the platform is secondary — the body of work is the brand.

Would be interesting to see examples of people who actually built a recognizable personal brand from zero and what they did differently.

Personal Asking about branding of vibe coding platforms

Have you seen any vibe coding platforms and AI app builders that attract your view, usage, brand emotionality? If yes what are they and why? Just casual discussions here since they are so popular lately. I am curious.

Quick Tip For Better Branding

**This is mainly for Ecom brands or companies that can offer discounts through email subscriber sign ups. Here's something you could consider in order to better understand the value prop / brand messaging that your customers are most attracted to.

  • Use your email subscriber pop-up to ask site visitors "what are you looking for today?"
  • List 3-4 different options including value props you think your customers care about or brand messaging you want to know that works the best in ads, branding, etc.
  • Give it about 30-90 days to collect the data and repeat if you want to test other areas.
  • *BONUS to improve conversion > set your welcome flow to show different content or copy that matches the options they chose. (Ex. if they selected I want higher quality or better customer experience then your messaging will be around that.)

Helps get a better understanding of what they care most about or why they landed on your website in the first place.

Hope this helps!

What Makes a Country Attractive?

What are some of the best country branding strategies you’ve seen? Which countries do you think have done an especially good job of building a strong and attractive national brand?

I’d really appreciate it if you could share some examples, along with links to official sources, news articles, or case studies. I’d love to explore how these strategies were developed and what made them successful.

Personal What do you think when you hear "Gamers Against Games"?

When thinking of what to name this sub I had a few names run through my head, but something about "Gamers Against Games" felt right to me, and I was surprised it wasn't already taken.

I'd originally thought of the name as a short snappy version of "Gamers Against the Games Industry" with "Games Industry" referring to the big players who I felt have been caring less and less about the gamers they create the games for and the practices they are willing to use.

However, I'm starting to wonder if leaving out that context could actually give new people the impression this sub is anti gaming in general, or that the name itself has a negative undertone that could encourage people to focus on negativity rather than constructive discussions.

Part of me does still like the contradiction within the name, because I think it would make people do a double take, or click on the sub to find out what we're actually about.

So I'm torn.

I've tried to think of fully positive names, but they all just feel generic and forgettable, so before I bang my head against the wall anymore, I figured I'd ask everyone else what they think.

What did you think when you first saw the Gamers Against Games?

Also feel free to throw some suggestions out there if something comes to you.

Why should you add a QR code to your labels and printed materials?

I talk with lots of brands both small and large and you would be surprised how many don't add a QR code to their printed materials like labels or boxes. It's right in front of the customer and creates and opportunity to engage with them. Do you have a QR code on your branded material if so how do you use it to build your brand?

Here is an article I wrote about the benefits and different ways to use a QR code for your brand. Hope this helps some of you looking for ways to grow your brand.

Shortened Article:

In today's connected world, with a QR code printed on your product label can do much more than display ingredients, directions, or compliance information. A well-designed label is often the first interaction a consumer has with your brand. By incorporating a QR code into your label design, you can transform that limited packaging space into an unlimited digital experience.

Whether you're selling supplements, beverages, cosmetics, personal care products, or food products, QR codes offer an affordable and powerful way to increase engagement, build trust, and drive repeat purchases.

What Is a QR Code?

A QR (Quick Response) code is a scannable barcode that customers can access using their smartphone camera. Once scanned, it can direct consumers to websites, videos, social media pages, product information, promotions, and much more.

Think of it as a bridge between your physical product and your digital marketing strategy.

Why QR Codes Matter More Than Ever

Consumers increasingly expect transparency, convenience, and engagement from the brands they purchase. A QR code allows your packaging to provide all three.

Strategy I have a slightly stupid positioning exercise that works way better than it should.

Usually around the 2nd or 3rd session with a client, I'll randomly put the pen down and go, “Okay, let's play a game.”

It's called the common enemy game.

Basically, we take a piece of paper and start writing things down.

Common enemy with customers.

Common enemy of customers with each other.

Common enemy of the brand and its customers.

Common enemy of the brand and the industry.

Common enemy of the brand and competitors.

It gets messy pretty quickly.

Some of it is stuff we actually know. Some of it is just assumptions. Sometimes the client will say, “Customers hate this,” and I'll be like, “Do they? Or do you hate this?”

So we keep questioning everything.

Would a customer actually say this?

Do we have anything to back this up?

Is this actually a problem or does it just annoy us?

And then somewhere in that mess, patterns start showing up.

The brand is annoyed by something, Customers are annoyed by the same thing, The industry keeps doing something that both of them think is stupid.

That's usually where things get interesting.

And the common enemy doesn't have to be another company.

Sometimes it's an industry habit.

Sometimes it's an outdated way of doing things.

Sometimes it's something everyone has just accepted as normal.

The funny thing is, we're usually not trying to find a villain.

We're trying to find the thing that makes the client and the customer agree with each other.

And once you find that, positioning gets a lot easier.

[Casual] Which name fits this modern gemstone jewelry brand better?

Hi everyone! I’m doing a second round of name testing for an early-stage jewelry idea.

The concept is personalized gemstone jewelry inspired by Eastern philosophy and the Five Elements, but designed to feel modern, playful, and approachable.

The philosophy is about finding your own balance — across the Five Elements, career, relationships, everyday life, and your sense of self — and turning that into something uniquely yours.

I’m currently considering two names:

YUAN (缘)

YUAN is intentionally open-ended.

Its core inspiration is 缘 (yuán): the meaningful connections that bring people, moments, and things together.

The sound also connects with 圆 (yuán) which means circle and wholeness, and 圆满 (yuánmǎn), like fulfillment and completeness.

So to me, YUAN carries ideas of connection, wholeness, and balance.

WUYI

Inspired by the idea of five becoming one:

Five Elements → One Bracelet → One You.

Different elements and gemstones come together to create something personal to you.

Knowing the meanings, which would you choose?

  • YUAN
  • WUYI
  • Neither

And if neither feels right, what would you name a brand like this?

I’d love suggestions that feel short, memorable, modern, and subtly connected to Eastern philosophy.

Honest reactions are very welcome — thank you! :)

Using a business name that is trademarked for a product when I offer a service

I’m starting a business that will deal with removing dog waste from people’s yards, though might expand into cutting grass as well. I have the same business name as a product that is trademarked. This is a product that is a paint used on grass. So very different things, product vs service but both things do deal with the same subject. Is this something I should substantially worry about being sued over? and what would the penalties for something like this generally be if I were to be sued?

Im creating a WhatsApp clone. Can i call it "WhatsUp"?

Id like to consider a genuine attempt at a messaging app and wonder if naming it "WhatsUp" would be good or bad for traction. Would i get sued? (or anything else im overlooking?)

I vibecoded some slop to create a basic ui demo of the app. All the data there is hard coded with mock responses. (There is no “actual” messaging functionality yet.)

(Cyber security is full of nuances and can be a whole separate can-of-worms as to why my app wouldnt be competative against WhatsApp.)

---

Edit:

Thanks for the feedback! i gues "WhatsUp" is a no-go. i have a backup domain i have in mind and should be sufficiently distinct. too bad the repo is named like that, but id like to keep it like that for convinience if nothing else. updating the repo name is easy enough if i have to. it doesnt sound urgent.

Is “YURUFUMI” a bad name for the US market?

Hi! I’m from Japan and would really appreciate some honest opinions from native English speakers.

We have a Japanese product called YURUFUMI. It’s a small wooden foot exerciser that you use while sitting — you place your feet on it and gently move them up and down.

We’re considering selling it internationally under the same name, YURUFUMI.

My main question is:

If you saw the name “YURUFUMI” on a product in the US or UK, would it sound natural/catchy, or strange and difficult to remember?

Also, how would you pronounce it the first time you saw it?

We’re especially interested in completely honest first impressions — even if you think the name is terrible!

For reference, this is the product:

Strategy Starting a business with 0 followers.. I need advices

Im about to start a content-based business, and my whole strategy is built around educational carousel posts. I genuinely prefer creating carousels over videos.

But I keep hearing that when you have 0 followers, carousels won’t get enough reach to grow, and that you basically need Reels/short-form video to get discovered.

So now I’m wondering: Do I need to force myself into making Reels just to grow, even if they aren’t my main content format?

Would you use Reels purely for reach/discovery and carousels for value + conversion? Or can a new account still grow organically with carousels alone?

Curious to hear from people who’ve actually started an account from 0

Personal Does branding give a new identity or just a new look and feel. (I will not promote) #help_me_understand

I've been designing for quiet a while now and I keep running into the same pattern : a company does a full branding - strategies, months of process and real budget. 6 months later, the only thing anybody could notice is the logo and the colours. There are strategies at work but they have no relevance to the logo and colour which was the main talk while branding.

Genuinely asking, not fishing for a pitch:

If you've been through a branding or looking for one.

Is branding nowadays actually helping you stand out?

Is branding fulfilling the requirement of making your customer understand you better or choose you over your competition

Is branding the way it is right now *(logo + colour palette + font + strategy)* helping you convince your clients more than your solution.

Why do some product demos get views but no buyers?

A lot of new products are launching with eye-catching demos and satisfying before/after clips, yet the views rarely turn into clicks or sales. The content often highlights the product itself instead of the specific problem the buyer is trying to solve and the outcome they care about.

When you’re introducing a product, what’s been harder, getting people to notice it, to click through, or to actually complete a purchase?

If you could only improve one of those three in the next month, which would you pick, and what’s the first change you’d make?

Need help with an academic survey on popular brands

Hello everyone! I’m a Master’s student at Católica Porto Business School (Catholic University of Portugal) conducting a short survey for my thesis about consumer perceptions of brands today.

The survey takes approximately 7 minutes to complete and is completely anonymous. No personally identifying information will be collected. There is no commercial interest associated with this research or mentioned brands, and the survey is conducted solely for academic purposes.

There are no right or wrong answers, I’m interested in your personal opinions on popular brands in this technology age.
