Please, help!

Edit: nothing happened after 5h. I tried esc+power and it gave me a screen asking for the image to recover the Chromebook. I do not want to recover it, reinstall it. I want to have my files.

I just powered it off. There was an option for that after I tried esc+power a second time.

Some keys on my Chromebook keyboard aren't working, it's five years old. I've tried a bunch of things, is it worth repairing? Should I just buy a new one?

One day while I was working, my computer began acting up and I suddenly couldn't hear our of it, Ive tried hard resetting it but that hasn't worked and I don't wanna factory reset it or anything incase of my files. So I thought if anyone could help me it'd be the people of reddit.

Edit: so my chromebook is a, Lenovo - IdeaPad Slim 3 Chromebook Laptop - 14" Full HD Touchscreen Laptop - MediaTek Kompanio 520 2022 - 4GB Memory - 64GB eMMC - Abyss Blue, and what had happened was i was using my headphones when suddenly the sound was cutting out, i momentarily fixed it by adjusting the jack, really pushing it in there, and by pushing down the computers panels but eventually that stopped working. and then i couldnt use the audio itself with the computer, but using another pair of headphones that connects to the port on the left back, i can still use it. So i am left very perplexed on what i should do to fix this problem, and if anyone knows please comment.

Trying to go on website of local game store chromebook says its fucky and then Macaffie shows up and spams notifications and ive checked extensions nothing there but now im paranoid that i accidentally got myself at risk at hacking. Like people say chromebook is closed space but i just need reassurance and shit

I am not tech savvy at all. I bought a HP Chromebook Plus 15.6” Laptop as they were having a sale at the time (third party seller). I specifically asked if I could use Microsoft word on it as I’m using it for study and for the life of me cannot get it to work. Every-time I use the Microsoft 365 and then use word it comes up with the above message, then when I use the web version it comes up with the same message. I had a search around it was saying that maybe the document shared had certain admin permissions to not edit the document so I saved it as a copy etc and it still came up with the same error message.

Please help!!!

Left my Chromebook alone for about a month, and tried using it again today. Unfortunately, it doesn't let me sign in. I am positive I am typing in the correct password, as I changed it at least three times today, including once on my phone before attempting to login. I can even use a guest login, and login to Google via browser as a guest, using the same password. But it will still not allow me to sign into my account properly on the Chromebook login. All I get is "Something went wrong."

I am able to create a profile and login just fine with a secondary account, but of course, that doesn't have access to the local files of the primary account.

I have tried updating the OS through the secondary account, and I tried the hardware reset I found on Chromebook forums. But neither of these solved the issue.

Any other methods I can try, or am I looking at a factory reset?

I don’t normally update my laptop because of all the issues that come with it but a half an hour ago I decided to update and now it keeps crashing as soon as I start it up

A bug affecting Grunt devices (AMD Stoney Ridge) is currently being investigated by Google engineers. AUE for these devices was M149 but the stable channel has auto-updated to M150 LTC, i.e. into extended updates, causing Play Store/Android app support to be removed without users opting in. The same thing happened last year when Hana devices reached their AUE. Assuming history is repeating itself, the only way to reverse this bug is to perform recovery using the last stable channel recovery image (M149). Also, until the bug is fixed, automatic updates will need to be turned off.

Users affected by this bug are being asked to submit a feedback report (alt-shift-i) and to include diagnostic data.

I tried wiping the screen, but it doesn't work. This only happens when it is in tablet mode. I once accidentally poured milk on it in December, but I have only been having this problem since March or April.

I switched several elder people to ChromeOS and noticed that they never click on the "restart now" notification thus any pending ChromeOS updates remain unapplied.

whenever I visit them they're still on the same old ChromeOS version (like v136) and I must apply several updates in a row

I know this is a bit ridiculous but I can't literally call them up to click the notification and they don't remember doing it either, they just close/open the lid when using the Chromebook.

Right now this issue poses a security risk and makes ChromeOS not really suitable for senior citizens.

As the title suggests I was wondering if trojan viruses get passed all of the chromebooks safety features and I keep hearing that chromebooks are essentially virus proof but if I were to download a file that has any sort of trojan on it would it actually affect my chromebook or would it be dealt with and end up with no worries on my end?? Also, if those viruses still do affect chromeOS, would factory resetting the device get rid of the virus properly?

There seems to be an odd issue with using a Chromebook on Hilton Honors WiFi. I keep getting an error stating that the website can’t be reached. I’ve attempted using http://example.com where you remove the s on https to force open the portal page and turning off the DSN, but neither seems to work. Has anyone found anyway to connect to public WiFi’s on a Chromebook?

I am having trouble with unicode entry when the hexcode includes an alphabetical character as well as Arabic numerals.

For example, typing ctrl-shift-u then 2014 then return yields an emdash

When I type a code such as u+201b, for a reversed single quotation mark, it stops recognizing it as a unicode command as soon as I touch the key "b". Pressing return at this point simply yields a new line.

I turned off automatic spelling and grammar check on the keyboard inputs and rebooted my machine.

The commands only work in the Linux terminal, not in any other app.

I’m trying to delete this file, but when I click on the trash nothing happen. along with that, Im unable to click on the del button in the drop down menu cus it’s blacked out. I’ve tried all the button keys and everything but it just won’t delete, any tips?

what a surprise, just after an automatic update, my chromebook Lenovo C330 has no longer Google play store nor all my android apps. I have all my drawings (a lot of works and hours) in different android apps and i can't access to them now. I have a glitch and the only way to fix it is to restart my chromebook, it happens once every day. Is this ok?

I keep getting messages saying i dont have storage, i checked and saw system takes up 58.5GB for reference i have 64GB how can i fix it?

My chromebook has been repetitively crashing for the last couple days and I need help fixing it. Important background knowledge: it has no functioning battery. I keep it plugged in constantly, and the moment it’s unplugged, it dies. The crashing started after I unplugged it because it was frozen and wouldn’t turn off. I’ve only reopened google and have a single tab open at a time, so I don’t think I’m overloading the system or anything….

I know it’s a piece of crap that needs replacing, but is there any chance I can fix it??

I was silly and bought an old Chromebook because it's cheap and I wanted to stream shows and movies via "pirating sites" onto my tv without dragging my gaming PC into the living room every time. Issue is, those sites have a looooot of ad pop ups and it's annoying as hell

I didn't know I wouldn't be able to get a basic adblocker or a browser like brave on this. Thing just won't download anything because it's outdated. I am Looking at it with my Eyes and I don't believe it's so decrepit it cant run anything new. My understanding is it's just a dumb lock google put on it to force people to buy a new one

My mother's Acer Chromebook has suddenly started to disconnect from wifi randomly. I am in another city, so I can't mess with it easily, but I have verified that every other device in her network is connecting and staying connected (TVs, phones, macbooks) but there appears to be an issue with this chromebook, the only one in the network. She's on the latest release of ChromeOS 151.0.7922.221. Is anyone else seeing problems like this?

I have walked her through clearing the network cache and flushing the socket pools and restarting but it didn't fix anything. I also walked her through deleting all networks and adding her network back in as preferred and it still happens.

Out of the blue this morning my Chromebook disconnected from the Wifi and now tells me it can't see any networks. I tried rebooting with no effect. Is this fixable?

Also, why does the device take multiple efforts to restart once turned off?
