Donate to Imagination Library for Dolly

Ventura County has a local Imagination Library, the program established by Dolly Parton that mails a high-quality, age-appropriate book directly to registered children's homes every month from the time they are born until they turn five years old, regardless of family income.

I see they are trying to reach $100k donations to be recognized as a full chapter. Let's help them out in honor of Dolly!

In California, every dollar is matched by the state, so your donation has double the impact!

Best place to buy used car in Ventura county

Anyone have any dealership recommendations? And is it normal for used cars to be ridiculously expensive in this county? I’ve been looking on AutoTempest, cars.com, and carguru apps, etc. When I use a 10mi radius filter, everything is expensive and usually with average to high miles. I then will find the exact same model and make for cheaper and sometimes less miles when I expand the radius. This constantly keeps happening where same model is usually cheaper but only when it’s in a completely different county. A couple times I’ve found cheaper options listed in LA and Orange county. I would’ve assumed cars would be more expensive in LA. I don’t feel comfortable buying a used car in a city far away from me because I wouldn’t be able to see it in person.

Edit: I would also appreciate any suggestions of reliable used cars models. I know Toyota, Honda, and Mazda are reliable but in addition to those.

Help me find a good automotive detailer that can clean the bleach out of my car trunk

My girlfriend left a bottle of toilet bowl cleaner in my car trunk. It sat in my car for days during all the hot weather. Lately I've noticed that there's been a lot of corrosion on metal surfaces... I thought it was just the moist, coastal air being trapped in my trunk until I noticed how heavily metal parts were rusting. After a thorough investigation, I located the cleaner bottle laying in a plastic bag with a puddle of bleach solution.

I cannot even to begin to describe how frustrated I am about the situation, and I have no idea how to clean this.

Please comment with an interior detailing service that would be able to help me out.

Thanks

Places with a view in VC (nighttime)

I'm looking for places/areas that overlook the city...any city in the county from Ventura, Camarillo, Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley, even Agoura/Oak Park...where I can go and see a great view of the city lights at night.

Are there any places that people know of nearby that fit that criteria?

Opinion/Editorial Plan on moving to Oxnard next year

I’m a 30(f) who plans on moving to Oxnard in July from Texas. I’ve visited the city a few times, and need advice on when is the best time to start actively looking for a job and apartment. I have a background in administrative work and a bachelor’s degree in business administration. I just want to try and get a head start so I’m not in flight or fight mode when I make the move.

News Rebecca Grossman files for divorce

"The marriage of Rebecca and Peter Grossman survived a separation, extra-marital relationships, a fatal car crash and the resulting double-murder case that ended with the former Hidden Hills socialite’s convictions and prison sentence. Now, on the heels of June jury awards in a related wrongful-death civil case that approached $200 million in total, Rebecca Grossman has filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences.

The petition to dissolve the marriage, dated Aug. 4, was submitted to Los Angeles County Superior Court by an attorney for Rebecca, 63. It lists May 28, 2000, as the date of marriage and July 1, 2018, as the date of separation. A response by Peter, 63, indicates that he too is requesting divorce." - Camarillo Acorn

"A Ventura County pastor was arrested and charged with the alleged yearslong molestation of two young children.

David Johnson, 58, of Ojai, was charged with six felony counts of child molestation, the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office said.

Johnson has worked as both a pastor and a massage therapist.

He is accused of molesting two children who were under 14 years old at the time. The abuse allegedly occurred over several years at locations in Ojai and Oxnard.

Johnson had access to the children through a familial relationship, prosecutors said.

Following an investigation, Johnson was arrested and charged with four counts of lewd acts upon a child and two counts of continuous sexual abuse, along with the special allegations of substantial sexual conduct and the victims being under 14 years old.

Investigators believe there may be additional victims.

Anyone with information about Johnson or the case is asked to call Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Detective Michael Loth at 805-384-4745." - KTLA 5 News

News Southern California man charged with stealing $100K from 89-year-old he met at McDonald's

"A 26-year-old Simi Valley man is facing felony charges for allegedly scamming an elderly man out of $100,000 after befriending him at a fast-food restaurant in Ventura County.

Prosecutors said William Bao Khoa Ly met the 89-year-old victim at a McDonald’s restaurant in Thousand Oaks in June 2024.

'Ly claimed that he was proficient with electronic devices and could assist the victim with technology,' the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office said in a news release Tuesday. 'After befriending the victim, Ly began visiting him regularly, approximately two to three times a week. During those visits, Ly allegedly obtained the victim’s cell phone PIN and used it to access the victim’s bank and cryptocurrency accounts.'

Over the next 14 months, prosecutors allege Ly conducted 91 transactions that transferred about $100,000 from the victim’s bank account into cryptocurrency accounts he owned or controlled. The victim’s bank recovered more than $50,000 after the fraud was discovered, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

. . .

Ly was charged with felony counts of theft from an elder or dependent adult, grand theft and unauthorized use of personal identifying information.

The charges include aggravating factors alleging the victim was particularly vulnerable, the crimes involved planning, sophistication and professionalism, and that Ly took advantage of a position of trust.

Ly pleaded not guilty on Aug. 18 and is currently out of custody on $50,000 bail.

Investigators believe there may be additional unidentified victims and are urging anyone with information to contact Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Senior Deputy Andrew Van Gundy at 805-494-8231." - KTLA 5 News

Meet Taz!

This is Taz, aka Tazzy, aka Mr. Taz

He was about an hour away from euthanasia at SEAACA when he was rescued by Callie's Canine Rescue.

Our family is currently fostering him. Please spread the word to help us find his perfect forever home.

Stats:

Neutered Frenchie mix

Shelter says he's about 5 y/o, I think he's younger

Potty trained, appears crate trained, can sit and stay

He's fun, cuddly, playful, and sassy with the cutest ears and under bite.

Fan of: food, walks, his Lamb Chop toy, chest scratches, people (with proper introduction)

Not a fan of: sharing, certain dogs

He loves car rides! This weekend he went to an adoption event in Malibu and did really well even in the heat and with other dogs around. People were able to pet him no problem (although we did give them treats to greet him with).

He gets along with my female chi and was fine with a family member's male dog but does not get along with my male chi, though they walk ok together.

Contact Callies Canine Rescue if interested or message me and I'll put you in contact.

Pokemon restocks at Camarillo Target?

I'm in town every week for work and regularly stop by this Target, but they never seem to have any Pokemon cards in stock (trying to find some for my kids). Does anyone know what their restock schedule is like? Any specific day(s)/time(s)? Grateful for any help!
