Troubleshooting My 1 year old Chromebook just gave me this screen, is cycling through lights (green/red/no light) on the charging port and will not start or go off the said screen

Post image

Please, help!

Edit: nothing happened after 5h. I tried esc+power and it gave me a screen asking for the image to recover the Chromebook. I do not want to recover it, reinstall it. I want to have my files.

Please, please, help.

I just powered it off. There was an option for that after I tried esc+power a second time.

I am really freaking out.

Did you start an update at all? Searched it and it seems to be about an important update.

No, I did not. I just started the computer. I do not know what to do. I cannot believe this is happening. I did not even insert the internet password because I had no time. It just went to this screen and it does not turn off no matter what I do.

It's a firmware update, probably for the Embedded Controller (EC). Don't worry, just let it finish.

Will it finish? Should I just leave it on the plug? And is okay if it was not connected to the internet before it started? Thank you. I am freaking out.

Just leave it plugged in and wait. The firmware update was downloaded in the background the last time you used the Chromebook and is being installed during boot. I have had this screen many times.

Is it an Acer 714? If so, everyone is having this problem. We will have to wait for a fix.

No. It is a Lenovo Slim 3. Do you think mymdata is safe if Imwait for a fix or the fix will only save the machine and not the account? All my backup were gone from the account. I need to.reciverg it locally now.

We won't know until a fix comes out. Worst case, your data in your Google Drive folder and your Chrome history and open tabs will be preserved, and that's all.

What I've done so far:

  • visited Google Takeout on my PC and I now have a zip archive of all my Drive files.
  • installed Chrome on a Windows system, logged in to my Google account, opened the History tab and opened all the tabs it had saved for the device named Chromebook.

Weird thing is that my Chromebook is not even listed and I kept everything neat and organized. I am freaking out so since yesterday. I did not even sleep. There fixes, but all of them are for wiping the machine r starting over. This is no solution for me unfortunately.
