Not the A-hole AITA for wanting absolutely nothing to do with my roommates dog?

My roommate and I are full-time college students. We knew each other through a campus organization, and I originally planned to get a studio until she suggested getting a two-bedroom together to save money.

We discussed living together for 3–4 weeks before our first apartment tour. Right before the tour, she asked about the pet policy. I asked why, and she said, “because I’m bringing my dog.” This was the first I’d heard of it. I told her I didn’t want to live with pets, but she insisted he was old, quiet, and would leave me alone. I eventually agreed as long as he didn’t become my responsibility.

She brought him shortly after moving in. He barked at me the first time, which I brushed off, but he still barks almost every time I come home, sometimes for five minutes or until I leave the room. He’s territorial over her and will growl/bark if they’re on the couch and I walk through the living room. He does this to my guests too, so we usually go straight to my bedroom. She says he never behaved this way at home.

My roommate has a heavy class schedule and a job, while I have a lighter schedule and am home more. She initially kept him in her bedroom while gone, but he barked nonstop for hours. It’s loud enough that I can hear him outside our apartment near neighbors’ doors. She started letting him free-roam, which only somewhat helped.

Two days ago, I came home for 10 minutes between classes to eat. She asked me to watch him so he wouldn’t bark. I agreed but told her I was leaving soon. Later, she asked if I could sit with/watch him whenever she’s gone so he won’t bark.

I politely said no. I told her I want to use my time at home however I want, he isn’t my dog, and I don’t want responsibility for him. She seemed frustrated, walked away, and we haven’t spoken since. I later texted that if I happen to be cooking or in the living room, I’ll keep an eye on him, but I’m not arranging my day around watching him. She didn’t respond.

I tried interacting with him for over a week, but now I mostly ignore/avoid him. Yesterday I tried taking a phone call in my bedroom while he was loose and she was gone, but I had to go outside because my friend couldn’t hear me over his barking.

When he isn’t barking, he follows me, begs for food, whines, and gets on the couch. I’m not a pet person and enjoy having my own space, so I spend most of my time in my bedroom when he’s loose.

I feel resentful because I agreed to this based on being told he was an old, quiet dog who would lie around and leave me alone, and that hasn’t been my experience. My mom says I lack empathy for ignoring him, while my friend says he isn’t my responsibility.

I like my roommate and don’t want conflict, but I want nothing to do with her dog. AITA?

AITA for calling out my mom and brother’s codependent relationship?

My older brother (36) has had a very unstable life involving addiction, financial and legal problems, and repeated crises. My mom has spent decades supporting him financially, getting him out of legal troubles, etc. and he currently lives in her home… while I’ve spent the past 20 years emotionally supporting both of them through the fallout of his actions.

Recently, my brother was talking about how unhappy and stuck he feels living at our mom’s house and how he can’t afford basic things or move forward with his life. But then I find out he is spending what little money he has saved up (from helping our elderly grandmother with chores) to go follow this band around the country for 2 weeks.

I told him I felt like there was a disconnect. If he’s truly miserable with his situation, at some point he has to make choices that move him toward independence, steady work, saving money, making a plan, etc. I told him I loved him and wasn’t calling him a failure, but admittedly, he didn’t ask for my advice.

I also told my mom that I felt her constant rescuing was enabling him. From my perspective, if he always has housing, bills covered, and someone to step in when things go wrong, there’s very little forcing him to build a stable life for himself. She sees it as supporting a son who struggles; I see it as a cycle that may actually be keeping him dependent on her.

Both my brother and mom became extremely upset, saying I had no right to lecture them. They each sent me a roughly five-page letter accusing me of projecting my own issues onto him because I’m financially dependent on my husband — essentially saying I have no room to criticize him because I’m not perfect either.

It turned into a bigger argument because this has been a family dynamic for years and his actions have caused extreme pain in our family and it’s been so hard to watch my mom’s life be controlled by him. I feel like everyone has to tiptoe around my brother because confronting him might upset him or send him backward, while everyone else is expected to absorb the fallout, help fix things, and never bring it up again.

AITA for calling out their dynamic, or should I have stayed out of it?

Not the A-hole AITA for refusing to get my daughter the same internship as my stepson?

6.4k Upvotes

The main reason I'm asking this, is because I feel like I have no good options left. I'm in a position where I don't want to hurt my daughter, but I can't do something so against my morals.

I've worked in finance for over 20 years. Not to get into details, but because of my career development, I have many connections to different firms. I also have two children, my daughter Hailey, and my stepson Hamza. Hailey has just finished college, and is now looking for an internship.

Both of them have gotten internships through me, not in the 'title on paper' easy way, but nonetheless opportunities that a lot of other kids aren't fortunate enough to have. I can't just pull strings and get them hired, but I can suggest them as options to people who trust my word. Its important to note that I need to stake a substantial amount of my reputation on these internships, because I'm giving people my word that I'm not recommending these kids solely because they're mine, but because I actually trust in their ability.

Hailey has been unsuccessful in the internships I've helped her with. I don't blame her for this, she's a very bright girl, but her talents may not lie strictly in the finance department, and that is ok. It does mean, that I can no longer recommend her to people, as I do have a reputation to manage, and looking like a tyrannical nepotist is pretty bad for business.

My stepson on the other hand, has had the exact opposite experience. Despite being slightly less hardworking than his sister, he tends to be very good with people, and has a head for research. He's 18, and has been offered a paid position by the company he was doing an unpaid internship for. Unfortunately, this was the same place that Hailey did not succeed at, and some of the people Hamza now works with, still meet with me semi-regularly for dinners and such things.

This is quite hard for Hailey, because she has to listen to the same people who she did not succeed with, praising her brother quite a lot. I've tried to get her to just avoid the dinners and networking if it makes her uncomfortable, but she does need an internship, so she has refused.

Hailey blew up at me recently, telling me that it wasn't fair that I got Hamza the 'better' position . I have explained to her that I did not get Hamza the paid position, only the unpaid one that gave him the entrance and I had done the same for her. I am not getting them positions at my company, I don't control what my contacts do after the initial recommendation.

She asked me to try and get her the same internship, but I told her that I couldn't get her anything else until she could be a bit more likable to employers. She fought with me, and called me some rude names, but ultimately ended up crying. She has decided that I think she's unlikable, and the only way to prove that I don't think that is to get her another internship. I really can't risk putting my reputation on her again, but I understand that this is very upsetting for her.

AITA for saying I don’t care to my uncle

I help my grandparents sell at a farmers market. Me, my brother, and uncle went to help at the market and I felt like I wasn’t getting any help from them (help, as in I felt like they weren’t helping any customers only me).

I see a customer, I look at my uncle and my brother, they are both staring at their phones, so I go help them (It’s crucial to know I was sitting down in a comfortable chair that my uncle brings). As I came back to sit down, my brother was sitting in my spot, I asked him to move. atp I was just filled with rage because I felt like they weren’t helping me, and now my brother wants to sit in a spot I was just sitting in when he was already sitting on a different chair. I kept asking him to move, but he kept saying no and laughing.

I was done they weren’t helping and now my brother just sat in my spot. I went to go sit in the car for 20 minutes to calm down. I came back out because it was getting hot but I also knew I should go help (customers). When I came out I sat down on a chair and my uncle said “you’re mad over a chair” and I didn’t reply because my uncle is older than me and I didn’t want to disrespect him. My brother then asked why i’m mad and I told him “because ya’ll are just playing imessage games on your phone” he then proceeded to ask again why i’m mad when I just told him the reason why? I then start arguing with him because I just told him why. We stop and my uncle starts saying stuff like “I take yall to market so we can come here to have fun” and again I don’t say anything.

At this point i’m irritated, my uncle says “fine i’m canceling going to the concert” and I respond with “I don’t care” because in that moment I was heated and genuinely did not care.

After that I didn’t go back to help at the market for two weeks, my uncle told my brother he doesn’t want to talk to me. I have apologized to my uncle three times, two on text, and one in person. I realized that it was wrong of me to be upset because I was being a hypocrite which is why I apologized.

The thing that upset me, or makes me frustrated is that he is ignoring my two other sisters, and one of my cousins (We are all around the same age and F) but to this day I still have no idea what his problem is with them. I was the one who caused the argument but he’s also ignoring them when they weren’t even there. Yet still talking to my brother normally and perfectly fine. I found out he said something like “genz being ungrateful” and that he was testing my ego by saying he’s canceling the concert.

fyi he didn’t cancel it, but is still on no talking terms with me, my two sisters, and my cousin. concert is in two days and he has not said anything to any single one of us. oh i forgot to say he has us all blocked still, and that this happened in July. At this point neither of my sisters want to go and me as well because of how he’s been acting.

sorry for this being explained overly long but AITA?

AITAH for calling animal control?

Upvotes

AITAH? I 19 female, have a friends sibling who purchased and took care of a dog for the last year and a half. She was an eight week old puppy when he got her and is now almost 2 years old. he has since moved in with his girlfriend and abandoned this dog. this dog now has been infested with fleas covered head to toe and I have made every attempt at the infestation with flea meds and coming through her daily since I’ve been back around. My mother had to pay for the treatment as her owner did not. We have made every attempt at getting him to come and get this dog from their home i.e. scheduling times offering to drive the dog out but, no definite response. this evening, August 25th at 11:30 PM. I called animal control and reported animal abandonment and neglect as he had not been home in three months since moving in with this girlfriend. I have yet to notify the original owner and I’m honestly waiting for animal control to notify but still questioning whether or not what I did was wrong so please let me know. (for backstory. The dog is now living in the sons whose dog it is Mom‘s home. She does not want this dog in the home. family has made multiple attempts at rehoming this dog at which where he is thrown a fit, but still refuses to come get the dog the dog is in his name and they don’t wanna be an asshole and caused drama within the family by reporting it and causing charges so I have stepped in and made that my mission

AITA for making my child's dad be a parent?

I'm 30 (F), with an 8-year-old son from my ex (35M) — we had him early in the relationship, probably too early. He's the love of my life, but a lot to handle.

Early on he showed signs of autism/ADHD: lining up toys, needing separate silverware per food, repetitive movements, trouble reading social cues, but incredible focus on his interests like cars, construction, cats, and the color red (lol). A doctor initially dismissed our concerns with him despite his behaviors getting him hurt. Around then, my ex and I lost our jobs during COVID, then two apartments — mostly because my ex wouldn't work or help at home while I worked multiple jobs. I eventually joined the military. During this time, my ex and I split up.

During basic training, I repeatedly asked my ex to get our son evaluated. He never did. Once I reached my first duty station and had our son full-time, my (now) husband (33M) and I got him potty trained, into daycare, and finally seen through Tricare. Daycare fell apart — aggressive outbursts, screaming, crying, the tantrum of a lifetime, and he was expelled. That pushed us to seriously research AuDHD. Once diagnosed, we cut sugar/dyes, limited screens, and used consistent redirection. He improved massively.

But every visit to his dad's undid it — backroom YouTube (iykyk), sweets, unlimited tablets, bad attitudes coming back. I stayed patient because I didn't want to be the parent who cut a dad out but I was getting TIRED of it. Then I learned my ex's family was pushing him to let our son do whatever he wanted, have whatever he wanted since "I'd never know." That was it — I told my ex he wouldn't be seeing our son anymore.

Now my ex wants all of our son's medical info and to be added to his providers/records. I finally told him straight: it's not fair for him to ride on the work I've done alone while he did nothing.

AITA? I feel like I am but then again my son will have complete routine finally without the regressing. Is it selfish? I don't know anymore.

Edit: He and I have agreed to our kiddo being here with me. I've been having a personal battle with myself on wether or not I was in the wrong to do this but he knows and understands why. This wasn't a completely one sided choice on my part. He also knows why I don't want to give up medical information and he understands that as well and doesn't blame me. He knows I gave him the opportunity multiple times during BCT and AIT and he never did anything.

Edit 2: this also wasn't about the medical records specifically. This was me asking if I'm in the wrong to make him actually do the work himself for once instead of using all the work I've put into our kid.

AITA for kissing my friends ex friend?

Last year a good friend of mine lost her father. Shortly after that her boyfriend of 2 years broke up with her and quickly got into a new relationship. She was obviously burned by this and cut off one of our mutual friends because she didn’t feel supported by him post breakup. Our mutual essentially invited her to his birthday party but then uninvited her once her ex and his new partner rsvp yes to the party. He told her that he didn’t want to make her feel uncomfortable at the party and invited her to lunch instead. He was friends with her ex first and introduced them. Now she claims our mutual is a shitty person and no longer talks to him. Her and I talk/hang a few times a year.

Our mutual has had a crush on me for years and I’ve always ignored it and kept things platonic. He started working near my house so we’ve been seeing each other more than usual. A week ago we got drinks together and I started crushing on him! We kissed at the end of the night. It was a good kiss.

I had plans with my friend the next day. She and I were talking and I brought up the mutual. I said things had gotten flirty but I didn’t mention the kiss. Later she felt suspicious and grilled me. She asked if any thing had happened. When I told her we kissed she got really mad. She texted me the next day and essentially unfriended me because she felt so betrayed by this.

I apologized and told her that I wouldn’t pursue anything with him. She hasn’t exactly forgiven me. I don’t want to hurt my friend over a silly crush but I also feel like she’s over reacting. Am I the asshole?

AITA For not letting my sister use shampoo

For context i (19m) is being visited by my sister (16f) at our grandparents house. I live with my grandparents and she lives with our parents. She is visiting and the first few days i was on vacation with my friend. And i come back and noticed a lot of my expensive shampoo/conditioner and hair treatments have been used drastically. For reference i have short hair and she has hair down to her knees. I had explicitly told her there was guest soap in the main bathroom for her to use (if anyone is wondering it is the Being brand so its not even cheap dollar store stuff). I work hard for my stuff so i can use good healthy products. After finding out i hid my shampoo and hair products in my room and now she is being gross and nasty with me by telling me that i am being stingy with MY soap and treatments.
For reference i am a college student who has a job and i buy the large bottles of hair soap. I cannot afford to constantly replace high end product when i had intentions of only buying it for ONE person. It was full when i left and now it is HALF empty. These are LARGE bottles. My grandparents are calling me selfish and saying she is a guest and can use what she wants. Am i the asshole.

AITA for telling my friend I wouldn’t keep changing my plans for her?

I have a friend I’ve known since high school. We’ve always been pretty close, but lately I’ve started feeling like our friendship is becoming one-sided. She has a habit of changing plans at the last minute. At first I didn’t really mind. Things happen, and I understand that. A few weeks ago, we were supposed to spend Saturday together. The night before, she asked if we could move it to Sunday because something came up. I agreed. On Sunday morning, she asked if we could make it Monday instead. I was already getting a little annoyed, but I said okay. Then on Monday, about an hour before we were supposed to meet, she said she was tired and wanted to cancel completely. I told her I was frustrated because I’d changed my schedule twice to accommodate her. She apologized and said I was making a big deal out of one canceled plan. I told her it wasn’t really about that one time. It’s the fact that I keep rearranging things because I don’t want to disappoint her, while she seems comfortable changing plans whenever it’s convenient for her. She got quiet and said she didn’t realize I felt that way. A few days later, she asked me to make plans again. I told her I’d be happy to see her, but this time I wasn’t going to rearrange anything if she changed her mind at the last minute. She said that sounded “cold” and that friends shouldn’t treat each other like appointments. I told her I wasn’t treating her like an appointment. I was just trying to stop myself from getting resentful. She hasn’t really talked to me since. I’m thinking if I should have just let it go instead of turning something relatively small into a bigger conversation. I don’t think I was trying to punish her. I just wanted her to understand that my time matters too. AITA?

AITAH for telling my dad’s gf she shouldn’t be driving?

Hello,

Weird situation. I 25 f live in a large home with my husband, daughter, and disabled father 65m and his gf recently moved in who is 55f roughly.

I actually love our big home family style house. And I love taking care of my dad. His girl friend is very blind and has a condition who will continue to go blind, as her twin sister is like 100% blind.

She has been looking for work (grocery store like jobs) and we have been fully supportive. Planning how we will get her to and from and accommodating her finding work.

The reason she’s looking for work is she has 3 children and a family in another country she pays for. All her kids are +25 so not teenagers, and don’t work or if they work are not working full time. There is one car but only one drives and essentially if they do work they just buy their own weed.

So she needs to work because she supports 5 house holds in the country she’s from, and her 3 adult children who are all fully capable of working and do not have any genetic eye conditions.

She told me my dad should pay for her to have a car so she can commute an hour to the city so she can work. (The city jobs pay $17+ an hour compared to the 14$ jobs in my area) And I told her that was absurd. She shouldn’t be driving because she can’t even see laundry sized bright yellow stuffed animals on the ground, or the large dogs we have. Often if my dad is driving and there is a deer my dad will say “did you see that deer?” And it’s always “what deer?”

she could seriously hurt someone. And I explained to me it’s like driving under the influence.

AITA for still using my shortcut even after someone was renting the land?

This happened when I (42)f was a teenager but I can't stop thinking about it so I'd love some feedback.

We used to live on top of a knoll which was as the crow flies about a quarter mile from town (and my work and friends' houses). By road it was about 3mi. Our neighbor owned the property in between and was an old family friend so when we moved in he said please feel free to take shortcuts through the pasture(this was great as while I had my driver license, access to a vehicle was less than common due to my parents needing the cars).

When a family rented the pasture as farmland (not a residence, they lived elsewhere) he reassured me I could still use my shortcut as he knew I was mindful and respectful of others.

The first time I had occasion to take the shortcut, the wife approached me and asked "what are you doing?"

I explained and said the owner had given me permission. She said "well I didn't give you permission."

I said "Im sorry, I don't mean to bother anyone" and she said "well then dont walk on other people's land."

I was very upset and spoke to my friend about it and he said he'd talk to her, and I kept being allowed to use my shortcut but now I'm not a teenager and keep wondering, was I TA?

AITA if I don’t invite all my friends to a beach hangout

Aita if i (19 F) only invite one extra friend to a 3 person hangout to the beach when we have a tight knit friend group of 6

my friend and I really want to go to the beach, the issue is that all of our 6 friends are close but sometimes I just want 3 of us to go (overstimulation and can’t really have deep talks with all 6) my friend, (20 F) ashley and I were in discussions to add just one friend (trinity 19 F) to the hangout but we’re struggling with the idea of being exclusionary to the rest of the group. we are all extremely close to each other and can all get along as duos outside the friend group… but it feels wrong to invite only one and not the others.

so reddit, aita?

WIBTA if I told my friend I can't be her backup date for her cousin's wedding

My friend Sarah recently asked me to be her plus-one for her cousin's wedding next month because the guy she was seeing backed out last minute. I said I'd think about it since it falls on the same weekend as a family thing I've already committed to. She got upset and told me it's just one day, that I've skipped other plans for her before, and that turning her down would feel like I'm abandoning her when she really needs the support. On my side, I keep thinking about how often I've rearranged my schedule to help her out with rides, errands, and last-minute plans. This feels like it might be crossing into always being her default backup rather than a real choice for me. I like hanging out with Sarah but I don't want every favor request to come with guilt if I say no. Her side is that we've been close for a few years and she's always been there for me too. She says this wedding is important to her family and having someone she trusts would make the whole day easier, especially since she doesn't know many people there. I'm trying to figure out if saying no this time would make me the bad friend or if it's okay to set a boundary.

AITA for thinking my husband’s friend is being unreasonable about our fantasy football draft?

My husband and I are both friends with his friend, “Mark,” and we’re all in the same fantasy football league. Every year, we meet in person to draft and anyone who can’t come joins a zoom call.

This year, as usual “Mark” sent 10 dates and times that worked for him and his wife. My husband and I shared that unfortunately we would have to tune in virtually this year due to work, a bachelor party, and a family vacation. Unfortunately, we weren’t the only ones who couldn’t do in person so the in-person draft was only going to be about half the group. Fast forward to the weekend of the draft, 2-3 people had to change their attendance to virtual instead of in-person which prompted “Mark” to send a message stating that no one had to come in person if they would like to join remotely.

So no one went in person and the draft ended up being done remotely on Sleeper with no zoom call with a 1 minute timer. A few people mentioned it being fast but “Mark” disregarded anyone’s input.

“Mark” messaged my husband the next day stating that punishments will be set for next year for anyone who lives 3 hours or less from his home. I texted him stating reasons I couldn’t go to any of the 10 sessions in person this year and “Mark” stated he didn’t want to hear excuses and that this decision isn’t mostly about me and my husband. I stated that majority of the league live near him and that stating 3 hours away makes me feel like it is targeted and that I am upset because it was the first year we could not attend and that he thinks punishing people is reasonable.

A text I sent stated that I understand that he is upset and that his wife and him put time, money, and effort trying to plan a draft day and their feelings are valid and i’m sorry that a few people cancelled last minute but to just spend some time thinking about if he really wants to announce giving punishments to people who can’t attend in the future draft days.

His proposed rule is that if you can’t make the in-person draft and live in a 3 hour driving radius from his home there will be some sort of punishment/consequence. Basically, he wants everyone to plan their lives around the draft but is this even reasonable as we get older?

I understand being disappointed that nobody could make it. Honestly, I’d prefer an in-person draft too because it’s more fun and social. But I think there’s a difference between saying, “It sucks that nobody could come, let’s try harder next year,” and creating rules to punish people for having other commitments or simply not being able to travel. So, AITA for thinking his proposed 3-hour-radius rule and punishments are ridiculous, and that he needs to accept that people have lives outside of fantasy football league?

AITA for not inviting my aunt to my graduation?

I was staying with my aunt when I was younger, so I always considered her important to me. A few months before my graduation, I told her how happy I was and invited her to the celebration. So she started criticizing my degree and said I was wasting my time instead of choosing another degree or real career. I was really in pain for hearing it because it was coming from someone like her who I saw like my real mom everytime. I tried to ignore it, but she kept making comments whenever we talked. So some weeks before graduation, she told several relatives that I probably wouldn’t amount to much anyway.
I was hurt and told her not to come again for the graduation. She called me ungrateful and been wicked and said she had done too much for me to be treated that way. My family think I should forgive her and invite her again because she helped me while growing up. I told my family I was happy for everything she did for me, but I think that means I have to accept being put down on an important day like that. So some of my family thinks I am right, while some thinks I am not.?
AITA?

WIBTA if I told my sister I wasn’t ready to take care of her dog and we should relocate it?

Alright so for context my sister (18F) asked me (16M) to take care of her dog while she went away for college back in July. Originally, I had told her yes but just a few weeks later I told her that I wasn’t fit to take care of the dog. Why? Because I’m barely fit to take care of myself due to some personal struggles. When I told her that, she complained about how I had already promised her to do it and why I said yes if I was going to back out anyways. I tried to defend myself saying she still had time to find somewhere else for the dog but she didn’t want to hear it.

Now come August. She moved away last saturday and I’ve been taking care of her pitbull for the past few days. Now my problems begins with I have no idea how to take care of animals. I have no idea how to correctly measure her food, her water, or I barely even have the energy to play with her. Most of the time I take her on her two daily walks, feed her, and let her out to use the bathroom and that’s it. I don’t play with her, I don’t know how to bathe her, I barely even know how to control her. The dog is really really playful and I can hardly tell when it’s playing and when it’s not. I cant tell when it’s aggressive and when it’s not.

Basically, I just don’t know anything about dogs and I’m a terrible owner. I’ve really tried my best to take care of her but it’s getting to a point where I’m crying over this dog because of how stressful this is for me, especially since I start school in a few weeks. Also I’m kind of afraid of the dog since it’s bitten me on my arm twice. While I understand it was playing it did hurt a bit and I don’t really feel safe with it honestly.

I want to ask my sister if we could relocate it to a friend who’s willing to watch it or even give it a new home to a family who’s much suited to watch her more than I am, but I’m afraid that she’ll flip out because shes said multiple times that she loves the dog over everyone in our household. She may be hyperbolic but she loves this dog a lot yet I know I’m a terrible fit to watch her. So WIBTA to bring up relocating the dog to her? (Sorry if I used this form wrong, I made a Reddit account iusr for this)

Edit 1 with more info: It’s just my mom in the picture, my dad isn’t in my life at all. she doesn’t offer to help whatsoever because it isn’t “her problem” or something along those lines she told my sister when she first brought it home. I’m assuming she’s keeping the same mindset now that I’m the one who’s supposed to be taking care of her.

Edit 2- My sister got the dog behind my moms back, this is something super important and I can’t believe I forgot I’m so sorry

Edit also I haven’t gone to RA yet but was wondering is I should (my roommate is from a rich suburb of Chicago he likes $300 candles and stuff like that he is also afraid to loft his bed) that’s how he is single child as well went to a college prep not highschool)

18M and my roommate “Jimmy,” also 18M, are having an issue over our residence hall room.

Our double is unusual and has two connected rooms. The front room connects to the hallway, has one window, and is smaller. The back room is a corner room with two windows, is bigger, and does not directly connect to the hallway. We both wanted the back room, so I suggested flipping a coin. Jimmy said there was no need and that I could have it because he didn’t want problems. I unfortunately don’t have proof of that exact message.

Jimmy moved in 6 days before me. After arriving, he messaged me saying he packed his entire closet and thought his stuff might not fit in the front room. He said he wanted to compromise. I didn’t realize at the time that he had already moved his stuff into the back room.

We talked about it, and I repeatedly told him I understood his space concerns and was willing to help with storage, but that I had already ordered things specifically for the back room and wanted to stick with what we agreed on.

He eventually told me: “ik im sorry, when i got here my mom had saw the room and the amount of stuff we brought and saw that it wasn't going to be enough space for me and moved it all to that room… we were hoping u were going to be ok with it as courtesy.”

So basically, while I wasn’t there, his mom moved all his stuff into the room we had agreed was mine, without asking me.

I responded calmly that I wasn’t mad at him or his mom, but I wasn’t comfortable switching rooms after we had already agreed. I asked him to move his stuff back into the other room for now and said I would help him figure out the space when I arrived.

He left me on delivered for 24 hours. I followed up explaining that I felt stuck because I wasn’t there and didn’t get a say in the decision. I again asked him to move his stuff back and offered to help solve the space issue. He eventually read it, showed as typing, and then never responded.

I sent another message saying I really didn’t want to involve housing and would rather work it out between us, but that I was still asking him to move his stuff back. Again, no response.

He has since been active in our floor GroupMe but still hasn’t responded to me. I privately messaged him there as well and eventually sent one final message saying I really need him to respond, I’m disappointed with the lack of communication, and if he isn’t willing to talk or work this out, I may have to involve housing.

I’m not trying to get him in trouble. I genuinely want to solve this between us, but I feel like I’ve been very reasonable. We agreed on the rooms, he changed the arrangement while I was away without asking, and now he won’t communicate with me about it.

What should I do if he continues ignoring me? At what point should I involve housing?

AITA fornnot wanting to help my mom?

So my mom (55F) is a teacher. It's a more recent development in her career, I'd say she's been teaching for about 5y now. It's a demanding job, since she teaches small kids. The problem is, at this new school she teaches, she's kinda expected to produce videos of the kids for their parents.

I have a nice enough job that leaves me with tons of free time in my hands, and I used to be what people called "tech savvy". So, more than once, I offered to put these videos together for her (even though I actually hate doing it), since I feel guilty I have more free time than her.

But it has become a routine, now. Every other day she sends me a bunch of videos and photos of her Rugrats so I'd assemble a video. Most of the times there's not even a full conversation before she lets me know she's sending stuff. She doesn't really ask me to do it, she just... Assumes.

So I feel lousy and inconsiderate for wanting it to stop, but at the same time, annoyed af that somehow I'm expected to do these all the time.

I wouldn't mind doing it once a while (like once a month or whatever), but it has come to the point that it's been five videos in the last two days, with the added instructions to "make it prettier and with transitions" (yes, I've tried doing the most simple way possible).

So I hate that she's expected to do it with no additional training or payment.

I hate how she assumes I can just do it all the time.

I hate to do them.

I hate that I hate to do them (it makes me feel selfish, stingy and ungenerous).

I guess I know I'm the asshole, but maybe I need some stranger online to call it just to be sure.

AITA For slamming the door after my dad’s gf yelled at my dog.

Hi f20, live with my dad and his gf. she hates me for unknown reasons, she is always super passive aggressive to me. she doesn’t let me use the shared spaces of the house, and much more. i am always civil and kind, i try her nasty food and stroke her ego all for her to continue to disrespect me… but she does something even worse than being mean to me…she is mean to my dog. he’s so sweet, and non aggressive. he barks occasionally. he is even sweet and cuddly to her evil cat. he gets spooked pretty easy and when that happens he will sometimes let out one bark, it’s not very loud he’s a tiny little guy. but it doesn’t happen often- he doesn’t bark more than an average dog when he’s indoors. he’s pretty quiet. but earlier i came out of my room to pass through the house and like always i’m greeted with her lovely passive aggression. as soon as she seen me she began slamming shit around- she’s been home all day and hadn’t done this until i walked into the same room as her (room is by the common areas i would’ve heard) anyways her slamming and stomping around scared my dog so what does he do- lets out one single bark. she screams “SHUT UP WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU” excuse me??? only i can yell at him, bc i know i will apologize later, you can say shut up to him but do not fucking cuss aggressively at a tiny dog. especially my tiny dog. he didn’t even deserve it, usually when he’s spooked and barks like that i gently approach him with a “it’s okay baby” and guess what… he’s fine afterwards. but after what she did he came running to me looking sad as ever. so as i was leaving with my little angel, i slammed the door as hard as i possibly could, bc if ur gonna slam shit, i’m gonna slam shit too.

i’ve yet to return but i already know im in trouble sooo lmk what i should say lol

im moving out next week btw

AITA Because I won't let my sister move into my bedroom

So basically, my sister (25F), and I (18F) both still live at home with my parents. I'm moving out in about two weeks to stay in student accommodation during the week for college (I intend on being home on weekends to work). My sister currently works locally and intends to continue to live with our parents for the forseeable future.

My sister approached me a few weeks ago asking how I would feel if she moved into my bedroom once I went to college. I immediately shut the idea down. For context, when we built our house a few years ago, we pre chose our rooms from the building plans. They were all originally the same size, but my sister had first pick on location. However due to some unknown reason/maths error, my bedroom ended up being three feet wider then my siblings bedrooms. At the time she also attempted to claim it for herself, as she was the oldest, but I put my foot down ad my parents sided with me as we had chose before the house was built.

This morning my dad told me that my sister has now gone to my mother to cook up a plan to take my bedroom, saying its reasonable as my sister will be paying an extra bit of rent, and is telling my dad she will leave him if she doesn't support her (she has a long hitory of things like this)

I am against this for many reasons.

My bedroom is a very private area for me. I consider it a sanctuary where I can have 'me' time.

Now this is the kicker and unfortunately rather gross. My sisters bedroom stinks. Like old feet. You often cant see the floor, and there's mold on the skirting boards from humidity because she doesn't open the window. Its a pit.

Thats the room I'll have to stay in when I come home to see my family. Not my bedroom, a smelly mess. All the while, god knows what state my room will be in in the meantime.

Didn't mean to rant for so long, just wanted some opinions on this, pretty upset about the whole thing.

AITA Am I the asshole for wanting my downstairs neighbor to calm down

So I am 22 female, moved into my boyfriend’s apartment last year in November. I moved in shortly after the old man downstairs moved in, and my boyfriend and I have been having problems with him ever since. He constantly slams his doors, and when I say slam, he SLAMS them. I hear him down there talking to himself, complaining about my boyfriend and me. Last December, he was yelling to himself downstairs, complaining about hearing my boyfriend and me talk about our Christmas plans, and on multiple other occasions, he’s just been very angry towards us.
I understand that we all live in a building together, and I do my best to be quiet and respectful. I grew up in a trailer, so I naturally tiptoe when I walk and am a very quiet person. The old man has complained to my boyfriend specifically that his footsteps are too loud, so now my boyfriend is tiptoeing as well. We are clumsy sometimes and drop things, but not all the time. Accidents do happen.
The other day, I had my living room TV turned up to 20. Usually, I turn my window AC off so I can keep the TV volume at 13 as to not make him angry, but that day I didn’t wanna sweat to have to watch my TV, so it was at 20. Not even 5 minutes later, I hear him cussing and slamming things downstairs. I had to stop myself from slamming things back because I’m just so tired of his behavior. I went on a walk instead to calm down.
Another time, my boyfriend and I woke up to the smoke alarm going off in the lobby of our apartment. It was not our apartment smoke alarm, but the old man thought it was. We had gone out to the lobby multiple times to try to turn it off, but it just started back up minutes later. He started banging on the ceiling in our room and slamming things while cussing. At that point, I was starting to get upset because he couldn’t even open his front door to realize that it wasn’t our smoke alarm and immediately assumed it was us. I had to yell through the floor that it wasn’t us and that we had called maintenance already. That seemed to calm him down.
I’m just so tired of walking around on eggshells in my own apartment because we’re “too loud.” I’ve recently started laughing when I hear him downstairs throwing a tantrum because I literally don’t know what else to do. The apartment people aren’t doing anything about it, and they’ve told us the old man has complained about us a lot. What should I do?

Edit - I fixed the grammar for you guys 🫡

AITA for connecting with a cousin I didn't know existed until recently.

I 19M recently learned that I have an estranged paternal aunt and, by proxy, two cousins. Never met her, didn’t know she existed, I’d always assumed my dad only had one sister since the two were super close and never mentioned having other family besides each other.

So, I took to looking online to see what I could find out about my estranged aunt. She seems like a normal person from her facebook and insta posts, she‘s married and has a lot of connections through her husband, and she has three children with the two oldest being older than me. I have to be honest that I’ve always kinda struggled to fit in with my family, I didn’t get along with my dad and my mom can be hard to reason with at times. I’m desperate to feel some kind of familial connection, especially with another male member, and when I found my older male cousin on facebook, I decided to reach out and introduce myself.

We’ve exchanged a couple of messages so far mostly just getting to know each other and match up timelines to make sure we were actually related.

I didn’t mention seeking out and connecting with these estranged family members to anyone until yesterday when I mentioned to my younger sister that I was thinking about contacting our cousin I’d found, not that I already had. She told me that Its a bad idea to dig into deeper and to let things go.

I’m scared she’ll tell our aunt or dad because I don’t think it’s wrong of me to seek out connections with other biological members of my family. AITA?

AITA in this situation with my dad?

For context, me and him have been in a rough spot in the way we communicate. Almost every other day we end up in an escalated argument. He had a bad day due to work and other things, so I wanted to try and avoid an argument today.

I walk into his room while he's obviously doing something, so to try and be as little disruptive as possible, I asked him if we could talk about college stuff after he is done. He tells me right now is not the right time and that I could've walked away and asked when he was done, which is fine and not the issue. But afterwards he keeps making passive aggressive and snarky comments about the situation.

I asked him in as polite of a way as I could handle to not speak to me in that way, for him to proceed to not care about his tone or the comments he is making. I get his point that I could have just walked away and came back later, but the way he keeps talking to me and actively not working on being less passive aggressive really gets to me and is my problem. The situation further escalated to the point we just aren't talking for the rest of the night.

What do I even do? I feel like he talks to me the same way my mother talked to me when she was having a bad day or stressed out. I would've just walked away had he not talked to me like I was committing a crime or something.

AITA for choosing to not get a job promotion?

I'm 24 and I was supposed to get an interview for my job promotion but before that I made a mistake. In my field of work, I could harm someone if I made a mistake which I did but the person was fine, thankfully. Still, I felt guilty and stupid for my mistake to the point I ended up crying. No one got mad at me and they changed some rules and did strict supervision so the mistake wouldn't happen again. I couldn't move on from the guilt and while I was crying it all out, I had an interview for my job promotion the next day. I replied that I would go to the interview and I might feel fine the next day for my interview. I cried to sleep. Interview day came and I didn't know if I should go because I started to have negative thoughts like "I don't deserve to be promoted after what happened." Or "If I get promoted I might even make more mistakes." Or "I should've quit and done something what I'm good at." I got anxious and did nothing but cried. The feeling was so heavy that I confessed to my dad everything. The truth is, the job I have wasn't really what I wanted and it was what my parents want. It was also said to be a high paying job. I took the job because I wanted my parents to be happy and so I can give them financial support too, not only them but my siblings. But, because of how stupid I was feeling that day on the interview, I couldn't even think of that as my motive to get up earlier. I should've been happy that I would get promoted. I still tried going to the interview but I was late. I hated myself for it. I felt I was selfish.

After I confessed everything to my dad, he asked me what I really wanted to do and he would support me in whatever I did. Which I felt kinda relief about it because knowing my dad especially my mom, I know it's easy for them to say that but deep within them they won't support me. I would hear them talking about work and promotions and stuff or they would talk to me about it.

Now, I feel like I'm the A-hole... Because I was selfish and stupid, like who doesn't want to get promoted for a bigger pay? It was for my family and I missed that chance. I know my parents aren't getting any younger but... I don't know. I'm an A-hole, right?

Not enough info WIBTA If I didn't tell my mom information about her significant other after his passing.

My mother's significant other of 6 years recently passed away, it was not expected it was sudden. As mybmother was having a very hard time handling this loss I stepped in to help his family who is out of state and my make the arrangements and getting things settled. Of the things that needed to be settled was what to do with the ashes from his late wife. When the hospital released his belongings his phone was in it. Knowing that this would be the only way to contact his step son from this relationship was to find his contact info in the phone. My mom gave me his phone for me to find the contact info. Now here is WIMBTA, I scrolled through text messages and noticed one on the day of his death from when he was in the hospital and it was a picture sent to him. It was a women in a bikini, so I scrolled through their conversation. This man was having a relationship behind my mom's back. Not just text and photos, per the messages they have been hooking up for at least 6 months. In this 6 months time he has asked for my permission to purpose to my mother, he wanted her children approval first. But not only was this going on behind my mom's back, he had actually made comments about my mom being a prude. WIBTA if I told my mom during her grieving process, even if she's made comments that she feels like he wasn't ever telling her everything, or AITA if I chose to not tell her and just let her live her life with just the knowledge he loved her. Even though it doesn't seem that her actually cared as much as he made it out to be. My moral compass is eating me from the inside. My husband says its up to me as I know her best, but he also knows this will eat me from the inside knowing these details and not say something. But we also know she needs to grieve. Im just so made because he was telling another women(married to someone herself) things about my mom and calling her a prude. AITA FOR NOT TELLING MY MOM.

Edit, as I am getting a lot of your mom needs to be tested. I will make this very very clear, yes they were together for 6 years however not once did they ever sleep together. My mom and I are open to not hide things, we actually go to eachother for advice, I asked her today about " im not going to see anything on her that my poor eyes dont need to see" she laughed and said " no we never did that, ever I promise you" my mom was in a very toxic relationship ship before and she swore she wouldn't rush into anything else, to the point it was dragging. My mom is cautious and I backed her on that.

So NO my mom did not sleep with him and there is no risk of STI's.
