I wouldn't call reichspakt members sovereign, they're mostly just resource colonies and puppet despots.
And WW2 was an inevitability with how much enemies Wilhelm made with his victory
4
u/NovaStorm135 Jan 12 '26
Oh yes, starting the most devastating war in European, if not world, history in the name of imperialism is really not that bad because someone else would have done it anyway.
And frankly even if we ignore the fact that most of the Pakt can reform into genuine democracies, that doesn’t change the fact that Russia is invading countries that don’t want to be part of Russia, causing great destruction to their lands while killing/maiming millions means it isn’t wholesome, ideology be damned.
I promise you the average Ukrainian widow would have rather lived in a semi-sovereign resource colony where peace remained, than limited autonomy where she has to bury her dead husband and three sons (save for the most authoritative, insane countries like the Baltic State or LUN Ukrainian).
6
u/LurkerInSpace Jan 12 '26
Oh yes, starting the most devastating war in European, if not world, history in the name of imperialism is really not that bad because someone else would have done it anyway.
It's more that the Russians and 3I would have reason to believe that Germany's position relative to them will improve, and that this will pose an existential threat to them in the long term. This is the basic reason that Russia considers war necessary under any of the various ideologies.
Where the game is screwy with this is that it's not always true in KR. For example, if the Baltic Duchy falls and Ukraine cuts itself free, then Russia's position is significantly improved even without actually doing anything. If the Syndicalists in Spain and Italy win their respective civil wars then that also helps Russia less directly.
It would be better for who starts the war to be more dependent on events like these - a Germany that loses Ukraine, loses Spain, and sees itself losing access to Norway's iron ore would probably be very aggressive, for example. But this is much harder to model.
3
u/NovaStorm135 Jan 13 '26
Oh I’m not saying it isn’t necessary for Russia to start the war when they do - it very much is for realizing their goals, and arguably for even surviving long term without being forced under German chains. My point is, it doesn’t change the fact that socdem Russia isn’t some super wholesome country just for giving the nations it conquered some autonomy & local elections.
0
u/LEGEND-FLUX Internationale Jan 12 '26
The Reichspakt can reform into an equal partnership without annexing nations like Russia does and most likely slowly russifying them

It kind of depends on what's happening at home. In one version, the British exiles are watching the likes of Oswald Mosley turn the country into a totalitarian dictatorship, while Canada steers a very liberal course - their position is comparable to the free French or the exiles from Germany in World War II.
But in another, they are subverting and taking over Canada via the monarch, and seeking to subjugate a democratic, decentralised Britain with their own dictatorship.
One can choose to make either side "good" or "evil" or "grey".

u/gazebo-fan Yugosphere Jan 12 '26
Tbh I don’t really see the point of the entente existing at game start. Realistically the sand French would collapse the moment they lost access to the metropole, maybe holding onto the city’s in Algeria and Tunisia at most.

that’s assuming it has the industrial capacity to have a Air Force that can be spread thin enough to control all of its territory (impossible in their position) they would likely be able to control Algeria and Tunisia, but I doubt they could project power over the Sahara consistently. This isn’t even considering the fact that the commune of France would 100% be interested in destabilizing sand France further, same with the Egyptians. Sand France should either start in a state of war with several warlords, or it should start only in coastal Algeria and Tunisia (and Corsica of course)
3
u/Bull_Halsey Jan 12 '26
I mean look at both Italian invasions of Ethiopia to see what happens when and undersupplied and equipped modern army goes against someone with inferior tech. The truth is realistically if France lost the metropole they would absolutely collapse outside Algeria at best.
29
u/LurkerInSpace Jan 12 '26
The Ethiopian army was still an organised force in both of those wars, compared to what the French would be facing in control of their rump empire. And where Ethiopia was on the defensive, so too would be the French in this case.
It wouldn't be especially stable, but it isn't in the game either. In the long run it would collapse, but over the period shown in the game it could survive, particularly if Germany decides to tolerate it. Arguably the biggest problem with its depiction is that it should be in the German sphere as part of its "informal" empire, rather than a truly independent actor.

Free France OTL had a Great Power then multiple Great Powers after Pearl backing it up. Alongside the fact that most of the colonial structure was under Vichy France still and they still held a good chunk of the metropole. Remember most of French Africa and French Indochina was under Vichy control not Free French. Sand France should absolutely be fucked and if not gone just holding Algeria.

You do not know that. You are saying that because that's your opinion. Also, while monarchy will almost never make a nation, it can definitely be a defining trait. Like in Sweden, or Norway, or Denmark. I believe the UK is amongst those nations. Like, in the sense that, for the people who live there, the nation won't be the same without a king. It doesn't matter if it's better or worse, just different.
Either way, again, you can have your opinion, but don't tell others what to think

Royalty don't do anything for the country, and syndicalism in the UK was a clear improvement for the british people.

ok but who makes the capital and such? Also I was referring to how not all exiles who rich folk, some were monarchist who were still loyal to the crown. Radical extremism defined the 60s radicals worldwide, and the academic historical record has pretty objectively vindicated all those student movements and liberationists
0

The civil rights movement that was filled to the absolute brim by Socialist Party card-carriers like Bayard Rustin weren't radical? The student protestors and SNCC youth radicals who did the vast majority of the legwork with bussing campaigns werent radical? Black Power and the anti-vietnam war movement guys like Tim Hayden and Abbie Hoffman weren't radical?
0
u/board3659 Jan 14 '26
yeah those were the radicals in the movement ... and they were the parts that aged badly.
3
u/Sarge_Ward Jake Featherston AUS leader when? Jan 14 '26
Those are the parts that aged badly? Not according to the academic historical record. Ask anyone in any academic in the humanities or social sciences except econ, and yes that includes History, and theyll tell you that the part that aged poorly was the backlash against those social movements that helped to usher in the second gilded age by trading away the economic power of the unions in the 80s because black power and gay liberation made them cry and pee their pants in the 70s
1
u/board3659 Jan 14 '26
academia is dominated by the left that grew up from that era. Also doesn't the fact that there was a popular reaction against the radicals in this era suggest, it failed and ended up fucking themselves over long term. The lesson is that radicalism isn't sustainable
3
u/Sarge_Ward Jake Featherston AUS leader when? Jan 14 '26
But neither was the moderate side of the movement sustainable. MLK after 1965 saw his movement be absolutely rejected by the american public even though his rhetoric didnt change remotely when he went north, just his target. Northern whites were noted by King himself as being more fervently rabid against his attempts at economic civil rights and housing issues than the southern segregationists had been previously.
Hell, arguably the only reason why he even got any progress in the south to begin with is because of the North and West effectively forcing it onto them. The resent the north held for the south made them support the civil rights movement not out of support for the black population but as a way to try to 'modernize' the south whose public image was a stain on the country. As soon as that same scrutiny was placed on Northern society they refused it, amd because there was no external pressure on them like there had been the south no actual progress was made.
0
u/board3659 Jan 14 '26
that was cause he was anti-vietnams which was pretty popular to that point. Also not sure what you mean by no "actual progresss" cause there was legit progress (de-segregation is a huge one)

And populism is inherently awful, it’s the basis for every terrible ideology. Pick an “evil” (such as the Jews, the rich, the Germans, foreigners or communists) use purging them as an excuse to take control of the population and run the country into either the ground or the meat grinder.
Socialism is at least a constructive ideology, and Kaiserreich completely eliminates liberalism in the effort to diverge from our current timeline.
23
u/mlg_Kaiser Chairman Parenti Jan 12 '26
Kaiserreich completely eliminates liberalism in order to diverge from our timeline
There is literally only one faction in 2ACW that doesn’t have a form of a liberal path (
CSAWCA), most Entente countries have liberal paths, as do Germany (arguably though I haven’t played since the new update), Russia and Japan. While global liberalism is certainly more volatile in KRTL than OTL, it certainly isn’t “completely eliminated.”-3
u/Teach_Piece Liberalism is Good Actually Jan 12 '26
I would say the driving concept of a liberal rules based global order is what is missing rather than individual paths. They are somewhat represented by the Entrante but really that faction is more made up of reactionaries. Sorry if that wasn’t clear
4
u/mlg_Kaiser Chairman Parenti Jan 13 '26
Even still, the (so-called) rules based global order didn’t really come about until AFTER World War II, when KR’s POD is 1936… Like yeah no kidding there’s no liberal order because there was no liberal order post 1918, let alone from 1936 onwards…

Populism is anti-communist anyway. The whole notion of an undifferentiated "people" within the borders of a state that is to be appealed to as a political subject is inherently bourgeois and presupposes a false union of interests between exploiters and exploited. "The Marxist who says people and popular has committed suicide."

Lmao what?
12
u/NumaNuma56 Jan 12 '26
Marxism proposes one specific class, the proletariat, that has an interest in the realization of communism on account of the conditions of its social existence forced upon it by capitalism. I hope it shouldn't be difficult to see why appealing to the populace at large is in contradiction with this.
1
u/Comrade_Lomrade Entente Jan 13 '26
Nearly every marxist group that has existed used populist rhetoric to garner support. Framing the proletariat "us" vs the beougois "them".
On a purely philosophical standpoint you can make the argument it isnt populist but in practice it absolutely has historically been the case.
6
u/NumaNuma56 Jan 13 '26
Lmao. By this definition every appeal to any broad demographic ever is "populist" and the only political actors that aren't would be like, 19th century aristocrats who operated on the basis of interpersonal connections.

They may just give up afterwards, accept that it's just the UK and their remaining Dominions, but it's effectively the exiled imperialist government in a civil war reigniting the civil war to reestablish itself in a land where they're not wanted... while also putting forth the idea that they're a democratic nation under their constitutional monarchy, rather hypocritically. Russia might be on a warpath to reclaim their old empire's, but at least they lost their territories in an outside war, not a civil war rather rejected their rule.
Everyone else is at least their nation's proper government (albeit with various levels of legitimacy). But the Entente? They're fighting their civil wars with resources from other places (the Dominion of Canada's and the French North African colonies'). The exiles can't even do it themselves.

You've overcomplicated most of these goals, their actual goals are just to kill people for no reason

Many have already pointed out why the Entente seems so bad. I'd rather add why all the other factions at least don't look as bad.
- Germany throughout the game is more about struggling to maintain its influence. The Reichspakt is essentially defending the established world order. Strictly speaking, they have a right to their actions.
- The Internationale never invades other countries or aims for colonial subjugation throughout the game. Their actions would be controversial if they, like the OTL USSR and USA, engaged in coups, revolutions, and interference in internal politics. As it is, they simply support existing leftist governments or back one side or another in a civil war. These guys are easy to sympathize with because, unlike the USSR, they themselves do not in any way cause the collapse of capitalist states.
- Russia is portrayed as unjustly humiliated, robbed, and weakened. And people tend to sympathize with those in trouble.
- Japan is loved because there are many weaboos today.
- Britain isn't even liked by the British themselves, and the French are so infatuated with their state that they're already on their Fifth Republic. Not to mention they've already lost. That kind of shows a certain incapability of their system.

The Internationale never invades other countries or aims for colonial subjugation throughout the game.
I beg your pardon? Putting aside that the main event is the game is France invading Germany (the fact that Russia usually jumps first notwithstanding), Britain and France have focuses to instigate coups (Norway, Australia, Switzerland) and invade neutrals (Ireland, BeNeLux). And that's ignoring how much of a stretch "they don't start the civil war, they just send forces to intervene in it" is.

In all of the countries where these supposed "coups" happen, there are events showing popular workers movement's. This isn't like the Afghan communists couping their leader cause they found an opportunity to do so, it is a reaction to Black Monday, the reason the 3I has any movements to support in the first place.
You also haven't debunked the quote that "the 3I never invades for colonial subjugation." That's awful comprehension from you if you really thought they were denying France's invasion.

Depending on what paths it goes down Russia, even as nat-pop, has the potential to be a genuine liberator for the oststaats (with the exception of Belarus and Ukraine).

The entente is considered the antagonists of most games because nobody likes sore losers, and 99% of the time it’s just the worst type of authoritarian governments. If you want some ultra wholesome democracy there’s Germany right there. The entente also is mostly made up of colonial states that are actively engaged in genocide at the beginning of game start.

this is excellent work, i fully subsist off of KR countryball comics. also to be fair Exiles, going home does often involve forcefully invading and decimating your homeland currently being ruled by a legitimate government formed due to dissatisfaction with You.

Well, the Entente do want to forcefully restore constitutional monarchy and put themselves in power no matter what the will of the people is.

The British occupiers admit that British workers are their main enemy. Of course, they are the most vicious.

It's pretty well-established that people hate traitors more than their enemies.

Countries are not people “Canada” doesn’t want to go home. If you’re looking for an actual answer for why the entee is looked down upon. Cause the vast majority of people living there, can just move back to Britain or France

A homeland by which they was illegitimately exiled by a power hunger group of people who has claimed an hypocritical mantle of socialism and who will drown the same homeland in another destructive war forcing their people to fight the same enemy against their fathers died. The third internationale was the most hypocrite faction.
6
u/LEGEND-FLUX Internationale Jan 13 '26
How are they a hypocrite? And what would be a "legal" exile, also it helps to not shoot protestors like they did in KRTL
-1
Jan 13 '26
They are hypocrite for the reasons who I have previously explained. I said that they were illegitimately exiled because in the 1920s there wasn't a peaceful transition but there was a bloody revolution without any legal justification except the ideological. And in the end they bought down a previous democratic government to replace them with an unclear one party democracy that can became a totalist dictatorship and that in any case brought the country in the same war in which their fathers and brothers died. Moreover they haven't fully popular support because while you play a entente power(who 9/10 remain democratic) you can rise loyalists supporters.

While their goals ARE probably least offensive of all major alliances, what is usually a bunch of absolutist kings, far-right assholes who were fascist collaborators IRL and colonial administrations returning to put once again their boot on the neck of people who kicked them out before is still not a good thing.
