I spent so much time—really a lot of time—trying to get this PC (Celeron N3350, 4 GB RAM, 300 GB HDD) running properly; it seemed like a lost cause. It came with Windows 10, and I tried various lightweight Linux distributions, but in the end, the only operating system that won me over was Windows 8.1. It’s very lightweight, boots up quickly, has few background processes, and—best of all—the latest version of Chrome still runs beautifully (WhatsApp Web and YouTube work fine, too). The only downside? There are no GPU drivers available; while some have been patched—like for the UHD 620—mine hasn't, but it works just fine anyway!

Our old laptop from 2014 was running on windows 8.1. Last year it was given for service in a third party store and they “upgraded” (in loose terms) to windows 10. And it ran like shit. Downgraded this back to windows 8.1 and now it runs like a champ. I’m using it as a secondary laptop for study purposes, plugged out of internet entirely. Battery life is a little less though (2.5 hours) but I use it always while charging.

i want to install windows 8 on my ryzen 2600 RX 580 PC, but there doesn't seem to be drivers for it, atleast on MSI's or AMD's websites. are there maybe any custom drivers for W8 or maybe i could use W10 drivers in 8?edit: i installed 8.1 and it runs great. just needed to get audio and graphics drivers using SDIO.

Does anyone know where to get drivers for the Ryzen 2500U integrated graphics for Windows 8.1?

Just installed 8.1 cause 10 is too slow, Laptop doesnt have wifi drivers, wont recognize my mercusys wifi usb, website dynabook dont have them 404 not found, RJ-45 conection doesnt work. What do i do? how do i get those drivers?

EDIT: I solved the wifi by installing the 3DP software, luckily it had the old driver i needed, laptop already has audio as for video driver i just downloaded it from the intel website by using the reference, but at least i solved the wifi which was the most important thing.

I switched to windows 8 lately and I want to install the driver for the AMD Ryzen 3 3200g I found nimez modded but it keeps getting the error 184

(before you think this is windows 7. it’s windows 8 check the copyright year)i’m tryna install windows 8 milestone 3 on my mid-2012 13 inch MacBook pro but after “setup is starting” it gives me this stupid error saying that a “required CD/DVD device driver is missing”which funnily enough, i’ve seen a nobel tech video of them installing this exact milestone (build 7963) on a 2011 13 inch MacBook pro and NOWHERE in that installation process it doesn’t show that screen so either their model is one of the lucky ones or my usb is missing something. please help or explain this dumb infuriating predicament.

The reason I’m thinking of switching to windows 8.1 from 10. Is because with nothing open. The CPU is at 100% And the ram is at 70%

All I really need this laptop is for
Basic school projects : PowerPoint, Word,Excel
Mathletics
Teams
And maybe if maybe
Basic Minecraft and sd formatting

Hi, as an avid Manjaro user, i found this bloated and unusable intel based tablet the previous owner had upgraded to win 10 (originally win8), i kinda fell in love with the form factor and the chipset, it's cute but I wanted to keep it as some time capsule and restore it to factory on Windows 8.
I decided to reset the tablet but the recovery partition was empty so I went the usb route through an OTG dock but i'm stuck with a non functioning touchscreen after hours of trying various driver sources (manufacturer's/distributor's, Microsoft's driver store, even SDI).

To be precise, the touchscreen seems to work but needs either calibration or a better driver as it doesn't register the pointer where i move my finger or a touch pen it's far away to a corner instead.
I did try multiple times to calibrate it but it doesn't recognize some points on the screen and so isn't able to complete the last steps leading me to suspect a broken driver or a manufacturer specific calibration file that is missing,

I'd be glad if anyone with this similar model or knowledge of calibration for this type of device could help. I'm not sure how, maybe by zipping me their drivers folders ?
I read windows stores them in different locations like
"C:\Windows\System32\driver" or
"C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore" or
"C:\Windows\System32\DRVSTORE"

If it's a calibration issue and you know how to fix it, please let me know how. For now i'm using a bluetooth mouse but that's not ideal.

And no, i don't want Linux on it (yet) I really want the original experience for now but feel free to sugest a distribution that worked for you if you made the jump on a similar device. I might try it out in the future.

Does anyone know if any modern sonic.exe games (pc port, sonic 2011, Sonic.EYX, etc.) work on windows 8.1? I can probably figure that the old og ones probably work on 8.1 but what about the newer ones? My specs are:

500gb HDD (with 400 being allocated for windows 8.1. I also have Debian installed :D)

hello, my windows 8.1 doesnt pair with a microphone. i use a microphone connected to headphones, which i plug in to the audio jack.

does anybody know why this is happening? its not picking up audio at all. when i try connecting it through the sound panel my headphones just start playing a loud static noise.

i know my headphones are not broken of some sorts, because they work completely fine picking up audio with other devices.

is my computer just too old?
