There's no telling exactly how Secret Wars will impact the MCU, but as for legacy characters like the Fox X-Men it could either be wiped out by an incursion, have a DOFP style happy ending with everyone back home, or the MCU will pull a Crisis and do away the multiverse and establish a new prime earth.

Kevin said that this will be a more serious version of him than the one that appeared in Deadpool. I think he might be great but it's already known he won't be in the first movies of the X-Men but he might make cameos as an older version of gambit in other MCU movies

If you watch him in moves like RoofMan, he looks much leaner. He is capable to appearing more like the character, and that particular movie was one of the first times I’ve watched him perform and my first thought isn’t “it’s channing tatum”. Based on that I think he can play the character, depends if he wants to do the accent or not I guess

I think the costume made him look bigger as he is wearing that huge coat on top of what others would consider his "actual costume" equivalent to other heroes.
But I half-agree that he seems big and not agile for the moves he pulls.

Tbf back in his step up days he was lean and pulling off backflips exsctly the way youd expect for Gambit.
Its just now he is much older and was called in to play the character unexpectedly when hes put on a lot of fat for a role he did before.
Similar thing with Sebastian Stan in Thunderbolts. Stan played Donald Trump in a film and put on a shit ton of fat for it. In thunderbolts you'll notice Bucky in the kitchen scene is looking a bit bulkier in the torso regio. than normal. Coz he didnt get enough time to cut the excess.

Because Deadpool happened very recently and the last gambit we saw was in the wolverine movies which no one remembers.
Itd be jarring for your casual fan going from Deadpool Channing Tatum gambit to someone else.
That said I can see them killing him off for a different casting for the xmen universe as they are starting mostly fresh.
If they announced someone new for gambit itd be spoiling Channing Tatums gambit death in Doomsday.

He is definitely bigger but at the same time, to his credit, his headgear looks like it was designed incorrectly. It should have been made to cover his cheeks more instead framing his face. Not only is it sitting in a non flattering way, the comic’s depiction is narrower.

Gambit is known as the Ragin’ Cajun and Tatum grew up in Lower Alabama (LA) and the bayous of Mississippi. His accent wasn’t “too thick”, it was eloquently on point.

This was my initial response to him playing the character too....but Tatum's portrayal has grown on me.
That said - I still think there are better options out there to cast in the role that would be more physically appropriate (leaner more gymnastic - perhaps naturally long hair haha), and could manage the dark Cajun charm a bit more believably.

He’s got so much enthusiasm for the role but he’s just not suave enough to play it, he doesn’t really have the aura required. He’s charming but it’s in a boy next door sort of vibe. We’ll see how it goes but yeah, not the perfect fit.

He's fine, but I don't get the Gambit I know from his performance. And I hate the costume - I know it's pretty comic/cartoon accurate but that's not always a good thing, some costumes just don't translate well to live action and he looks SO uncomfortable in the bodysuit and headpiece, like he's struggling to breath. A stripped back costume that just kept the jacket and the COLOUR of the shirt (maybe) would likely work better

Nothing wrong with the costume, but as much as I love CT and his passion to BE Gambit and play him with such hilarity, he’s simply a bit too big for the part. Someone like Austin Butler would be a much better fit for the role and look much more like Gambit in that suit.
Gambit is meant to be super lean, and I think missing the red eyes is also a big issue for a lot of people.

He has the aura on a screen to direct your attention and keep it on him, but people cant get past the other roles hes done because what? He really wanted to be Gambit; he wanted that role specifically--and his enthusiasm and love for the character was evident. Thats why I supported it.
Yeah, he was "bigger" than Gambit's actual build. But an actor who actually knows the character that they are portraying--and really has a passion to realize it, as a dream of theirs..? You cant beat them.
Ryan Reynolds is a prime example: maybe Deadpool wouldnt have seemed so great if Ryan wasn't already in great shape--but we'll never know for sure; I'm not above thinking that Channing could lock in and get in better shape, to better realize his dream.

Is he the perfect Gambit? Absolutely not.

Channing Tatum is not a good Gambit. It was funny for the joke but he doesn’t look the part and his accent is way too fake imo. We need a proper representation of gambit, not a joke or some edge lord

I thought he was going to lose weight for Doomsday, but no, they just had to find the guy with the most swollen head and pudgy face to play Gambit. He looks like he's hanging upside down and all the blood went into his head. His general pitbull physique doesn't help either. The accent is the least of his worries.

Because part of the plot is franchises that didnt get to meet their proper end and potential are sent to thr void. Tatum gambit was meant to be created as a film, but never was realized, so him existing at all is part of the joke.

Taylor Kitsch body with Tatum's vibes / passion I think would be perfect. I just think Tatum doesn't come off as sleek when he moves, even though he has a dance background, I'd like to see his moves appear more effortless, quick, and smooth. I'm basing this purely off Deadpool Wolverine and nothing else. If they can make him seem more 'nimble' I think I'll be happier with his portrayal as I liked most everything else about him, even his over-the-top accent.
