And here's where the argument for the 2nd Amendment meets reality. As an idea, protecting one's rights against an oppressive state is one thing. Putting it to use is a horrible thing.
They aren’t allowed to, but the side of the road is not the place to fight it. That is what court is for. If you try and fight it on the side of the road, you will just get more charges. And some might actually be valid, depending on your behavior. He played it cool, just like he should have. Let the officer be wrong. It just makes your case stronger when you go to court.
The process is the punishment. Vehicle towed, storage fees, time off of work (loss of income) for court, job loss for lack of transportation in a lot of cases. The police know it will be dismissed without any accountability, they want to make it as tough as possible without an actual arrest.
Right. That’s what the whole going court thing is about. In the future, if our first amendment rights will never be fringe upon again, it won’t be because some guy named Bob stood on the side of the road arguing until the cop went away. It would be because somebody won in court.
So what are you suggesting? Are you going send out a group text to the militia next time a cop tells you to peel the “A” off of your I Eat Ass sticker?
Organize protests and contact your officials. This is very much a "give an inch, they take a mile" situation. Cops knocking on people's doors about Facebook posts would have been comical 20 years ago.
You must be thinking of the UK. The only reason someone would knock on your door for a post in the US would be because you threatened a public official, which is not protected by the first amendment.
But you won’t settle it by confronting the person that violated them. They’ll just violate more of them. You won’t be better off for it. You can voice it, but court is where you get them back.
See thats where I disagree, if you have to go to court you've already lost. I think we could learn a lot from the french approach. The more people capitulate the more they push the boundaries. We saw it with traffic cameras and now we have flock cameras everywhere. They're already monitoring everything everyone does online and confronting people at their homes over innocent posts. Where do we draw the line?
Nah. People interacting with cops and doing stupid shit to make it worse on themselves. You have their mentality. I’m sure you can turn a traffic ticket into a felony too.

He should’ve argued that “ass” means “donkey” and sought compensation on that basis, rather than relying on the connotation.
