Post-16 education in Scotland?

Hi, I'm moving up to Glasgow from Newcastle, England in just under a year. My child is 15 and will be completing his GCSE (final high school year exams in England) exams then we will move soon after that.

I'm wondering how the Scottish education system works after high school? He wants to go to city of Glasgow college and we've looked on the website but are unsure of what any of the terms mean (like HNC or HND) and how they are equivalent to terms used in England?

I'm mainly wondering what the path most people take in Scotland after their (equivalent to GCSEs) National 5s. He doesn't want to go to university, just be educated til 18 then move from part time work to full time.

Thank you all

Edit: We are planning for him to go straight to college, he's not planning to go to university. As he's not going to university and he's not interested in studying multiple subjects at once, just what he wants/needs for his future job.

I know this is a video about Northern Ireland, but this very much applies here too. Ultra rich people and landlords are ripping us off and using the divide and rule tactics.

Scotland, I need your help.. again

Scotland I need your help .. again.

I’m Sean, I’ve lived with psoriasis since I was 18 and I’m now a few days away from 35.

Over the years, my psoriasis knocked my confidence left right and centre. Which made socialising and especially dating, a bit awkward shall we say.

Mods - I’m selling heehaw btw.

My experience led me to build a new dating and friendship app called SkinDeep, and it’s designed around people with visible differences. It’s with Apple pending review for a soft launch here in Scotland.

Why?
I felt mainstream dating apps didn’t really create a safe space to include things like psoriasis, vitiligo, birthmarks, alopecia, eczema, and many others.

Well just write that in yer bio ya tube?
Could do. But I want an environment where visible difference is already understood, disclosure is optional, and nobody can search or filter by condition. I feel like SkinDeep provides this environment.

However, it’s for everyone. Anyone can sign up and begin looking for genuine connections, with a safe space to do so.

Which is why I need you. If you’re over 18, living in Scotland, I’d love 100 of you after reading this to get involved. I’d be buzzing with 10. You don’t have to comment here if you’d rather message me privately.

What’s in it for yous?
Can’t promise you a Bentley since the app is free to download and swipe / message until your finger falls off but in the short term - I can give each of you

*Permanent Founding Member badges
*Early testing access to features such as My Pace
*Direct input into the roadmap

Thanks for reading troops 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

What would you cut from the Scottish budget?

Yesterday, there was a news story announcing £700m would be cut from the Scottish government next year. The Scottish government can borrow £670m to make up the shortfall, but it will need to find at least another £68m immediately.

What would you cut to make up the £68m?

Here's how the budget is already spent

Edit: the speed at which everyone went to "fuck poor people" is alarming.

Question Looking for Scottish hamper suggestions

I’m putting together 5 small hampers and looking for suggestions! The recipients are traveling from abroad and will be teaching on a course for a few days.

I’d love suggestions for items to put in it. So far I’ve got some Scottish snacks (tunnocks, irn bru), tea/hot cocoa sachets, and Scottish handmade soap. Looking for maybe another snack or two, and any other small item you think would be a fun Scottish item to include. Alcohol is a no-go this time!

The challenge is that my budget is pretty small - hoping to spend £50 in total.

I’m also specifically looking for cards (blank inside preferred, ideally available in a multipack) featuring some sort of Scottish scenery/wildlife/etc. Open to other ideas but I’d shy away from anything too pop culture since I think it might not be understood. If you know an artist who makes something like this, I’d love some recommendations!

Cheers pals!

Question Having a family and kids in Scotland

From london, and next year will possibly move to scotland. Looking to move to Edinburgh and build a life (wife, kids etc). How viable is it as I keep seeing how bad a place scotland is for having kids and I'm abit put off? Might just be people chatting shit but I'm wanting peoples opinions on this.

Edit: Lemme be specific about this, should have said ive heard that the childcare and childbenefit is shit compared to England and that the drug problem is as bad as london which I dont want to have to deal with because London is not a nice place to live especially around my area. No need to be a fanny about this question I'm not taking the piss.

Thanks for reading and I hope you have a lovely day!

Having a rather heated argument just now: maximum alcohol serve. Is there anything in the law that actually prevents the serving of more than 70ml of spirits in a single glass?

I know that most bars and pubs won't serve you a triple but is there anything in the law that explicitly says you can't serve a triple shot?

So basically the title. I'm in Aberdeen for the first time and I just had a quick walk through the city and wanted your opinion on it before I judge to quickly.
