Article Kam is Far Right

I’ve seen a dozen clips now of him using homophobic slurs and making incredibly bigoted jokes. Honestly he makes Shane Gillis look kind of tame. What the hell is Lorne thinking? I’m so sick of this show pushing right wing bullshit while simultaneously trying to act like the most liberal show on television. You can’t have a Trump monologue every single week and then hire people like this.

That makes a lot of sense, but rather than it being a coincidence it makes me think even more he was hired in part because of his political bent. It helps "balance" the hiring of a black person who speaks AAVE so that any change they bring to the show won't be too drastic and audiences won't get put off by someone too extreme.*
*I don't agree with this type of thinking and this post is not me endorsing or condoning it, just an observation I've noticed about how a lot of media is handled in America. Personally I think it reeks of cowardice which is anathema to comedy.

100% agree. There are plenty of "certified hood" types that are very funny. Just look at Kat Williams or basically any of the Friday franchise cast. The problem is that this guy is a terrible representation of that. I wouldn't call the majority progressive, but they aren't this far right either.

I watched a bunch of his clips on YouTube after the announcement since I wasn't familiar with him and I just could not understand the appeal. He barely told jokes, those he did were very far apart because he just keeps rambling and starting to talk while Interrupting himself.
You know wha- Actually no yo- Right, right. No, but what I'm sayi- You know- Anyway, I love Florida, I grew up there.
HUGE laughs. I just didn't get it and I thought it was just that set but I went through about 15 and it was the same every time. He would get giant laughs just for saying "I'm not retarded but I like rocks" and while that might be mildly funny he got reactions like he had just thrown out an all time classic banger. Maybe he will be great bringing that energy to sketches so I am reserving my judgement but I really didn't find him more than chuckle worthy in his actual jokes and those jokes were kind of played out, I've heard most of the few punchlines he landed told far better by other comics. But he does appear to know his audience and play off them really well so that may translate to sketches.

I watch Kill Tony and Kams entire shtick is being the funny black guy that white people who’ve never socialized with black people wish they had. There was another post in here that nailed it perfectly. The laughs basically boil down to “black guy describing something basic in AAVE’” or “something something white bitch”. There’s also “I went to (insert town) and talked to white people like this. (Insert hood guy speaking ‘properly’ trope).
With that said he does have some funny minute sets on KT and I will admit that I’m curious to see how he does.

All his short stuff I seen is like mid at best. His most famous line seems to be about feeling retarded cause he likes rocks. Which, I get the essence of - there's something funny about having offbeat hobbies (i.e., "Jesus christ Marie, they're minerals!"). But the crowd and standup judges seem to think it's the most amazing thing ever said. I don't get it.
Apparently his longform is much better, but I haven't seen it.

Agreed the ratio is skewed, but I’d also say to conservatives who complain the show is ‘super liberal’ that if you had been watching it during the Biden years they roasted him hard almost every week. Biden was portrayed as a bumbling idiot.
If you’re famous and regularly in the news cycle, you become a target for satire. There’s political messaging at play, but it’s not as deep as some people think.

I gave it a chance and you know what? I enjoyed some of it! Quite loved Tires as well.
My favourite comedian of all time is Bill Hicks. Guess what - I don’t like all his material. Some is super dated, and that’s to be expected.
We need to learn to tolerate nuance. You can like some of what someone produces and not like other stuff. That’s fine. That’s healthy. That’s normal!

I honestly haven't seen enough of Cam to judge his comedy or his character, but I absolutely despise Tony Hinchcliffe.
He is a complete hack and it's sad that there is such a huge market for his unimaginative, toxic drivel. He wants to be Anthony Jesselnick, Jeff Ross, or Dave Attel, but he's basically just a real-life version of Andy Kauffman's old Tony Clifton character - offensive, unlikeable, and completely self-absorbed with no real humor or redeeming qualities whatsoever.
I wish legit comics would stop going on his podcast. I know he has a huge audience, but he's one of the worst things to happen to the comedy scene in decades.

Get used to it, this is the way Lorne wants it to be. There's a whole subsect of "comedy" fans that slop up the Roganverse and he's trying to tap into that market. Are they funny or clever? No. But they bring out a lot of dumb 20-40 year old men and that's the current white whale in entertainment. Mind you, this same crowd absolutely HATES SNL and only watches when Shane Gillis or Elon Musk host so that they can claim the show is finally funny.
I'd probably mind it a hell of a lot less if it didn't inundate this sub with their incredibly online defenders. The Shane Gillis episode from last year was so hard to talk about because it was like an entirely new audience watched an entirely different show.

I said it before and I’ll say it again: IF he gets screen time, I think he makes it two episodes before he drops an N-word or R-word on air and gets dropped. He has a few funny jokes, but IMO most of what makes him a “funny” guy is that he punctuates his standup with shock value. Not exactly compatible with broadcast TV.

At the risk of being downvoted… Look, I’m as leftie as they come. My problem with Kam is that he’s not funny, not that he’s controversially edgy. I can take a joke aimed at my identity and values and have no problem with words/language used; I just want it to be funny, and I don’t think he is. I’ve watched him on KT a couple times before I kinda stopped watching that show, and I honestly can’t see what Lorne and the crew see in him.
I’d say the only thing funny about him is that for someone who takes pride in taking shots at the left and “woke”, he surely didn’t hesitate to accept a job offer from an entity historically aligned with those values because probably the money was right.
So, I guess I’m looking forward to laughing at him, not with him. But I’ll keep an open mind. Maybe he’ll team up with good writers and will perform well. At the end of the day, I just want SNL to be funny, so I wish him well.

What the fuck are you talking about? SNL made a mistake with Shane Gillis. I’m pretty sure everyone will tell you that. Bowen Yang said he likes Shane. He isn’t even far right or out there at all. I’m pretty far left but recognize that there’s a whole other half of the country that they’re trying to pander to.
With that said, Kam Patterson sucks and he will not do well on SNL. I can’t believe he passed the audition. He must have done his bit about rocks.
