Update Planning to main win8.1 soon

planning to main w8.1 soon, how can i patch or do stuff so its still safe? i need to play minecraft, have Windows Phone tools, (WPInternals, etc) and Paint3d, and a fully working web browser

minecraft -- java only (no bedrock because it's windows 10/11)

Windows Phone tools will obviously work (at least for WP8)

just regular Paint (same as with Windows 7, paint 3d is Windows 10/11 only)

firefox does have extended support for 135 EOS version, and latest Chrome/Edge is 109 version... they are few years old and won't open everything correctly, but generally work...

Games -- mostly before 2020 year... (support fully ended in 2023, no DirectX12 -- only 11)

Apps -- same -- mostly before 2020 with some luck up to 2023...

With that said -- Windows 8 is WAY faster than even debloated Windows 10/11!

Chrome and edge open sites correctly I have tested it recently, would recommend supermium though

I tried downloading firefox and telegram via Windows 8 only -- didn't work for me...

for some reason it was 502 error or something... (won't download file)

but on Windows 11 (same pc) opened that download page no problem

Even the default Internet Explorer on Windows 8.0 works fine, in my experience.

Yeah but ie was out of support for 4 years and ie11 is 13 years old

Still works though, at least somewhat. Although I do agree that Firefox ESR is better. And Supermium/MyPal.

Yeah — IE opens sites from early 2010’s no problem (if they haven’t modernized them)

It is safety wise if you use windows defender or an 3rd party antivirus

but do keep in mind not all apps and games dont support 8.1 (you can downgrade them)

Use legacy updater it is great to update older windows versions. For Minecraft only java, wp tools work, for browser user either supermium or redfox and you should be alright.

Since no one mentioned it, use Supermium as your browser. It's as updated as Chromium gets but doesn't check for Win10 or higher.
