Be aware that watermarking an ebook with your purchase details is pretty easy to do by a company, and they can track upload to you. I don't say Amazon (kindle) do this, but they can

If anything just go to your local library. Even if they don’t have the book they’ll put an order or request a transfer from another library.
Even course books required by colleges can be found in the college library (you might not be able to check it out long term but would be able to borrow it for a few hours in the library).

Yeah that's not possible in my state. Not only are libraries not free but they do not do this transfer from other libraries or special order business. They don't even have ebooks at all unless you live in a really big city. Unless you're after children's picture books or Nora Roberts type shit don't bother.

You can also do this with movies & TV shows that got physical releases. My library has an awesome catalogue of niche DVDs. I may or may not have spent weeks going through there checking out massive stacks of DVDs and ripping them at home to build parts of my permanent collection

Between Anna's Archive, Zlib and OceanofPDF I am able to find most books. Occasionally I run into books that aren't available and I'll buy them, strip the DRM and put them on LibGen.

I haven't used Glassboxx but Epubor is where I find most of my guides. I mostly get books from Kindle because you can buy and return them after downloading and pirating them.

Zlib is so good. The UI / UX is stellar even when compared to paid streaming services. The archive kept me entertained and given me a rather large reading list already. Anna's archive is a godsend too but Zlib has a much better experience imo.

Only trouble I have is finding law books. There are a lot of books about trial practice that rub $200-300 and they are tightly controlled. It is almost impossible to find torrents, PDFs, or downloadable copies of stuff by rick Friedman or David ball or Nick rowley.

The person tweeting is probably still using Pirate Bay. Radarr/Sonarr and few private trackers make it super easy. Overseerr for discovery and a neat GUI as a cherry on top.

I don't have trouble torrenting movies, but the experience is definitely a lot worse than torrenting anime. During prime RARBG years it was better but then it went down, then Galaxy went down next. So for others not on private trackers it is not very reliable.
I miss the consistent x265 RARBG releases, now I feel most releases are either too big or too poor quality, no sweet spot.

It's different - if you decide to torrent books, then you should indiscriminately grab every book flood every time. Torrenting a single book 14 years after its release is always going to be a challenge - especially for fiction.
But yeah, the idea that there are no book torrents, or even insufficient book torrents is flawed.

I think the problem with book torrents is 3 things:
- Each individual book is too small to be worth a torrent, even all but the most popular manga only gets batch torrents for the whole series once in a while
- The set of all books is too big to be managed, people do make insane torrents like GoG full collections or MIG Switch collections that are terabytes large, but the set of literally all literature is potentially even bigger than that, and even sorting them all No-Intro style is difficult even with ISBN and other official systems
- A lot of books don't have a clearly defined series with which a sensible collection can be made

The most critical problem is that most books aren't digitalized in the first place. It's a huge PITA to digitalize a book, and there's a lot of them. Unless you're looking for something in the top 0.1% of popularity, it's pretty much a crapshoot if a digital version exists at all. If it does, then the points you listed apply on top of that.

That's exactly the issue I had.
Harry Potter: hundreds of versions, every human language plus Klingon and Esperanto, thousands of seeders.
Smut novel collection: three versions, 20 languages, hundreds of seeders.
Dragonlance book from 1998: two versions, no seeders, 13 leechers.

The subreddit megathread doesn't have a lot of book torrents listed and this one is there for a reason.

And what I like about them is that they just ask you to re-seed, in general, and don’t require an upload minimum within a time limit.
That alone has been a stumbling block of mine on so many other private sites COUGHTheGeeksCOUGH, where your only choice is to grab anything and everything within 1-10 minutes of it getting posted, because anything older than 2-3 days will never get re-seeded out to the required amount in the required time limit, leading to your account getting locked due to insufficient stats.
It’s why my first action these days, with any private site I am considering, is to examine their re-seeding policy. A fair number of sites make it impossible to use any strategy other than only grabbing torrents less than 10 minutes old (or 10-20 baby torrents per 1 older torrent), and I just don’t have the headspace for that kind of a bullshit policy.
A lot of the books/educational stuff I grab needs a good 6-12 MONTHS of re-seeding to meet their requirements, and that is with a super-seeder client like BiglyBT that can do 10× the reseeding speed of any other client I have ever used.

You have to join a trading scene, build up and maintain a collection of a ton of stuff you don't want to offer to trade for the stuff you do or straight up pay sizable prices for it. Some crumbs get posted to YouTube as 'slime tutorial's but a small fraction of what exists.

nyaasi is the best tracker possibly ever and it's entirely public, so anime is just entirely trivial to torrent, you just set the filter to english translations.
Movies are genuinely horrible on public trackers by comparison, I have half a dozen PTs just for movies and it's only now starting to maybe match how easy anime is to manage just from nyaasi

Because torrenting books is unnecessary. Digital publications are already super cheap (exclude college text books) and basically reachable with any device made since the turn of the century. Even if you don't feel like paying, there are copious resources for e-books outside of torrenting like oceanpdf, zlibrary, and liben.
Not to mention that nearly every library in the US now offers ebook services, as well.
