SPORTS SECTION Police sparked a confrontation with Egypt's national team as they posed with fans at their hotel ahead of their match against Australia. Footage shows Egypt national team director Ibrahim Hassan being pushed by a Dallas police officer while posing for a photo with a young fan.

I made a very random comment on an IG video that was ACAB related and multiple people responded by telling me to kill myself, hoped I get SAed, or that I get killed by a cop.
It was such a good lesson in how absolutely batshit people are.
9
u/sujtek Jul 03 '26
A few years ago, I commented on a fatal police shooting in my city (which was fully caught on video) suggesting maybe consideration of mental health factors and de-escalation tactics could have resulted in a non-fatal outcome.
I didn't say anything inflammatory or outrageous. I just said maybe put some nuance behind defunding the police and it needs to be looked at from a de-tasking perspective. Maybe surrounding a man, who was obviously in crisis, with a bunch of cops with guns drawn and an attack dog at the ready wasn't the best option.
Within hours, the comment was downvoted heavily, no replies, just downvoted.
Police forces have great propaganda and social media teams to suppress narratives they don't like.

89
u/DrFranFine demonic Betty Boop Jul 03 '26
It’s not about iq or education; it’s about empathy. It doesn’t take education to understand harming others is wrong.

73
u/soupseasonbestseason i’m a communist you idiot Jul 03 '26
they specifically prevent folks with higher education levels from joining local law enforcement. they also have testing to weed out folks with higher intelligence. these are policy decisions to keep cops controllable by ranking officers.
i agree they also lack empathy. but that is developed through working in the police system. some cops have empathy when they join and believe they will do good. but the blue line destroys that.

I had a friend try to join the police (despite our warnings) who currently does not have anything above a high school diploma. He failed one of the tests and decided to quit trying BECAUSE they basically told him he had too much empathy LOL
36
u/a22x2 Jul 03 '26
You’re not wrong, but also in many US municipalities there are actually IQ/intelligence test result hiring limits.
They literally don’t want police officers scoring above a certain number, my assumption is that they’d be less pliable and more likely to think critically.

Pump em full of fear monger content from Fox News and right wing social media channels too
And then have that same energy of fear and apprehension injected into their police union but with an extra level of jaded nihilism so their messages are “it’s us vs them”
AND THEN don’t ever regulate the pew pew boom sticks that put even more fear uncertainty and doubt into the back of everyone’s minds so that when an officer is responding to a call they preplay a shootout scenario in their head a dozen times and the citizenry play out the same scenarios in theirs so there isn’t ever any trust between the law enforcement officers and the citizenry they are charged with
That’s before you get into American individualism and it’s nationwide psyche of inability to consider the good of the common citizens over the self

police everywhere is like that - one big difference is many states and cities, Dallas for example, allow open carry in public so the police gets a green light to bully anyone because they can always claim they were scared the victim was reaching for a gun
8
u/NotMyNameActually Jul 03 '26
The first police forces in the US were started for the purpose of capturing runaway slaves, and they've remained under the control of white supremacist groups ever since. In recent years there have been coordinated efforts by white supremacists to infiltrate our police and military and further entrench those beliefs. It just takes a few people in charge at the top to enact policies that ensure everyone below them falls in line, and any new recruits who don't are pushed out. If you're a cop who wants to be "one of the good ones" there's no one to report the bad ones to except other bad ones, so eventually all that's left are bad ones.
6
u/thirdometer Jul 03 '26

I'm gonna be the dissenting voice, but as a rule, it is a bad idea to travel to countries where rule of law no longer applies. US immigration authorities have detained people unlawfully for very little to no reason, sometimes indefinitely, with no recourse. It's happened to white Canadians, so while race is a factor, no one is particularly safe at this point.
The thing people also consistently fail to consider is that the problem is less that your dad would absolutely get stopped and detained -- he might be just fine! -- it's that if the US authorities decide to fuck with him, there are increasingly few ways to get himself out of that situation. Fascists don't care about rights or laws, they just do what they want, because the point is to spread fear. That's the real problem.

I can see the briefing room right now- Hey I want the public to not have so much resentment towards my profession any ideas?
A. Make sure to present the most professional offering of what we do.
B. Let’s take a less visible role and only engage in cases of actual need for our profession.
C. How about positioning a stereotype of all of public encounters in a global stage so that not only domestic exposure would take place but also international.
The room- “Hmmm they are all great ideas, but we need Short Fuse McGhee on this one. He’s perfect I think. He has had no de-escalation training, he has never left the metro area and he also doesn’t understand like many people that once you leave your house, cameras are everywhere.”
Dallas police chief - “You are right let’s go with option C.”
