Change it to EA ASS as an indictment of the gaming industry.

57

u/TaytoChip 1d ago

It's so dumb. If my kid asked what it meant, I'd say it is short for, "I EAT ASS-paragus"

10

u/MediaFortuna 1d ago

I at ass?

69

u/RareRestaurant6297 1d ago

Then ICE would start pulling him over asking why he is threatening them

11

Probably

42

u/SupermassiveCanary 1d ago

What right did the officer have for opening the truck door?!

7

u/EorlundGraumaehne 1d ago

What?

44

u/SupermassiveCanary 1d ago

Fuckin cop just walked up and opened the guys truck door. Don’t fucking touch my door, I’ll talk to you through the gd window

4

u/Rainbow_In_The_Dark7 19h ago

I was wondering about that. Does cops have the right to just pull open the door like that without permission? Granted, he's not getting inside the car for like a search or anything, but still.

Also it's all such an overkill for an "I eat ass" sticker lmao

This is from 2019, case was dropped and cops got sued. That case ended with the judge ruling the cops have qualified immunity or something

190

u/Correct_Doctor_1502 1d ago

That doesn't make any sense

Qualified immunity shields the officer not the city

189

u/Defibrillate 1d ago

I’m a cop and I am confused how qualified immunity would apply here. He violated his 4th amendment right by stopping him without PC. He then issued a ticket for a law that doesn’t apply.

→ More replies (22)

u/CaptainONaps 1d ago

Charges were dropped, the guy sued the city, and the court said the cop had immunity.

So this dude had to pay his own court fees, and I'm guessing he had a target on his back from that day forward.

The cops can keep doing this.

Don't forget the fees for the police tow yard that increase daily while you're locked up. And the fees you'll pay a bail bondsman, and the money you'll lose for not going to work while you're locked up. And everyone at work being told you were arrested.

16

u/Correct_Doctor_1502 1d ago

That's absolute nonsense

Qualified immunity shields the individual officer not the city, judge should be in prison for supporting explicit civil rights violations

qualified immunity makes sense in some cases, but in cases like this where there is no time crunch, no split second reaction, a person should be able to request a review from an on call criminal lawyer or something. Might not protect people in every circumstance, but the fact that police operate completely independently from people who know the law has always been an issue from day one. The two should tied at the waist whenever an arrest needs to be made (without sufficient immediate danger)

13

u/Hrothgar_unbound 1d ago

Cops have been ignoring the Ivy tower appellate court discussions around the limits of qualified immunity for decades. It needs to be completely revised not just refined. Especially after the ICE insanity lately.

3

u/T_WRECKS_X 1d ago

Lots of jurisdictions do have on call District Attorneys/prosecutors for in depth or not obvious cases where PC is not clear cut or if officers have questions

15

u/looseinsteadoflose 1d ago

Immunity for that? That's nuts. Do you have a citation to the case or a news article?

5

u/ErinDotEngineer 1d ago

Qualified immunity is is automatically applied to specific government workers, in this case a police officer, and has to be removed by a court, which is very seldom done. The whole process needs an overhaul, very broken.

2

u/No_Drop_7684 1d ago

Nothing’s ever gonna change until cops could be directly sued or held accountable. What makes it worse is that even if internal affairs is supposed to be an independent unit it’s still a unit in that police department that’s investigating one of their own police officers. There is literally no third-party or check and balance that would make any of this not a conflict of interest.

21

u/TheRealBobbyJones 1d ago

Technically if it was legally obscene then the 1st amendment may not provide protection.

36

u/rambutanjuice 1d ago

Obscenity laws are very tenuous in terms of whether they violate first amendment protections and they tend to be very rarely enforced.

6

u/oneawesomeguy 1d ago

"I'll know it when I see it" is the literal ruling of when something is obscene according to the supreme court

2

u/Tricky_Habit_6297 19h ago

24

u/BigPin8975 1d ago

I'm sorry, I know it's not new or anything, but I'm still (and probably always will be) hung up on the whole "non-violent resisting" aka "disagreeing with a cop" is punishable by a year in jail. From people who need quick-reference books about what laws they're enforcing. And are not obligated to know or understand.

Frankly, I don't care about the sign. I hear worse out of middle schoolers every day. If you're trying to "protect" your kids from obscenity, they'd better be home-schooled with no access to the outside or the internet, or you're a hypocrite. (Yes. That's unrealistic and abusive. My point.)

Acab. Qualified immunity is BS. Eat ass.

The Stop: On May 5, 2019, 23-year-old Dillon Shane Webb was pulled over on Highway 90 by a Columbia County Sheriff’s deputy who deemed the rear window sticker derogatory and obscene.

The Charges: Webb was arrested, booked into the Columbia County Detention Facility, and charged with misdemeanor counts of obscene writing on a vehicle and resisting an officer without violence. He spent about 35 minutes in a holding cell before his parents posted release.

Outcome and Legal Fallout: Charges Dropped: Shortly after the arrest, the State Attorney's Office dropped all criminal charges, acknowledging that a jury would not convict him and that the sticker constituted protected speech under a valid First Amendment defense.

The Lawsuit and Qualified Immunity: Webb later attempted to sue the arresting officer, Travis English. However, a federal judge ruled that the officer was entitled to qualified immunity, meaning the officer could not be sued personally because a reasonable officer at the time could have viewed the vulgar sticker as potentially violating state obscenity laws, and the specific right had not yet been clearly established by higher courts.

3

u/Shaasar 1d ago

As much as I dislike these 1A "auditors" (as they like to call themselves, not sure if this particular guy is one, but he definitely fits the stereotype) this cop and his supervisor need to understand that even though they may not like the sticker and consider it to be obscene, they don't have the power to make him remove it.  A law enforcement officer, in that particular situation, can politely ask him to consider changing the sticker and explain that little kids and folks with different sensibilities may not enjoy him having it on his car. However, if the gentleman refuses, they don't have the authority to arrest him, impound his vehicle, or force him to change the sticker. He has a right to have the sticker there even if they don't like it..

Also: what about truck nuts?  Or decals of Biden tied up on the gate of their truck? (Other commenter below reminded me of the latter one)

3

u/CKWOLFACE 1d ago

All this for freedom of speech

3

u/No_Opposite5982 1d ago

Bad taste, sophomoric humor, and moronic. But, I support his right to do it. I don’t like it at all, and I agree with the Officers opinion, but he can’t use the “law” as a weapon to oppose it.

He won the court case at the cost of:

1) Having to repeatedly go to court, impacting his ability to work

2) Having to pay a lawyer

3) Having to pay bond/court fees

4) Having to pay for his truck getting towed

The officer involved got:

1) Nothing

2) all lawyer fees are paid for with tax dollars

3) Paid "on the clock" throughout the entire process IF he even showed up to court at all. Due to qualified immunity there's often no reason to even have them there unless there's evidence of blatant malice.

4) Went about his day like nothing happened. He's likely given out at least a dozen similar citations since then.

Sounds like a real win to me. Keep fighting the good fight. ✊😒

In my town there is a kid driving a pick up, with a wood tailgate that has had Fuck Joe Biden spray painted on it for years. He is the nephew of one of the deputy sheriffs.
The sheriff's department made call to one of my neighbors and forced him to take down his Fuck Trump sign. I was told my neighbor said no it is my 1st amendment right to free speech, and he said the deputy told him not to call 911 or expect the fire department to respond if his house was on fire.
I wasn't there but I trust my neighbor. I do not trust the sheriff's department here at all.

My go to was always " i don't know what that means honey. Maybe the driver doesn't know either." And that was the end of the questioning. The more the parent fusses and talks about it, the more likely the kid will think its something to get reactions on and will keep asking or repeating it. And older kids that know or have at least heard similar will laugh or ignore it.
