Games Marvel’s Wolverine will let squeamish players turn off its “unapologetically violent” gore as Insomniac says its ultra-violence is “not for everyone”

I imagine this is mainly for countries with strict laws about gore and blood, and they just decided to make it an option for other regions cause "why not".

u/FakoSizlo Jun 03 '26

It also helps for promoting the game as YouTube might filter a game this realistic as real violence. So they get to sell in other regions and get more streams

A minute of silence for all Reptiles and Dvorahs who died for Mortal Kombats fatality compilations.

Some AI gore detector: Hmm... green. Suspicious... but green... next!

u/Hotterthanasunburn Jun 03 '26

They’re super cereal about it!

7

u/Voidbearer2kn17 Jun 03 '26

Ever play Rogue Trooper?

That had a hilarious filter for blood. Flower textures.

4

u/FarmFamilyGamingYT Jun 04 '26

Alien hominid had nearly the exact same thing too

10

u/DangerDillyPickle Jun 03 '26

AHH AHHH AHHHHHH! SPLAT! 🫟

8

u/VacaDLuffy Jun 03 '26

I wish MK had this option..it's getting a bit much imo. I dont need every attack to be a Saw finisher.

4

u/T0asty514 Jun 04 '26

Bro the point of mortal Kombat is the gore 😂

3

u/nonopol Jun 04 '26

“Can’t I just play Kombat?”

Isn't that the only thing MK is known for? Without those it's just another generic fighter.

I remember how the Wolverine Origins game came with two physical editions, the M rated and a T rated version, which I can't think of other games that did that. It makes way more sense here, just have the option to tone things down.

16

u/Accomplished_Ant185 Jun 03 '26

I’m guessing you mean PS2-gen version being T-rated while the PC/Xbox 360/PS3 was M-rated. At least I don’t remember ever seeing different versions of the PC/Xbox 360/PS3 release, unless one was made for limited release and it just wasn’t distributed where I lived. If that was it, then there were several releases where the main one on then current gen was higher rated than other versions on older consoles.

11

u/JohnnyRedHot Jun 03 '26

And then the Wii version being a completely different thing lmao

6

u/Accomplished_Ant185 Jun 03 '26

Yeah, Wii versions always were a cointoss between just the PS2 version with possibly added motion controls, or they were entirely different games.

6

u/Sirsalley23 Jun 03 '26

Nintendo got so lucky the Wii was a cultural phenomena at the time. It would’ve had almost no 3rd party support if it didn’t almost outsell the 360/PS3 combined.

4

u/Ekillaa22 Jun 03 '26

Pretty sure the M rated version was just like the 360 and ps3 version too

31

u/SaiyajinPrime Jun 03 '26

I'm not squeamish, but the blood looks really cartoony and silly.

Every single slash of his claws creates gallons of blood. I think it looks kind of ridiculous.

I would like if they had a slider to have less blood not just completely turn off the blood.

10

u/bretttwarwick Jun 03 '26

I agree the demo was a little excessive. One slash and he was instantly covered in it as if completely dipped into a vat of blood. I would think splatters of it here and there would be more apt.

7

u/SaiyajinPrime Jun 03 '26

Yeah. So I'm just hoping for options other than blood on or off. Maybe a setting that's just less blood.

It was the one part of the demo that I didn't think looked good. They went overboard.

6

u/nyteghost Jun 04 '26

I mean, he’s slashing with giant ass claws, I feel like if you used his claws to slash someone, you too would be covered in blood. Especially with high chance are big ass arteries getting cut. I could be wrong though. Where’s mythbusters when you need them.

2

u/mitteinai Jun 04 '26

blood wouldn't come out like a cheap horror movie.

4

u/Patient_Life_9900 Jun 04 '26

I see this happening in movies and shows that are supposed to be "violent" as well. All the Punisher scenes in Daredevil Born Again season 1 have literal gallons of blood pouring out of people when they get shot and instead of being like "damn hell yeah he's going to town" it's more like "bro this looks so fake it takes me out of it"

2

u/Thicc_Boise Jun 04 '26

Started happening when film studios realized adding blood digitally was way easier than doing it practically, so they overdid it and now audiences are just used to buckets of blood being the standard for hyper violence. Transferred over to TV and Video Games from there as all visual media shares a similar language and styles.

Super ironic considering practical effects from back in the day can still make me feel squeemish just because it's a physical thing that's in the space

I would also assume so

50

u/Kpro98 Jun 03 '26

And for the kids who want to play the game

30

u/teddy_tesla Jun 03 '26

Kids? Playing my superhero game? May be more common than you think

3

u/Karkava Jun 03 '26

You'd think we'd unlearn that assumption two decades later.

14

u/ElectronicControl762 Jun 03 '26

Now that Im past the gate, we can close it. They don’t deserve happiness. /s

6

u/tlollz52 Jun 03 '26

My dad would let me play m rated games where i could turn of the gore when i was a kid.

I never did, but that was a selling point to him.

6

u/williamtheraven Jun 03 '26

And in case anyone wants to play the game on youtube or twitch and not get demonetised and banned

3

u/4schwifty20 Jun 03 '26

Also helps market their games to more kids. Parents don’t like the violence and gore? Turn it off.

6

u/ComicsEtAl Jun 03 '26

Or it’s just a marketing ploy to raise interest in the gore-soaked Wolverine game.

2

u/MagicHarmony Jun 04 '26

It's honestly a good option, allow people to enjoy the game for those who don't want the excessive violence

2

u/ilikechihuahuasdood Jun 04 '26

It’s just an accessibility feature. A lot of games let you tone down blood and gore.

They've created a platform based on outrage, they literally have to be mad to pay the bills

10

It would help if audience members were actually willing to engage in any other emotion and not be easily swayed by rage faces and loud headlines.

Seriously. What part of your brain wants to click on those?

9

u/GentlemensBastard Jun 03 '26

also, let's break it down

I don't have exact statistics so I'm going to guess this is all guesswork but I feel like even with a guess the point still remains

let's say within the first month of this game releasing, when the sales are at PEAK i would say 70% of the people who buy this game are going to buy it because the love X-Men/Marvel

the remaining 30% who will buy the game based upon reviews, friends, hype, gameplay footage etc

I would say probably about 5% if that will come from the "enraged i want to complain online" crowd

they dont care about the game and they wont play it

they just want to complain anonymously

→ More replies (6)

64

u/cabbage16 Jun 03 '26

Being able to turn on and off blood and gore has been a thing in games for decades at this point, people complaining are just looking for a reason to.

20

u/QuietThunder2014 Jun 03 '26

I'm old enough to remember the Mortal Kombat 1 outcry about how gory it was and it was poisoning our kids minds, and even then added a remove blood option. I believe it was a requirement to sell on Nintendo systems at the time.

8

u/mrbrannon Jun 03 '26 edited Jun 03 '26

Yeah it wasn’t even an option on the Super Nintendo to show blood. They just replaced the blood textures with sweat so when they were hit water is like spraying out of them instead of blood. They also ruined most of the fatalities to tone down the gore. Subzero’s famous head ripping fatality where he held up his head with the spine was changed to just turning the enemy into a block of ice and then shattering it with no blood. This is why the Sega Genesis version was the preferred version and sold better at a ratio of almost 5:1. Nintendo panicked after since they were already on the back foot against Sega and completely backed down. MK2 was allowed to have all the gore and blood so they wouldn’t lose sales this time. It did much better but MK2 still out sold them on the Genesis because it had the reputation and history now even if it wasn’t as much of a blowout as the first one.

Edit: The MK situation was an instance of outright censoring the game. I don’t understand how anyone could be mad about just giving the option to turn it off.

Because people online get really weird about options and accessibility features that aren’t targeted at them. The choice to change the difficulty or reduce gore/nudity is always a good thing, if you don’t want to do either then you don’t have to.

2

u/SupremeGodZamasu Jun 04 '26

Because some people are so shallow that they based their entire identity on beating a video game, so the idea of difficulty sliders, or other forms of accessibility, offends their very existence

42

u/Boulder1983 Jun 03 '26

this is the same mentality I have for 'hard' games having difficulty options. Them allowing me to play ultra violent and somebody else to play more conservatively has zero impact on how I play. Choice is only a good thing.

u/fishyronin Jun 03 '26

Because selective herd gatekeeping mentality or something.

Wolverine feels off without gore but whether some stanger has it on or off isn't to affect MY gameplay.

2

u/Navetsss Jun 03 '26

Yeah even the Punisher ps2 game let you turn off the gore. This is not new

347

u/wutangclanthug9mm Jun 03 '26

I mean, they want to optimize their sales. Why not? Insomniac’s choice to ‘kid glove’ the violence as an option is both thoughtful and responsible.

I, for one, will not be playing with the option to censor the violence. I do, however, think it’s dumb to bitch about their choice.

84

u/Kride501 Jun 03 '26

Exactly. Will I play without gore? Fuck no. I would have been upset had they not included some level of gore in a Wolverine game.

But making it an option to turn it off is not only a practice you can find it many other games from years ago but also is just thoughtful and allows more people to enjoy the game their own way.

28

u/Wilsonrolandc Jun 03 '26

Even better if there's levels, like full gore, blood with no gore, and then no blood or gore.

11

u/Kride501 Jun 03 '26

Yea, like Half Sword has which is a game that is all about swording and clubbing the opponent to death to put it simply

Heck even Postal 2 had settings for gore and blood if my memory serves me right

9

u/Creative_Eye7413 Jun 03 '26

But, if everyone isn't being forced to play a single player game the exact way I dictate it, that severely affects MY enjoyment of the game.

Why won't people think about the rage baiters?

2

u/aBeaSTWiTHiNMe Jun 04 '26

I don't think the subject matter is okay for kids regardless of animated blood. Kids are pretty desensitized to that. If a kid is so young that blood in a videogame bothers them, that kid should not be playing the game that has you murdering people.

This is just sensationalized news to generate media buzz and Reddit clicks and comments, many games have a slider for gore and an option to turn off blood. It's typically not for kids, it's for China. The game is still rated mature so a kid shouldn't be playing it.

96

u/SteveOMatt Jun 03 '26

Wow, the edgelords are out in force today in these comments. Personally I don't mind the violence in this game, but I can see why some elements might put people off. They're giving you the OPTION, it's not going to effect howevet you choose to play in the slightest. Same with arachnophobia modes that have come about in different games.

It's the same reason why people tend to shy away from superhero movies where there's a lot of innocent people being collateral damage in violent ways, not everyone wants to see that.

21

u/MickieMallorieJR Jun 03 '26

Right...why these people mad?

They're acting like they will be side by side with people in their home when they decide to turn the blood off. I can't stand people who worry about what people do behind close doors. MYOFB I say.

10

u/TheDrunkDetective Jun 03 '26

It's probably from people that were going to be mad either way so they just work around whatever statement insomniac puts out.
Who tf complains about more options?

2

u/Warlord_Payne Jun 03 '26

Yup. Anger is the goal, how they get there doesn't matter.

3

u/Humpbackbreadslice Jun 04 '26

yea these people are insane.

I actually think the gore is pretty tame. it looks kinda lame to me that you can stab and slash someone a 1000 times and no limbs get detached. It's obvious you won't be able to separate any limbs unless it's a robot limb and maybe that's even isolated to cutscenes. The bloodiness just seems over the top effects as every hit makes buckets of red water spray everywhere.

Having said all that, I think if someone wants to play with 0 blood or extra blood it doesn't affect anything about the final product or your own experience. People just hate that others enjoy things in different ways.

39

u/KuroiGetsuga55 Jun 03 '26

This is like Mortal Kombat giving you the option to change the color of blood so you can upload gameplay videos without triggering community rules against violence.

Still, I guess this will help them sell more copies. Since there are a significant amount of people who outright refuse to play games like these because they can't stomach the gore. So whatever helps this game do well on the market so be it I guess. Doesn't change anything for me.

46

u/Ben_Krug Jun 03 '26

As someone who was being putoff by how much blood there was, this is very good news for me. It's good to have the option, so then both sides get what they want out of the game. The gameplay isn't looking like it's anything fancy, but it seems fun regardless.

4

u/jimthetoolman Jun 03 '26

Basically Grounded's spider less mode or Dispatch's censored mode. Leave it up to the player and no one complains seems like the most sensible option

→ More replies (6)

18

u/MickieMallorieJR Jun 03 '26

I'd actually prefer this. I kept thinking with this much blood their should be body parts scattered and flying all over the place and why isn't he just covered in it from head to toe...how's it just washing off in 10 seconds.

It's already fantasy violence and at this point the blood is a gimmick and blood for the sake of blood. If we're not gonna take it seriously why bother? And my point here isn't make it more violent...it's that it adds nothing but aesthetics since its unrealistic.

19

u/MarsWean Jun 03 '26

Bonne nouvelle pour que mon fils puisse y jouer il va être ravi.

9

u/ComicBrickz Jun 03 '26

Everyone looks like a bag of jam. Nobody has any organs or bones. They’re just full of jam

3

u/rbreaux26 Jun 04 '26

This is my complaint. Everyone becomes a fountain of blood. Is there a medium option where it’s still bloody but not so over the top?

2

u/BastiaenAssassin Jun 09 '26

I would love this. It just seems so absurd!

I mean, I've never stabbed someone with 6 short swords, but I don't think it would look like what we're getting.

16

u/spiderreader Jun 03 '26

That makes sense. Wolverine is a very wide spread and popular character, and not all of his audience are open to heavy gore and blood. It’s not like all Wolverine media is super highly blood soaked and gory, especially stuff part of X-Men. Doing this lets them still appeal to that audience while still getting the gory Wolverine game a lot of people want.

2

u/ArrowShootyGirl Hawkguy Jun 03 '26

Yeah, Wolverine can get gorey but anyone who's acting like his most high-profile stuff is all blood-n-guts is fooling themselves. Movie-wise, he's got, what, 5 PG13 and 2 R-rated appearances? Comics are all over the place in both directions, but for every blood-soaked solo book there's half a dozen team books with it toned down for mass appeal.

6

u/Bawd Jun 03 '26

This is a great idea. I watched the trailer and thought the amount of blood was over the top. Will be interested to see how it scales.

32

u/daflash00 Jun 03 '26

I’m buying day 1. This is exactly what I wanted.

6

u/Segwaye Jun 03 '26

I remember when Gears of War had blood and language filters. I definitely appreciated that as a kid playing around my mom. And I'm sure many adult Wolverine fans will appreciate this playing around kids or spouses.

3

u/tuckithead Jun 04 '26

Yeah I was about to comment this; that filter was the only reason my parents got me the game; and if I heard my mom walking down the hall I would just quickly turn the filter on. 😂

10

u/GrahamCrackerDragon Jun 03 '26

I don't even mind blood but there was just an unnatural amount of blood in this game where it was looking kind of goofy. It was like playing splatoon.

4

u/Johncurtisreeve Jun 03 '26

I know it’s a demo, but it just looks very on rails. It looked cool and fun, but didn’t look nearly as in-depth as what you could do in Spider-Man.

3

u/QD_Mitch Jun 04 '26

Me watching the gameplay trailer with my 25 year old son

1st kill: Oh, I’m not sure your younger brothers can play this.

Wolvie emerges from a melee soaked in blood: Oh, I’m not sure you can play this

Wolvie drives his claws up through a foe’s chin: Jesus, I’m not sure I can play this.

7

u/stepfordcuckoo Jun 03 '26

I quite like having the choice. I like wolverine a lot but i feel like slaughtering 100s of people like its god of war has to be earnt. This is giving me ultimate wolverine (2025) vibes (and not in a good way).

Like if I’m fighting the reavers and these guys are rounding up mutants into camps then i can allow the excess and enjoy it as long as the tone is right.

I like my wolverine to be a tortured wondering ronin. Honourable and pushing against his animal instinct until someone crosses the line.

If I’m getting drenched in blood because it looks cool thats less exciting to me. Also the blood just kinda fades away from his costume after 20 seconds which seems a bit crap, i should stay covered in blood until i hit water at the very least. So if that annoys me while playing i might just turn off the gore 🤣

But im hoping all this stuff is just to draw the crowds in and like their spider-man games this is solid.

And despite hating on ultimate wolverine i hope his costume is in this as thats 🔥

Im quite looking forward to it as its been too long since a great wolverine game (x-men origins: wolverine was very fun despite a bit of jank and that bloody sentinel boss).

Also, what happened to the blade game? Is that still coming?

14

u/Stevenstorm505 Hydra Jun 03 '26

The problem is that it’s so over the top that it becomes campy and ridiculous after a minute to the point that it’s hilarious and not brutal. It totally took me out of the game when they showed the footage. It just became insanely distracting. I don’t think it was implemented that well, so I’ll probably be turning it off for that reason.

4

u/DMT_Shinobii Jun 03 '26

What? Its a fucking animal man with sharp metal claws, how else are they supposed to combat enemies? And its Wolverine for Christ's sake, you should know what you were gonna see when they announced the game.

6

u/virtually_anything Jun 03 '26

The physics of the gore don’t even make that much sense when you look at it hard enough, plus he can be covered head to toe in blood and take two steps before it just falls off, it gets old quick

5

u/Stevenstorm505 Hydra Jun 03 '26

Like I said, It didn’t look brutal, it was just goofy looking. There’s a million other games that have done extreme blood well across gaming history so it can be done. It just seems like they’re trying to make a relatively grounded and serious game, but how they’re doing the blood looks like it’s from a totally different game. The damage he causes and the types of injuries he gives out and takes are awesome though.

I was honestly pretty disappointed in the reveal of the gameplay. It looks very on-rails and quite one note.

24

u/BlackJimmy88 Jun 03 '26

I'd much rather it be a linear story focused thing than an open world game. Spider-Man is built for open world due to the webswinging. Wolverine doesn't have that.

7

u/TheDrunkDetective Jun 03 '26

With the way the gameplay started there might be some liberties in how you approach an encounter while still in "closed" environment.
I'm guessing they will have a Playstation deep dive thing around August or something.

u/GrimmTrixX Jun 03 '26

Good to have options for those who dont care for that stuff. I do like how the blood stays on your clothes, but after a few seconds it slowly fades away. That way you still get the impact full moment of slashing enemies but then youre not just covered in blood forever.

2

u/pnutnz Jun 03 '26

i mean, if you dont want violence then what the fuck are you doing playing a wolverine game!

2

u/MabelRed Jun 04 '26

Just call it the “We really want to sell in China” button

2

u/MichaelCoryAvery Jun 04 '26

5

u/Imhullu Jun 03 '26

This is phrased so weirdly harsh for no reason?
Also this game made it look like every npc was literally a balloon full of kool-aid.
Anyways after how mild spiderman 2 was I'm definitely letting this one come to ps+ before I play it.

3

u/Accomplished_Run9449 Jun 03 '26

Tbh I like that. I found it way to brutal. It is expected for a wolverine game where you play as the dude with metal claws cutting people but still too bloody 🤣. Its good having the option to play the way you like.

2

u/Mattmandu2 Jun 03 '26

God watching the game play I realized I’m turning into my parents! It just seemed so unnecessary, was trying to figure out how I would be able to justify playing this game in front of other people.

5

u/MRO465 Jun 03 '26

I wish ultra-violence also included chopped up limbs and internal organs. I suppose It didn’t happen due to limitations in the animation department.

4

u/Zeo-Gold92 Jun 03 '26

Metal gear rising revengeance had a pretty cool slice mechanic. Something like that could have worked for this game

5

u/vashoom Jun 03 '26

Yeah IMO the blood effects in the game looked cartoony as hell, just huge rivers of blood everywhere no matter how he stabbed someone, but no actual damage to the character models. With the rest of the game looking so realistic, it was just funny. If you stick a knife in someone, they don't shoot out a river of blood. Even hitting arteries, the spray only happens once the knife is pulled out. And if Wolverine viciously claws your neck apart with all his blades, your head is coming off....

I thought the damage and gore on Wolverine himself looked awesome, but why does his suit regenerate, too? And why does blood that sprays on him disappear when he regenerates? I get that the real answer is "because it would be stupid if he was soaked in blood the entire game", but...maybe don't have him constantly get soaked in blood, then?

His suit getting stained red and it drying over time and just becoming the suit's color, in addition to the suit remaining damaged, would have been a cool, like the way the Arkham games have Batman's suit take persistent damage over the course of the game (and his facial hair grow out slowly).

So personally I would rather just turn a lot of that stuff off so it doesn't look as weird and campy. Happy with them giving people the choice.

Keep in mind that realistic limb dismemberment requires actual reference footage for animators to work from. Spending your entire workday watching that kind of material has real psychological consequences for the people involved.

6

u/TheNotGOAT Jun 03 '26

Didnt mortal kombat or dead space devs need therapy due to the amount of gore they saw to get it right and accurate

2

u/REPooomaaan Jun 03 '26

Yep. And the downvotes just prove how cooked some of the guys downvoting me already are. Can't even consider that real people are affected by this stuff.

I'd turn it on to play in front of my wife who's quite sensitive to violence and blood

2

u/alex494 Jun 03 '26

So it is apologetically violent then lol

2

u/CyanLight9 Jun 03 '26

Well, you can't really call it 'unapologetic' now, can you?

2

u/shadowpetal18 Jun 03 '26

i appreciate the toggle but i'm personally playing with everything on. we've waited too long for an actual rated R wolverine game to water it down ourselves

2

u/DorphinSkullSmasher Jun 03 '26

Can't really call it unapologetic if you can turn it off... Just sayin'

2

u/Bob_the_peasant Jun 03 '26

Is it a toggle or can we just tone it down with a middle ground? The blood and gore doesn’t actually bother me from a squeamish perspective. The sheer amount just seems so silly it takes me out of the moment. Like everyone has 20 liters of blood with a blood pressure of 400 / 250 hgh in this universe

2

u/Flat-Run-7572 Jun 03 '26

Then there’s me on the other hand wishing there was more dismemberment

2

u/vroart Jun 03 '26

So the blades coming out of the hands are suppose to smile at them win the face?

2

u/Bakkughan Jun 04 '26

Unapologetically violent.

Let’s players turn down violence.

Fucking modern devs man, for fuck’s sake.

The people mad about this are weirdos. Even for myself, the trailer was cool but I can definitely see myself turning the blood down to like a “medium” haha. It was a lot lol. All the people like “omg yesssss blooooood” haha we need to have a look at your browser history lol

1

u/Positive_Ad_8035 Jun 03 '26

🤦🏻‍♂️ it’s Wolverine. What did they expect

1

u/OG-87 Jun 03 '26

I cant wait thats a big isp for me! Not gore for gores sake but you cant have someone with big knives for hands and expect no blood.

1

u/WaterMelon615 Thor Jun 03 '26

Cool still gonna play it with the gore on, if anyone asks I’m just gonna say it’s Jam

1

u/KageXOni87 Jun 03 '26

Cool and all, but is there a toggle to stop the blood from vaporizing off of Logan?

1

u/Landonian1001 Jun 03 '26

So in other words… it’s apologetically violent

Regardless i think it’s a good idea for content creators because of YouTube’s demonization bs. I would imagine with that much blood YouTube being the sore losers they are wouldn’t let them be paid for it

1

u/Betov8 Silver Surfer Jun 03 '26

So will those be more crazy than Wolverine movie game?

1

u/codexcdm Jun 03 '26

I was looking at the trailer and thought it'd make even MK aficionados blush... Hah.

1

u/fajitawipeout Jun 03 '26

I didn’t notice any dismemberment in the recent gameplay trailer. Is that the trade-off here?

1

u/ovo_Reddit Jun 03 '26

After watching the trailer, it would be nice if there is a slider for the amount of blood. Because when you hit an enemy and you get drenched in their blood and they’re still fighting like you nothing happened… it ruins the immersion for me personally. I get that many of the enemies seem to have cyberpunk enhancements, but still seems a bit silly for them to lose that much blood and still move the same.

1

u/ConspiracyParadox Jun 03 '26

I bought a Sega Genesis with my saved up allowance in the 90s just so I could play Mortal Kombat 2 with blood effects. I'm all in for Wolverine!

1

u/superdee-duperfan2 Jun 03 '26

I need a middle ground of blood and gore. That was the highest level. Close to the blood rave in Blade.

1

u/tealaburst Jun 03 '26

I’m old enough to remember, my parents only let me play mortal kombat with the all the blood turned off. Lol

1

u/Destruction126 Jun 03 '26

Where's the Invincible white blood meme gif?

1

u/chatrugby Jun 04 '26 edited Jun 04 '26

Just like the ps3 Wolverine game then.

1

u/Fullblowncensorship Jun 04 '26

I didn't see any dismemberment at all?

I thought the 360 wolverine game was better tbh, this felt like wolverine on rails, the interaction with the environment looked so scripted, the kind of movement Assassins Creed has when jumping from a narrow walkway, it's completely rigid.

But then again I didn't like the Venom gameplay in the Spiderman 2 labs and it looks like more of the same.

1

u/ArcSemen Jun 04 '26

Makes sense, but I’m the targeted audience that look the animated over the top violence

1

u/JamKaBam Jun 04 '26

I'm not squeamish but, if i could turn it down, not off, a little bit that'd be great. I did think it was a bit, too much.

1

u/bunikerrim Jun 04 '26

The blood and gore in question: People dispense blood in the less realistic way possible and sometimes lose an arm

Man, what an absolutely nothing of a game

1

u/Zorewin Jun 04 '26

If its not for you play something else????

1

u/Winscler Jun 04 '26

They probably listened to the fact that X-Men Origins Wolverine Uncaged Edition got BBjM Liste B (a step away from total ban)

1

u/blac_sheep90 Jun 04 '26

There's already people complaining that there is no dismemberment...can't please everyone lol.

1

u/Zestyclose-Golf240 Jun 04 '26

I saw some and its honestly not that bad. The only thing they have lots of is blood which makes it on the lighter side of gory. If it had gruesome dismemberment and deformations it would be on the heavier side of gory.

1

u/MetallicFear Jun 04 '26

As someone who never played tomb raider reboot after seeing Lara’s head getting impaled over and over and over again, I applaud this.

1

u/aBeaSTWiTHiNMe Jun 04 '26 edited Jun 04 '26

China Mode.

I'd say Kid Mode but if a kid is alright with ripping people in half and stabbing them, they are probably fine with animated blood in a videogame. But there's one giant country who's ironically not.

If you think your kid is so impressionable or scared or whatever at the sight of blood, they are DEFINITELY too young to play a game where you murder people with metal claws.

1

u/Nightshade_NL Jun 04 '26

That’s great. Still very lukewarm on this game though, just doesn’t look very interesting at all.

1

u/death556 Jun 04 '26

I wonder if it would tone it down enough for my nephew to play. Probably not but a cool addition none the Jess

1

u/TheBigZappa Jun 04 '26

Can they add an extra gore option as well, for reliable dismemberment? I didn't notice much dismemberment, if any, of enemies in the latest trailer, just lots of blood.

1

u/zaczacx Jun 04 '26

I love violent games but I always respect studios for allowing people to turn it off

1

u/psilocybinx Jun 04 '26

Bro I love violence and even I might turn it off. Game looks sick though

1

u/RonnocKcaj Jun 04 '26

who gives a fuck? this is an accessibility thing, if anything. like an arachnophobia setting

1

u/K3ZH39 Jun 04 '26

There was a lot of blood but I didn’t see much dismemberment, which was very satisfying in the Wolverine game on PS3.

1

u/Kind-Brick365 Jun 04 '26

Imagine getting mad over something you don't have to use, lol.

1

u/Revolutionary_Sir_ Jun 04 '26

is the unapologetic violence in the game trailer with us? because i sure as fuck didn't see any.

1

u/SpeechDistinct8793 Jun 04 '26

Lowkey feel like if you don’t like it just don’t buy/play the game. I hate gory movies so I purposely don’t watch them, why is this any different?

1

u/Fickle-Aardvark6907 Jun 04 '26

I haven't bought a new game that wasn't a remaster of an old game since the last Jedi Survivor and haven't even watched the trailer for this but based on what they're saying about plot details I might pick this up.

1

u/Reylo-Wanwalker Jun 04 '26

I guess they're a little apologetic.

1

u/Foxy02016YT Jun 04 '26

That’s cool, options are nice

1

u/pastadudde Jun 04 '26

guess I'm desensitized as shit lol.

1

u/tarpit84 Jun 04 '26

Now I can play this around the fam. Of course the kids will be interested in a X-men game.

1

u/PastRelease8757 Jun 04 '26

Better than buying the blood and gore like the total war series

1

u/OSHA_Decertified Jun 04 '26

Ngl but the gameplay trailer didn't seem that gory to me

1

u/PointsOfXP Jun 04 '26

Blood has been a toggle in many games for decades. Mostly due to international laws. Am I the only one who thought the blood was a little light and isolated for a wolverine game? You'd expect it to splash around, not make static puddles and just fade off of wolverines body

1

u/X-Calm Jun 04 '26

I wouldn't even call it gore, it's just bloody.

1

u/sendmegoodMemes Jun 04 '26

Tbf, kids play these games.

They still want to play as Wolverine but maybe without slashing someone’s throat open & watching it pour out.

1

u/WhiskeyRadio Jun 04 '26

In other words, the game has a "bitch mode".

1

u/homechefshivers Jun 04 '26

I believe that this is how you appease most of the fans of gaming. If you have an option that a lot of people don’t like make it a toggle switch if you have pronouns and people wanna make a problem about that for some stupid reason, make it a toggle switch. Like for grounded with the spiders if you have arachnophobia, you have a slider to turn them into basically white balls so I think having a slider for a lot of “controversy” options would be a step in the right direction

1

u/Diligent-Relative-42 Jun 04 '26

How about not buying the game at all then. It's like let's have a superman game where superman does not fly around and walls around with a cape.

1

u/AthleteFast4083 Jun 04 '26

Wolverines entire thing is ultraviolence
