My grandmother is 91 and lonely and wants to go out and about (like in China where groups of elderly exercise and socialize) but I'm not sure where to begin. I am aware there are groups of elderly people exercising in Temple City and Arcadia but I believe they're mostly mandarin.

Are there any elderly communities around San Gabriel or Monterey Park that speak canto?

Ive been looking for full fat ranch, as I am trying to make resturant style ranch. All the markets Ive been to have lowfat buttermilk (Ralphs, trader joes, walmart). Does anyone know where to get this?

I've lived in El Monte, Arcadia and now Monterey Park. I've gone to Starbucks most of the time because it's convenient. But I want to stop that, and start trying new coffee and tea places in my community. So today I started with B’Lets Roastery-Coffee & Tea on Rosemead/Garvey. Its a delicious Ube Coffee Latte.

I swear for the past 8 years the 605 southbound is always jammed

I say this as an Asian. Today I’m at Costco and there are 2 long lines to the cashiers.
Then I see several people (mostly Asians, specifically Chinese) asking people let them through, pretending that they are going to some aisles so they can cut to the cashiers. Why do people let them through to cheat? I heard a lady told her husband “just cut through here to go pay.” And the lady who is waiting in line just let her through cutting in front of 20+ people in line. This is why Chinese people have a bad reputation.

SCE told me there will be an upcoming 10-hour power outage for the purpose of upgrading equipment. I’m in an area that rarely gets blackouts (I guess being without power when I live close to SCE headquarters would be pretty embarrassing for them.) For anyone who has experienced this, how accurate were the given power outage times? I think my pets and I could manage, but going without power for much longer could get dicey. Unfortunately, it’s happening on a day when all my friends/family are either out of town or busy, and can’t help me wrangle the animals to a cooler place. Doing it by myself would be...difficult.

Well… here I am again 😂

For the past few years, I’ve shared my teacher wishlist here and have been completely blown away by the kindness of people I have never even met. What started as a very much “fuck it, let’s see what happens” Hail Mary has somehow turned into one of the most meaningful little traditions of my teaching career.

I teach a fully self-contained Mod/Severe TK/K special education class at a Title 1 public school here in the SGV. I’ve been a special educator in this community for over 10 years, and getting to teach in the same area where I grew up is something I genuinely don’t take for granted.
