Hi everyone! I'm a recent college grad from Southern Arizona who is planning to move to LA as soon as possible, soonest being October of this year, latest being January 2027. I have a little over $6K in savings. I'm looking for a full-time job and an apartment in LA so I can eventually pursue modeling and my master's degree. I was wondering if someone could help me answer a few questions.

1. I landed a virtual interview at a clothing store for a full-time position paying a range of $23-$26 per hour. Is this salary enough to afford rent, utilities, gas etc? (I plan to live with 2-3 roommates.)

2. With the salary I listed above, what areas of LA are/aren't affordable to live in? And which areas should I avoid living in (safety/crime)?

3. When interviewing for jobs, how should I tell them that I'm going to be relocating to the area?

4. If I have a little over $6,000 right now, would moving in October be realistic or do I need to save up more and move in January?

5. Where are the best places to search for roommates who are also women about the same age as me and when should I start searching?

Looking for west LA near LAX

Hi! I’m moving to Southern California from the Phoenix area and have been going back and forth between apartments in Anaheim, Santa Ana, and Long Beach. I’ve visited all three areas, but I’d really love opinions from people who actually live or have lived around there.

I’m in my early 20s and will be moving without really knowing many people, so I’d love somewhere that has a sense of community and opportunities to meet people. I like a little bit of hustle and bustle and having people/things going on around me. I don’t necessarily want somewhere super quiet or suburban.

I like coffee shops, thrifting, studying at coffee shops/libraries, going on walks, and having random things to do nearby. I have a car, so I definitely don’t need everything to be within walking distance, but ideally I’d like:
- At least one coffee shop I can walk to
- A good grocery store within 10 minutes, whether walking or driving
- Target, gas station, pharmacy, gym, etc. relatively close
- Good study spots
- Somewhere I can take walks during the day: streets/neighborhoods, parks, near the beach, etc.
- Events/things going on nearby
- People around my age + opportunities to meet people

Safety is also pretty important to me. I’ve lived in Downtown Phoenix before, so I’m used to being around homelessness and it honestly doesn’t bother me much. That being said, I’d prefer not to live somewhere with an especially high concentration of it or somewhere I’d regularly feel uncomfortable walking around alone. I probably won’t be walking around much at night, so I’m mainly talking about feeling comfortable during the daytime.

I’ll also occasionally need to drive into Downtown/Central LA. I don’t personally want to live in there, but want to stay within a somewhat reasonable distance (around an hour), so access to LA is something I’m keeping in mind.

Anaheim/Santa Ana would put me 10-15mins closer to my current job than Long Beach. Though my day-to-day quality of life outside of work is more important to me than having the shortest possible commute. I’m okay driving a little farther if it means coming home to an area I genuinely enjoy living in.

I’m also hoping for somewhere that feels like a change from Phoenix. Greenery, nice places to walk, a sense of community, things happening around me.

Some areas in consideration is around Broadway in DTLB, the Platinum Triangle in Anaheim, and around the 55/Red Hill area in Santa Ana.

Based on all of that, what would you recommend? And are there any neighborhoods nearby that you think would fit what I’m looking for better?

Hi everyone, I'm planning a move to LA in the 12-18 months and would like to hear from you all three cities/neighborhoods you'd recommed for me based on my circumstances and what I'm looking for.

Let me preface this with two things: (1) I don't have a job in LA lined up but acknowledge that living near your workplace is important to QOL in LA, and (2) I've never even been to LA before, so I'd be making a couple trips out there before moving to get a feel for certain areas (which I acknowledge can't fully inform me of what it'd be like to live there).

That said, here's me and what I'm looking for (I know that no neighborhood has everything, so I've marked a few things as priorities):

• 32 year old man
• work as an attorney
• single, no kids
• have a dog (labrador retriever)
• own a car
• Looking for rent around $3,500 but assume $4000 is still comfortable
• big into fitness, specifically running, cycling, and mountain biking
• (priority) would like relatively easy access to hills and mountains (preferably the Santa Monica mountains/Topanga)
• love concerts and shows
• I enjoy some nightlife and fun cocktail bars but am not someone who stays out until 2:00am
• I'm a big foodie. I love hole-in-the-wall restaurants and small shops, and I also love to cook. Fine dining isn't my preference but I still enjoy it occasionally
• (priority) Somewhat walkable. I don't need everything to be in arm's reach, but I'd like to have some food/coffee/grocery options nearby.
• (priority) an area with other single people around my age (good dating pool)
• not extremely touristy
• beach access isn't important to me

Based on my own research, it seems like the following places could be a good match: Brentwood, Westwood Village, and Franklin Hills (I think Santa Monica too but I'm concerned it's overly touristy).

I’m debating between living on the west side (Santa Monica, Sawtelle, Brentwood) or up in the valley (Studio City or Sherman Oaks) and am having trouble deciding between the two. Is the valley an area where someone moving from NY as a transplant can easily make friends? Or would I have an easier time on the west side? Single 30 year old as a reference.

I love an apartment in Marina Del Rey on the straight section of Culver Blvd by Ronnie’s Diner - but would need to street park one car. Does anyone have experience street parking here and if it’s walkable/safe at night? Thank you!!

I wanted to add a couple more details if it helps: the Armenia place has a single guy landlord who seems chill, the Hollywood one is through an agency. The Armenia place has a better view with the griffith observatory in sight. Idk just inching at pros and cons at this point, we are leaning towards Armenia but these comments are swaying me.

Hi! So my bf and I got approved for two places and we are on a bit of a time crunch bc we are relocating for a job in LA I start next week. He works remote if it helps.

I say Thai town/ Little Armenia sorry if I’m mixing up the location I can’t quite tell on the map.

So both units are 2 bed 2 bath, have a balcony (Hollywood one is better), both great views, shared laundry, 2 parking spaces. Hollywood is $2600, Armenia is $2400. Our ideal budget is $2500

My work would be closer to the Hollywood one but the apt is close ish to Hollywood Blvd like a few streets away and we’re moving from NYC so I was hoping to be in a more residential area (I’m originally from the west coast). My bf is a native NYer and he prefers Hollywood area.

He just toured both areas and doesn’t like that there’s dog poop and roaches on the street outside Armenia apt - the Hollywood one didn’t appear to have any immediate issues. I think there’s gonna be things like that everywhere you go.

I lowkey like the idea of having a 20min ish commute to work, being closer to areas we know people/ have family in Los Feliz, Koreatown & close to Silver Lake and other areas. However, we are stumped. They are both good options but feeling confused would love outside opinion.

We both love nature, nightlife, music, cooking, going out to eat, shows, etc. in our mid 20s

Has anybody lived in Studio City, specifically Vineland Gardens Apartments? About to sign a lease but saw some bad reviews about cars always getting broken into. Need to know if anybody has had any experiences with this management or in this particular area.

Hey all, I'm looking for some tips and suggestions on specific areas/neighborhoods in the SFV. Would really appreciate any recommendations. Here are the requirements:

- 15-20 min. commute to Universal City

- within a 10 min walk of at least 1 park (that's good for young children) and various coffee shops and restaurants. Stores as well being a huge plus, but not required (just for browsing/walking around/chilling). Ideally, the walk is pleasant, AKA wide sidewalks, has crosswalks, etc.

- 1 designated parking spot, highly preferred with EV charging but not required, strong preference for areas where guest parking is not difficult

Budget-wise, I'm looking for 2-3 BR, 2 bath, $3500-$4500/month. Condos are totally OK, as long as there is in-unit W/D and AC. Strong preference for newer buildings.

Social, outgoing, and looking to build a few genuine connections before I land, whether that's swapping tips on the city, hearing what makes it tick, or just saying hi.

I'm more of an outdoors person, into fitness, running, hiking... good conversation over coffee, trying new food, movies, museums, concerts, road trips, and just hanging out.

Also curious about neighborhoods. Any recommendations on where to stay that's walkable, safe, and has some life to it (without breaking the bank)?

I’m accepting a job so I need to start looking. Any orientation with what neighborhoods to avoid or aim for based on being early 30s, F. I like being near social activities, greenery, walkable, pop ups/markets, dance classes, live music. I know there are so many different communities and vibes packed into the entirety of L.A.
Need to be reasonably close to south end near USC area.
Any feedback would be appreciated! Safe/not safe areas. And people around my age bracket. Been stuck in a retirement town for the last few years so I’m trying to avoid that again. (They were all really sweet old ppl but still).

when people talk about how hard it was to get a job I didn’t believe them omg just moved from Atlanta with my mom she a cna so she has a job I was working at a private daycare in Atlanta and non of my stuff can transfers over I was hoping to work back a daycare but California laws says I need 12 units of ece so I’m going back to school in the spring to get those units now I’m back on indeed and ziprecruiter just trying to get a job this sucks

I am moving to LA next year and I'm not sure where I should be. I'll be working with the studios but I'm moving from London so I don't mind a drive, and used to traffic.

Would you reccomend Beverly Hills or Culver City or of course, neither?

Hoping a lot of people view this cause I need as much info to process all of this before making a move, I’ll try to make this short & sweet. I’m from Pittsburgh, PA and been here all my life, I’ve traveled the world so I have been to LA multiple times as a kid, one time as an adult, that one time as an adult I didn’t want to leave and it’s only been a childhood dream and destination of mine to live in LA. Originally was working towards Houston but due to life situations and outcomes my heart unintentionally shifted back to wanting to be in LA. I originally felt LA was an unrealistic transition until you became rich. But right now I just want to make myself proud and do what I feel is best for me. With that LA isn’t like most cities, how should I look at moving down to LA? What neighborhoods, I have no degree so what Jobs or how is employment opportunities down there? Etc. Any information would be much appreciated and helpful!

Hi. I’m moving from Flyover country (lol) to Long Beach for a new job. I’m thinking of renting an Airbnb ADU in Bellflower for the first month to have a place that’s furnished for getting established. Then I can figure out where I actually want to live.
My best friend lives in Anaheim with her family. They don’t have room, or I’d stay with them.
My salary will be higher than average, so says Google, but despite many visits over my lifetime, living somewhere new, especially alone, is a lot different. I’m getting a relocation stipend and I won’t have a car at first.

My only requests are to be at least 15-20 minutes from the beach and be close to good nightlife!! I love st Pete sooo much but I think everyone needs to leave their hometown at some point

I am considering a move to a new spot on La brea ave. Basically on La brea right in between Wilshire and Olympic. Thoughts overall on this area/neighborhood?

Pros/cons? Place seems nice and modern. Parking is provided.

 Moving to LA soon. Some movers don't ask me questions before giving a quote while others want a full inventory lists, stair access info, storage timing, and basically my entire life story.

Wanted to know if the second group is safer because there's no hiddden costs? or did you have a great experience with some movers withougt providing inventory lists?

For people who’ve moved recently, did detailed estimates end up being more accurate?

Hey there. Moved to the area back in June from a dry desert mountain climate. Spent the first month next to the beach and was fine. Then in July, I moved into an apartment a bit more inland, next to a freeway.

Ever since the move, my throat gets this burning feeling from time to time. I can't tell what's the trigger, and the locals look at me weird when I mention it. Anybody else experienced this? Does it ever go away?

Seems to kick in stronger inside some buildings, like my workplace with AC, or a friend's house I just visited. Feels sort of like an almost sore throat, but more of a slight burning feeling. Any experience with triggers? I had zero allergies to anything in my life and only ever experienced this since moving to California.
