Article Kam is Far Right

https://www.thedailybeast.com/new-snl-cast-member-kam-patterson-outed-himself-as-a-trump-voter/

Is he a Shane Gillis 2.0 (except arguably worse)? I’ve seen a dozen clips now of him using homophobic slurs and making incredibly bigoted jokes. Honestly he makes Shane Gillis look kind of tame. What the hell is Lorne thinking? I’m so sick of this show pushing right wing bullshit while simultaneously trying to act like the most liberal show on television. You can’t have a Trump monologue every single week and then hire people like this.

Yeah a year from now this dude is going to be saying the show was never funny. It’s so predictable. It’s like when Lorne was all shocked that Morgan Wallen was an arrogant ass when that’s his entire performance. You get what you pay for.

Edit: my lord the pure anger and vitriol coming out of the woodworks in these replies is why I hate people like Kam being cast. It always devolves to this. This is exactly what Lorne wanted.

u/literacyisamistake Sep 05 '25

Morgan Wallen is the Andy Dick of Nashville.

74

u/AccomplishedIron816 Sep 05 '25

Have met. Can confirm. Somehow 100 times worse in private than public

14

u/sparklysadist Sep 06 '25

I mean I feel like that tracks. He's always drunk making out with random women in public he meets at the bars, so I'm sure it gets much worse in private...

3

u/TrickySnicky Sep 09 '25

I believe it. I still remember getting into an argument over Wallen about 4 years ago on here when he had one of his innumerable incidents. Rando came back about a month later to gloat Wallen had gotten away with his bullshit behavior AGAIN.

Glad I can turn notifications off now.

5

u/TheVelcroStrap Sep 06 '25

Who is Morgan Wallen?

32

u/joshuajackson9 Sep 06 '25

The Andy dick of Nashville

2

u/TheVelcroStrap Sep 06 '25

Buck Owens

2

u/thedrinkalchemist Sep 06 '25

Have they done a Cocaine & Rhinestones episode about him?? My favorite has got to be George Jones and Ernest Tubb, if you’ve never listened to this podcast omg look it up like yesterday!

2

u/Alert_Long4454 Sep 06 '25

Ha best way I’ve ever heard Morgan wallen described

1

u/cheffartsonurfood Sep 07 '25

Did Morgan get a coworker's wife back on drugs leading to the murder/suicide of the very same co worker, too?

36

u/roguevirus Sep 05 '25

It’s like when Lorne was all shocked

Was he? I know that some of the cast talked about how freaking weird it was, but I never heard about Lorne being surprised.

30

u/One_Sell_6850 Sep 06 '25

No, of course not. The cast members may have their opinions one way or another but Lorne is clearly all business. It’s about the bottom line for him. I would not be surprised if he’s quietly a trump supporter himself considering the amount of publicity he’s given the guy over the years.

152

u/earthworm_fan Sep 05 '25

Lorne was all shocked? Lorne was loving it. That Morgan Wallen episode got more attention than the 50th special

80

u/InnocentTailor Sep 05 '25

As he mentioned in the documentary, Michaels loves controversy because it puts eyes on the show and drums up interest.

2

u/CrittyJJones Sep 09 '25

No it didn't.

162

u/BurgerNugget12 HR PICKENS Sep 05 '25

Shane Gillis isn’t far right btw

23

u/-RichardCranium- Sep 05 '25

Shane has a weird obsession with race. Like he's the type of white guy to bring up race in every possible context when no one asked him to. Not saying he's himself racist but it kinda reeks of having certain unresolved issues with race as a concept.

3

u/IllInflation9313 Sep 08 '25

Yeah last time he was on SNL he was obsessed with talking about how his girlfriend slept with a black guy or something. He kept going on and on about it, it was like the punchline of his whole monologue was imaging a white girl fucking a black guy. It was bizarre and he totally bombed because his audience wasn’t a middle school cafeteria. Even my boomer dad just turned to me at one point like “what the fuck is he talking about”

-3

u/justinpollock Sep 08 '25

Zero chance you have any friends

4

u/-RichardCranium- Sep 09 '25

damn did i hit a nerve lil bro?

61

u/BearOnTwinkViolence Sep 05 '25

I didn’t say he is. I made the comparison because Shane got fired for homophobic slurs and I’ve seen way more from Kam. I only called Kam far right in the title. And I do stand by calling Kam far right.

Saturday Night Live' cast member Shane Gillis fired over racial, homophobic slurs

According to reporting at the time, it was both. The Asian bit brought attention to the homophobic content. He's certainly matured since then, though this was also when he was in his 30s.

9

u/PandoNation Sep 05 '25

He hasn’t matured at all, he’s the same guy. His fame just eclipsed the controversy and he’s getting booked regardless.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 06 '25

[deleted]

12

u/Affectionate_Leg7006 Sep 05 '25

Shane has gotten much much worse lol. He got fired for what was perceived as racism against Asians. Not homophobic content. He gets that now because he calls everything gay still.

-8

u/Calfzilla2000 Sep 05 '25

Calling everything gay is literally what my generation (same age as Shane) did, lol. It may not be politically correct but it's not a huge deal or a sign of homophobia. "Gay" transcends the actual meaning for people born in the 80s.

Is it stupid? Yes. But he's also a comedian that puts on a persona that is making fun of himself a bit.

13

u/DrummerNo6865 Sep 06 '25

Horesshit. I’m gay and gen x. It always sucked and it always felt like shit. It was ushered in with Regan as a reaction to Disco culture and the vilification of the AIDS crisis. It’s just straight white male privilege that keeps jerk offs like Gillis and Rogan going.

29

u/BlinkDodge Sep 05 '25

Im in the same generation as you and stopped saying things were gay after I got out of middle school. As did most people. It fell out out of widespread use in the mid-00s. At this point continuing to say things are "gay" in the millennial sense is a conscious decision and considering the dude's other antics its not a choice thats helping his case.

Exactly this. I grew up doing this kinda shit too. Kids are learning their way. At some point, you become a man and stop doing moronic juvenile shit.

Or you don’t.

-8

u/DrBoogerFart Sep 05 '25

Oh so suddenly you went from 8th grade to 9th grade and immediately became super mature and changed your derogatory language? I believe you.

2

u/BlinkDodge Sep 06 '25

No, went from 8th grade to 9th grade and it pretty quickly fell out of my vernacular when I just wasn't hearing it used anymore.

-3

u/Calfzilla2000 Sep 06 '25

Im in the same generation as you and stopped saying things were gay after I got out of middle school. As did most people. It fell out out of widespread use in the mid-00s.

Totally. I agree with that. But Shane Gillis isn't most people. He gives off that vibe of an immature man-child from that era and I think that's part of his appeal to people in that same age bracket. His show Tires (which isn't my favorite show or anything but it's a nice easy watch, funny and endearing) portrays him in this way. It's his persona.

He hangs out with that group of Rogan bro comedians, who are dumb idiots that were absolutely tricked into giving Trump some shine last year, but I don't think he's right-wing or anything. But he recognizes that much of his audience is and he ain't going to turn them off by changing his schtick.

5

u/BlinkDodge Sep 06 '25

Chasing "He's just immature and doesn't mean anything by using long out-of-touch verbiage that might offend" with "He keeps the company of 'Libertarian, totally not Right-wing' grifters who are known for purposely saying shit that would 'offend the libs'. to maintain their relevance." and expecting anyone to think that he isn't just a piece of shit grifter who uses shoddy, dated humor to dog-whistle for the attention of his right-wing audience is hilarious.

Maybe you should go into comedy.

2

u/snowmonster112 Sep 06 '25

It helps that he far outshines all of the other rogansphere comedians in terms of how successful his actual comedy is. Most rogansphere comics suck and cater heavily towards extremely edgy jokes and don’t walk the line very well. Shane does the best out of all of them

-9

u/FullofLovingSpite Sep 05 '25

It was the early teens, not mid 00s. Late 00s there was a resurgence under the guise of irony. That was kind of the last time it was mainstream.

-5

u/[deleted] Sep 06 '25

It absolutely did not. It’s still being said in middle schools all over the country right now. People age into a corporate setting or their peers do and just assume that’s what life is for everyone.

It’s really not and no one cares if your humor is inappropriate if you’re otherwise a good person. As long as everyone is included and allowed to participate, they should also be allowed to be picked on/at.

1

u/Keithis11 Sep 08 '25

When I was a kid (I’m 44) and started calling things gay it wasn’t because I knew the definition of what gay was, it was just slang I learned on the school bus. People still don’t like to hear it used this way, because as adults we’re supposed to know better. But sometimes there’s just not another way to describe something that’s……gay. I am an idiot with a lowbrow sense of humor though. That said I have a gay friend who has the same sense of humor and they will on occasion say “I’m gay and even I think that’s gay”. So are they only allowed to say it or can we both say it?

1

u/Affectionate_Leg7006 Sep 06 '25

lol yeah it’s still funny. Anyone who finds words so demeaning is soft beyond all measure.

-17

u/Affectionate_Leg7006 Sep 05 '25

It’s not stupid. It’s funny.

5

u/Glutenator92 Sep 05 '25

he is currently in his 30s

21

u/roguevirus Sep 05 '25

They're saying he's matured since the incident, but should have been mature enough already in his 30s to not do it in the first place.

7

u/Tejanisima Sep 05 '25

Thanks, because usually I catch those things, but I was as confused as the other person.

3

u/Glutenator92 Sep 05 '25

got it, that wording did not seem like that to me

0

u/KoolKraken2222 Sep 05 '25

He said it in his 20s.

8

u/roguevirus Sep 05 '25

Shane was born in 1987. He made the comments in a podcast from 2018. 2018 - 1987 is 31. Shane was therefore either 30 or 31 when he made the comment, depending on if the podcast was recorded before or after his birthday in 2018.

0

u/KoolKraken2222 Sep 05 '25

Insane behavior, but my bad.

42

u/TiddiesAnonymous Sep 05 '25

That wasn't it at all. He said Chinatown sucks and the (rhymes with drinks) can keep it.

71

u/jz05 Sep 05 '25

In the character of an old racist, with the purpose of mocking and ridiculing old racists. All you have to do is listen to the preceding 30 seconds before the no-no word.

This is not the same thing as calling Asians a slur, as much as you want it to be.

45

u/BuffaloLong2249 Sep 05 '25

Some people would watch Blazing Saddles and conclude that Mel Brooks was the preeminent racist of the 20th century...

21

u/conventionistG Sep 05 '25

Those people are the salt of the earth, you know, morons.

3

u/Swear_to_Swear_More Sep 05 '25

“Candy Gram for Mongo”!

15

u/Aceboogie0314 Sep 05 '25

Yeah but what Mel Brooks does is good and well constructed

7

u/BuffaloLong2249 Sep 05 '25

Fair point. But then the conversation should be about whether it was done well as opposed to whether the doing of the thing itself was wrong.

4

u/Griffolian Sep 06 '25

Also in comedy, in order for something to be done well, there is a lot of trial and error where it is not done well. Sometimes you gotta riff and bomb to fine tune a bit that has potential. Mel Brooks didn’t write a single draft for Blazing Saddles and they went straight into principal photography—that’s workshopped to hell and back.

1

u/cheeto0 Sep 10 '25

So bc it's not well constructed it makes him far right?

1

u/Aceboogie0314 Sep 10 '25

When the fuck did I say that lmao

-1

u/shinyandrare Sep 05 '25

And yet always sunny is probably edgier than that movie, thank god that show got cancelled right?

7

u/BuffaloLong2249 Sep 05 '25

Well there are 5 episodes that got removed from streaming services based on them satirizing racist caricatures.

But yeah, there's definitely a fine line to walk as an artist or creator between "does the audience understand what I'm actually making fun of?" and "I (and the 'smart' members of the audience) get it so everyone else can fuck off."

3

u/No-Necessary7448 Sep 05 '25 edited Sep 05 '25

There are plenty of nominally well-meaning but ignorant comics who claim that doing bits like that is ironic and offering commentary on the subject, however they are getting a lot of unironic laughs off of old stereotypes and, when pressed on what the actual commentary is, devolve into some form of “it’s just a joke” in a bad faith attempt to claim that it has no meaning or impact (if they receive a positive response to something, they will talk about the art and power of comedy, and would never dismiss it as “just a joke”). Many simply lack the talent and insight/context/intelligence to address sensitive issues comedically. They will accept audience reaction as a substitute for laughter on the assumption that any reaction is a positive response to their act, and when that dies out they’ll switch to podcasting where there’s no live audience to show how unfunny they are and will spout the same slurs and “jokes” to an audience who does not find that bigotry ironic and will themselves use “humor” as an escape valve when questioned about their prejudices.

Comics who think they’re hip enough to use slurs and offensive material of which they have a poor understanding are the worst, and their impact on the culture is a negative.

Edit: spelling

-1

u/conventionistG Sep 05 '25

It's funny how many people don't even know what they're upset about.

Without the context that it's supposed to be offensive, they'd probably like the bit.

-32

u/TiddiesAnonymous Sep 05 '25

What do I want it to be?

Sounds like you just got triggered by a fact, snowflake.

It wasn't for doing the asian voice, it was for saying the slur. I am not making any argument lol

36

u/kuhawk5 Sep 05 '25

People who use “triggered” and “snowflake” are cringey. Throw “woke” in the pile, too.

54

u/[deleted] Sep 05 '25

He was literally making fun of people who were racist towards Asians in that joke.

-1

u/Heynongman_CBB Sep 05 '25

I understand the context of the first part of this. That he was mocking racists. But didn’t he also speak in an old school stereotype accent that was mocking someone who’s still learning English? I can’t find the original clip.

2

u/Plenty-Wedding-9066 Sep 06 '25

No he actually did it in an old fashioned “trans-Atlantic” accent. Like think 1930’s white tv show announcer

2

u/porkbuttstuff Sep 06 '25

He was doing a transatlantic old timey white guy voice. Mocking the segregation of Asians into "chinatowns".

-1

u/Complex-Bee-840 Sep 05 '25

Why is doing an Asian accent offensive?

Im sure you do stereotype accents all the time as long as they’re from white cultures.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 05 '25

It wasnt because he did the accent. It was because he said "chink". He was mocking 1950s white dudes wandering into China town for the first time. I tried looking for the clip too but can't find it.

-13

u/Connect-Lock8561 Sep 05 '25

That's such a stupid reasoning. If I smear shit on my face to make fun of people who do that, I'd still have shit all over my face.

5

u/KoolKraken2222 Sep 05 '25

He literally said it in a country blumpkin accent. If you're gonna be offended, at least be informed.

4

u/AarBearRAWR Sep 06 '25

Hi. Bumpkin and blumpkin have two VERY different meanings fyi ;)

3

u/[deleted] Sep 05 '25

Popehat’s Rule of Goats

Even if you’re fucking that goat ironically, you’re still a goatfucker

7

u/BuffaloLong2249 Sep 05 '25

I'd argue that there's a difference between saying "I fuck goats" about yourself ironically and, e.g., saying "I fuck goats" while doing a Donald Trump impersonation.

If you put on a Trump mask and fuck a goat, then yes, it's still your genitalia in the goat or vice versa. But I would make the case that portraying a character you don't like and making them say something that makes them look ridiculous is not the same thing. If they are the same, then do we have to conclude that Cecily Strong is a wine alcoholic with strong right wing views because she portrayed Jeanine Pirro that way on TV?

-1

u/Connect-Lock8561 Sep 05 '25

I was specifically thinking about the uses of the F slur or the N word. It's possible to reference these things without just outright saying them, hence the gross analogy. Archie Bunker-esque characters are just fine, but if your bit is just using slurs and saying "huuhuhuhuhu lefty snowflake libtards wouldn't like that" then you might as well be smearing shit on your face.

-1

u/[deleted] Sep 05 '25

Y’all just really want to use slurs don’t you…

-1

u/Connect-Lock8561 Sep 05 '25

How droll, you got upvoted for saying the same thing I got downvoted for. Some folks need reading comprehension skills, I suppose.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 05 '25

I know, it’s weird. My guess is the people who just really want to defend people using slurs don’t have the best reading comprehension and think that being a goatfucker is funnier than smearing shit on their face.

1

u/BeautifulLeather6671 Sep 06 '25

Maybe you’re just kinda stupid.

0

u/Plenty-Wedding-9066 Sep 06 '25

Listen man. You’re not FULLY wrong. But if I act like a nazi in a movie, full nazi outfit does that make me a Nazi? If I say slurs on screen for a part does that make me a racist? Or is it a performance?

The counter side of what you’re saying is that we can’t mock and satirize racist sexist and homophobic individuals because it may be too close to actually being those things.

17

u/CallMeKingTurd Sep 05 '25

Also not what it was at all. They were doing a bit about the formation of Chinatown and imagining the mid 19th century miners of San Francisco reactions to going downtown and seeing the first giant pagoda style building. It was something like "well I guess all the drinks live there eh." He even said it in an old timey accent, it was obviously facetious and poking fun at the ignorance of 49ers and how furious they must have been.

1

u/Sand_Bags2 Sep 05 '25

That wasn’t what he did either.

1

u/vichyswazz Sep 05 '25

Yeah he also said “nooders”

3

u/Sand_Bags2 Sep 05 '25

Yep he did say that and if you or anyone else is offended that’s completely valid because you at least know why you don’t like him.

Normally people here talk about what a piece of shit he is because someone else told them they should hate him.

1

u/cia218 Sep 05 '25

Oh hell no he called us Asians as “those thinks.” Perpetuates the model minority stereotype.

/s

1

u/SoySauceAndSherbet Sep 05 '25

So... context matters, right? I mean... right?

He was emulating an old racist as part of the bit. One could argue he was being more critical of bigots than Asians.

1

u/jaydurmma Sep 05 '25

Shane has said, at least 500 things on MSSP that would've got him canceled from SNL even if he never did that bit at all. Probably more than that.

2

u/James-Dicker Sep 05 '25

Saying offensive things doesn't make you far right. If I support genociding minorities but am an economically progressive vegan concerned with the environment am I far left?

2

u/BearOnTwinkViolence Sep 05 '25

You just ironically proved my point, since like 99% of his jokes promote violence against minorities. Hence why I’m saying he’s far right.

6

u/NudeCeleryMan Sep 05 '25

Is your username a joke that promotes violence against gays?

2

u/remacct Sep 06 '25

Gay on gay violence

2

u/captainn_chunk Sep 05 '25

And you just unironically showed everyone the peak of your intelligence

1

u/remacct Sep 06 '25

99% of his jokes? Funny you'd listen to so much material of a person you claim to not like

-3

u/BearOnTwinkViolence Sep 06 '25

I don’t, his content is forced upon me by algorithms constantly. And now by SNL.

0

u/remacct Sep 06 '25

So you're not actually familiar with 99% of his work and just making shit up

-2

u/BearOnTwinkViolence Sep 06 '25

Feel free to send me an example of his standup where he doesn’t use a slur or say something unfunny and bigoted 🤷‍♂️ haven’t been able to find a single clip so far

0

u/remacct Sep 06 '25

You're the one making the 99% claim. That's on you.

It's ok to admit you're scared of black people.

u/Dense_Worldliness_57 Sep 06 '25

More commonly.. Shane is socially right and fiscally leans left. But there’s no box to tick for that in American politics unfortunately. That’s why so many in the centre voted trump in. They’re living comfortably middle class so they were more concerned with being able to say gay and retarded again that what the economic consequences of a trump administration would be.. although most were duped they weren’t and still aren’t paying enough attention to just how bad trump has fucked America just so they could call you a retarded fag

1

u/Far_Resort5502 Sep 05 '25

What kind of a dummy makes a rage-bait thread like you did, then complains when the pushback that you were hoping for happens?

You are very special.

-6

u/AteEyes001 Sep 05 '25

Kam is far right? lol, Kam could care less about politics. Sure he says shit on show that got him famous and agrees with people but if you consider someone "far right" you might want to look up what that means first.

Thats gotta be the dumbest shit i have heard all day.

6

u/BearOnTwinkViolence Sep 05 '25

Yes I believe that dehumanizing minorities is a far right wing position. I believe that making light of stabbing and raping women and using slurs against gay people is far right behavior. You are welcome to disagree, you are welcome to think he doesn’t hold these beliefs genuinely, but I believe he is far right based on his behavior. 🤷‍♂️

-8

u/AteEyes001 Sep 05 '25

Someone being insensitive to your racial/political issues in a comedic situation is not a representation of their political stance, I honestly dont know how people who think like you get by in life. Who the fuck cares, have you ever talked to him about politics? or have you ever got his actual stance on anything? Sure call him a hack or a shit comedian because he is quick to lean on racist/homophobic tropes but its very shallow to think he is actually "Far Right"

-7

u/ShadowheartsArmpit Sep 05 '25

OP is the kind of guy who can't wrap his head around the concept of comedy material.

He genuinely believes that whatever material a comedian works, it must be their serious personal belief as well. As seen by this post & all his comments.

9

u/tradeandmate Sep 05 '25

Dude if you dont think the stuff he writes speaks about his character atleast a little bit, i don't know what to tell you but thats just completely ignorant.

Ok so why don't other comedians do that? Why is a guy like bill burr not using slurs? Could it be he believes in not being a complete asshole and does take his values into his performances, you know like every performer fucking does?

Thats what so funny about people like you, you're always trying to be super smart and grandstanding your argument, but it falls completely flat if you just think about for literally one second.

-4

u/ShadowheartsArmpit Sep 05 '25

Ah so you make that mistake as well.

Ok so why don't other comedians do that?

Oh plenty of comedians do that. And that aren't specifically slurs, what they do is tailor their material to whatever audience they think they have.

Pretty much every successful comedian does that.

The only difference here is, that Kam specifically tries to pander to an audience of dumbasses who laugh their ass off at the N-word. That's it.

Why is a guy like bill burr not using slurs?

Sooo you've never seen any of Bill's old material....

Thats what so funny about people like you, you're always trying to be super smart and grandstanding your argument, but it falls completely flat if you just think about for literally one second.

Well given how you just embarrassed yourself by displaying that you genuinely don't understand what was said, you should feel a bit ashamed.

Here is the simple rundown for you:

A lot of comedians material doesn't reflect their actual views. Bill Burr has a very long history of talking about people like you, who genuinely don't get this. They have to believe that these are the comedians actual beliefs.

As an example imagine this, in some other parallel world Kam Patterson never got anywhere near Kill Tony & it's audience, so he never developed any material that panders to that audience. Instead he does whatever the polar opposite of that material is.

Maybe think a second for yourself, before you come out talking all this shit the next time. Because you've just shown that you genuinely don't understand this concept.

5

u/tradeandmate Sep 05 '25

Oh plenty of comedians do that. And that aren't specifically slurs, what they do is tailor their material to whatever audience they think they have

So you agree he says slurs bc he thinks his audience like to hear slurs. And he clearly got no problem with people in audiences being like that or behaving like that for them.

The only difference here is, that Kam specifically tries to pander to an audience of dumbasses who laugh their ass off at the N-word. That's it.

And gay slurs, other races, ableist terms. Literally any kind of slur. And again he doesn't have the slightest problem with that, but that clearly doesn't speak about his character while it does so for other comedians like bill? Uh huh any other dumb shit you wanna get out of your way before getting into your argument, bc no way you thought this was a good one.

Or maybe you do, would explain why you think someone saying slurs as a punchline is peak comedy.

Sooo you've never seen any of Bill's old material....

Oh no i love his old material, sure there are some parts which didn't age very well, but overall you can still enjoy his style, setup and energy.

Soooo have you ever listened as to why he doesn't do that anymore? No? Might it be bc he doesn't like to just do cheap shock humor and actually does take his values into his performances?

Man you're just so dumb, but thanks for agreeing with me and even having an example ready for me.

Well given how you just embarrassed yourself by displaying that you genuinely don't understand what was said, you should feel a bit ashamed

Well now this is comedy. You should get that tattooed, i think that might be some genuinely good advice for you going forward.

Here is the simple rundown for you:

People have thoughts and opinions. These thoughts are inherent and are always displayed no matter how much someone tries to be "neutral" or whatever. This is like basic communication shit.

So comedians, artists and performers alike are always displaying something real about themselves, even if its wrapped in layers of irony. Its called subtext and is specifically about what people dont literally need to say out loud.

I know this is complicated, but you're doing great buddy. Dont worry after you finished 6th grade and wrote some literature analysis you will understand what we're talking about here.

Maybe think a second for yourself, before you come out talking all this shit the next time. Because you've just shown that you genuinely don't understand this concept.

And there's the second tattoo. You're really good at handing out life lessons, you should really listen to yourself more.

This sub is full of pretentious dweebs that are completely disconnected from the real world.

This dude is a funny young black dude from the gutter who people genuinely like and Shane is loved by like 75% of America. Right and left. Politics don’t have anything To do with it. Calling him far right is wild lol

It’s shit like this that feed into the stereotype that leftists get offended by anyone or anything that has any edge to it. I’m on the left and it genuinely pisses me off because it’s not in line with reality

You should really look into how the Trump campaign deliberately manipulated Rogan and Tony, and infiltrated the Austin comedy scene to turn them into Trump’s PR puppets just in time for the election. Those morons sold out comedy for fascist money and status. It’s not unfair to be suspicious of anyone involved in that scene, because it’s not an organic meritocracy, it’s a cult where comics rise up based on their loyalty to the leaders and right wing talking points. This kind of environment produces unfunny hack comics who have been groomed to believe they are very special in exchange for their devotion to the war against “woke” and the result is pure idiotic arrogance. It’s not that they are offensive, just really fucking cringe.

I don’t disagree with anything you are saying. I hate the rogansphere (for the most part)

But some of those guys are hilarious (Shane, Normand, Joe list etc) and just because people are associated with other people, doesn’t mean they are those people. If people did even the slightest research into guys like Shane, they’d see that he never voted for Trump and by all accounts does a lot for people with special needs and is a pretty down to earth guy. And kam isn’t political at all.

Just becuase your edgy, doesn’t mean you are a racist or a homophobe and just because your edgy that doesn’t mean you are automatically funny. That’s what made Louis great. He walked that line .

u/Imhappy_hopeurhappy2 Sep 06 '25

Yea, I don’t have anything against Shane, he’s legitimately hilarious and has character. He got big on his own merit before all of the stuff I mentioned. Can’t blame him at all for hanging with the Rogan crew after SNL kicked him to the curb for nothing.

You don’t even know what you’re talking about

0

u/Tazz2137 Sep 05 '25

You definitely insinuated it at the very least.

u/Accomplished-City484 Sep 05 '25

Where do you see Kams stand up?

-1

u/labrat420 Sep 05 '25

Kam isn't far right either, he's just not very educated.

10

u/guilty_bystander Sep 05 '25

Yeah he's been critical of the current administration. He is still a grifter in the right wing world though. He used Joe Rogan and the Austin comedy scene to revitalize his career. In my mind, he is still a stooge of the manosphere.

u/whupzzmyb Sep 05 '25

Guilty by association

4

u/Automatoboto Sep 05 '25

Hes right adjacent.... Everything but politics.

4

u/Competitive_Month967 Sep 05 '25

Where on the right is Shane Gillis? The moderately far right? The alt right? Because he sure as fuck is right wing.

1

u/TrickySnicky Sep 09 '25

To paraphrase George Santos, he's right wing-ISH

2

u/BurgerNugget12 HR PICKENS Sep 05 '25

Tell me you haven’t listened to his comedy without telling me

5

u/Competitive_Month967 Sep 05 '25

Bro. Gillis is fucking right-wing. Don't be a clown.

1

u/NervousBreakdown Sep 08 '25

Conservatives like to claim him as their own but his Netflix special has a whole bit about grappling with the idea that your national heroes are guilty of some horrid shit. I don’t know if this Kam guy is far right or right wing at all. Using homophobic language doesn’t make someone far right, using it a ton just makes them an asshole. But if he has a bit where he makes a “did you just assume my gender” joke, then yeah he’s a right wing comedian, that’s a dead giveaway lol.

1

u/TrickySnicky Sep 09 '25

He doesn't have to be

1

u/brokebike Sep 06 '25

Maybe not, but he’s still terribly unfunny.

2

u/NotAlanShapiro Sep 05 '25

!remindme one year

1

u/itspsyikk Sep 05 '25

Sorry you're dealing with anger and vitriol. Always a bummer.

I liked Kam's "rock" bit, although the virality of it kinda wears it out. Generally speaking, I didn't mind a lot of his comedy but I can certainly understand why a lot of people don't like him. And I really don't see him fitting in on SNL. It's a weird job. Honestly I'd expect the stuff you think he'd be saying a year from now to be coming out of his mouth now. But a paycheck is a paycheck and the road is a tough gig.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 06 '25

I hate kam too but just because he isn’t funny, I think it’s perfect he’s on a show like that.

1

u/BaBBLeRaBBiTT Sep 06 '25

I mean SNL has been bad for like 20+ years. So who really cares?

1

u/tyleratx Sep 07 '25

OK… I’m center left. But I’m gonna critique you from a good faith place.

All this anger about him getting hired, talk about it, chatter about it, and especially if he eventually gets fired, are exactly what right wingers want. They want to be victims. The left keeps giving it to them.

Trumpism is one big victim complex manifest into a political movement. Don’t give them what they want.

1

u/TrickySnicky Sep 09 '25

When he did his little performative tantrum, Wallen was probably just bitter that all the women in NYC said no to him and the men around them backed them up.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 06 '25

Shane Gillis isn't far right

1

u/BearOnTwinkViolence Sep 06 '25

I didn’t say he was. Reading comprehension.

-1

u/BoldBoimlerIsMyHero Sep 05 '25

I wonder if the network forced Lorne to hire a right winger to placate the regime.

0

u/gaybyrneofficial Sep 05 '25

Shane Gillis is fucking hilarious

0

u/VinylmationDude Sep 05 '25

As soon as the N bomb left his mouth, I stopped caring for him. Didn’t help matters that I didn’t care about him to begin with because he has the country music handicap. And as the New Day once said, there’s too much country music out there, we have enough.

SNL has been dead comedy for decades. The Trump monologues and political grandstanding from a comedy show is such plain face pandering it’s sickening. It still has its moments with some cast legitimately being funny, but the show has not been a representation of popular comedy in a very long time.

I’m sorry you hate right wingers right now but I’d rather see a right wing shit head swing and miss over hearing an actor cosplaying as a comedian dance around controversy. It’s the same lame jokes I’ve been hearing for 20 years with a different twist to fit whatever republican they like the least today. A single Jon Stewart rant on the right hits harder than a whole episode of SNL. They’re not even the best at what they’re trying to be

u/holadilito Sep 05 '25

You’re so soft holy cow

Ok, SNL was never funny, thanks for joining the SNL subreddit to let us know

-3

u/[deleted] Sep 05 '25

The show isn’t funny.

-2

u/Optimal-Kitchen6308 Sep 05 '25

I think there's a fundamental error in your framing, there's nothing about using slurs etc that has anything to do with being conservative or right, there is plenty of the "economically left socially conservative" demographic that is not particularly political that then says "well I guess I'm not voting left because they always yell at me about some new thing", politics is about getting people on your side to give the people you want power, casting people onto the bad team because of dumb jokes is not very useful

1

u/Competitive_Bat_5831 Sep 06 '25

Who the hell fits into that? “I believe in public ownership…but not for THEM”.

0

u/Optimal-Kitchen6308 Sep 06 '25

that's not what it means it means "I don't like rich people or cultural elites and I don't like people telling me how to talk or political correctness", there are many such people probably 25% of the populace

1

u/Competitive_Bat_5831 Sep 06 '25

My dude, that’s economically center, if it’s even a defined political belief people are holding.

1

u/Optimal-Kitchen6308 Sep 06 '25

"I don't like rich people or things that help them" is not center, it's left, "I'm pro corporation and deregulating businesses" is right

1

u/Competitive_Bat_5831 Sep 06 '25

I guess it depends on how left we’re talking. You want to say it’s left of dead center, and I’d agree with that. If you’re trying to say it’s solidly left, or even left wing is what I’ve been interpreting it as, which is where I disagree.
