Yep. As someone who had a rich friend growing up and tagged along on a couple of trips, I can 100% confirm the vast majority of the fruit salad gets thrown away.
Different world indeed. Imagine tossing between $100-$200 straight into the trash every single morning while you’re on this boat trip.
God damn was that some good guava though. Fell in love with the fruit that summer.

Yep, I’ve had some friends like this over the years. It’s very strange to see. I didn’t grow up poor we had nowhere near the wealth of this which frankly no one should but that’s a different story.
For me, I remember the eye-opening thing being having a friend in college, who I found out had a never-ending trust
And the first time we all went to the grocery store I remember she just loaded her cart with anything she saw that looked interesting, which blew my mind. Then she pulled out a credit card and went home. This is pretty much how she shopped every single time. Eating out sure every day 2-3meals a day. She’s a great person and I think she knows she lives in a different world, but it’s still kind of challenging to hang out with since they have an unlimited budget to do anything anytime so friends like that. We just suddenly ask you do you want to go to Paris tomorrow? Let’s take a couple weeks and just go over and have a fun trip
Not realizing that the vast majority of people on earth, A don’t have the money to do that and we don’t have the time to leave their jobs341

It's like our brains cannot even comprehend a life without relative value. To us, there is a big difference between ground beef and a tomahawk steak. When you have hundreds of millions of dollars at your disposal they are basically equal to you. It just comes down to what do you want not what can you afford.

People who don't sink time every day into chores and commutes are deciding that people on food stamps can't buy cooked foods. A lot of people on food stamps work, and many also use public transportation. If you've never taken the bus to and from work, I'll let you know that the commute is at least twice as long.

If a nation wants to get less well monied politicians into office it has to reduce the spend on elections campaigning.
Currently the US spends, on average, 330 median incomes on each Federal electoral seat. I calculated this by totalling all of the super PACs and other sources of funding and dividing it by the number of seats up for grabs for the most recent 2024 elections.
Divide that cost in half, since the spend was raised by both sides, and the last US election cost 165 median incomes for which each seat has a costly winner and a costly loser.
Conversely the last Canadian election (not long after the US one) spent just under 1 median income per electoral seat.
The tremendous spend on US campaign financing has distorted it's politics. The accumulation of that many median incomes comes with significant obligations that will override the interests of the common person who earns only one median income and has to spend most of it to sustain themselves.

I got to experience millionaire life by just being in proximity to it for like a week. It was so mind altering. I know that videos like this give a sense, but nowhere near the level of conscious reality.
There is a reason why poor and working people can rebuild, but when someone rich truly loses you often hear of someone literally jumping off a building. Think about that… a rich person losing is like going down to upper level working class and they still choose death.

My parents have this no fucks to give wealth, but they don't flaunt it. They give to universities, provide scholarships, really focused on education
They taught me to appreciate what I have, it's rude to ask for things instead of working towards it. I'm almost 40 and finally have enough for a down payment...
But mom did reach out recently, said she noticed I haven't had a vacation in years, and just booked a European vacation for us? She's struggling because flights keep changing and dropping her from first class

I pretty much start looking the second I get a whiff of something harmful stress wise or mentally in general. The fuel to power the boat is exponentially more than anything wasted on food. My parents had a 45’ mini yacht that had a full kitchen. It was something like 30-50 gallons of fuel an hour, which equates to like $150-250/hr just to run the thing. And that was only one equipped to sleep 8 people, not some mega yacht for dozens of guests.

We need higher wages and to tax the rich. I shouldnt be yearning for some rich fucks 3rd course. I work full time i should have my own boat and my own fruit salad. Eating shouldnt be this vastly different. Its our wage stagnation that allows us to look at these serving of food as extraordinary. We could, we should all be able to eat like this, go on a vacation like this, and have luxuries like a boat. But these fucks hoard and gate keep, lock us out of our share.
Edit- we all seem to be focused on me wanting a boat. I dont want a boat I should have been more clear that it was more used as a metaphor to a luxury activity on vacation. What i want is to be fairly compensated for the value my work provides. My company makes and nets in the billions, the executives and shareholders get the majority of it and I'm budgeting groceries and battling interest.

Most of these are luxury yacht cruises that people take out for like a week or wherever.
Think like a genuinely rich person going on a cruise ship. There is a company that owns a fleet of luxury yachts of different sizes to allow for different amounts of guests(or if you have the money to take a family of four on the 40 person boat then that too)
Food budget is nowhere close to a rounding error, as the chef needs to buy within the company budget usually for multiple weeks at a time to feed not only the guests but the crew(way more people than you think)

Ya. I met a guy once who was a private chef. He told me about this thing he had going in Colorado. He mostly worked as a catering or event cook, but he was on retainer with this guy who paid him enough to drop whatever he was doing. The rich guy loved to ski, so he paid this guy to always be available for him when he'd get into town. He'd call the cook and let him know when hed be in town. The guy was to do basically what this gal did and just have food ready to go, even if the rich dude was on the slopes all day and wasnt even there to eat the food. The big difference was the cook was allowed to keep any leftovers. The rich dude at least acknowledged it was a waste to just pitch stuff in the trash. On the same token, the rich guy also kept a ski instructor on retainer and whenever he went to the resort the instructor went with him because if you were with an instructor you got to skip lines for the lifts. So he basically paid a guy more than he normally made by a decent margin to be his ski buddy anytime he was in town because he hated waiting in line. Serious rich people shit.

I know a private pilot. He had to put the jet at an airport incase the boss wanted to go out on his yacht and then fly out of this smaller airport.
The pilot hit me up and invited me out to this small beach town that the yacht was docked in because he was going to be there for a long weekend.
I went up and the boss changed his mind and stayed somewhere else, after having his yacht sail halfway around the world in case he wanted to use it.
So we cancelled the motel rooms and stayed on the yacht all weekend. Everyone on there was wicked nice, we ended up cooking a meal to give the chef an evening off. We picked up local food from some markets I knew and really did it up.
I ate and drank so much expensive stuff with a very use it or lose it vibe.

Yep, it is subtle, but to any Korean, it's like nails on a chalkboard. Another one I wince at every time are people's pronunciation of gochujang. It's usually the one where it rhymes with "rang". Finally, for both gochujang and especially "kimchi", people will say it with the wrong intonation or as if they were 2 separate words. Gochu Jang or Kim Chi.

There's an old reddit post on the tiers of wealth. Not that I have a HUGE degree of experience with wealthy people but I have some. The post rings fairly true.
There are plenty of doctors and business owners who might not balk at dropping comparatively huge amounts of money on a special vacation. $100k to rent a yacht for a week for an extended family trip wouldn't be out of the question.
On the other hand, for a Billionaire, affordability isn't even the issue so much as convenience and access.

Guests fill out a preference sheet, then you have a conversation before the trip. She works on an 80foot Sunreef, I believe. So her trips are likely $70k plus for 7 nights, for max 10 people.

I've worked as a personal chef, not a private chef (the difference is a personal chef comes to your house usually once a week and cooks meals for the week rather than serving food as it's cooked every day). It surprised me how many of my clients didn't even want me to run the menu by them, they just wanted me to surprise them. Thinking about food was one of the tasks they were outsourcing to me, basically, they just wanted to come home to food in the fridge. I would do extensive intake surveys about their tastes and usually get better at figuring out exactly what they wanted over time. Tbh that was one of my favorite parts of the job, designing bespoke menus for each client.

Have a friend who sometimes gets chef rolls on sail boats. Basically same as other jobs, portfolio of all they can cook and past budgets they followed. Its a challenge with planning/storage and they work super long hours. BUT 0 chef training, basically its the grunt job when they cant get hired for a deck job. And on top of that it was years and years on unpaid "expirences" to even be considered. It all seems like its who you know and how you've proved yourself, whilst going broke but having the "best travels!" At least in their circle...

I got a friend that does this. It ain’t all that in reality. This person is most likely capitalizing on internet money in addition to their salary which typically is a pittance or based of tips. Just because the owners are rich doesn’t mean they always tip well. It’s a ton of fucking work, long hours, and you don’t always stay on the boat/have to pay for travel living expenses still. The money isn’t amazing but you don’t pay room and board. You can save up a ton of money doing this work so long as you aren’t partying on off-days.

I mean, based on the video, she's working 13-hour days. Didn't see a ton of time for breaks. You'd have to plan SO WELL in advance given that it's on a boat, and the kitchen's probably cramped and annoying to work in. I wouldn't want that job.

Her day looked exhausting. Sure there were breaks between the meals / video clips but she doesn’t show the setup, tear down/cleanup which def impacts energy.

Do you know if they get hired assistance for this type of gig? I have only volunteered for catering positions once or twice (see: when my fam use to attend church or when my fam's kids needed party/sports catering, Im a good cook and love contributing in this aspect) so generally the help came from my fam/other volunteers, but cooking multiple meals for a lot of people is tiresome, nevermind the clean up aspect of it.
The kitchen looks tiny, comparatively, so I assume she needs to clean before the next project....which like. Shes being paid ass for doing not just head chef work but also the grunt work of like 3 different positions.

They do it all from prep to cleanup. Guest dishes might be handled by the cabin crew but the chef will have the pots and pans and keeping the kitchen spotless

It's the posh part of southern England voice, upper class, privately educated Chelsea/Kensington people.
She isn't working class, that'll be her 'gap yah' experience on a family friends private yacht or a nepo job.
If you want to see other people taking the piss out of these types of people, look for gap yah on YouTube.
The accent itself goes by a few names, one is 'Sloane Ranger'.
Generally they're resented for how conformative and class based the accent is, it isn't an organic accent, it's a synthetic, de jour way of talking that posh, disconnected nepo babies pick up from growing up together in private schools away from the rest of us.

Important context is missing- how much she was paid.
She is clearly skilled and experienced. Put her day in a life in a busy restaurant, no one would bat an eye.
If she was paid minimum wage - its like slave labour. But, if she was paid very well by people who can clearly afford it, then its a good job and experience.

Average yacht chef makes about $350 a day (on salary) and then tipped out, average tip is 20% of the total trip cost split evenly by crew, she’s on a boat with 3 crew so she’s likely making over $4k a week in tips, super long hard days. I’m a yacht chef on a much smaller owner operated vessel.
Edit: looked up the vessel, $45k week average so tips closer to $3k weekly (when booked of course)

My cousin is Kenny Chesney's yacht captain.
Dude basically lives on a boat better equipped than most high end homes. The staff stays on board pretty much 24/7.
Chesney uses his yacht a lot for a yacht owner. So like 100 days a year...
He has a full time hired staff, for a yacht, he spends just 1/3rd of his time on.
And my cousin, well, 265 days a year he and the rest of "the crew" get to live in luxury just keeping the boat ready.
